Hi,

Can anyone shed any light on any of these errors, the event log was
filled with 100s of these this morning

a question about how to import mail files,
  specifically .ost files !
  I have
an .ost file from an existing NT account created earlier say "james"
and the "james" as the name of this mailbox.  Now
the guy is gone and I had deleted this account.  But now we have decided to recreate his account
because we want to redirect his mail to someone

problems but I need to see his
previous mail that is stored from the .ost file!  Is there a way I can
import/merger from Outlook client or from
the Exchange server to get his

When I set the .ost to the path

  used!
Thanks in advance of any help you can

A few of my users are asking me to create hundreds of folders in their
Personal Folders file. Does anyone know of a way to script that job, given
a list of names?

A related issue: they want to share repositories of mail notes. One way is
to keep them in a .pst file, but user A has to close his Outlook so user B
can access it - inconvenient. User A sharing his inbox with user B works,
but B might see some stuff A wants confidential. I suggested a common
mailbox to which they could forward only messages they want to share. How
are your users sharing such stuff?

We have an Exchange 5.5/SP3 server and use Outlook 2000.

TIA

What is the line of the code running when you get this error? It sounds like
a dll is not registered after the IIS patch. Are you running the VBScript

(E5.5 SP4/ NT4 SP6a) We have a VB script running on a web server that
uses LDAP to allow users to modify certain fields in the Exchange schema.
It worked fine until we applied the Code Red patch to IIS. Now users get a
Provider error '80040154', Class not registered when attempting to locate
their mailbox.

Does anyone know if this patch breaks certain settings in the schema that
may be causing this? Didn't know if alot of you were doing this sort of
stuff but I thought I'd take a chance.

Removing Newsgroups

2001-12-03 Thread Kieran Fitzgerald

Hi all,

    I
was wondering whether anyone come across an easy way to remove newsgroup
listings from ex2k? I had originally set up a newsfeed,
which then downloaded 25000 newsgroups onto our server.  When I try and delete the roots of the
newsgroup hierarchy it kills system manager, and generates huge volumes of
logs.  I am assuming it is to do with
the volume of exchange objects being deleted in one go, because I can delete
individual newsgroups without any issue.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in Advance

OWA logoff

2001-12-03 Thread Simon Taylor

I am running OWA on my exchange 2000 machine. I have had some issues
with people using this custom terminals, such as you find in airports
etc. that are just a browser and you cannot shut the window to log off.
this of course poses a security threat and I have adjusted the timeout
on the webserver to be much shorter, but the risk is still there.
Is there any other way to get owa to log you off and close your session
without having to close your browser window?
any ideas appreciated.

RE: Change Exchange IP

2001-12-03 Thread Charles Whitby

We have OWA set up on a computer in our DMZ. I beleive the only change I
had to make on it was inform it of the new WINS server address so it could
find our Exchange box.

We have a Cisco 2500 series router connecting us to the 'net that is also
NATing our exchange box. Our public e-mail address is resolved by our ISP
to the WAN port of this router: the router then takes anything to do with
e-mail, ports 25 and 110, and sends them to the proper internal private
address (via our Checkpoint FW1).

We don't have any kind of VPN set up so I can't help you there.

Hope this helps.

Oh good, so I can pick your brain huh :-) I'm in process of doing this and
it's not working. What settings do I need to update to use OWA through a
Firewall and a NAT. I read a MS doc that says to static route 2 ports on
the exchange server, how does this affect my internal LAN users?

Would this also affect my telecommuter users who VPN/PPTP into my email

If you're running OWA, you may need to update that.

Also, we have a web application that enables a potential customer to send
e-mails to our CS department from the web site. If you have something like
that you may have to update the SMTP settings in IIS (or whatever you use)
on your web server.

Also if your Exchange box is running the IMS service and you're being NAted
by a firewall or router you will need to update those settings.

Just recently did this, so the memories are fresh (but almost healed)

Hope it helps.

We plan to change the IP number of our EXCHANGE server. Is there any thing
that I should be care of? I know changing the name of Exchange will create
problem, but haven't heard any on changing IP.

I would be grateful if you could give any advice and comments.

Thanks.

Any problems with this?

2001-12-03 Thread Kevin Fricke

To redo an Exchange 2000 Enterprise install where DR policy states it must
be installed to the C: drive, instead of the D: drive (news to me at the
time):

- shut down the Exchange server without uninstalling (mimicking a total
hardware failure)
-Clean up the server account in AD
-Wipe the hard drive of the server and reinstall everything from scratch,
using the original server name and IP.

Will this work?

2001-12-03 Thread Kevin Fricke

Another issue you might need to be aware of is that any attachments viewed
through OWA are d/l'ed to the local PC and stored in a temp directory. You
might want to advise users that view sensitive attachments through OWA on
a device such as that to clear the temp directory when finished, or, if
they can't, not to view attachments that way.

is at the office during that time. I only have about 50 mailboxes on the

Could it be that I am being used as a relay???

2001-12-03 Thread John Matteson

PLEASE READ THE FAQ!!

Do not, REPEAT Do NOT, run a file level scanner on your Exchange server. You
will F*SCK up many files that are necessary for Exchange to operate
correctly.

USE ONLY AN EXCHANGE AWARE SCANNER like TREND MICRO's SCAN MAIL.

If you (or your pointed headed boss) insist on running a file level scanner
on an Exchange server, EXCLUDE any and all directories that are named
EXCHSRVR and all the subdirectories. This will minimize that you will F*SCK
up important Exchange files.

Check your options in Outlook as far as the choice of how many months of
free/busy information to show on the calendar. The default is 2-3 months, I
believe. Extend this out and you will see more items show up.

Of course, there could be a nefarious plot to cripple Outlook 98 and make
you upgrade by 2001. :-)

RE: Outlook 98 ?

2001-12-03 Thread Bill Matthews

These dates live in a file called Outlook.txt on the local machine. That
file can be manually edited or edited through Outlook. I have not found an
updated file available on the MS site, downloading and applying in SP2 for
Office 2000 did not change my file which ends with the 2002 year.

There are many Outlook lists, here is one: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The question came up there awhile back, I don't recall seeing an answer
other than editing the file.

Good morning,

Outlook 98 exchange 5.5 sp4.

Please direct me to an Outlook user group if this is an Outlook problem...

When adding holidays to the calendar it only adds holidays from 1997 - 2001.
We do not have holidays for anything from 12/24/2001 - to the end of time.

Exchange does not have this capability. You'd need to purchase a
third-party SMTP mailer with this feature and use it as a smart host.

Resources in Exchange 5.5

2001-12-03 Thread Jason Dwyer

Hi all

we have exchange 5.5 sp4 and i have setup resources, but I can't get them to
auto respond as to their availibility. I have them all linked to a users
account and have logged in as the user and set the auto respond options
within outlook but no answer from the server.

Any ideas would be hot.

You need to link them to the Resource delegate and give him access to accept
on their behalf.

MAPI
gets overloaded.
If you
were to have a  virus like ILOVEYOU attack, it would hammer your mail
server so hard, that a MAPI scanner would overload. If MAPI overloads, it will
pass the infected emails. That is one of the worse things about MAPI based
scanning. Whereas an AVAPI or ESE based scanner would essentially just allow
them to pile up behind it and not pass them until scanned.

MAPI gets overloaded.

If you were to have
a  virus like ILOVEYOU attack, it would hammer your mail server so hard,
that a MAPI scanner would overload. If MAPI overloads, it will pass the
infected emails. That is one of the worse things about MAPI based scanning.
Whereas an AVAPI or ESE based scanner would essentially just allow them to pile
up behind it and not pass them until scanned.

E2K and OWA over SSL : resources

2001-12-03 Thread Eric

Hello,

I have just installed a FE/BE architecture. Users can now access their
mailboxes through OWA w/SSL. They connect to the FE and the latter proxies
the requests to the BE. And it works good. No problem up to now.

Is anybody familiar with this kind of setup? If so, where could I find
good/excellent resources on the topic and making sure everything is REALLY
secured. Because even though we use an FE/BE setup over SSL, I am kind of
afraid or stressed out when I know I am letting someone inside the
network... See what I mean?

Thank you,

Eric

respond options within outlook but no answer from the server.

Any ideas would be hot.

you can delete log files out of \imcdata\out\archive and
\imcdata\in\archive while services are running & you can delete log
files out of \imcdata\logs while services are not running.

do not delete any other log files. if the above frees enough space,
restart the services and run an online backup.

Another issue you might need to be aware of is that any attachments
viewed through OWA are d/l'ed to the local PC and stored in a temp
directory. You might want to advise users that view sensitive
attachments through OWA on a device such as that to clear the temp
directory when finished, or, if they can't, not to view attachments that

Hi!
Cannot connect to the Exchange server because the HD on which the info
store runs is full. What can I do? A back-up is under way, so the log
should be flushed and leave space on the HD. But I am afraid : I cannot
see the MBX and Public Folders files...

Would you care to elaborate on this? I've run both O2K and O2K2, I've yet
find this option. In fact, it's not possible without a third party software
package.

RE: Delay messages

2001-12-03 Thread Zangara, Jim
Title: RE: Delay messages

The delay option is in corp. mode as well.  But it does not do what the original poster asked which is delaying messages over one mb - it simply delays the selected message.  Kind of a pain that I doubt users would actually do.  It does take a third party to effectively do this.

RE: MS Exchange connector for Pop3 Mailboxes

2001-12-03 Thread exchlist

Hello,
Couldn't you have your exchange server forward mail directly to
their exchange server? I am not sure exactly how to do it, but I think
there is a way to have exchange (your server) spool their mail. When
their (the company) connects to the internet, their server would query
your exchange server notifying it that its up, causing it to dump all
spooled mail to their server. A small company I worked for had this
type of arrangement with their upstream ISP. The ISP spooled mail that
was not able to be delivered for a set time (5 days I think). Anyway,
the exchange server would query the ISP when it was back up and running
causing a mail dump. I know I didn't have pop connectors setup.

Just a suggestion,

M

Hi Bob,

I still have a few clients setup like this using NT4 and Exchange 5.5.
Do a search on Google for a freebie utility called pullmail.exe. Then
you can write a batch file to pull the e-mail off of the POP server and
feed it to Exchange.

For example:

rasdial ISP USER PASSWORD

pullmail.exe POPMAILBOX USER PASSWORD /to:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

rasdial ISP /disconnect

The above works especially well with an ISDN connection.

As an alternative you have a program called POPBeamer available at
www.dataenter.co.at POPBeamer works really well and is what is still
collecting e-mail at the last place I worked.

Hope this gets you on the right track. If you need any help or want me
to mail you the pullmail.exe (a whopping 123k!) software feel free to
contact me off list.

Later,

Using Outlook 2000.

I thought that the whole point was that the resource would answer
automatically without any input from users.

Subject: Resources in Exchange 5.5

Hi all

we have exchange 5.5 sp4 and i have setup resources, but I can't get
them to auto respond as to their availibility. I have them all linked
to a users account and have logged in as the user and set the auto
respond options within outlook but no answer from the server.

Any ideas would be hot.

Regards,

Jason Dwyer
