[Elecraft] Stick PC and Elecraft Software/Netlogger

2021-03-25 Thread Joseph Shuman via Elecraft
Anyone used a Stick PC in the shack with KX2/3 or KXPA100 software? With
Netlogger? Has anyone tried to change the OS to Linux? Looking for experience
prior to purchase. Thx in advance.

[Elecraft] Software for K4-PC operation

The FAQ mentions that the K4 will be able to be controlled by a PC via an
ethernet connection. What software will be running on the PC to accomplish
this?

[Elecraft] software problem on K3S - software lose 2nd speaker!

2019-05-12 Thread Paul Kirley
SPKRS can switch to 1 automatically if you use mono speakers or there is
an accidental short between the right speaker leads. Check your speaker
plug and wiring.

From firmware release notes:
**
MCU 3.14 / DSP 2.16, 5-9-2009

* SPEAKER PROTECTION: If you’re set up for stereo speakers
(CONFIG:SPKRS = 2), but insert a mono speaker plug, the right speaker
output will be shorted to ground. This can cause excess current drain
if you turn volume up to high levels. The K3 now detects this condition,
automatically turning off the right channel (SPKRS = 1).

Re: [Elecraft] Software suggestions for KX3

2017-11-09 Thread tomb18
HiI don't think I ever got an email from you. However, in almost all cases, of
double images, it is traceable to an issue with the cable or a 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm
adapter. Use an ohm meter and then follow the connection, making sure it is
providing the stereo signal from the kx3 to your sound card. The adapters are
prone to bad connections as are 2.5mm Jack's it seems. If it is stereo then
follow the guide in the win4k3 manual to ensure that you selected 192khz, 24
bit 2 channel in the recording options for your sound device. It all comes down
to this only. 73 Tom  va2fsq.com

Could the Elecraft radio software be changed so that K3/KSs radios
(equipped with the proper AM or FM filter) have a "WDATA" mode that
allows receiving and transmitting this 5 kHz bandwidth?

The K3 has a 4.25 KHz hardware audio filter following the ADC. Using
either the AM or FM filter, bandwidth can already be set to 4 KHz
(Shift=2.10, Width=4.00).

Re: [Elecraft] Software updates

2017-02-24 Thread Wayne Burdick
The differences between K3 and K3S firmware features are very minor, all having
to do with hardware addressing. For example, the K3S has a second attenuator
section. Other than this, there is no difference in functionality.

The reason there are two different .hex files in the load package is that older
K3's had a different display controller. This affects so much of the code that
I build it two different ways. K3 Utility detects the controller type and loads
the associated image.

Re: [Elecraft] Software updates

2017-02-24 Thread Don Wilhelm

Knut,

The functions of the K3 and K3S are the same, and will likely remain the
same. The differences are in the hardware, so a 2nd MCU file has been
in place for some time to allow for a change in the microcontroller used
in later K3s and the K3S.
I can envision this being expanded, not to change the functions, but to
support minor differences in the hardware. Part of the Elecraft
"magic", such things are transparent to the user.

My point is that K3Utility sorts it all out, and does not have to be
visible to the user, because the same steps to update firmware are used.

There already is a difference. K3 Utility figures out which you have

[Elecraft] Software testing

2016-04-15 Thread Mike Reublin NF4L
I've written a settings saver for the K3. It should work on the K3S, but I
don't have one to test it on. The program reads every Menu and Config setting
that's readable, and stores it in a file. You can read a second radio and
compare the settings side-by-side. The program puts the radio into Tech Mode,
and switches between SSB and CW. The program DOES NOT load settings back into
the radio, and I have no plans to have it do so.

I'm looking for some hardy testers. If interested contact me off list, using
[K3Config] in the subject.

Please let me know your operating system(Windows XP thru Win10), your MCU
version, and whether you have the sub receiver. I need both K3 and K3S users.

Another vote for Win4K3suite plus DXlabs. Asus Xonar U7 for the sound

With the above combo, you get point and click tuning and the integration

Re: [Elecraft] Software suggestions for KX3

2015-03-09 Thread Doug Ellmore
Mark,

I have both the KX3 and K3. My current software configuration is to use
Win4K3 ( http://va2fsq.com/ ) as the main software. It provides a
panadapter scope (interfacing a Steinberg UR22 USB Soundcard to get a full
192khz spectrum) to the KX3/K3 I/Q. I then use Ham Radio Deluxe HRDLogger
and Rotor Control. Win4K3 allows me to log Qs from the Win4K3 terminal
into HRD and ADIF. Chasing DX, I can use the built in CW/PSK/RTTY features
of Win4K3 and the KX3/K3 to chase and operate.

In contesting mode, I still use Win4K3 with N1MM+. I also use cwskimmer.
Win4K launches skimmer, HRD, and other apps. It will put spots from
cwskimmer/wintelnetx into panadapter display.

Win4K3 works with ClubLog to see your worked/confirmed to help you see if a
new one in the spots is need or not.

I will email you a configuration PDF.

Win4K can be used in a small discrete way or to help you integrate all
these other apps.

I used Win4K flawlessly this weekend during the ARRL DX Phone contest to
find slots to call cq/run.

Need any other info, drop me a note.

Hello all,

I posted a question on here a few weeks ago about software for controlling
and enhancing the KX3 experience. I had previous experience with
MacLogger and because of that and a lack of clarity on my part many of the
people who responded assumed I was currently running an Apple which I am
NOT. I am not running iOS. That was my issue for not specifying which
system I was running on. I am using a Win7 dual core laptop.

I have also tried HRD and found it pretty good but now that HRD is charging
almost a $100 for their software and even ongoing support I figured there
might be better options available.

I am primarily interested in following active calling frequencies (DX
clusters) and general controls. Waterfall displays would be really nice
also.

What do other users like and recommend?

Thanks,

Re: [Elecraft] Software suggestions for KX3

2015-03-09 Thread Barry LaZar

Mark,
You can use the last free version of HRD. It does work with the
KX3. Just set it up for K3 operation. However, If you want to do it to
the max, download a copy of Win4K3, $50, and buy a USB sound card that
runs 24 bit sampling at 96KHz or better sample rate. They run anywhere
from $75 to $150. That will give you spectrum display, radio control,
CW/RTTY/PSK31 controls and macros, and an interface to HRD. The Spotting
software in HRD will connect to the DX clusters and put your radio on
frequency by just clicking. You will need to download a copy of com0com
for port replication, but that is free.

I use Fldigi for almost everything digital. It's a very versatile
program, ported to Windoze and Linux (maybe other OSs?). Fldigi and
its suite (flrig, flarq, etc.) are free, and fairly well-maintained
and -documented. Fldigi will also maintain a log for you, but I've
not used this feature personally.

>From your call, I'd guess you're Army MARS. In NMCM, most of our
socal members (SCA) use fldigi for MT63 on traffic nets and Thor/FSK
for our 24-hour TransPac net. For official stuff, we use M110A, of
course.

That looks nice..
I used the N1MM plus, but I don't remember which version it was. I can say
that I have updated before leave on 22.11.2014.
I will try that on my next portable activation.

Thanks for the good news.

Alex,

What version of N1MM Logger were you using? If you were using N1MM
Classic or an N1MM Plus version older than 1.0.4429, those versions use
/ as a separator between commands. Starting with Plus version 1.0.4429,
the command separator has been changed to \, and it is now possible to
send a / character within a KY command text string.

There is a way to do it, I don't; As I recall it was too much
trouble. I use a WinKeyer USB with N1MM when I contest. I have zero
problems this way. I know it's another piece of gear, but the ease is

For me, this was the only thing that bothered me, sometimes the KX3 keyer

What I like about the digital modes with the KX3, is all you really need

providing feedback loop isolation.

Hi Mark,

I have used MLDX with my KX3 in the past and it worked very well. I also have a
K3/P3/KAT500/KPA500 that I use MLDX with.

However, I got spoiled by that dang P3 and wanted something like it for the

a copy of NaP3 (free). It runs on my 27” iMac under Win 8.1, which runs under
VMWare Fusion - very nicely, I may add. Needed some sort of logging over on the
Windows side, so I downloaded and installed Log4OM (also free). I like having
the large Pan Display of NaP3 on the KX3; I log my KX3 QSO’s into Log4OM and
when I’m done, export them in ADIF up to Dropbox and then import them into MLDX
over on the mac side of things. A little extra work, but it does work.

[Elecraft] software

2015-01-26 Thread Mark Tellez
Hello all,

I am curious.

I am fairly new to the KX3. I have used several software packages in the
past with my base stations including MacLogger and HRD. What do people
use with the KX-3 and why?

Straight out of college I was one of 100+ design engineers on the Mode-S
FAA air traffic control system - multiprocessor, fault-tolerant system,
etc. The design docs (let alone software) filled volumes. Much as I
hope there were zero bugs in the complex system, it was after all
designed by people...

One thing I recall is that the FAA contract permitted 1 second of down
time per year. :-)

[Elecraft] Software modifications

2014-08-19 Thread Jim Lowman
I'm a big fan of open-source software but, as a software
developer/supervisor with more than 30 years experience, I think it's
worthwhile to know the big picture before messing with software that
another developer wrote.

Sometimes it's not obvious why a segment of code exists.

And yes, I've rewritten others' software before, because it was easier
to do that than to try to maintain it.

I've written a little program for the Mac (Intel based) to turn a rotator. If
anyone is using a Yaesu GS232 controller, please contact me off-list if you'd
be willing to run a test for me.

It also communicates with RUMlog via a script to get the heading. My rotor uses

If anyone has a different rotor controller, if you can give me the command set,
I can probably incorporate it.

Re: [Elecraft] Software CW in K3 and KX3 and contesting

2012-08-10 Thread W2RU - Bud Hippisley
Hi, Will --

"Q" was probably not the best choice I could have used to distinguish between
the two modes.

My biggest problem with Iambic and a dual-lever paddle is the number "2", which
I do have to send occasionally:-) It typically comes out as
dit-dit-dah-dit-dah.

For me, at least, I think the crux of the difference between the two algorithms
is that I can be "sloppier" about when I get my thumb or fingers off the first
lever squeezed on a large number of characters, such as the A, W, J, 1 and N,
D, B, 6 families. This timing becomes increasingly critical as sending speed
increases. For instance, I can send a "2" quite consistently using dual-lever
Iambic at slow speeds.

I freely admit that my difficulties with Iambic may be influenced by the
characteristics of keyers I first used, prior to introduction of the Iambic
algorithm. In other words, if your first electronic keyer was Iambic, you may
not have as much trouble as I with it. An aside: One of those early keyers I
loved, the POO-keyer from K2POO, was a (vacuum tube!) "dash priority" or "dash
override" design -- not so much by deliberate design, perhaps, as by the
reaction of the analog circuit to having dot and dash contacts simultaneously
closed.

Ultimately (get that?), I think the answer is this: If you're perfectly happy
with the Iambic algorithm in conjunction with a dual-lever paddle, and it's
making good characters for you, or if you use only a single-lever paddle, stick
with the Iambic. If it's giving you "fits", however, an Ultimatic keyer might
be just the ticket for you.

Re: [Elecraft] Software CW in K3 and KX3 and contesting

2012-08-10 Thread Joe Subich, W4TV

RUMPed/RUMLog is unique because it is written for Apple by one person
for his own use/his own equipment. It does not support the Windows
environment and multiple transceiver protocols. Tom can concentrate
on optimizing operation with the K3 (and KX3 to the extent it works
the same as the K3).

 > 2. Changes to contest packages

While I can't say for Win-Test, I have often heard developers for the
other packages say they will not support a "CW over CAT" interface
as it is simply not "cost effective" given the limited number of rigs
that it would serve and the need to do multiple versions to support
Elecraft, Kenwood, and the limited number of Icom models with similar
capability. All of the "big three" and most other contest *and* day
to day loggers support CW by DTR and WinKey.

Re: [Elecraft] Software CW in K3 and KX3 and contesting

2012-08-10 Thread Ignacy
That RUMped works well with KX3 software scheme means that it can be done.
Even if not perfect, this would stop taking other interfaces/CW keyers,
cables, etc. If KX3 is small but extra boxes take twice as much space, how
good is it?

So it seems that there are 3 approaches to contest CW with KX3:

1. Extra keyers

2. Changes to contest packages

3. Modified USB/serial cable (most likely)

For the last point, it seems that KX3 control port is just serial port with
RX/TX at 4800 baud, changeable to 38.4k. If one has a plain USB/serial
cable, one needs to concoct two cables: one for RX/TX and the other for CW,
possibly with a transistor buffer. I am not sure whether something like
this has been suggested in another thread.

4. Option 3 made as new cable by Elecraft.

Option 2 is best IMHO for KX3 followed by 4 if we convince Elecraft (or
third party) to do it.

I infer that contesting and contest CW aids are what you are after. I
use N1MM contest logging software to control my K1EL keyer. It works
with any radio that can be used with a key. However there are other
contest logging packages around, but most are designed to operate with
an external keyers also. Actually, this is a fairly simple approach that
allows for some flexibility.

My reply didn't get attached to this thread, so I will try again. Yes, there
is a logging program that uses the serial port of the KX3 via software CW.
I used RUMped very successfully during Field Day this year on my KX3 #151.
I connected to it via the KXUSB cable to my 2011 MacBook Air. I can
recommend RUMped as a contesting app to anyone running OSX. 73 de George,

Re: [Elecraft] Software CW in K3 and KX3 and contesting

2012-08-09 Thread Thomas Horsten
Win-Test is my choice for contesting. In the latest contest I used my KX3
(novelty value and wanted to try a conetst in QRP), and I missed the
automatic keying with DTR/CTS, but on the other hand had fun sending
everything with the paddles.

However, I think all of the programs you mention support the Win-Key keyer,
which also uses serial port commands and has a protocol where you can query
the buffer state and clear it.

I think (and this would be one for Wayne to answer) that it would be easy
enough to add a K(X)3 command in the firmware to allow you to query the
buffer state and/or stop sending the remaining buffer. If so, it would be
possible to add rig-controlled keying to these contest-loggers and/or write
a generic Win-Key emulator that would present as a virtual serial port and
handle the commands to the K(X)3. It would be great for the KX3 and even
for the K3 as the CTS/DTR keying has a severe disadvantage in that Windows
isn't a real-time operating system and sometimes the program will hang for
a few milliseconds, resulting in a dit turning into a dah (or a pause),
this could be avoided entirely by having the rig control the timing (as
with the Win-Keyer).

Wayne is probably extremely busy with KX3 stuff at the moment but an entry
on the TODO/IDEAS list would be appreciated ;)

For Windows contesting packages, they are in seniority order, Writelog,
N1MM Logger and Win-Test. There are several others that specialize in
some areas - primarily a local language or support for a limited number

Probably easier just to make a keying interface ala the old days.

No, and none of the big three are likely to do so as the "KY" command
is not uniform across all brands and lacks the ability to determine
buffer status or edit buffer contents.

[Elecraft] Software CW in K3 and KX3 and contesting

2012-08-09 Thread Ignacy
Both K3 and KX3 can send CW via a software command. Is this feature useful
for contesting? Does any contesting software support CW via command?

This feature is especially important for KX3 where there is no possibility
of keying via serial cable. Also for K3 if an interface does not allow for
CTS/RTS, e.g., if one uses Microham StationMaster.

[Elecraft] Software testers wanted

2011-03-17 Thread Mike
In response to a post here a few days ago, I'm writing a Windows program for
the K3
(and maybe the K2 - I don't have one) that reads the radio and displays on the
computer screen as text for a screen reader to say.

The program is in the very early stage of development, and there may be crashes
and
other less serious errors.

If you're visually impaired, and want to be a lab rat, drop me a note,
preferably off
list. I'd like to know what rig you have, (if it's a K3, if it has a sub
receiver),
your operating system, and what screen reader you use..

[Elecraft] Software Upgrades

2009-08-24 Thread Tom Meier
One of the problems with having a radio that is way smarter than I am is
that things take an inordinate amount of time to accomplish what should be a
simple task. I've just spent three hours downloading the latest beta
software. I freely admit that all of the mistakes were mine: from trying to
use the wrong COM port to discovering that the unzipped files had not been
saved into my "temporary" beta folder. *But* it seems that the whole thing
could have been avoided if someone had a simple bulletproof checklist that
includes things like "Turn on the K3" Does anyone have such an animal?

CW Skimmer http://www.dxatlas.com/CwSkimmer/ is the only program I know of
that will do this for Morse. It does not decode PSK31, but I think Ham Radio
Deluxe will do that for you.

Could you read morse shown by a flashing LED? There are circuits that can
lock on to a particular audio frequency and flash when audio is present.

[Elecraft] Software for PSK31/Morse

2009-05-21 Thread John Chance-Read
I am looking for software similar to DigiPan which for PSK31 provides panoramic
display of frequency spectrum and identifies each station with its callsign and
call info. I want one  FOR MORSE.  I am totally deaf and want to work in
contest and I think this is the answer for me.  I tried feeling vibration from
loudspeaker but found it too uncomfortable for more than 5 minutes.
I think it also works with PSK31 which in any case I will also try.
I believe this software for morse does exist but am trying to get a copy - I am
quite willing to pay for it. Would appreciate your help

So am I.

The K3 is the first radio I have ever bought without some
silly engineering shortfall. The only things I see people
complaining about are specialized personal use or
application issues. It's impossible without years of field
refinement to get on the very top of the curve, but they are
already close and respond fast.

I've been involved with other groups and it is often to get
them to even consider major issues. It's so frustrating I
vowed to never again work with a radio manufacturer. For
example one manufacturer had an amplifier keying issue. The
radio spit out RF before it told the amplifier to turn on. I
knew it was happening because my homebrew amp has a
"hot-switch" sensor that prevents keying (relay transfer)
while RF is present, and I looked at it on a scope and could
see the issue. It took almost a week of actual work to get
them to look at the problem. The engineer responsible kept
saying he checked it and it was fine, but it turned out he
never did check. When they finally checked they fixed it,
but historically everything they did worked that way. It
worked that way with ALC issues that caused keyclicks, and
it worked that way with a dozen other bugs some of which
never were resolved.

All three major Japanese manufacturers are out of touch the
same way. It actually takes decades to address some very
simple problems.

Thankfully Elecraft has chosen a different approach.

and as yet unimplemented features. Frequently,
operational flexibility or
designer prerogative is misconstrued as a failure or a bug
and unimplemented

features thus far have a history of being implemented.

That's the problem I see. While there are shortfalls in
specialized areas, it is always an application specific and
design critical area like a noise blanker or IF port use.
What works well in one case might hurt other uses so they
have to find a compromise, and that takes time. They have to
learn all the different field applications, it can't really
be planned because planning would take so much time the
first radio would never leave the assembly line.

Jim, I don't think you'll ever stop hams from airing their opinions,
informed or otherwise. :)

While I have sometimes thought that something like an online bug tracker, as
used by a lot of open source software projects (an example:
http://bugs.freepascal.org/) would be a nice thing to have, a way for people
to report issues they have found or make suggestions for enhancements and
then track the progress being made, I suspect that implementing this and
then maintaining it would be a lot of work for what is after all a very
small development team, time that might be better spent writing and testing
code.

We're getting there, most people are happy now, but the nature of ham radio
is that users have widely different priorities, and some will always find
something to grumble about.

[Elecraft] Software Development Goals

2008-08-26 Thread NS5U/1 Jim Benson

I am consummately pleased with my K3. I am astounded with the raw
performance and dazzled with the features. I look forward to remaining
stunned with the product as more features are implemented. Considering the
breadth of uses the K3 is applied towards by the large diversity of users
with widely varying technical expertise and focus, Elecraft succeeds
surpassing expectations masterfully. The fact they have incorporated in
their development strategy a transparent and responsive forum easily
accessible to the unqualified and very well qualified is revolutionary but
sometimes reading this reflector is a little like getting my news at the
pub.

Expectedly, just as in the pub, there is a wide diversity here of
informed, misinformed, and those wishing to be informed but there is often
too much conflicting misinformation containing personal views of second hand
"facts" obscuring the successes with unfounded doubts which raise spurious
issues. One recurring theme concerns the perception of software failures
and as yet unimplemented features. Frequently, operational flexibility or
designer prerogative is misconstrued as a failure or a bug and unimplemented
features thus far have a history of being implemented.
Earlier technology adopters have little problem sorting through these
issues. They are usually the folks in the pub smiling and enjoying a pint
before returning to the shack and playing radio. Latter technology adopters
tend to be the animated somewhat noisy nervous crew spilling their ale and
prone to moan at every retelling of the latest "disasterous" development.
When walking by the pub many folks, usually the last adopters, write
off the whole pub as too unstable to consider viable. All of us could
benefit from the simple facts from the source.

An Official List both of features to be enabled and recognized bugs
might go a long way towards reducing the spurious responses and allaying the
fear of features yet to be enabled. Such a list likely already exists among
the developers.

Or did I miss finding it? I love a good pint and a smile but sometimes
I am the last to know.

Personally, I would like to see fewer firmware releases and more time spent vetting firmware before it is released. Firmware upgrades should be two steps forward -- period!

Hello Lyle
I have to bow to your superior knowledge in these matters, but over two or
three PSK QSO's (say, 20-25 minutes) I haven't noted any increase in
transmitted power from the 35-40 watts I start with.
What sort of time scale would you expect the ALC loop to require to get
close to the level set on the PWR control?
I will look at it more closely in future.

The K3 operating tip regarding PSK setup:

really does need to be updated. It was written before the ALC system
changes that came with MCU 1.87.

output using the MIC level control on the front panel. (MIC SEL = LINE IN).
Or is that classed as cheating? :-)

Yes, I think it is :-)

The problem with this approach is that over time the slow ALC loop may
try to build the power level up to that which you've set with the PWR
control.

I hope I'm not missing something but I seem to be able to vary the power in
data modes from zero to any sensible level that doesn't run into ALC (about
70 watts max).
Set the PWR control to 100w (or 120w if you wish) and control the power
output using the MIC level control on the front panel. (MIC SEL = LINE IN).
Or is that classed as cheating? :-)

Re: [Elecraft] Software Upgrades

2008-08-17 Thread Mike Cox
Having already survived the Ten-Tec Orion I firmware and hardware
upgrade fiasco, I must admit that my experiences with the Elecraft
firmware migration has been a real pleasure. I eagerly download each new
beta version as soon as I know it's available. I have never regressed to
a previous edition. This was not the case with my Orion I. The ease of
loading a new version of the K3 firmware is an added plus over the Orion
(power on - hold the proper buttons - hold tongue just right while
crossing fingers). If there is some substantive issue with a new K3
version, a corrected version appears within hours (not weeks or months
as was the case with my Orion I). Also, the actual programmers of the K3
are accessible and responsive. I never did succeed in contacting an
Orion I programmer. Waiting over a year for Orion firmware that did not
occasionally crash like Windows 3.1 was frustrating! Considering the big
3 japanese manufacturers; if it doesn't work to your expectations,
simply wait for a subsequent model introduction and see if that's better.

If one is not comfortable with frequent K3 firmware upgrades, simply
ignore the "beta" versions. New "production" versions are not all that
frequent.

If one enjoys playing with new features and functions as soon as the
guys in Aptos make them available, then dive into the "betas". It's an
opportunity to participate in the engineering process! Hey, these guys
LISTEN to our feedback. I'm having a ball participating in the evolution
of this fine radio. I think they're doing it in a most acceptable fashion.

You know the drill, fix this problem, add a new feature, and then find that
something that worked in previous versions does not function as expected and
now demands a fix and another firmware version.

Personally, I would like to see fewer firmware releases and more time spent vetting firmware before it is released. Firmware upgrades should be two steps forward -- period!

The rush to add new features and fix bugs in firmware appears to me to be too
rushed to be efficient and effective. Tell me fellows, why the rush?

Exactly, the ergonomics of the K3 have been well thought out.

BTW, to answer my own question a couple of posts back... It is the
SWTONE entry in the config menu (not yet implemented) which will allow
Morse Code feedback or audio tone on any control activation...
Looking forward to that. I assume it is imminent if it is listed on
the config menu (or at least definite).

[K3] [Elecraft] Software suggestion: a more prominent TEST indicator

2008-07-01 Thread Dave G4AON
The existing flashing TX indicator is just fine, leave it alone. Some of
us leave their K3 in a receive only state to avoid upsetting other gear,
in my case a broadband modem that fouls up at the smallest amount of RF.
It also avoids catching the paddles and accidentally sending RF when you
didn't plan to. If the "TEST" mode is used regularly you remember it...

So tell me, why would a periodic warning chirp be any more silly than
a little "TX" icon flashing at 1/2-second intervals?

Nah, voice warnings are not effective. Most of us spend our days
ignoring the vocal clatter pouring from cellphones, tv's , radios,
etc. (CW ops, anyway...)

What is needed is a switched relay on the K3 that would set off a
large fire alarm type bell. And maybe an electric jolt to the chair
seat for out-of-band operation...

Seriously, for people who don't see too well a couple of optional
audible annunciators might be useful.

So tell me, why would a periodic warning chirp be any more silly than
a little "TX" icon flashing at 1/2-second intervals?
