Attachment not visible

2010-05-03 Thread Liby Philip Mathew
Hi
In my E2K7 SP2, I am facing an issue with attachments.
I cannot see the attachments in Outlook 2003 or 2007. But If I use OWA I am
able to see, save etc.
How can I get the attachment visible in Outlook. This happens to mail coming
from 1 external client only. All others are working good.
Any thoughts much appreciated.

If you open Outlook in safe mode, can you see the attachment? What happens if
you click Forward, do you see the attachment then?

Have you tried (with Outlook closed) to delete the following files:

outcmd.dat
extend.dat
frmcache.dat
views.dat

Then open Outlook again to see if the issue has resolved?

Why not have the installer check for a running Outlook and prompt to
close, etc...

If it's a silent install, you could have the installer return a code and
log all the stations that have a running outlook and deal with them later.

At worst, just system(tskill outlook.exe); before doing the delete :)

I'm looking at Red Gate, but the Symatec/Veritas Enterprise Vault some some

There's GFI as well though that always seems like it's on the small side of the

Archiving Calendar Items

2010-05-03 Thread Andrew Greene
Happy Monday to all!

I came in to what I thought was a bit of an odd request - we're running
Exchange 2003 SP2 and run GFI MailArchiver as our message archiving
solution. Today I was asked about recovering calendar items from 2008
for a single user. I know that you can archive the calendar from the
Outlook level, but even if you auto-archive every day it still creates
an imperfect record that can be modified by a user prior to archiving.
Any thoughts?

The more I stew on it the more I realize that this is the craziest damn
request I think I've ever received and it's getting under my skin more
than a little bit.

We've been preparing for a transition from Exchange 2003 to Exchange
2010. We've done various test installs in our lab and thought we had
everything figured out. Unfortunately we're having mail delivery
problems after completing the install. The actual installation went
without problems. We have a shared address space, with some users on our
Exchange server and some on a Unix host. The biggest issue we're having
is sending to users who are not on our Exchange server. We've set the
Accepted Domains for "acadiau.ca" to Internal Relay, but when we try to
send to usern...@acadiau.ca that does not exist in the Exchange name
space, the message bounces (it never makes it to our Unix smart host).
We've compared things with our test servers and everything looks
correct. At this point we've very confused what we're doing wrong. If
anyone has a suggestion what to look for we really appreciate it.

That might be it. I had sort of wanted to keep Exchange 2010 out of the
picture after this first phase since all the mail boxes are still on
Exchange 2003. I want to get backups, certificates, and other misc stuff
working on Exchange 2010 before moving mailboxes.

One weird problem that has surfaced since the 2010 install is a problem
with Public folders. When I try to look at the folder in System Manager
on Exch2003, I get the error

"The HTTP service used by Public Folders is not available, possible
causes are that Public stores are not mounted and the Information Store
service is not running."

I'm getting lots of google hits for this error but none specifically
relating to an Exchange 2010 upgrade. The folders show up fine in
Outlook, but not in OWA or System Manager. This issue did not come up in
our test lab.

That would tend to indicate that the mail is being routed through the
Exchange 2003 server and you don't have a properly scoped

Actually Sunbelt Exchange Archiver does support 2010, except for full support

I'm looking at Red Gate, but the Symatec/Veritas Enterprise Vault some some
good features too.

There's GFI as well though that always seems like it's on the small side of the

Any others that you have used ?

everything I can find on the topic before tackling the certificate

You need to export it from your current server first, with the private key. It
will give you a PFX file you can import into the new server. Whenever I get a

Basically you have to click Server Config -> Server Name (if more than one) ->

If it's not there, then someone has deleted it for you.

Re: Online Address Book

2010-05-03 Thread James Kerr
Wow, I finally got to look into this, that is a painful procedure to go through
to make an address book available to one user from his mobile phone but he
happens to be the executive director and wants access to all employees phone
numbers (including home #s) from his phone. Sigh.

You can do this with address list segregation on Exchange 2003 and 2007.
(There is a white paper on Microsoft.com that discusses it. Google for it.)

While it works under SOME BUT NOT ALL circumstances in Exchange 2010, it's
currently not a supported scenario.

I need to setup an address book that is available to users with phones
running WinMobile. I want the address book to only be available to certain
users using Outlook and certain users running WinMobile with ActiveSync. I dont
know how to go about this but I know there has to be a way. Any pointers?

You have to create a new request. However, you SHOULD find that most of the
data is pre-filled. I just tested it and most of the data was pre-filled for me.

Hello all -

We just got a SAN DigCert request back, and I'm trying to import it into our
2010 CAS server. Problem is - there's no "Complete Pending Request" wizard on
the Server Configuration / Exchange certificates tab Actions Pane.

Anybody have any suggestions about how to import this .CRT file? Do I just use
Import-ExchangeCertificate? I'm not real positive I understand the -FileData

Sorry about my lack of DigCert knowledge. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

I'm getting conflicting information...

2010-05-03 Thread Reimer, Mark
We are moving from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. We have one physical
server running Exchange 2003, and I was planning on one physical,
dedicated (i.e. nothing virtual) server for Exchange 2010.

I've heard a report that I can put all "parts" of Exchange 2010 on a
physical box except Transport Server. It wants/needs to be on a separate
box.

Can somebody give me guidance?

We have only about 350 hundred users, and many of these use OWA, and
only occasionally. We have about 100 that use Outlook, and most don't do
a lot of emailing. All this to say, there isn't a whole lot of email
traffic that the server would have to actively, concurrently handle.

Thanks in advance.

Installed Office 2010 today after a clean uninstall of O2k7. After a

Have you accounted for the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, which seems
to be an underlying equation in all major upgrades?

I would just create a new profile and see what the OST ends up on. If

RE: OST Size - and Outlook 2010

2010-05-03 Thread greg.sweers
A more constructive answer :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179067(office.14).aspx

"Offline folder (.ost file) recommendations: When you deploy Cached
Exchange Mode for Outlook, be aware that users' local .ost files can
increase 50 percent to 80 percent over the size of the mailbox reported
in Exchange Server. The format Outlook uses to store data locally for
Cached Exchange Mode is less space-efficient than the server data file
format. This results in the use of more disk space when mailboxes are
downloaded to provide a local copy for Cached Exchange Mode.

When Cached Exchange Mode first creates a local copy of a user's
mailbox, the user's current .ost file, if one exists, is updated. If
users currently have non-Unicode ANSI-formatted .ost files, we recommend
that you upgrade their .ost files to Unicode. Non-Unicode (ANSI) Outlook
files have a limit of 2 gigabytes (GB) of data storage. The maximum size
for Unicode .ost files is configurable, with the default being 50 GB of
data storage."

You may also try to do a compress on the OST file to see if you reclaim
the space.

I am doing my 2010 upgrade sometime next week. My OST is about 6 gig
right now, so I am curious as well.
