What is the actual description Vipre uses for this size limit feature?
Surely they should mean message size like everyone else and if they

Re: Slightly OT: Vipre for Email

Kinda funny that this came up yesterday and today as I'm working on parsing
XML data from a public database. My choices are using a poorly formated
text dump or an XML dump. The XML dump is 7 times the size of the text
output. If they had bothered to add delimiters to the text dump I would be
done by now, instead I'm dealing with learning more than I care too about
complex XML schemas and how to work with xml data in SQL 2005 ;-)

On the plus side I enjoy learning new things. The downside is that MSDN
articles almost always:

a) give examples that have nothing to do with what you are working on
b) leave out some critical piece of information in any example that does
pertain to what you are working on

The old .DOC, .XLS, etc., formats generally compressed very well,

Tech Support (which in my opinion rocks!) helped me to determine that the
actual file size was 54mbs..therefore being bounced.

Who'd a thunk it.

Re: Slightly OT: Vipre for Email

2010-10-20 Thread Kurt Buff
Yep.

Knew that.

My Maia Mailguard installation caused a similar problem long ago - it
was quarantining the files because the filetype was zip, even though
the file extension was [doc|ppt|xls]x.

And I'm extremely unhappy about that, because now I've had to let the
filetype of zip through, which is just wrong...

RE: Vipre for Exchange - Questions

2010-08-29 Thread Paul Hutchings
Hmm.. just doing some testing moving messages between mailbox/archives
and with either of the vipre scanning engines enabled things are very
slow and the CPU on the Exchange box is working very hard.

Our Exchange box is a VM on ESX so has a single vCPU - can't see that
should be a huge issue given the server is a quad core Xeon that isn't
especially busy.

I'm toying with whether to move all our a/v scanning to the edge anyway
but I would be interested to hear from anyone else if they're seeing
anything similar.

Thanks Jeff. We have our Exchange box behind a DMZ relay so anything we
accept in Exchange is only checked by Cloudmark. I did find that within
2 minutes of enabling the mail-filters.com engine that one of the
discussions on the ntsysadmin list was flagged as spam hence my concern
and the question.

Negative. Sunbelt and BitDefender have parted ways, Sunbelt has replaced the
Bit A/V engine with their own and the upgrade is doing just that.

RE: ninja to vipre

2009-08-25 Thread Eldridge, Dave
Here is the email that was sent out earlier today regarding the update
to Ninja as it will now be called VIPRE Email Security:

Product Notification: Ninja Email Security to VIPRE Email Security for
Exchange Upgrade

Date: August 24, 2009

Product: Ninja Email Security

Version: All 2003 and 2007 Ninja versions

Current versions of Ninja Email Security have supported two antivirus
(AV) engines from third-party vendors: BitDefender and Authentium. Our
relationship with one of these vendors, BitDefender, has come to an end.
As a result, we cannot guarantee definition updates from BitDefender
after the end of August. To address this issue, we have been working to
integrate the VIPRE AV engine and will be releasing an updated product
by the end of the month. In addition, the product is being renamed to
VIPRE Email Security for Exchange.

For those customers that are running the BitDefender AV engine, the
upgrade process will make the necessary changes to replace the
BitDefender engine with the VIPRE engine components. Note that the
Authentium engine is not affected by this change and will continue to
function correctly; there are no plans to remove the Authentium engine
at this time.

The release is currently available for download through Product Updates
http://updates.sunbeltsoftware.com/ . For continued AV protection, it
is important that all customers upgrade to this latest release. If you
have any questions, please contact Technical Support at (877) 673-1153

If you
have any questions, please contact Technical Support at (877) 673-1153
or by email at supp...@sunbelt-software.com

RE: VIPRE

2009-06-05 Thread paul chinnery

I have it installed on a 150+ network. We were using C/spy so when Vipre came
out, we switched to it from TrendMicro. With the newer versions, it does have
a much lower impact. (However, deep scan can slow a pc down significantly so I
only run it late at night.)
I have had two issues though one of which has not been resolved (and I opened
it up in Februrary). One involved desktop scanning where our Admit clerks scan
a document into our hospital's information system (Meditech). I had to turn off
Act Pro when opening files because the latency introduced was unacceptable.
The other issue, which I understand is to be fixed with hotfix 5, was a d/l
from one server to a pc which is then uploaded. It really slowed down when Act
Pro was running.
We've had it for about a year and, honestly, I've had to defend my push to
Vipre more than I'd like. We have had a few pc's get badly infected by malware
which, I think, should have been caught by Vipre. OTOH, since we had no other
a/v, a/s installed on other pc's, it's hard to say whether a different product
could've handled it better.

I know this is a sunbelt list but I would like to hear some opinions of VIPRE
and how you compare it against other AV, anitmalware products. I currently use
TrendMicro and have no issues with it. It has caught most virus' that come
through and missed a few. I know VIPRE is cheaper and uses little processing
power when it runs. What i am trying to figure out is any downside to moving
over to it. I know when i used counterspy when it first came out we used to
run into problems where it would quarantine files it shouldn't have like
windows associated dll's or something like it. Has this changed? we sometime
deal with some development software and i don't want to get a bunch of calls if
the software is too aggressive after an
 update.

Hope that make sense. I appreciate any input you may have.

RE: VIPRE

2009-06-05 Thread Thomas Gonzalez
I have to say, we had Symantec enterprise, (freaking headaches for over
a year with the product) and after reading all the threads, we decided
to go with Vipre. Now we have Ninja in our environment, and really like
the way it has handled all the spam and rules we placed. So with Vipre I
was appalled as to how many of our systems had malware, we had other
products and I was under the impression they would catch the items, but
the Vipre (SEA) has caught all the items.

I just went live with the product yesterday, it was deployed out for
about a week so I can see the scan results. I was pleased to see the
information the product reported back from the agents. Once I select
enabled, I had the balloon notification and the staff (scarred for the
amount of malware on their systems) have informed me they are pleased
with protection.

Now, I do have two systems, that strangely are running extremely slow,
but I'm not sure if that has to do with the SEA being enabled yesterday.
I was a little tired to examine them. But I am going to work on them
this morning and I'm hoping it's not the SEA.

ease of management is what made us interested in Vipre.

software is too aggressive after an update.

Hope that make sense. I appreciate any input you may have.

VIPRE

2009-06-04 Thread David Baca
I know this is a sunbelt list but I would like to hear some opinions of VIPRE
and how you compare it against other AV, anitmalware products. I currently use
TrendMicro and have no issues with it. It has caught most virus' that come
through and missed a few. I know VIPRE is cheaper and uses little processing
power when it runs. What i am trying to figure out is any downside to moving
over to it. I know when i used counterspy when it first came out we used to
run into problems where it would quarantine files it shouldn't have like
windows associated dll's or something like it. Has this changed? we sometime
deal with some development software and i don't want to get a bunch of calls if
the software is too aggressive after an update.

Hope that make sense. I appreciate any input you may have.

David

RE: VIPRE

2009-06-04 Thread Roger Wright
I've had VIPRE Enterprise on my church's network for 6+ months without
issues. This was an upgrade from AVG Pro. It has already prevented
several malware infections from casual web browsing.

I've just switched from McAfee to VIPRE on my 180+ node network here
when my McAfee maintenance expired. It's catching stuff that McAfee
ignored, is MUCH easier to manage, and runs noticeably lighter (except
when scanning). I've had none of the issues others have experienced and
recommend it highly. One of the biggest advantages is Sunbelt's
superior US support.

RE: VIPRE

2009-06-04 Thread Steve Szabo
I've replaced Trend with it on two relatively small networks. I like it much
more than Trend. I would suggest that you run a couple of scans with it set
to do nothing, just to see what it will pickup. After that you can adjust it
to clean, quarantine, or delete based on the type of file it finds.

I think they could improve their approved program list. Both installs have a
long list of things that should have been on the list, but were not.

2008-08-06 Thread tgonzalez
So I was dispatched out to the field yesterday to resolve our Satellite
offices VoIP problems and I missed the presentation provided by Stu and
company.

Is the presentation located on the site for download? I looked around
and cannot find it.
