I am assumming that you hava a global document root of:

DocumentRoot "/var/www/html"

somewhere? And then there are the global permisions to deal with
indexes, cgi access etc etc.

Within the original vhost if required, but it al depends if the
permission in the global config restrict the permissions in the vhost.

Apache reads permission from the global root, if you have a restriction
in global root and then release it lower down the directory
structure..it will not play, unless you have allowoveride in the global
section.

[expert] Cant Delete File

2003-09-28 Thread me
Hello, I am hoping someone can give me some advice on how to delete a file.

Apparently the directory /usr/local/netscape/chrome/ got hosed and it shows up
as a 2.2gb file and not a directory any longer.

EXT3 file system, file system check shows no problem.

The file shows OWNER: 35327
and I can not create a user that starts with a number to delete it that way.

GROUP: 3277717500 (kde)
-10172497 (midnight commander) this may just be how shell and kde
  display the number (signed number??)

I added both of these groups and added root to both groups and I still cant do
anything with the file.

Any Suggestions??

Thank You
Jack

Possibly, but try it out. run the following as root:

rmmod ide-cd
rmmod ide-scsi
modprobe ide-scsi

and start k3b.

Had this problem as well myself a while back. Switched from a
Linksys to a D-Link. My problem came with the persistence of Hotplug in
that it kept loading the module for the linksys system, and refusing to
load the module for the d-link. I had to remove all mention of their
ever being a linksys card. Reboot the box (out of frustration more than
anything.) and then re-insert and things started to work. I've also
learned on Toshiba and compaq, that if you have wired + wireless,
configure the wireless first then insert the wired and configure it.
(so it's eth1) then whenever I use wireless I have to insert both cards,
so that the wired card gets detected as eth1 not eth0. This seems to
be a function of hardware not software as other boxes tend to divide by
slot not by how many are inserted. (Yes on my compaq if I remove the
first card I inserted the second card get switched from eth1 to eth0)

Advantage here. He has/had nothing configured. No legacy to destroy.

Sorry to interject, but I'll grasp on the opportunity: I just lost my previous
PCMCIA card (broke a pin, by stepping on the cable), which was a Xircom
Realport NIC+modem, and - obviously - decided to change it with a new one
(other type, though). ... tallking about frustration!!! I have tried two
different cards - so far: a Netgear FA511 and a Xircom XE2000. Both are
detected correctly, but none would work with DHCP anymore (the original one
did). And even under the scenario of having to manually change the IP
addresses between home and work (where is that multiple profile - promised
land thingy?!?), it works only if running first drakconf, changing everything
(IP, mask, gateway, DNS, etc.), NOT working - though - the first time, then
running # ifconfig eth0 with the parameters needed to setup the IP and
netmask, then running # route for the new default - and, at this stage, the
things still won't work - then again drakconf - after which - finally - the
network starts properly. Attempted between each of the above steps a "service
network restart", with the eth0 always failing ... and "NO" - it won't work
if I would just run ifconfig first, then drakconf: it seems to work only if:
changes in drakconf --> no go --> ifconfig eth0 and route --> no go --> again
drakconf --> finally! ...

... I know someone posted earlier in the month a series of (rightful) jokes
about W2K and networking setup ... I was laughing too much and I got punished
;) ... my MDK9.1 on a Toshiba 8100 is no different now - an ongoing exercise
in futility.

Nope, not that sorry, that's a KDE facility for configuring what
mounted/unmounted file devices like CD's and floppy's get displayed on the
desktop by KDED (which I have disabled anyway). I'm meaning when I turn on
my scanner, an icon for XSane pops up on the desktop linking directly to the
scanner device. I believe it has something to do with devfs and hotplug and
is something Mandrake configures in a script somewhere.

Thanks anyway.

John.

Look at how the kde menue calls it, then do an strace the same way from
the command line. For example from the command line I do mozilla but
the MDKKDE menu calls soundwrapper mozilla (or something like that.) so
if soundwrapper where bad or having trouble with mozilla it wouldn't
show when I run it from the command line.

It really was a last minute add to 9.1, experimental in nature. It's

Vatbier,

Don't use it myself but I did check. I'm running the latest from
Texstar here 3.1.3 and I'm not getting the same result. My version is
kdeadmin-3.1.3-1tex if it helps.

There sure is something screwy going on, this is a virgin install, with
nothing downloaded yet.
MCC s/w update seems to give FTP Access denied which ever mirror I try.

After running urpmiweb, which at least downloaded the headers, the only
site which downloads is the PLF sites, albeit with signature failures.
Using the MCC s/w add and selecting the update repository, I'm getting
signature block failures.

As a fresh install I need to update K3B and cdrecord, as there are big
probs with K3B 0.8.1, I also need to update the kernel to at least
2.4.21-0.25mdk so win4lin can be run.
I do have a redhat rpm for K3B0.9 but it dos'nt update the toolbars, so
if the worst happens I could update that way.

Is anyone else getting probs like this ?
2 different PC both with MDK 9.1 one is from powerpack the other is the
download version, and at the moment I cant update either..
TIA
Richard

[expert] Gnome Panel Segfaults

2003-09-28 Thread Brian Craft
I'm running Mandrake 9.2 (RC2 updated daily with Cooker), and somehow
managed to mess up Gnome Panel. When I click on the Gnome Menu button,
it segfaults and after a Segfault error message, it restarts. I was
able to create a new user account and everything works fine there. So
it must be a config. file in my home directory. Does anyone know which
one?

Any help would be appreciated.

[expert] ML9.1: SysV-Init Editor crashes with KUniqueApplication: DCOP communication error

2003-09-28 Thread vatbier
Mandrake Linux 9.1: KDE3.1:
kdeadmin-3.1-8mdk: ksysv An editor for System V startup schemes:
SysV-Init Editor

SysV-Init Editor crashes everytime when I want to start it up.
When I start it in Konsole i get this error message
ERROR: KUniqueApplication: DCOP communication error!
I remember having this problem also in ML8.2, but then some
day SysV-Init Editor in ML8.2 started working and still works
without problem in ML8.2.
But in ML9.1 the problem is persistent.
I searched with Google but have no solution found, this bug has
also been reported at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37123
but no solution yet.

In Mandrake Linux drakxservices is used to set the services,
but I liked the program SysV-Init Editor to compare the
different runlevels.

I know that for several months here in Toronto no one was receiving mail
from the Toronto LUG list. After many frustrating interactions with the
big ISP here, Sympatico, it turned out they were blocking all TLUG list
mail. I did not do the "interacting" myself, so I don't know the whole
story.

I would recommend at least checking with the ISP in question since it
seems at least contemporaneous with the problem at hand, could be just
coincidence, but you never know.

BTW, we never did get an answer as to why Sympatico was blocking the
TLUG mail.

Switch off the SATA device in the "bios", when you do not have any
drives on that device..

I had the same problem on a EPOX motherboard, till I disabled the device
in the bios.
