RE: Exchange 20007/2010 voice mail with multiple extension

2010-02-17 Thread Senter, John
We are keeping Cisco Call Manager for the primary call routing. We have call
centers and need to do things that OCS cannot do. We are looking at replacing
Unity Voice Mail with Exchange since the functionality is there and it would
keep us from having to integrate the Unity system into our primary Exchange
environment. The business is wanting the single mailbox but as a admin I do
not want the telecom group to have the elevate rights that Unity requires. We
are also looking at integrating OCS with the phone system but most likely in a
split trunk because we will keep hard phones on each desk.

resources.

To the original poster, does this question mean that you are looking at
replacing Unity with OCS 2007 R2? Please forgive me if that's a ridiculous
question. I'm coming to the whole UC/UM arena from a place of complete
ignorance.

2010-02-17 Thread Michael B. Smith
Norstar, at least some models, apparently supports something called T1/E1 QSIQ
which allows for EUM integration. Most people since the release of OCS 2007 R2
are using SIP trunking.

Sorry. Exchange UM is no longer my area of expertise. :( (I used to be a Unity
expert, long ago and far away.)

The Exchange upgrade path is certainly doable and can be planned for UM/OCS at
later date. That I can say with certainty.

Thank you. That helps put things into the appropriate boxes, which is
unfortunately the rudimentary knowledge level at which I find myself right now.

I've uncovered innumerable references to Dialogics and Audiocodes media
gateways, but I didn't know how to interpret the results. Our (very old, but
going strong) Norstar system may, or may not, have a compatible gateway product
that would allow us to leverage it -just a little bit longer-... (Boy,
would it be nice if one exists...)

My ideal upgrade path for our ~100 user environment (subject to much amendment
/ correction / improvement) is to migrate from on-premise Exchange 2003 (single
server) to on-premise Exchange 2010 Standard with Enterprise CALs on Server
2008 R2 Enterprise (two servers with fully redundant roles). Server Enterprise
would be deployed to take advantage of mailbox resiliency, and Enteprise CALs
to immediately utilize archiving, custom retention, and delegated multi-mailbox
search. Down the line I would like to add UM, but that is almost certainly a
phase 2 project because of the likely cost involved in ripping out and
replacing the Norstar. If a Norstar-compatible gateway happens to exist, that
might allow us to add UM on the front end.

As always, comments, and corrections (and even the occasional humiliation) are
always appreciated.

The question is what gateways work with Exchange. I'd have to hunt it down,

In general, anything that talks TCP SIP should work.

Exchange UM is more-or-less equivalent in concept to Unity - that is, Unified
Messaging (Unity and its various add-ons are far more mature in feature set -
but the average business user wouldn't notice).

OCS 2007 R2 is more-or-less equivalent in concept to CallManager - that is, a
software-based PBX. In terms of PBX functionality, CallManager wins,
hands-down. In terms of other functionality - IM, presence, Office integration,
whiteboarding, screen sharing; OCS 2007 R2 wins, hands-down.

Transport Rule to Block Send/Receive of External Mail

2010-02-17 Thread Bonnie Pohlschneider
I have a situation where management has requested a user be setup with a
mailbox that is prohibited from sending or receiving mail outside of our
company. I’ve created two different transport rules as follows. Environment:
Exchange 2007 SP1 RU7

Block Receiving External
Apply rule to messages
from users Outside the organization
   and sent to useraddress
send Delivery not authorized, message refused to sender with 5.7.1

Block Sending External
Apply rule to messages
from useraddress
and sent to users Outside the organization
send Delivery not authorized, message refused to sender with 5.7.1

This setup works great except for when our Help Desk tracking system sends
automated messages based on ticket creation, updates, and closures. Even though
the tracking system is “inside” the organization, and the emails always appear
to be coming from *...@ourdomain.com, the automated messages are being bounced
back. I know that I need to use the exceptions portion of the rule to try to
allow these through but am hitting a wall. The tricky part to this is that the
From, Subject, and Body fields are never consistent so many of the exceptions
in the rules are not working. Thoughts? Suggestions? Can I create an exception
based off IP address of the Help Desk server? If so, how to I add that to my
transport rules?

E-mails to junk folder

2010-02-17 Thread Miller Bonnie L .
All of a sudden in the last day or two, many of our internally addressed
messages are going to the Outlook 2007 (non-cached mode) junk folders for
different mailboxes. For example, automated messages from
a...@mukilteo.wednet.edumailto:a...@mukilteo.wednet.edu end up in junk for
some users. So far, all of the messages are ones that come from other servers
in the domain that are not the actual Exchange server, but are added as servers
that are authenticated or allowed to relay (by IP address) on one of two
receive connectors. Back end is E2k7 SP1 RU9 all roles with latest security
patches from last week.

I don't know much about how the junk mechanisms work and am just starting to
dig, but if anyone has seen this or knows right where to go looking I'd
appreciate it. I've checked our external IP for blacklisting and am not
finding it turn up anywhere that I can see.

Thanks,
Bonnie

RE: E-mails to junk folder

2010-02-17 Thread Miller Bonnie L .
And if I'm reading correctly, Outlook 2007 should not be using the junk folders
in online mode-is that correct? We've been non-cached mode for a long time,
and I've verified that has not changed on many of the accounts where this is
happening.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178957.aspx (Supported Account
types section)

Does not supported actually mean it doesn't work, or you shouldn't do it? In
other words, something could be turning on our junk filter settings (like a
group policy) and it's suddenly trying to work, but really just isn't supported?

If I look at my junk filter settings (it has happened to my account as well) it
shows low. Right before I get to the screen to view the settings (actions,
junk e-mail, junk e-mail options), I get a warning about the filter not being
available because I'm working online.

RE: E-mails to junk folder

2010-02-17 Thread Miller Bonnie L .
Thanks Michael-so, do you know where exactly I might find that in EMC? I've
looked all over the hub transport options (again, single server all roles SP1
RU9) and am just not finding it. No Exchange edge server-we have a barracuda
spam firewall on the outside.

For example, I see a screenshot here of the configuration, but I can't find
this screen anywhere.
http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2007/02/exchange-2007-content-filter-how-to_07.html

If I run get-organizationconfig I can see the SCLJunkThreshold value is set
to 4.

Get-contentfilterconfig shows the DN of the object to be under Transport
Settings, but I only have two tabs in the properties of Transport settings
under \Organization Configuration\Hub Transport. I'm SUPPOSED to be logged on
with an admin with all of the correct rights, but I'm starting to wonder if
there is a permission out of whack somewhere.

Number of databases for exchange 2010 standard with dag

2010-02-17 Thread Ehren Benson
Hi,

First off, I want to let you know I found this
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/2010/en/us/Licensing.aspx and understand
everything there, that Exchange 2010 standard can host 1-5 databases. What I
wonder is this.

If we are using dag with 2 servers can we still have only 5 databases in the
organization so that there is no chance of more than 5 being mounted on any one
database server at any given time?

Or is it possible to have more if you have two database servers. Say for
example a total of 10 databases where each server has 5 mounted and 5 copies
(copies of the 5 that are mounted on the other server). And if that were the
case, and one server were to fail, would all 10 be able to mount on one server?
Something inside me is telling me this wouldn't work.

Also one other quick thing. In our Exchange 2007 organization we have a public
folder database but we do not really use public folders at all. Once everyones
mailboxes are migrated to 2010 can we just abandon that or do we need to
migrate/copy something out of it into the 2010 org?

Thanks so much!

RE: Number of databases for exchange 2010 standard with dag

2010-02-17 Thread Michael B. Smith
An Exchange Standard server can host 5 databases. Period.

An instance of a DAG is a database. It is mounted - it may not be active, but
it is mounted.

A standalone mailbox database is a database.

A PF database is a database.

You can have 5 of the above on a standard server, in (almost) any combination.

If you have more than two standard mailbox servers, yes you can have more than
5 databases, but still only 5 per server.

If everyone in your Exchange 2007 organization is using Outlook 2007, you can
go ahead and get rid of your PF database(s) now, as long as you are web
publishing the OAB.

Set the organizationConfig for SCLJunkThreshold to 8. :)

Those tabs only show up in the EMC if you've run install-AntispamAgents.ps1 in

Thanks Michael-so, do you know where exactly I might find that in EMC? I've

Get-contentfilterconfig shows the DN of the object to be under Transport
Settings, but I only have two tabs in the properties of Transport settings
under \Organization Configuration\Hub Transport. I'm SUPPOSED to be logged on

Mobile Device Policy

2010-02-17 Thread Sherry Abercrombie
Anyone have any examples of their corporate policy regarding the use of
personal mobile devices and what will happen to it when they leave the
company.

We've had a plethora of personal mobile devices connecting to Exchange,
mostly iPhones, and most are owned by the individual, only a few are company
devices. I tried to not allow it, but management overruled me. My concern
is when a person is terminated by either voluntary, or otherwise, means, I
want to wipe the device. I know that I need a policy in place stating that
to cover the legalities of taking such action. So if anyone has such a
policy written, and would be willing to share the verbiage it would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

OWA showing Webpage cannot be found externally but works internally

2010-02-17 Thread Don Kuhlman
Just wondering if anyone has seen this or has any ideas.
We have an SBS 2003 not R2 server.
I just did the update to fix the premium access for users coming in through owa.
We receive a message from an external vendor with a link embedded in it.
It works in the full Outlook client and in OWA from within the core network.
If you try to bring up OWA from outside the firewall, premium or basic mode
client, when you click the email, it's throwing the Webpage cannot be found
with a 404.

If you manually type in the link and send it in a new email, it works fine.
Is there some filtering or parms that are stopping this from working through
the firewall or outside the core network in OWA?

Thanks

Don K
