[E-devel] E18 CFBugs

2013-05-21 Thread Michael Blumenkrantz
Not to be confused with last year's Call For Beards, this is an open call
for people to submit any outstanding bug reports for E18.

Known issues:

* Window shading doesn't shade
* Keyboard movement of windows between desks/screens may be broken
* Shaped windows

Please note that any feature requests masquerading as bug reports will be
completely ignored.

tycat: fix videos aspect ratio when emotion_object_video_handled_get()

Sometimes, emotion_object_video_handled_get() will return NULL. In that
case, the video will be stretched to the terminal's width but only 3 lines
high. Use A/R information for better scaling.
Also support videos and fix aspect ratio.

  Patch by jpeg.

I think you should use git commit --amend --author before pushing
 those change upstream.

I used arc patch D135 as stated on
https://phab.enlightenment.org/D135 .
Then that dumb command wanted me to enter a commit message without
providing an obvious one: the one from the patch.
Then the git commit is done.

I don't know why it didn't work about authorship this time.
It worked fine with commit 5010b5fa0 as shown below:

WM windows open on the first desktop, no matter which desktop you
requested them from. Actually, after a quick experiment, that's
happening to any EFL based window. Always happens.

Sloppy focus is a bit too sloppy, sometimes leaving the window the
mouse ends up being over unfocused after a desktop switch. Have to
hover over some other window, or manually switch focus, to get it to
focus correctly. It works most of the time.

Claws-mail is still having trouble popping up it's temporary windows.
I've mentioned this several times. It started happening after some
change was made to fix up some one elses problem with claws-mail that I
was not getting. Can we have a --if-its-not-broke-don't-fix-it compile
flag for this please? Does not always happen, but sometimes it can
happen dozens of times in a row. Can take a long clicking frenzy on
the Send button to get emails to toddle off to their destination.

Just woke up, that's all I can think off right now.

Just noticed the new little green light on ibar, indicating all the apps
that are open right now I guess. Well, except for RoxTerm, it's open
and got no light. Going through all my ibar apps, dillo does not get
one either.

Yes, I realise that for some people the workaround works around an
actual problem, but for me the workaround has no actual problem to
actually work around, and it causes one instead. This is why I ask for
an option, instead of asking for a revert. It definitely happened for
the email I sent complaining about it, took two clicks of the Send

--if-its-not-broke-don't-fix-it compile flag for this please? Does
not always happen, but sometimes it can happen dozens of times in a
row. Can take a long clicking frenzy on the Send button to get
emails to toddle off to their destination.

I use claws and it works fine, all windows popping as expected in
  both sw and hw.

Yes, I realise that for some people the workaround works around an
actual problem, but for me the workaround has no actual problem to
actually work around, and it causes one instead. This is why I ask for
an option, instead of asking for a revert. It definitely happened for
the email I sent complaining about it, took two clicks of the Send
 button that time.

I guess you should probably provide the commit which supposedly broke it

Just woke up, that's all I can think off right now.

I look forward to your pending replies.

Not to be confused with last year's Call For Beards, this is an
open call for people to submit any outstanding bug reports for E18.

 Known issues:

 * Window shading doesn't shade
 * Keyboard movement of windows between desks/screens may be broken
 * Shaped windows

Please note that any feature requests masquerading as bug reports
 will be completely ignored.

Do you want just the core E18 or does this include modules that are
shipped with E? The systray module has been borked for a long time.

You will probably get the usual reply, the systray spec is borked. Any
 details on it's borkedness?

no, this is just an annoyance because people keep complaining that it's
broken because they haven't configured the xembed option.

Which got set to disabled by default even if only a minority of people
are having the dbus replacement which is now the default. :)

I also fall into that trap and was not happy.

Moving gadgets on a shelf only works right and down on small size shelves.
32/40 pixel size were my tests with screen resolution of 1680 x 1050.

With an Above Everything shelf, the shadow can (almost) entirely mask

You will probably get the usual reply, the systray spec is borked. Any

Yeah, that's why I haven't bothered filing a bug report or anything, most of
the devs seem to be somewhat violently opposed to the very existence of that
module.

With the default setting, it doesn't seem to work at all in most cases. Someone
on IRC pointed out that enabling Xembed makes it work most of the time. Even
then, it's throwing errors every time something on the shelf changes:
ERRedjelib/edje/edje_util.c:4106 file
/usr/share/enlightenment/data/themes/default.edj, group
e/modules/systray/main/default has a non-fixed part 'e.xembed.box'. Adding
'fixed: 1 1;' to source EDC may help. Continuing discarding faulty part.

And I've recently noticed an error whenever changing the setting:
ERRsystray/e_mod_main.c:611 safety check failed: inst == NULL

You will probably get the usual reply, the systray spec is borked. Any
 details on it's borkedness?

no, this is just an annoyance because people keep complaining that it's
broken because they haven't configured the xembed option.

Which got set to disabled by default even if only a minority of people
are having the dbus replacement which is now the default. :)

Okay, so that's the reason systray is broken for me. Thanks for the hint.

By the way, anyone else noticed that with the xembed option turned on,
the systray is still visible when the screen is locked?

Got it, thanks :)

Another problem with e18:
I have sloppy focus and dialogs get focus, but I don't have send pointer
to windows that get focused.
Well, when a new dialog appears it gets the focus as expected and the
mouse pointer doesn't move, but if I move the pointer to the dialog it
looses focus so I have to first click on the dialog to be able to click
one of its buttons.

[E-devel] [PATCH][GIT] Emotion add emotion_module_option_get API and pass options to a/v engine

2013-05-21 Thread Nicolas Aguirre
Hi there,
please find attached a patch which introduce a new emotion API :
emotion_module_option_get, which retrieves the parameters set with
emotion_module_option_set. This patch also pass options to the engine.
It's usefull in case of VLC to give specific arguments for example,
the --no-video-title, it's annoying to have the name of the film
displayed at statup.

I'm not sure this is the best thing we ca do here, but it' doesn't
break the API and it does the job, so please review.

There is also a patch for emotion_generic_players to pass such
arguments to vlc generic player.

No bugs in my beard.

 Known issues:

 * Window shading doesn't shade
 * Keyboard movement of windows between desks/screens may be
 broken
 * Shaped windows

WM windows open on the first desktop, no matter which desktop
you requested them from. Actually, after a quick experiment,
that's happening to any EFL based window. Always happens.

   Always doesn't happen here.

  100% reproducible for me.

Sloppy focus is a bit too sloppy, sometimes leaving the window
the mouse ends up being over unfocused after a desktop switch.
Have to hover over some other window, or manually switch focus,
to get it to focus correctly. It works most of the time.

   Fixed this last week.

May not have happened since my last rebuild, I was not paying
attention. So you might be right.

Claws-mail is still having trouble popping up it's temporary
windows. I've mentioned this several times. It started
happening after some change was made to fix up some one elses
problem with claws-mail that I was not getting. Can we have a
--if-its-not-broke-don't-fix-it compile flag for this please?
Does not always happen, but sometimes it can happen dozens of
times in a row. Can take a long clicking frenzy on the Send
button to get emails to toddle off to their destination.

I use claws and it works fine, all windows popping as expected in
   both sw and hw.

Yes, I realise that for some people the workaround works around an
actual problem, but for me the workaround has no actual problem to
actually work around, and it causes one instead. This is why I ask
for an option, instead of asking for a revert. It definitely
happened for the email I sent complaining about it, took two clicks
of the Send button that time.

I guess you should probably provide the commit which supposedly broke
 it

After a lot of searching, my guess is this commit -

Log:
gtk developers with IQs over 180 enjoy hiding and showing their windows
constantly, especially when resizing. this broke e's comp since we are
not nearly that clever and try to defer hide animations in most cases.
undoing the defer whenever this happens allows us to keep up with their
towering genius.
fixes ticket #765 and probably some others.
  affected apps: claws-mail, firefox

The timing of that first one seems to match the timing of my first
complaints. It might not be those at all, but they do match the was
not broke for me until it got fixed nature of this bug.

One clue, the missing windows do indeed sometimes flash into view
briefly before vanishing. It's almost like whether or not the window
should be shown is being fought over.

That option is disabled and greyed out here. It's part of the autohide
stuff, which made it hard to find. Enabling autohide did not ungrey
that option. So I can't experiment with that option to find out if it
helps.

means it should be below, as in underneath, everything,
including windows. Did not do this before, now it does.
Unless there's some new do what it says on the tin option
  I missed?

it's still under the windows. the maximization policy is
totally different, and none of that code has been changed in
 any way.

And yet, before maximising a window would actually take up the
entire desktop, now it leaves space for allegedly below
everything shelves. How is this not a change? How is it
separate from the shelf code? How is this not a bug?

feel free to look at the e_zone_useful_geometry_get, which is
used to calculate maximization geometry for windows and hasn't
been changed in a long, long time.

Or I could feel free to send a screenshot of my rather large desktop
with an obviously not so large maximised window in it, but I'm
already busy tracking down that other bug report of mine that you
don't believe exists. Yes, this bug has been around for a while.
I'd not reported it coz everything was in flux with all the big
changes that screwed up everything. Now that you are asking for
bug reports, here it is. Enjoy. B-)

That option is disabled and greyed out here. It's part of the autohide
stuff, which made it hard to find. Enabling autohide did not ungrey
that option. So I can't experiment with that option to find out if it
 helps.

The other option is hiding in
Settings-Windows-Window Geometry-Automatic-Adjust windows on shelf hide
(Apply)

Then enable auto-hide, enable Don't adjust windows...
disable auto-hide again

Now maximize ignores shelves independently of stacking option.

Somewhat convoluted I know.

That did the trick. All kinds of insane though.

I'll change my bug report to - insane config options blah blah blah.

   Hi,

I've written an 'all script' lua edje, which
   creates/modifies/deletes a couple of objects.

Everything seems fine, until the application is closed (not
crashing), when it complains about exceeding lua's memory limit.
   Is this expected?

If not, do you need me to provide code, or is it even a known
   issue?

Don't think I've seen that before. Please provide code.

Edje Lua tracks how much memory you have allocated to each Lua
script, and will complain about that if you exceed it, but that
should not be happening when you are shutting down.

Sorry for taking this long. See the attached edc. If you confirm
this, I can open a ticket, if necessary.

 Thanks for looking into this.

Fixed. It seems that weak tables are not working as advertised. We
are using a weak table to store references to the evas objects we
create so that we can pull Lua objects representing them out of that
table to pass back to Lua calls that return previously created evas
objects. But those references prevented the evas objects from being
garbage collected, so they leaked.

Thanks for your test script.

Being a bug fix, this should be back ported to git's legacy/edge

 100% reproducible for me.

Sloppy focus is a bit too sloppy, sometimes leaving the window the

  Fixed this last week.

May not have happened since my last rebuild, I was not paying
attention. So you might be right.

Or not, it's still too sloppy. Updated an hour ago.
