Yeah, but what if Marek is the public defender, chanting away, and the prosecutor in the case is one of your guys, also chanting away. Who gets the 20% edge, eh? :-)

Here is an odd request, but perhaps a few people will be interested. I have a pretty big trial coming up in a couple of weeks (I work as a Public Defender in California, and the case against my client involves the charge of attempted murder where the alleged victim is a cop) and I'd like to check with an outside, uninvolved panel of people who would be willing to give me their reaction(s) to themes and strategies I'm working with. It would be an outside forum, off FFL. So if you're willing to participate, please contact me directly in the next couple of days using the Subject line "Panel". Without compromising any confidentiality issues, of course, I would outline the facts of the case, crimes charged, elements of those crimes, possible defenses, and most importantly, my contemplated trial theme. I'm looking for feedback on that -- would it address your concerns as a juror, etc. -- that sort of thing. Basically, you'd be part of an unpaid jury focus group. If you're interested, please email and I'll set up a mailgroup and give you the rundown. Thanks. Marek

It violates the "Total Natural Law", Sir Alex. The laws operate differently once an entity reaches the level of the intellect. The Shastras themselves say that the law of Dharma does not apply to animals because they have no intellect. This Vaj is crazy. He hurls accusations without giving any clues at all. According to the Vedic Philosophy the 4 Varnas are based on duty and not birth. In ancient times the system was flexible. If one changes his occupation he naturaly becomes another Varna. Over the course of centuries the system became rigid and dogmatic. Perhaps Vaj has confused the teachings of the Koran with the Vedic
Philosophy. In Islamic traditions, If you kill an infidel, his wife becomes your property and you can do whatever you want to do with her. [FairfieldLife] Re: Unusual Request, Public Defender wants assistance

2006-10-29 Thread curtisdeltablues
I think Vaj's point was actually nicer than the Vedic view of
Westerners as I understand it. We are not even untouchables who are
in the caste system and can trace their Shaka or Ghotra back to the
original Rishis. We are what MMY referred to in India as the
mix-ups because we have no clear lineage, and would require more
purification because of our low birth. Vaj's point that such low
lifes can be used at will is not much of a jump. In the Vedic system
the unsee-ables, below untouchables, have to ring a bell so people
can avert their eyes as they walked around. We are below that status
in the Vedic system. We are out-castes, the lowest humans in the
Vedic system.

Actually, they can only hop around on their asses until one of proper

2006-10-29 Thread curtisdeltablues
Well I can cop to my own waking state ignorance, but I never heard MMY
deny the details or the caste system contained in the Vedic texts in
this way. Sanatana Dharma is in full support for the caste system and
Guru Dev was its champion. So even though your point may be valid in
MMY's system for the 4 main Vedas, the texts that came later make
specific claims about the world. One of those details are the
structure of the caste system which is supported by MMY every time he
talks about it. If what you said was true of the later texts, there
would be no Ayur or Stapatya Vedas with their detailed instructions.

There are stern warnings in the Shiva Purana about unqualified people
(and this is much more than just being a veggie) performing the
Gayatri Mantra, and many rules (too long to list here) are listed for
those who are qualified to perform it:

Kailasasamhita Ch. 13 - 57: After thinking thus the intelligent
devotee shall perform the Japa of Gayatri...58: The sinner who
repeats Gayatri in any other manner is tortured in the terrible hell
for the period of kalpa [~4.3 billion years].

TM is for everybody -- other powerful Vedic routines are not, so you
might want to think about not messing with it, or at least reading
the Shiva Purana to find out what's what. It's good to admire Vedic
routines, but I don't think it's reasonable to pick what you like to
do and not pay attention to the guidelines which are offered.
Gayatri is often recommended to reduce kapha so as you can probably
guess it is a heating mantra and will probably increase pitta which
could be a little troublesome for pitta westerners. Of course you need
to know how to pronounce it properly before practicing it. That's where
a personal guru comes in handy.

2006-10-29 Thread shukra69
I think others have answered this question but I might offer some info
based on my own experience. When I was leading a very sattvic life in
many respects this one elderly Pundit who could see auras commented
favorably on mine and after a short discussion suggested I could do
Gayatri. I soon had a terrible omen dream where I saw stars moving
wildly like the earth was falling out of its normal orbit. I mentioned
this to that Pundit and he immediately said that I must be eating
meat. I said occaisionally yes and he said you are not qualified to
do gayatri But he said if I became pure vegetarian and did a full
repetition of the Guru planet mantra during that year ( its the one
that is approx Devanaancha rishi naancha gurum kanchansannibham
bhudhibhutam...)in addition to what I was already doing then I could
do Gayatri. I never tried.

Not victims, but dealt with dishonestly. You don't think that taking
money and not using it for it's stated purpose is both dishonest and
condescending? It's not good to use someone's ignorance against them.

Which money specifically?

Regarding the TMO tapping westerners for money, who knows? I

your client (the defense guys who set up the O.J. Simpson jury did a
great job) regardless of the merit of what you have to say. This is
similar to the way politics is conducted these days -- there is
little or no attempt to change people's minds, but pols attempt to
energize their base and get them to donate and vote.

So, in your case, I'm not sure your presentation, with a group that
is unlikely to reflect the jury pool you will be drawing from, is
going to do you any good. If you had any money, instead of being a
public defender, you could rent a jury in your locale and make your
pitch, getting feedback from people who are a good demographic mix
representing your likely jury pool, and this kind of feedback would
be useful, but I don't see this list as being in any way
representative of the jurors you are likely to see in court.

**End**

Yes, you are entirely correct.

Delving into the individual personality profile part is what's called
jury selection, or voir dire, which is normally done orally; attorneys
question potential jurors regarding issues they (the lawyers) are
planning on addressing and attempt to expose biases and prejudices in
the jurors that may be helpful or unhelpful.

And in all capital cases (death penalty), and even in most homicides,
there will be a jury questionnaire carefully prepared and crafted,
with the assistance of professional jury consultants, and even
sometimes the rental juries you referred to, so as to really hone in
on the type of juror the defense wants for the case. Even so, jury
selection is more of an art than anything else and sometimes you just
don't get the result you want and find out, after trial, some of the
ideas and thoughts in the minds of the jurors were ones that you
hadn't considered or fully addressed, etc. (...and sometimes the
facts don't allow more than a single conclusion...) Without question,
this particular group (FFL) is way off the charts as far as being
representational of any other demographic I could even imagine having
to select from.

But, precisely because FFL is so peculiar, and so peculiarly gifted, I
wanted to bounce around some ideas regarding the overall strategy of
the case (and the theme *is* the strategy), if anyone wanted to. If
nothing else, it struck me as an interesting idea. I'll find out. A
couple of people have already contacted me. Probably by Monday,
whoever has emailed me by then, that'll be the group. It'll probably
be a back and forth for several days or maybe a couple of weeks at the
most. At least that's my guess. Jury selection doesn't begin until
November 7 and will last at least 2 weeks, maybe 3. So there's lots
of stuff to deal with and think about and prepare for, and this seemed
like it could be fun. See how it goes.

Let me guess...banging a Brahman's wife gets ya 5 billion years in an
ugabuga terrible hell. Not giving money to a Brahman, when he hits
you up for a fiver to get a six pack, gets ya a bunch of billion years
in a bad bad hell that smells bad and is bad. And should a person not
obey all the orders of a Brahman, they will be tortured in a bad place
and it will be hell and it will be hot and not nice and the food will
be bad and your clothes will not fit and people will be rude to you
for about 3.5 billion years or even more, and you will not like it and
you should obey Brahmans who made up these rules.

Call me ignorant, but I'm going with a total F the Brahmans
philosophy. All these phony rules were made up for an ancient power
play, and they don't work anymore cuz now we can all read. So now the
Brahmans can all get real jobs like the rest of us, and stop extorting
money with their made-up silly threats about hell. Peace out.

Its actually descriptive vs perscriptive. All of this is just
descriptions of inner states and consequences. Sort of like in the
West when we say we are 'worried sick' or 'feeling blue', it is a
precise description of the inner state and its consequences. The
literal intepretation is meant to hide its true meaning and value
(or does so through the function of time in any case).

I honestly think you are more enlightened than the A-holes who wrote
this coercive nonsense Jim.
