What is a "good FTP client"? Does it have to be a WIMP-type program? I find
ncftp to be pretty damn nice. But it doesn't use the mouse or have a fancy
graphical layout.

Doesn't gmc do FTP?

Well, what I really look for is something with Tree-based file-system view (long
filanes get to be a pain on text-based FTP), and a QUE functionality, wherby I can add
a ton of files from anywhere to a QUE, then transfer them. For small stuff I still
and probably always will just use the text-based ftp program. However, the industry
(their are people out there who are GUI only that might want to use a little linux)
still doesn't have a perfect GUI ftp client yet, although GFTP is 70% there, if not
90% there, all it really needs is a QUE functionality like Cute-FTP, and maybe a MP3
file search like Cute-FTP, and that would be 100% what the industry
needs

ncftp has tab completion of file names, which helps a lot. It also has
background get and put and continuation of a disupted transfer, both of
which are very nice.

Well I want a good file-manager intergraded with samba somthing like Corel
Linux file manager for KDE but it must have a ftp link on the tree view where
you can and ftp sites, and logins.

It alredy has NFS, windows network and local file system.

This is the only reason I use Corel for desktops and Mandrake for Servers.

This would be next to impossible due to the problems in
file locking between Fat/Fat32 and EXT2 FS. There are
currently kludges, but it's a good way to scramble your
DOS/Windows file system if you're not careful.

Sure they're common, but why the heck would you WANT to use
a WinModem? WinModems suck BIG time! I have one built-into
the motherboard of one of my computers and I've disabled it
completely because I couldn't get it to work. Same thing
with the "on-board" ethernet in the same system. It was a
piece of crap NIC.

I'm using gFTP now for some time. It has a nice GUI, you can
save your bookmarks, you can use it like a filemanager with two
windows (like mc) and you can mark a whole bunch of files for
D'l.
I use it to up/download my homepage stuff

It's part of Mandrake distro.

One reason for needing "winModem drivers for linux is that most hardware
distributors only provide WinModems for system builders like myself. If we want
an old fashioned (read good) modem it's a crap shoot as to where to get them
and then try to support them under warranty for the customer.
The majority of my customers don't want an external modem so that's out too..

Same for netscape, only self-compiled version runs.
There is also a LittleIgloo = free. Do not run on my machine

Hmm . . . well, selecting the options is there, but here's what I have
to do to build a kernel:

make xconfig
make dep
make
make modules
make modules_install
cd pcmcia*
make config
answer a bunch of questions
make install
cd ..
make bzlilo
lilo

Hmm . . . I must issue 10 seperate commands plus answer a series of
interactive questions, *after* I used the "GUI." Methinks a gui for the
gui is still called for!

Heck, I don't care if it's a GUI, but at least a standard shell script
for all that would be a vast improvement.
