Re: [Finale] Beaming Groups of Tuplet 16ths

Hi Patricia,
Have you tried Special Tools Secondary Beam Break Tool? Click on beams.
Select the forth box from the left and press enter. A dialog appears asking
what to do. Tell it Break only and check 16th. It just worked for me.
Hope this helps.

[Finale] Upgrading to Finale Mac 2014

2014-07-16 Thread Thurletta Brown-Gavins
I finally bit the bullet yesterday and purchased a MacBook Pro running
Mavericks. You guessed it: Finale 2012 is dead (along with a slew of my other
apps).

Anyone have any idea whether there is likely to be an upcoming upgrade-special
that will make the leap to Finale 2014 cheaper than $139? Feeling kinda broke

[Finale] Resend: Stems spanning staves -- lots of them

2014-07-16 Thread Dennis Bathory-Kitsz
Hi all,

My past few posts have gotten no answers, so I'm wondering if they've actually
gotten through. Resending this one...

I have received a project with some 500 measures of music for multiple
keyboards where the stems span staves like this image:

  http://maltedmedia.com/images/finale/frozen01.jpg

Those are all solid stems (and yes, this photocopy is the best quality that I
have to work with; the actual pencil original from 40 years ago was lost in a
fire).

Is there a method or plugin other than entering notes on one staff and
dragging to the other with the note mover tool?

Because of the ledger lines, the least painful method I can think of is to
enter the notes on the treble staff, change that staff to a bass staff and
enter those notes, then change back and drag.

My usual entry method is Speedy on the computer keyboard.

Thanks,
Dennis

2014-07-16 Thread Christopher Smith
Eric tells the truth.

If you have a whole bunch of them, you may be despairing of the amount of
mouse-clicks it will take, but fortunately you can copy ONLY beam alterations
without copying the notes or other things, by setting the filter. The triplets
would have to be on the same beat in the bar to copy easily, but that should be
a problem.

Also JW Pattern (free 3rd party plugin) will copy beaming easily.

Finale 2012 is supposed to work in Mavericks. Have you tried re-installing?
Often the Finale installation breaks for me when I upgrade the OS or migrate to

I would enter them all on the top staff using speedy with caps lock. You
can then drag the first one using Cross Stave and my Mass Copy plugin will
copy the cross staffing from. It seems only slightly tedious to me.

Robert, thanks,

The tediousness comes from the range -- high above the treble clef and far
below the bass clef is such a distance on the same stem, and without some kind
of method to change the view, there are too many ledger lines in one clef or
the other to count. Am I missing something in your description?

And how does the caps lock help me here?

Assuming you have a keyboard with a wide enough span, you set caps lock on
3 (16th notes) then play all the chords in one at a time. Then change the
16ths to the correct dotted rhythms.

In that case you might find it easier to use transposition with keep
original notes checked. Unfortunately it is not a consistent interval from
note to note, but you can set up several transposition metatools that might
speed up the process if there are some intervals that are more prevalent
than others.

Re: [Finale] Resend: Stems spanning staves -- lots of them

2014-07-16 Thread SN jef chippewa

yuck.

but yeah there seem to be a few recurrent
intervals (F#-D), so if this is a consistent
thing you might want to set up a model (32nd, for
ex.) then copy-paste and adjust durations and add
ties. depending on the amount of recurrence,
setting your transposition metatools (6-9) may or
may not be quicker.

looks a lot like sciarrino's perduto in una città d'acqua... sped up.

In that case you might find it easier to use
transposition with keep original notes
checked. Unfortunately it is not a consistent
interval from note to note, but you can set up
several transposition metatools that might speed
up the process if there are some intervals that
are more prevalent than others.

Nothing is consistent over the long term. Each part has its own set of
presentation problems and musical developments.

Thanks -- and to Robert, too (also Implode Music hasn't helpful for me in
general).

I've got to give an estimate on this so the composer can apply for funds. If
there happened to be some really good shortcuts I was missing, then it would
be more, um, economical.

Incompatibility with an old (and still reliable) HP 5000 is the only thing that
prevents me from upgrading to Mavericks. As far as I can tell (haven't checked
this lately) there are no drivers that will work with this printer and
Mavericks. There were some suggestions of things to try - but none worked, and
the upgrade is not worth the price of a new printer.

If there is new information available, I too would be grateful to hear about it.

10.9.4 seems to be incompatible with my printer driver. (10.9.2 was for
sure fine, and I'm not certain about 10.9.3.) But I am still able to print
because I run Snow Leopard with VMWare Fusion. I highly recommend setting
up a virtual of the oldest Mac OS you can using Fusion. It has saved many
of my old programs and now this printer.

(To set up virtual Snow Leopard you need a Snow Leopard Server disc.
Setting up virtual Lion or Mountain Lion is supposedly easier.)

Re: [Finale] Laser Jet 5000 and Finale--Various OSes

2014-07-16 Thread Williams, Jim
I don't know if this is relevant for Mac users, but with Windows 8, I was
having problems with my LaserJet 5000 UNTIL I changed the print processor to
WINPRINT instead of the HP print processor.
There must be some Mac equivalent, I'd think. On Win 8, I went into the
printers area, called up the 5000's properties, and changed the print processor.
I have NO idea what that menu looks like on a Mac, or how to access it, but you
Macsters do know, so it might be worth messing with to see if you can get
everything out of the 5000 that it has to offer.
The change in OS from Win 7 to Win 8 hosed my 5000 until I discovered that fix,
and almost every subsequent update to Win 8 has hosed it as well, and I've
had to reset it every time.
Hope this helps Win 8 users; perhaps you Macsters can benefit from my
experience as well.
Jim

Re: [Finale] Upgrading to Finale Mac 2014

2014-07-16 Thread Chuck Israels
I wish I understood how this is working for you. I am not the only one with
this problem.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5676471

This thread aptly describes my experience - including HP's eagerness to sell me
a new printer. They simply say that they no longer support the old product.
Apple is no more helpful. It's been a while since I tried using Mavericks
because of this problem, so the experience is not fresh in my mind, but what I
read on the thread reminds me of my frustrations.

I don''t understand what elements might be different between our systems that
might be creating the difficulty for me. I am using an ethernet connection to
the printer.

HP. The only way I can make it work is to save as a PDF and configure each
PDF part separately to 12X18 landscape. If anyone has a work around, I'd
 appreciate hearing about it.

Re: [Finale] Upgrading to Finale Mac 2014

2014-07-16 Thread Jim Gray
Scott,

What size paper are you printing on? I can print on 8½ x 11 11 x 17 both
landscape and portrait, and 9 x 12 portrait with no problem. But when I try to
print on 12 x 18 landscape I am not able. As I have researched this it seems to
apply across the board outside of Finale. I noticed a few complaints from
architects trying to print oversized blueprints on 12 x 18.

I use an HP 5500.

There must be some Mac equivalent, I'd think. On Win 8, I went into the
printers area, called up the 5000's properties, and changed the print
 processor.
I have NO idea what that menu looks like on a Mac, or how to access it, but
you Macsters do know, so it might be worth messing with to see if you can get
everything out of the 5000 that it has to offer.
The change in OS from Win 7 to Win 8 hosed my 5000 until I discovered that
fix, and almost every subsequent update to Win 8 has hosed it as well, and
I've had to reset it every time.
Hope this helps Win 8 users; perhaps you Macsters can benefit from my
 experience as well.

Jim,

Unfortunately I have no 12x18 paper to test to. I mainly print single sheets

have no need to keep that paper in stock. I print large formatted scores mostly.
