Fresh (late 2017) overview of TM Movement's current status.. Posted interview, Raja Chancellor gives an insightful and inspiring overview of the Movement's current status: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=cUBFqTk2Ncg https://youtu.be/cUBFqTk2Ncg https://youtu.be/cUBFqTk2Ncg 62 minutes https://youtu.be/cUBFqTk2Ncg Flowchart shown below.. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com,wrote : The Super-Radiance Community paragraphs at the bottom of the memo are important ones that are now actively adding meditators in to policy description of the broader Fairfield, Vedic City and Jefferson County meditation community. As a change in course this particularly is a substantial one to notice. That is new and a new welcome thought. While the larger attempt at transparency is a frank signature element of the change; however, the definition of the Fairfield meditating community away from just the TM-sidha/yogic flying TSR Dome-going community to include [TM] meditators of the community as the Super-Radiance Community is the substantial change. Loaded down old super-tankers don't change course quickly. This is an attempt at a major change of direction even in Fairfield where there are so many old meditators of the TM movement and most who live as meditators in the meditating community without much of any relationship to the organization. I wish the corporate TM organization all good shipping through the chop of the narrows they are sailing through. -Buck in the Dome Pablum? No, actually this memo is a major and conscious policy change. Most you don't live in Fairfield or have nothing to do with meditating Fairfield. Possibly you are or were once practicing meditators. This particular memo as sent out is actually a really important change of direction. By policy initiative it is an attempt to organizationally soften, facilitate, re-gather and include meditators again by policy in to the interests of the TM movement. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for whatever reason left to founder the meditators and the meditating movement un-attended from late in the 1970's shifting his attention on programs for advanced meditators around yogic flying and the TM-Sidhis and monumental projects for creating Heaven on Earth. So it was and so it is; and, the meditating element of the movement crescendo-ed from those days and times of higher point. Now as part of a practical process of succession planning the re-inclusion of 'the meditator' is back in to a definition of our corporate communal policy as essential formative element. This is a huge strategic change in direction being brought about by some savvy old [retirement-aged] field teachers of TM as recognized necessity. The TM-teaching movement is once again being generally successful and this policy move is timely and strategically helpful towards unifying and supporting that larger regeneration of a meditating movement otherwise. It is a purposeful organizational realignment of priority and also significant to what is communal meditating and non-meditating Fairfield. -Buck in the Dome Rick Archer posts: Raja John Hagelin wrote: February 26, 2014 Dear Sidhas and Meditators of Fairfield, Maharishi Vedic City, and Jefferson County, Over the last couple of years we have been making some structural changes and, we hope, significant improvements in how our Super-Radiance community functions. It is all for the purpose of giving you a better experience of living here and doing program in our flying halls—deeper programs, more fun, more friendliness, better service, more transparency, inclusiveness, due process, and community spirit. I’d like to lay out for you how our Super-Radiance community is organized these days. I’ve also included a couple of organizational charts below so you can see how everything fits together. The Invincible America Assembly The Invincible America Assembly consists of every Sidha who has a dome badge and attends group program. You don’t need to be rounding to be on the Invincible America Assembly—although rounding is an extraordinary experience in our special dome atmosphere. The Invincible America Solutions Group The Invincible America Solutions Group, which we established in 2011, is the umbrella committee which brings together all the committees and groups involved in supporting our Super-Radiance community and the Invincible America Assembly. As Raja, I preside at its meetings, and Dr. Dennis Rowe, our National Director of Education, is its chair. Dr. Doug Birx, our treasured TM-Sidhi® Program Administrator, is always present. The Solutions Group grew out of our realization that although there were a number of committees active, to provide better levels of service and faster expansion, we needed to have one coordinating body. The organization chart below shows all the groups that make it up. (Click on the chart to view it full-size.)

[FairfieldLife] Re: Fairfield, Iowa the Hub of the TM Movement..
Interesting. Hagelin's numbers are iffy at best. Not sure Iowa as a whole is any more enlightened than surrounding states. Not sure either what the supervisor meant when he said that someone learned TM and the TM people didn't want him to go back to his family. Never heard that before. As for the fellow who thought he was being brainwashed: in fact, he was being presented with a certain view of life that he was free to accept or reject. Malloy is right that it's a great place to live, but there is also a housing shortage that make it harder for firms to attract employees, and also the population is on the old side, even for Iowa. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com,wrote : We Travel to the Center of the Transcendental Meditation Movement on Today's 'Daily VICE' | VICE | United States http://www.vice.com/video/we-travel-to-the-unlikely-hub-of-transcendental-mediation-movement http://www.vice.com/video/we-travel-to-the-unlikely-hub-of-transcendental-mediation-movement We Travel to the Center of the Transcendental Meditation... http://www.vice.com/video/we-travel-to-the-unlikely-hub-of-transcendental-mediation-movement Then we hear about the cross-cultural street art festival POW! [FairfieldLife] Re: Fairfield,Iowa transcendental meditationists
A visiting Washington Post writer, Ben Terris recently came up with this, 'transcendentalmeditationists' as a shorthand descriptor largely for who or what we are in meditating Fairfield, Iowa. Technically this descriptor is pretty good. It encompasses the larger range of what has become transcendental meditationists in the community in Fairfield, Iowa. Non-capitalized the term is not limited by franchise of a trademark but is left describing Fairfield as its experiment in transcendentalism, that yes we are transcendentalists that can go back to the philosophy of transcendentalism or its philosophers. But 'meditationist' infers that we are here as transcendental meditationists in discipline of practice, more than just a bunch of philosophers and idealists. I like the shorthand 'transcendental meditationist' gives. I go out to conferences around the State of Iowa or out around the country where people will ask, “So, what is going on in Fairfield, Iowa?” Depending on what the person really wants to know I may just give the short answer, “Oh, we are a bunch of 'transcendentalists' living there. MJ, Living in the meditating communities of Fairfield, Iowa yep there are group meditations going on. There are satsangs that go on throughout the week that include sitting in group meditations. These have developed over the years as the administration of access to the Dome group meditation became more exclusive. But in the cycle of every week there is a sequence of meditations that you can sit with while in Fairfield. Every Thursday the Weekly Reader gets published and by examining that folks can find these satsangs or groups that sit in meditation. [FairfieldLife] Re: Fairfield Iowa Suicide Rate

Lawson, I was speaking with a mental health professional in FF on a Wednesday. She had already dealt with 3 crises. I asked her what caused them. She said in all three cases, the people went off their medication. I've gotten the impression that this is quite common, whether the person is a meditator or not. It sounds like the medications can have uncomfortable side effects. I think many meditators would prefer to avoid such medications if possible. Fairfield’s rate is indeed higher than the national average, which is 12.3 cases per population of 100,000, per year (as of 2011, the latest stats available). In Jefferson County, the rate is 19.83 cases per 100,000 as of 2014 (based on 20 suicides in 6 years with a county population of 16,810.) James Moore is correct in saying that the high suicides rate is a community-wide issue. As Matthew and James have pointed out in the comments, around a quarter of the 20 people who have died by suicide practiced TM. However, this does not mean, as James said, that suicide among TM practitioners is half the national average. On the contrary, the rate is actually higher than that of the county, because roughly 3,000 of the county’s nearly 17,000 practice TM. Actually you can. If TM takes you out of the ego, the sense of personal self, and if it works every time (i.e., you transcend at least once during a sitting), then in 40 years of meditation with some residence courses thrown in, you commit suicide some 30,000 times. If TM goes the distance (which some doubt), then eventually the suicide will be permanent. It won't be permanent in CC because ego is still in the centre of the active part of life in that experience. You need BC to catapult the ego to the periphery of life where it basically is on a short leash and can't run the show. Physical suicide results if TM dredges up something the ego can't deal with, and is more likely to occur in a 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' oppressive environment where help is unavailable by design. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, LEnglish5@... wrote : Here are the conclusions you could draw from this: 1) TM makes you more likely to commit suicide 2) people who do TM who decide to go live in Fairfield, Iowa, tend to self-medicate using TM, rather than seeking professional help for thi[ng]s that TM doesn't affect. 3) both of the above. Who says that the ego is destroyed or weakened or you are taken out of it or whatever with TM? Part of the issue is that we try to conflate Freud's terminology with Maharishi's and part of the issue is that we tend to assume that all meditation practices have the same effect, so the fact that mindfulness practices tend to weaken the functionality of the parts of the brain having to do with sense-of-self, combined with the interpretation of some very popular Buddhist sects that sense-of-self is evil, leads to all sorts of confusion. TM practice strengthens sense of self. Samadhi, or pure consciousness, during TM, also happens to be the point where the relaxed mind-wandering activity of the brain associated in Western science with sense of self happens to be greatest. When Fred Travis interviewed the people reporting CC for at least a year continuously, his interview question was: Describe your self. The people in CC responded along these lines, none of which suggest destruction of ego, in the sense that Freud would have understood, I believe: L1: We ordinarily think my self as this age; this color of hair; these hobbies . . . my experience is that my Self is a lot larger than that. It's immeasurably vast. . . on a physical level. It is not just restricted to this physical environment L2: It's the ‘‘I am-ness.’’ It's my Being. There's just a channel underneath that's just underlying everything. It's my essence there and it just doesn't stop where I stop. . . by ‘‘I,’’ I mean this 5 ft. 2 person that moves around here and there L3: I look out and see this beautiful divine Intelligence. . . you could say in the sky, in the tree, but really being expressed through these things. . . and these are my Self L4: I experience myself as being without edges or content. . . beyond the universe. . . all-pervading, and being absolutely thrilled, absolutely delighted with every motion that my body makes. With everything that my eyes see, my ears hear, my nose smells. There's a delight in the sense that I am able to penetrate that. My consciousness, my intelligence pervades everything I see, feel and think L5: When I say ’’I’’ that's the Self. There's a quality that is so pervasive about the Self that I'm quite sure that the ‘‘I’’ is the same ‘‘I’’ as everyone else's ‘‘I.’’ Not in terms of what follows right after. I am tall, I am short, I am fat, I am this, I am that. But the ‘‘I’’ part. The ‘‘I am’’ part is the same ‘‘I am’’ for you and me ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, anartaxius@... wrote : Actually you can. Spiritual and Material Values Every experience has its level of physiology, and so unbounded awareness has its own level of physiology which can be measured. Every aspect of life is integrated and connected with every other phase. When we talk of scientific measurements, it does not take away from the spiritual experience. We are not responsible for those times when spiritual experience was thought of as metaphysical. Everything is physical. Consciousness is the product of the functioning of the brain. Talking of scientific measurements is no damage to that wholeness of life which is present everywhere and which begins to be lived when the physiology is taking on a particular form. This is our understanding about spirituality: it is not on the level of faith --it is on the level of blood and bone and flesh and activity. It is measurable. -Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Sigh... Northoff et al. (2006) http://journal.frontiersin.org/Journal/10.3389/fnhum.2011.00056/full#B45, for instance, conceptualizes MW as a “psychological baseline,” a form of continuous self-referential processing which is evident during non-task conditions and which ultimately forms our subjective experience of a “continuous stream of subjective experience” or “phenomenal time” where past, present, and future are no longer divided but integrated. Maharishi has always (in my memory) described TM as mind-wandering, allowing the mind to wander in the direction of greatest happiness, which he described as pure consciousness, pure self-referral consciousness, so his descriptions of the process of TM allowing the mind to settle down into its state of least excitation, while saying that that is pure self-referral consciousness, is supported by Western scientific concepts of self. Several studies published over the years have examined the physiological functioning of someone reporting pure consciousness during TM. The very concept of using science to study meditation and spirituality was proposed by Maharishi back as early as 1957. By 1959, _Hermit in My House_ described his students building a dark-room shack in the backyard of the Olson's house so they could photograph TMers in an attempt to catch subtle glow from meditator's faces. That never worked out, but the scientific research program on studying the physiology of meditation has been ongoing ever since, especially with the publication of R Keith Wallace's PhD research in Science in 1970. I quoted Maharishi's take on researching meditation at the start of this message. Research on pure consciousness during TM, and so on: Electrophysiologic characteristics of ... The numbers of folk in the domes in iowa are way below what is needed to affect national consciousness, according to theory.
