It can be done in mixed mode. There are some limitation with distribution list permission. Do you have Technet or Internet access? According to the documentation the Server must be in Native Mode. The current Domain cannot be upgraded to Native mode as there is one NT 4.0 BDC. For some limitations we cannot install a Child Domain and switch it to Native Mode. My question is: Why is it necessary for the Domain to be in Native Mode for ADC to work? Is it possible to do the migration in a Mixed Mode Windows 2000 Domain? If so what are the limitations or work around? If you guys can help me with this one it is very great. RE: extension smtp cannot be loaded
The version conflict that it talks about is after you have migrated to a new server. Seeings as though you don't say you have migrated, and it has 'just started' it more likely seems as though it could be something else. If a reboot doesn't help, remove the IMS and install it again. Obviously this is going to cause some downtime. But it does sound as though something has got itself confused somewhere. I am receiving extension smtp cannot be loaded when trying to open the IMC on my Ex 5.5 SP4 / NT 4 SP6a. I have the option of abort/ignore/retry, if I ignore the IMC opens. This has just recently (past week) started, I originally saw it running admin from my W2K pro workstation. It also happens logged onto the server. Q196924 and Q250907 both refer to a version conflict of IMCADMIN.DLL but when I follow the instructions and look at the version number in raw mode it matches the version of the file. Any ideas? I am planning a reboot during off hours but I hate that answer. The only other thing I can think of right now would be to re-apply SP4 but that is not a willy-nilly answer for a production server. firewall problem
Dear all, I have several exchange servers which work fine through a firewall except one, using the TechNet recommended ports for DS and IS of 1300 and 1301 respectively. The one that doesn't work is one which is running Win2K. The others run NT4. I have set the ports to 1300 and 1301 in the registry as usual, but the server is ignoring this fact. It is just using random ports and so I am having to change the firewall ports instead!!! The ports it uses change after every reboot, so obviously, this is troublesome. Anyone have a fix for this? What about monitoring of those servers in the DMZ? Do you use PerfMon to check queues or critical processes? Stop doing brick level backups 2. Get rid of ArghServe 3. Buy CommVault Galaxy to do backups. Their product provides real item level recovery and also supports restores 4. Upgrade ScanMail to 3.6 and use ESE scanning. If this is too much to do right away, go ahead and do #4 and it'll be a workaround. When you have some time though, you really should 1. RE: AVAPI virus-scan preventing Brick-level backups
I'm hoping someone has been able to resolve a similar issue because management is talking about going back to MAPI mode in order to continue bricklevel backups which I am trying to fight against. It's quite amusing that management would rather switch back to a virus scanning method that doesn't always work properly in order to continue with a backup method that doesn't work properly than they would do something to fix either problem properly. I thought that was why they hire us to make these decisions for them. -- Robert Moir, IT Systems Engineer, Luton Sixth Form College Rome did not create a mighty empire by having management meetings -- This e-mail is intended for the addressee shown. RE: Exchange Backup
The script is not Y2K compliant. Notice in the 2nd line it references 8/15/98. Clearly to be Y2K compliant the year needs to be in a 4 digit format. Also the month should be 2 digits as well. So 08/15/1998 would be the Y2K compliant version. Also, you might have a problem with your sound card that is impacting your backup. Hiding Public Folder View in OWA E2K error
Running E2K/SP2 on a Global Controller in mixed mode. When I go to System Manger\Servers\%servername%\Protocols\Http\Public and then right click on to Properties and uncheck Read, Write, Script Access and Directory Browsing. I then launch the browser to access via OWA. The public folder does not show (that's what I was trying to accomplish) but I get an Acess Denied message. If I flip from shortcut to folder view the message does not show again. When you close and try again is when the message appears when going to folder view. I tried deleting cache files and making sure Authenication matched the Virtual to the IIs settings. If I set it back to default (all checked) and clear browser cache the problem goes away but then I am showing access to Public Folders. I am testing this using IE 5.5 with current patches. If I find the solution I will let you all know in the mean time suggestions welcome. _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Why are you running ScanMail 3.02? There are older versions than that you can use. Maybe it's time to downgrade. I think the problem is with ScanMail here. I have a similar setup with up-to-date software and my logs show that I catch that same virus. Never had that issue. The list of products involved: NT Server 4.0 Cluster Server SP 6a Exchange Server 5.5 SP 4 ArcServeIT 6.61 SP 2a Trend ScanMail for Exchange 3.52 Problem: Since switching ScanMail to run in AVAPI mode from MAPI mode we are unable to perform Brick-Level backups on our Exchange Server. (Regular backups are fine) In the ArcServe Log I see error E8601 Failed to connect agent (AGENT = dbaxchg2, EC = 402). When I go to Arcserve and try and manually do a brick backup as soon as I tickle the icon for the brick an error pops up: EC = EXCH Exchange Agent - - (402) Exchange system error. Now I've called ArcServe and I've done research and found that 402 normally means the mailbox you are trying to restore is either not there or hidden. I have verified that that's not the case, and their support doesn't seem to know of a problem with AVAPI virus brick backups. I found one KB article Q264731 (http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q264731 ) bu t my Registry already had the suggested settings. I'm hoping someone has been able to resolve a similar issue because management is talking about going back to MAPI mode in order to continue bricklevel backups which I am trying to fight against. RE: Hiding Public Folder View in OWA E2K error
Don't control permissions or access to anything OWA related in ESM.. The IIS Admin MMC is for that. One might ask why they give you the ability to dink with anything in ESM then... but one would miss the beauty of the forest for the trees. I believe what you want to do is either edit the navbar.js or more likely, upgrade to Exchange 2000 SP and then read the associated documentation for information on how to restrict access to particular OWA features. After the successful move, I will be removing the original (which is the first server in site) Exchange server from the site; but the actual server will remain as it is our PDC. Here's what I'm doing: Moving Exchange from one server to another. Both are configured with NT4 SP6a, E5.5 SP4. Both are in the same NT domain, the same Exchange Org and Site, each server has a different name. After the successful move, I will be removing the original (which is the first server in site) Exchange server from the site; but the actual server will remain as it is our PDC. That is, only the Exchange server application will be removed from it. The original server is also the Proxy server and is the server with the physical connection to the internet. The new server is a member server of the domain. This is a single domain. Looking at his instructions, I've completed everything thru number 5. I'm not sure I understand steps number 6 and 6a. When it says move any connectors from the old server to another server, does that mean to the new Exchange server or a third server? And since this is a single site, can I assume that step 6a doesn't apply for me? As you can see I'm pretty confused and new to Exchange. I can't even see how to move connectors. If you can help here, that would be great, or, recommend a book that would help. Thanks. SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder
Greetings all, I'm attempting to subscribe to the Bugtraq mailing list. As I've done for other lists (including this one), I've created a public folder to receive the list messages. I've given myself rights to send as the public folder, unhidden it from the GAL, and sent a subscription message to Bugtraq as the public folder. Bugtraq replies with a confirmation message, only it comes, not to the PF, but to my inbox. Below is the header of the subscription message they received: Return-Path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: (qmail 6395 invoked from network); 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: from mail.securityfocus.com (HELO securityfocus.com) (66.38.151.9) by lists.securityfocus.com with SMTP; 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: (qmail 14298 invoked by alias); 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: (qmail 14292 invoked from network); 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: from fw-gw.stcservices.com (HELO altair.mail.stcservices.com) (205.147.247.78) by mail.securityfocus.com with SMTP; 12 Dec 2001 16:07:45 - Received: by altair.mail.stcservices.com with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2650.21) id XXPT7NV8; Wed, 12 Dec 2001 11:11:08 -0500 Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: BugtraQ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 11:11:05 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2650.21) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 -- As you can see, although the From field shows the public folder's email address, the Return-Path field shows MY email address. RE: Hiding Public Folder View in OWA E2K error
The customized feature that I tried and has failed is on page 80 of the Customizing Microsoft Outlook Web Access White Paper dated 11/2001. Has anyone tried this one and get the same results? Don't control permissions or access to anything OWA related in ESM.. The IIS Admin MMC is for that. One might ask why they give you the ability to dink with anything in ESM then... but one would miss the beauty of the forest for the trees. I believe what you want to do is either edit the navbar.js or more likely, upgrade to Exchange 2000 SP and then read the associated documentation for information on how to restrict access to particular OWA features. RE: Hiding Public Folder View in OWA E2K error
Always nice to include what you're trying in the original post, but I think my answer is still the correct one. As I mentioned, the navbar.js can be edited to remove the PF icon or, the sp2deply.doc included with the SP2 download describes a post 11/2001 methodology for restricting access to PFs. Default = Author, Anonymous = None. There are no other perms specified. My guess is it's not a permissions problem - there are no errors or anything of that nature. Home Server of a Replicated Public Folder
I'm trying to find the home server of a replicated public folder. I've read and found that I'm searching for the PR_REPLICA_SERVER property of the folder, which should tell me the home server. Re: Inbound Messages Awaiting Conversion
Casey, I have seen several instances of corrupted messages getting stuck in the MTS-IN queue as you describe. Most were messages that had a virus and were partially cleaned at a remote site and them mailed out. Have a look a Q165505 at the MS Support website. Also, are you sure this particular server is at SP4 as this behavious was a problem that wasn't fully fixed until SP2. RE: Inbound Messages Awaiting Conversion
Michael, Thanks for the reply. This server wasn't build until after SP4 came out so that is the only service pack level that has been applied to it. I believe that the problem does have to do with corrupt messages because I removed everything from the IMCdata in folder to another location and copied a few messages up at a time and they were delivered successfully.
