I have tried every reference to solve the MSExchangeFBPublish problem

consistantly shows up in my event viewer. The server was upgraded from

When users open Outlook 2000 (Only version in place at this time), the
always get an error message that states that the calendar was unable to
update the Free/Busy information.

Has anyone else had this issue?

You don't have a PTR record for 194.211.210.208.in-addr.arpa,
(208.210.211.194 = iegate.ccpace.com but your server presents itself as
PMS02.internal.ccpace.com in its SMTP conversation). Earthlink requires
a valid reverse DNS lookup. Fix your public DNS to reflect that PTR
record pointing to iegate.ccpace.com, and in the advanced properties of
your SMTP virtual server, enter iegate.ccpace.com as the FQDN.

Setup is Exchange 2K, SP2, single site, single server. We do
not allow relay, and are requiring reverse DNS for delivery.
We've had problems with users sending to any address at
@earthlink.net being bounced back. The use can email to it
from an external account and after a few tries with E2K, the
email goes through. Here's a copy of one of the messages.
Any ideas or insights would be appreciated. Thx - Emily

RE: Messages dissapearing from my inbox in Outlook 2000 !!!

2002-08-01 Thread Don Graham

Thanks Ken but I think it's fixed now since I changed my password. I
think it was a POP account pulling my mail which I might have setup
somewhere but I really dont remember. I am getting old so could be
alzhymer or something [grin].

I've seen this happen before. Either it's:
 1) A POP account somewhere (which you have determined shouldn't be the case)

 2) Outlook is goofed up, deleting the profile and re-creating it fixes it
 for us
 3) Your Views (Views...Current View...Customize Current View...) is screwed
up. Again deleting the profile fixed this.

Did you try logging in from a different workstation to see if you can see
your messages or try using OWA. If OWA looks right then it's the client.

Outlook profiles in Windows 2000

2002-08-01 Thread Stephen J. Norton

I'm building some Windows 2000 machines for a remote office. All Windows
profiles are stored locally. I'm trying to set up Outlook 2K so that
whenever a user logs on, they will be presented with the choice of Outlook
profiles when they launch Outlook. As Admin I can set this up within Outlook
but if another user logs on, Outlook prompts them to create a mailbox and
does not display the profile list I created. Tried MS search but wound up
running in circles. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Hi Guys,

Has anyone else received similar email from vendors after you evaluated
their software. I was somewhat surprised at the tone...especially the part
about avoiding further legal action. I evaluated the software on a test
network and removed it when I found it didn't fit what I was looking for. Is
it my imagination or are sales guys getting really pushy lately...sorry for
the OT post, just had to rant.

Jonathan

Our records show that you downloaded an evaluation copy of our software but
have not returned any of our inquiries. If Sophos is an anti virus package
that you wish to evaluate please contact me for an extension, if not please
remove the software from your systems immediately to avoid further legal

Exchange 2000 SP3 - Doesn't remove Post-SP2 Security Hotfix

2002-08-01 Thread Patrick Baird

I installed Windows 2000 SP3, then Exchange 2000 SP3 on our 'test'
production box (it's a desktop configured equal to our production
server)

It had the following to Post-SP2 hotfixes on it:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q320436
(Malformed Mail Attack)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q316056
(Admin Tool Fixes)

When I installed SP3 for Exchange, it left both in add/remove.

Looking at the Exchange SP3 fix list, Q320436 is there as included.
Q316056 is not, and its Q articles still says Post-SP2.

An Example file from Q320436
29-Apr-2002 15:04 6.0.5770.91676,352
%EXSRVROOT%\Bin\Davex.dll
--After SP3 Install
18-Jun-2002 10:17 6.0.6249.0 660,000
%EXSRVROOT%\Bin\Davex.dll

An Example file from Q315056
Mad.exe 6.0.5770.21
--After SP3 Install
Mad.exe 6.0.6249.0

So, 2 questions:

1. Is Q315056 included in SP3 even though the include list doesn't have
it.
2. Should I remove them both through add/remove or will this cause
issues?

Thanks All!

RE: Outlook profiles in Windows 2000

2002-08-01 Thread Snook, Kevin S (ITD)

Outlook Profiles are stored on a per user basis so what one user sees in
terms of profiles will be different to the next user. You will need to add
your list of profiles whilst logged on as that user. Best way to do this is
to use a logon script to do it for you and run a command line profile
generator (Profgen.exe from MS or createprf.exe at www.mailsoftware.co.uk
will do it) Make sure you don't specify any profile as a default and then
every time Outlook starts you will get asked which profile you wish to use!

Subject: Outlook profiles in Windows 2000

I'm building some Windows 2000 machines for a remote office. All Windows
profiles are stored locally. I'm trying to set up Outlook 2K so that
whenever a user logs on, they will be presented with the choice of Outlook
profiles when they launch Outlook. As Admin I can set this up within Outlook
but if another user logs on, Outlook prompts them to create a mailbox and
does not display the profile list I created. Tried MS search but wound up
running in circles. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Funny, Kevin. The problem was that there was completely insufficient
info. Also, I hadn't arrived at work yet and William Lefkovics is still
asleep probably.

Outlook profile? Office Resource Kit tools, depending on the version.
Windows XP? Simple. Use the new User Settings Migration Wizard.
Migrate from Win9x to something else, blowing the workstation away and
temporarily putting it into their network home directory, in a
subdirectory called \migrate:

How we do it here? Run this batch script, after telling your users to
dump everything they care about in My Documents and clean their
cookies, history, and cache. Modify it because nobody but us has to
deal with every friggin version of WordPerfect ever written:

Make a text file called PST_UPLD.TXT and pipe it into an FTP command
line. Schedule it with AT or task scheduler or whatever. Note that
most of your better FTP clients can also be scripted - I think we're
using um... WSFTP-LE or something now.

PST_UPLD.BAT
:: One-line batch file
:: Schedule it with AT or whatever
:: Pipes a file called pst_upld.txt containing the commands.
FTP -s:pst_upld.txt

PST_UPLD.TXT
open 123.123.123.123 ;ip address or fqdn of your ftp server
username ;ftp username or guest or whatnot
password ;ftp password or [EMAIL PROTECTED] or whatnot
lcd c:\path\other-path ;path to the directory your PST is in
cd public/psts/username;wherever you want to put your PST
hash ; turn on hashmarks if you want. I like watching
the pretty #s go past
bin ; set type to BINARY
prompt ; turn interactive mode OFF
put filename.pst ; upload a file called filename.pst located in
LCD command's path
quit

Upgrade to Exchange 2K.

2002-08-01 Thread Mike Newell

Hello,
I am about to upgrade to Exchange 2K from 5.5 and I have a question. The new
AD domain name does not match the Exchange Domain name. Will this cause any
problems with systems that do a reverse lookup when it receives mail?

Thanks in advance.
Mike.

PS If there's anything else I need to look out for in the upgrade process or
any advice I'd appreciate it.

RE: Upgrade to Exchange 2K.

2002-08-01 Thread Tom Meunier

Yes, it will cause problems. That's why you have the setting in the
advanced tab of your SMTP virtual server's property pages that says
FQDN. It gives you a chance to put in your publically-announced FQDN
which is different from your private namespace.

All that other stuff - yeah, there's tons. Gotta read the migration
papers at www.microsoft.com/exchange. Too much to cover here.

RE: Exchange 2000 SP3 - Doesn't remove Post-SP2 Security Hotfix

2002-08-01 Thread Rob Wilcox

Do you mean Q316056 ? The changes in that are going to be in SP3, as
there are later builds of system attendant.

Q320436 towards the bottom of the article it says that it is first fixed
in SP 3.

As post-sp2 fixes are developed there comes a point of cut off whereby
the post-sp2 fixes continue for a little while, but those changes aren't
applied to SP3, as that code becomes frozen. So there will be a
post-sp2 hotfix for something, and also a post-sp3 hot fix for it as
well.

I would say since there are later builds of system attendant referenced
in q articles on microsoft.com, that you have those in SP 3.

With regards to removing them from add/remove programs.. Hmm not sure.
I certainly wouldn't do it on a production machine !

Thanks

Subject: Exchange 2000 SP3 - Doesn't remove Post-SP2 Security Hotfix

I installed Windows 2000 SP3, then Exchange 2000 SP3 on our 'test'
production box (it's a desktop configured equal to our production
server)

It had the following to Post-SP2 hotfixes on it:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q320436
(Malformed Mail Attack)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q316056
(Admin Tool Fixes)

When I installed SP3 for Exchange, it left both in add/remove.

Looking at the Exchange SP3 fix list, Q320436 is there as included.
Q316056 is not, and its Q articles still says Post-SP2.

An Example file from Q320436
29-Apr-2002 15:04 6.0.5770.91676,352
%EXSRVROOT%\Bin\Davex.dll
--After SP3 Install
18-Jun-2002 10:17 6.0.6249.0 660,000
%EXSRVROOT%\Bin\Davex.dll

An Example file from Q315056
Mad.exe 6.0.5770.21
--After SP3 Install
Mad.exe 6.0.6249.0

So, 2 questions:

1. Is Q315056 included in SP3 even though the include list doesn't have
it. 2. Should I remove them both through add/remove or will this cause
issues?

Thanks All!

from reading some of the articles on sp3 I have gleaned that if sp3 says
it's going to change files associated with a particular hotfix you must
reinstall the hotfix after sp3. somebody stop me if I'm wrong. I'm going
to do a little more research before jumping in with both feet. most of my
clients only have production machines so I don't have the luxury of testing

 Security Hotfix

Do you mean Q316056 ? The changes in that are going to be in SP3, as
there are later builds of system attendant.

Q320436 towards the bottom of the article it says that it is
 first fixed
 in SP 3.

As post-sp2 fixes are developed there comes a point of cut off whereby

the post-sp2 fixes continue for a little while, but those changes
aren't applied to SP3, as that code becomes frozen. So there will be
a post-sp2 hotfix for something, and also a post-sp3 hot fix for it as
 well.

I would say since there are later builds of system attendant
 referenced
in q articles on microsoft.com, that you have those in SP 3.

With regards to removing them from add/remove programs.. Hmm not sure.

I certainly wouldn't do it on a production machine !

 Thanks

 I installed Windows 2000 SP3, then Exchange 2000 SP3 on our 'test'
production box (it's a desktop configured equal to our production
 server)

It had the following to Post-SP2 hotfixes on it:
   http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q320436
 (Malformed Mail Attack)
   http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q316056
 (Admin Tool Fixes)

When I installed SP3 for Exchange, it left both in add/remove.

Looking at the Exchange SP3 fix list, Q320436 is there as included.
Q316056 is not, and its Q articles still says Post-SP2.

 An Example file from Q320436
   29-Apr-2002 15:04 6.0.5770.91676,352
 %EXSRVROOT%\Bin\Davex.dll
 --After SP3 Install
   18-Jun-2002 10:17 6.0.6249.0 660,000
 %EXSRVROOT%\Bin\Davex.dll

 An Example file from Q315056
   Mad.exe 6.0.5770.21
 --After SP3 Install
   Mad.exe 6.0.6249.0

 So, 2 questions:

 1. Is Q315056 included in SP3 even though the include list
 doesn't have
it. 2. Should I remove them both through add/remove or will this cause

Trend eManager

2002-08-01 Thread Robert Mezzone

Over the past couple
of months I've noticed in the eManager log files on my Exchange 5.5 box, that
about every 2 weeks or so there are no events recorded for a particular day.
This seems to have started after Trendbegan releasing daily rule file
updates, in the past they seemed to release updates once a week. Has anyone else
noticed this, I wonder if they occasionally releaseupdates that do not
catch any spam. Just curious if I'm the only one experiencing
this.

Alias Names

2002-08-01 Thread Ken Leyba

Exchange 5.5 SP4/Win2K SP2

When creating users with similar names e.g. David Li and Daniel Linden with
usernames dli and dlinden Exchange and OWA cannot determine the difference.
When setting up Outlook2K for dli and then having it verify the mailbox it
will ask which account and give David Li and Daniel Linden as choices. When
trying to login via OWA it won't get to the users mailbox.

The alias names should be unique enough and the only workaround is to change
the aliases. Is there any setting that I may have wrong or is this the way
it is?

TIA,

This is normal. It doesn't know that Dli is complete.

What happens when you try?
Are you starting with the URL

Ken,
I'm afraid that's just the way it is (AFAIK).

You can use the full smtp address when logging into OWA to access the
mailbox (i.e. [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of dlinden). That should
work around the OWA problem.

When setting up Outlook2K for dli and then having it verify

will ask which account and give David Li and Daniel Linden as
 choices. When
trying to login via OWA it won't get to the users mailbox.

The alias names should be unique enough and the only
 workaround is to change
the aliases. Is there any setting that I may have wrong or
 is this the way
 it is?

Initial login page on OWA (first screen you get).
The box that pops up next is for your standard NT credentials.

OK I give, where do I put the e-mail address on the login page or the dialog
box that comes up? I can't seem to login to OWA this way. Or does this
work for Exchange 2000, remember I'm on Exchange 5.5.

E2K
not going. Still waiting for new server... AD

The
last two weeks I've been dealing with a production database array that is going
south quickly, that kept bringing down the database.that makes users very
unhappy. Unfortunately, I've the misfortune of having DataGeneral now EMC
database application servers connected to this DG array. They
weren'treal cooperative with getting it fixed, in fact it was down for
almost 10 days before they finally got it back up. Three drives out of 40
that were possibly going bad.they don't know for sure, spent more than a
couple of long nights with the wonderful engineers..

Last
weekend, I took my file print servers from Windows NT4.0 to Windows 2K
advanced server with a new drive array, now my Backup Exec tells me that it's
not licensed to backup Advanced Server, bought the upgrade for BE 8.6 Advanced
Server, it still tells me the same thing about not being licensed to backup
Advanced Server.

Sigh.I think I need to take a vacationthanks

We have seen a new problem here since switching
to Exchange 2000 (sp2). I've had at least 3 people recently who can't
delete anything from their mailbox after they exceed their mailbox
limit. It gives them an error that the item was either already deleted
or moved. But then if you do a shift-delete, you can delete the
items. This was not the case on Exchange 5.5. Is there a setting
somewhere I need to tweak? We have deleted item retention turned on

Restore of Data Drive

2002-08-01 Thread Jean Paul Reece

Our Exchange 2000 server had a power failure. The
hardware configuration is as follows:
C Drive - Win2000 O/S - RAID 0 - Exchange logs
D Drive - RAID 5 - Exchange Store

The D Drive (RAID 5) partition is damaged and requires
a rebuild. I have performed several recovery
procedures for Exchange but always with either the
entire server and partitions availble or an entire
wipe and reinstall of the the os and exchange in DR
mode. I want to know if after I create the partition
on D - if I can just restore the entire D from last
nights tape and be back online. Or do I have to
perform an entire Exchange reinstall in DR mode again

RE: Restore of Data Drive

2002-08-01 Thread Purviance, Chad

First, you shouldn't loose the Volume if you lost a Raid 5 set.

Second, yes. If you have lost the Database, this is an IS DR situation and
if the Directory was there too ... then you are restoring the entire server
BUT it should play your logs back so you shouldn't loose anything Assuming
you did a hot backup with NTBACKUP or an Agent.

Arcseve agent. But I am interested in only restoring
the data partition and not the C - O/S.

Our Exchange 2000 server had a power failure. The
 hardware configuration is as follows:
 C Drive - Win2000 O/S - RAID 0 - Exchange logs
 D Drive - RAID 5 - Exchange Store

The D Drive (RAID 5) partition is damaged and
 requires
a rebuild. I have performed several recovery
procedures for Exchange but always with either the
entire server and partitions availble or an entire
wipe and reinstall of the the os and exchange in DR
mode. I want to know if after I create the
 partition
on D - if I can just restore the entire D from last
nights tape and be back online. Or do I have to
perform an entire Exchange reinstall in DR mode
 again

E2K

Sigh.I think I need to take a vacationthanks
for letting me vent a little.

If you pull a bonehead move and
delete a user account and you need to reconnect a mailbox, how do you speed
Exchange up so that you can reconnect to the mailbox? In other words, I
wasn't paying attention and deleted a user account, and now I need to
reconnect the mailbox pronto but the mailbox isn't showing up in the ESM

We have seen a new problem here since switching
to Exchange 2000 (sp2). I've had at least 3 people recently who
can't delete anything from their mailbox after they exceed their mailbox
limit. It gives them an error that the item was either already
deleted or moved. But then if you do a shift-delete, you can delete
the items. This was not the case on Exchange 5.5. Is there a
setting somewhere I need to tweak? We have deleted item retention
turned on for 30 days and a 100MB limit. List Charter

RE: Migrating user desktop settings across a domain.

2002-08-01 Thread Benjamin Zachary

CuteFTP pro can do a one way mirror with another site. You can make it a
service so it runs at bootup. The one way synch will check the file
local with the file remote and upload it if the size/timestamp doesn't
match. Or you could just say upload every night at XX, but you have to
delete the old one 1st

Make a text file called PST_UPLD.TXT and pipe it into an FTP command
line. Schedule it with AT or task scheduler or whatever. Note that
most of your better FTP clients can also be scripted - I think we're
using um... WSFTP-LE or something now.

PST_UPLD.BAT
:: One-line batch file
:: Schedule it with AT or whatever
:: Pipes a file called pst_upld.txt containing the commands. FTP
-s:pst_upld.txt

PST_UPLD.TXT
open 123.123.123.123 ;ip address or fqdn of your ftp server
username ;ftp username or guest or whatnot
password ;ftp password or [EMAIL PROTECTED] or whatnot
lcd c:\path\other-path ;path to the directory your PST is in
cd public/psts/username;wherever you want to put your PST
hash ; turn on hashmarks if you want. I like watching
the pretty #s go past
bin ; set type to BINARY
prompt ; turn interactive mode OFF
put filename.pst ; upload a file called filename.pst located in
LCD command's path
quit

BTW (still OT) have you some script like that one that can
run a ftp upload, my users all have pst's (50 Mb Exch mailbox
