if you have scrolling on middle + trackpoint, change the binding to
right button. imo it would be nicer to make this default. not sure if
this is some 'standard' binding for window managers though

Hi,
the issue with not connecting to tracker was fixed recently but I
guess it is not yet packaged. It should work for you either by
starting tracker before enlightenment or after restarting e.

[e-users] Everything is empty! plugins moved to modules(for svn users only)

2010-04-11 Thread hannes.janet...@gmail.com
Hello,

The plugins for the Everything module which were before loaded
differently are now e-modules. If you have an existing config, you'll
need to enable them with the Modules dialog.

.. what about adding a ChangeLog dialog at least for the snapshot releases?

Hannes

before you do that enable Everything module which comes with e17 and
make a shortcut for "show Everything dialog". or just "show apps

whether a text part listens to scale changes is defined in the theme.
in data/themes/default.edc group e/widgets/menu/default/label. but
scaling is set there to one so it should work. if you use the default
theme.

yes, the maybe not so easy: extract the theme: edje_decc theme.edj.
change the theme group e/widgets/menu/default/label to include
'scaling: 1;' then run ./build.sh in the extracted theme dir. or
contact the author to update the theme.

[e-users] svn http/https co fails

2010-06-15 Thread hannes.janet...@gmail.com
Hi,
every now and then svn co does not work giving this result:
~/src/e-svn$ svn co https://svn.enlightenment.org/e/trunk/TEST/app/e test_e
svn: OPTIONS of 'https://svn.enlightenment.org/e/trunk/TEST/app/e':

ecomorph does not draw the background. it is a window created by e17.

you can render edje with opengl though you are restricted to what is
possible with evas/edje. you cannot use native opengl commands, doing
the animation you describe will be pretty hard with evas I guess. Best
way I can think of you could achieve an opengl bg atm is to use a
compositing manager, create the opengl bg in a separate window, layer
it below e's bg and make e's bg transparent. If you get the proposed
animation working I would look into the other parts :)

load 'run everything' and 'everything applications' modules and add a
keybinding for 'show everything dialog'. this should give you the same
behavior as exebuf and is what you get by default with a new
configuration profile. otherwise there is the old exebuf in svn
E-MODULES-EXTRA.

you can set all screen options also with xrandr utility. if you found
the right options you can add a keybinding to 'launch->command'
action with that options. sth like 'xrandr --output LVDS1 --rotate
left'. hope this helps for now.

Isn't it the other way round? smart expansion should maximize windows
so that they do not overlap shelves that do not allow overlapping.
what is it that you really want? does smart expansion not fill the
space that you want it to?

Ok, I guess one part is a problem with initial placement of windows
that are larger than the available space without overlapping
shelves(useful geometry) and the other is a bug in fill policy that
it does not take non-overlap shelves into account. For the first one
could resize initial window to be within 'useful geometry' though not
sure what side effects this might have. If you keep firefox smaller
than useful geometry it shouldnt overlap with shelves when opening it
or does it?

I would like to add efm_nav and efm_pathbar to fileman module so that
efm becomes useful in browser-mode (vs spatial mode) before release.

this is probably a theme issue. also when the shelf is transparent in

some more stuff. Currently it builds for natty, maverick and oneiric,
when someone needs packages for older versions of ubuntu I can add
more.

ppa:hannes-janetzek/enlightenment-svn

This is my first try on doing sth with packaging so suggestions and
help is welcome.

[e-users] [ANNOUNCE] new settings-daemon module

2011-09-23 Thread hannes.janet...@gmail.com
Hey,

I've added xsettings-module to e-modules-extra. it's pretty much proto
but it does what I mostly wanted it for:

- set global icon theme to match the one selected in e17.

- adding 'data { "gtk-theme" "theme_name"; }' to e17 themes allows to
automatically use a gtk theme matching e17 theme.

in config dialog one can override these options to set themes explicitly.

do you know how to tell qt to use a specific theme or to list themes
available to qt? It would be good if qt could use XSettings spec.
actually the property i set is Net/IconThemeName so it seems to be
intended to work cross toolkit. though this spec seems to be only used
by gtk.. I don't have a clue about how to do these things with qt.

As far as i can see it's not possible for e to set kde themes in
general in a sane way. with gtk you have a theme file that defines
which engine is used + all engine options. so only theme name needs to
be set. with qt you have to set a style engine that can store it's
config somewhere unknown to qt/kde (bespin e.g.) + color scheme. so
one would need to know for each engine where it stores its settings to
write its config. furthermore there is no spec which says where qt/kde
writes its config or which signal is used to tell app to update their
config. Then i dont like the idea to write to qt config files spread
all over the place, so i would suggest to ask Qt people to adopt
xsettings spec :)

this seems to be a bug. do you mean fullscreen windows or maximized
(they are on different layers unless 'allow windows to be above
fullscreen' option is set)? in both cases Evry should appear above the
window.

Theres is now gnome theme support within e17 under look->applications.
there you can also disable e's xsettings support if you need to use
gsd for other reasons. Gtk font can be change with look->fonts by
changing 'Applications' font class. I have to come up with a solution
for these conflicting options though..

yes, there is an option in look->applications->'enable settings
daemon' which makes e17 manage xsettings. it needs to be disabled to
make gnome-settings-daemon work. Maybe it would be good to add the
option to use gnome-settings-daemon to that dialog (and graying out
the other settings when enabled) to avoid confusion.

seems like a eclipse bug with focus-window-under-mouse, should work

not in the mood to fix this. But maybe I'll look after it some day.

https://launchpad.net/~hannes-janetzek/+archive/enlightenment-svn/

Please let me know when you have an EFL based apps that you think

let's see if it still builds so far only dependencies were missing.
but frankly i would only use with my old x40 as its driver does not
support gl shaders. the project is dead. for the things i liked it
there is comp-scale now.

if there is a easy way to save a working snapshot of svn builds to
another repository this would be really good. i found a reference to
copy-package.py but not the code..
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArchiveAdministration. marking each package
each time on launchpad for copying is not sth that i'll do regularly

Sure it would be good to have an arm builds ppa. Though i would
suggest to make a separate project for this as I dont have the time to
manage it nor hardware to test. Also it would be better to use the
released libraries instead of my constantly failing svn builds i
guess.

No history editor available, though there are some keys documented for
'cheat sorting'
http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki/Gadgets/Everything

or you can extract, edit, and recompile:
eet -d ~/.e/e/config/_profile_/module.everything.cache.cfg config evry.txt
for the more advanced, but nothing in between

Re: [e-users] Beginner question on modularity of E17

2012-12-16 Thread hannes.janet...@gmail.com
I guess your real question is already answered... just for the
modularity part: if haskell could be used as embedded interpreter it
should be possible to write a module for e17 that provides hooks to
run XMonad window management functions within enlightenment. tiling
and illume module replace lots of the window managing logic for
example :)

iirc tiling is enabled in the config dialog in window settings by
setting the number of columns/rows greater than zero. the module also
adds a few actions that should be bound to preferred shortcuts. still
it is imo no replacement for a tiling wm yet

for Evrything I know that it just uses the raw input. Looking at
edje_entry it does not seem that easy to add IM support.. It might be
possible to use edje_entry in evry, forwarding key events to entry and
reading its content back for search. Any suggestions? (asking the
devs)

ok, found the cause: lid was bound to 'System Controls' which grabs
input and is hidden behind desklock. anyway this is not default
config, but still should be fixed somehow. i.e. dont allow anything to
grab input while desklock is active.

while I'm at it: 'Processor' should probably not be an assignable ACPI action :)

the maximum number of menu items seem to depend on screen height when
'text scaling' is not the default setting. I could reproduce with
navigate files menu. also when there are really many directories the
menu does not show at all in any case, maybe it should be limited as
it is unlikely that anyone will scroll through 1000+ dirs by menu or
wants to wait for the menu to be build

as the menu could be larger than maximum X window size or rather
texture size one needs to calculate the menu size before and
if it is larger menu scrolling needs to be handled differently - i
guess it would be easiest to have a menu window of screen height and
scroll the box holdings menu items

e17 does modify X's keyboard settings for while. I've also seen the
issue with loosing keys when using e with my heavily modified xmodmap.
Try to delete all key bindings and reassign the ones in use.. On my
TODO is to add an option to fully disable e's xkb handling.

this sounds like a different issue than what I've had but most likely
also related to e_xkb. If you want to try you could disable it by
running this in ~/.e/e/config/_your_profile_/ while not being logged
into e:

 eet -d e.cfg config $2>&1 | sed -e '/^.*E_Config_XKB_Layout/,+5d' |
sed -e '/^.*xkb\./,+0d' > tmp && eet -e  e.cfg config tmp 1

I haven't seen this yet. could you try disabling plugins one by one to
see which one causes the slow down?
(in Settings -> 'Launcher' -> 'Evrything' -> Plugins Tab). I suspect
that it might be caused by efreet as it now uses a dbus daemon to get
Application items.

hmm, ok. currently not sure how to remote debug this issue.. do you
use the efl release or svn?
maybe log of strace or valgrind --tool=callgrind running e might be
useful if you know how to get it :)

[e-users] [E-devel] new module: systray

2009-03-24 Thread hannes.janet...@gmail.com
Hello,

the systray module will need some special handling to work with
itask-ng. It's already planned to make support for it, though it could
take some time til I get to this.

Regards,
Hannes

Re: [e-users] Is E17 causing memory leak in X.org ?

2009-06-11 Thread hannes.janet...@gmail.com
hi,
for me the xserver used up to 500MB after one day running. I found the
trigger for X's leaking to be e's animated idle mouse
pointer. try turn it off. maybe you could file a bug for xserver if
it's the same issue.
