Lou, I appreciate the suggestion, but it is with a K4D, properly cabled, used to work fine, and does it on some bands but not others... changed the delay to 15ms and still does it... Also seems to depend on band; for example, does it on 10m, not on 12m... [Elecraft] KPA1500 - loose hardware on return from repair
When I received my KPA-1500 back from repair, the repair was done very well but disappointingly, the reassembly had 2 loose screws; fortunately the were only on the cover and still in but needed tightening - they were barely started in the holes... Another disappointment in the process was they seemed to have forgotten to ship the amplifier when it was repaired (there was an understandable delay due to no boxes thanks to the paper shortage, but they received the boxes, and forgot to ship my amplifier until I called again and asked what happened... I suspect these incidents all to be excess rush causing careless errors, as before this COVID messed everything up, I never had any unhappy experience with them, and there was probably less rush. In any case, I am very happy with my K4D and KPA1500, and would be reluctant to part with them even at twice what I paid for them... -- 73 de Dave, W5SV __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Re: [Elecraft] K4 beta software release 29 is now available
Unfortunately, when I "Check for Updates" I only see the Beta release of R29; am I missing something, or was the email missing "Beta" Thanks & 73 de Dave, W5SV On 03/24/2022 02:52 AM, Wayne Burdick wrote: Release 29 of K4 software is now available for download. You can read the release notes below, or from within the UPDATE function at the radio itself. NOTE: If the UPDATE function doesn't succeed at downloading the new software on the first try, please try a second time. We're working to improve this situation. This release will be of particular interest to SSB operators, since it adds a new, highly effective speech compression algorithm and CESSB (control-envelope SSB). The combination of the two provides as much as 8 dB of increase in average talk power. This should be very useful for those participating in the CQ WPX SSB contest this weekend. CW operators will want to try out the new, much tighter filters for bandwidths of 50/100/150/200 Hz. In field testing, these have proven to provide a huge advantage in heavy QRM. 73, Wayne N6KR RELEASE 29 March 22, 2022 NOTE: The RX DVR feature (AF REC/AF PLAY) has been deferred until the next software release in order to complete more extensive testing. = FUNCTIONAL CHANGES = ENHANCED SPEECH COMPRESSION & CESSB: Speech compression has been dramatically improved. Controlled Envelope Single Sideband (CESSB) has also been implemented. Together, these boost average talk power by up to 8 dB, with virtually no RF overshoot or in-band distortion. Any nonzero setting of CMP also engages CESSB. Compression also now applies to Extended Single Sideband (wide transmit bandwidths). TX NOISE GATE: This feature is available in all voice modes. Set up using MENU:TX Noise Gate Threshold. Default is OFF. If a non-zero value is selected, mic audio will be suppressed during transmit when it is below the given threshold. NEW NARROW CW FILTERS: We've added new CW filtering for the 50/100/150/200 Hz settings -- the highest-performance narrow filters we've ever offered. These filters have much steeper skirts, yet exhibit minimal ringing. They're enabled by default, but can be turned off using the RX CW IIR Filters menu entry. When they're off, the filters will be the same as they are now (FIR). These filters are centered on 50 Hz pitch increments, which means that the narrowest filter width (50 Hz) slightly favors 50 Hz increments of the sidetone PITCH setting. For example, if you were using a 530 Hz sidetone, consider using 500 or 550 Hz instead. ALL-MODE SQUELCH: Main and sub receiver squelch can now be used in all modes. The settings are independent. NOISE BLANKER QRM FILTERING: All noise blankers can be compromised by strong nearby signals. If you hear artifacts, use the NB LEVEL control to turn NB QRM filtering on, then retry different NB levels. There are 3 NB filter settings: NARROW: K4 bases NB filter on regular RX bandwidth (as low as 1 kHz) WIDE: K4 applies a 5 kHz NB filter NONE: pre-NB filtering off (BW ahead of NB ~24 kHz) NOTE: The NARROW and WIDE settings may reduce effectiveness on some noise types, so use NONE when there's no QRM. NEW AM DEMODULATOR: Our new AM demodulator provides excellent audio fidelity, with up to 5 kHz audio bandwidth and enhanced pre-demodulator filtering. IMPROVED FM DEMODULATOR. VFO CURSOR OFF-SCREEN ICONS: The panadapter now provides color-coded arrows (A=blue, B=green) that appear if the associated VFO frequency is off-screen. The arrow shows the off-screen direction. VFO COARSE TUNING RATES (PER-MODE): Added a new menu entry, VFO Coarse Tuning, that specifies which of four per-mode tuning rates is to be used when the KHZ switch function is selected. (This is equivalent to the K3's COARSE switch function.) For example, in SSB mode, the "KHZ" tuning rate options are 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.5 kHz. When the user-specified KHZ rate is selected, the VFO digit underline changes from white to gold. These selections also apply to the RIT control whenever RIT is *OFF* and MENU:RIT Knob Alt Function is set to VFO CRS. Tapping VFO digits to select a tuning rate overrides the KHZ tuning rate. NEW TRANSMIT MONITOR LINE-OUT MODES: Menu entry "TX Monitor Level, Line Out" sets the level of the transmit monitor signal (sidetone or voice) at the LINE OUT analog jack as well as digital line out (USB-B jack). At the default setting ("=MON"), the LINE OUT TX monitor level reflects the setting of the regular XMTR-MON knob function. Rotating VFO A counter-clockwise from here will select "OFF" mode (no TX monitor line out signal). The other available settings (numeric) will scale the LINE OUT transmit monitor function upward, which is useful for some external devices such as audio recorders. (These values will also prevent K4 switch tones from being heard at LINE OUT.) Max TX monitor LINE OUT level is

I am in a bit of a situation here… in trying to get a 240 V circuit wired for the shack to fit the plug coming from my KPA1500, the electrician tells me that it is a 120 V plug, and that is it against the law for him to wire a socket for that to 240 V. [Elecraft] Mode not Switching with band change?
I am running an Elecraft K3 and a KPA1500 amplifier. I use the DXLab Suite of programs for logging, rig control and so on. If I do a manual band change on either the K3 or using the KPA1500 and change back and forth between 15m and 40m, the side band changes appropriately. If I do it using the Commander Bandspread window buttons and go from 15 to 40, it stays in USB. I can then do a MODE ALT to get the correct mode, but it doesn't stick if I go back and forth. FWIW, going to 80 has the same issue... I suspect the K3/KPA1500 set are working correctly since the only misbehavior is when I do it with Commander. Has anyone else seen this, fixed it, or have any hints? __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] Station for sale
Due to an upcoming move, I am putting my complete ham station for sale (will reconstruct another one when I am settled into the new QTH, wherever and whenever that ends up being). Antenna system: 70 ft. Self supporting aluminum tower, 3 element quad covering 20, 17, 15, 12, 10 and 6m (4 elements on 6), dipoles (bazooka type) for 75/80 and 160M, and a 160’ folded dipole (for covering 60, 40, and 30 m) and about 400’ hardline. Tower and antennas will require takedown and disassembly. Station: Elecraft K-line consisting of loaded K3 (upgraded to near K3S, with dual receivers, 2.8, 2.1 and 400 Hz filters, DVR, 2M transverter built in, P3 (has VGA output and power meter accessories), KPA-500, KAT-500, Station Master, remote coax switch… All is operational and available for evaluation. I am hoping to net about $6,000 for it all; $5000 for the station. While I am open to splitting it up, I would prefer a package deal, especially for the Elecraft stuff (yes, I have a K4 ordered)… 73 de W5SV - Dave __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

In planning my next station, I have not found one item I would like to add... I wish to automatically select the correct antenna per band when using a K3 or K4 with associated amplifier. The objective is to select the appropriate 1 of 8 possibilities remotely, I am currently doing this satisfactorily with a microHam StationMaster, but it has a lot more capabilities that I am not using, and for my next station, a simpler band decode, select remote antenna capability would be what I am looking for. I upgraded by K3 to as close to a K3S as I could; I am very happy with it. Is it a K3S? No, but in the ways that matter to me, it is... I feel like it cost me less than selling it and buying a K3S would have, and will be worth a bit more when I finally sell it. As for not exchanging yours after a month, it is not COSTCO... How far in advance should they stop selling one product before its replacement comes out? How far back should they be willing to do an exchange? I fear there are no good answers for a small company that needs some cash flow to keep progressing during development; nailing down exact dates for FCC acceptance and supplier readiness and so on can be difficult, and besides, I have learned to measure the goodness of my purchase decisions based on "was it a good decision based on all information available to me at the time?". I agree; the FT-8 thing has had a lot of negative impact; some of the other modes that take longer, but are weak signal modes were far less devastating; people used lower power and got along more or less without interfering too much except with other JT modes... [Elecraft] Many thanks
Dear folks at Elecraft and on the list; I have been enjoying Elecraft products for many years, starting with a K1, then a K2, then a KX2... followed by my current K3, KX3, and KX2. I use the K3 as my mainradio in the shack. It is fairly loaded with the second receiver and nice filters and supplemented by a P3 and a KPA500 and KAT500. They feed a 3 element Quad up 75 feet on 20 - 6 meter, and dipoles for 160 - 30 meters. I use the KX3 as a secondary station in my library with different antennas and a KXP3 and KXPA100. I use the KX2 as my portable station when I am out camping or on a picnic. Over the years, I have come to anticipate the new releases from Elecraft eagerly. I just wanted to thank Elecraft for their top notch designs and customer support which I have benefited from more than once, and to thank the list for their support as well; they have contributed significantly to a hobby I have enjoyed now for some 59 years and hope to for a few more years. best 72 for the QRPers, & 73 for the QROers out there. --W5SV, Dave __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

I am wondering (but cannot figure out from the manual) how to achieve this using either Line In or the rear mic jack when in Data A, and get more gain, but not use the front mic (leave it connected but not get audio from it). At the same time, the front mic is working fine (correct bias etc.) and I don't want to loose this. Surely someone must have solved this before me, and could help me figure it out. When this happens, let's say I have power set to 30 watts; the KXPA100 shuts down and to get it back up, I have to go to the KX3, re-enable PA MODE from Off to On, and and reset the PWR level from 5.0 watts to 30 watts. My questions are: 1. Is anyone else experiencing this? 2. What is going on? 3. How do I fix it Any help appreciated. Re: [Elecraft] KX2 QUESTION
It does work great for me; probably depends on the rig control software you are using; I use DXLabs Commander (and the rest of the suite). 73 de Dave, W5SV On Fri, Aug 26, 2016 at 8:57 AM, Robert 'RC' Conley wrote: > will the KX2 interface with a computer as my K3 does for computer control? > > -- > Live Long and Prosper > __ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > Message delivered to w5sv.d...@gmail.com > __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
