I would suggest that you name the actual switches "children" and "parent" Furthermore naming it this way would indicate two things: There can be many children but only _one_ parent. Is that correct? [Fink-devel] Hello Fink Project
Hi everyone, I'm very pleased to join the Fink Project, after being invited to become a doc writer. To introduce myself, my name is Pedro Massobrio, but I'm better known as Sao. At the moment, I'm a member of the macosxhints-forums as a Unix-X11 Moderator, and maintain my own web-site about Fink & Apple's X11. Although I already got some feedback about the scope of my work here from 'dmalloc', I will take this opportunity to ask the four Project Leaders to comment on what exactly they expect me to do, as well as provide general guidelines for my work. These last couple of days, I have been checking the structure and documentation of the Fink web-site and already have several ideas which I will present very soon. I would rely on prior consultation and positive feedback from the project members before I implement any changes to the already established structure. And I will be happy to work together with the other members of the Support and Documentation Team. For the moment, let me just say that Fink is a great Project, and again I'm very glad to be a part of it. Hm, bad. But just to double check, if you take a look at your /sw/etc/fink.conf, to which value is "MirrorOrder" set? MirrorOrder: MasterFirst And it does work if I actually read (oops) what is on screen and select the "custom mirror" option. Is MasterFirst a default I set up on installation? I don't remember. In any case, this reiterates the slightly broken nature of the rsync fink configuration. In particular, it is using CustomMirror only to compensate for the fact that the URL has to change once a version is no longer the most current. Is there a way to specify a set of URLs that always override the fink-wide mirror configuration? b.bum smime.p7s Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature

Re: [Fink-devel] Idea: "LangVersion" field in .info
Dan, When I expanded "Type: perl" to allow "Type: perl 5.x.y" back in June, I stuck the version number into the same field because I was getting flack about unnecessarily increasing the number of fields. However, in wedging it in there I did some less-than-pretty things to the code! One thing which is not completely obvious is that the 5.x.y in "Type: perl 5.x.y" affects the behavior of the UpdatePOD declaration, which does different things for "Type: perl" and "Type: perl 5.x.y". A general mechnism for handling language variants will be great, but it has to be recognized that the types of changes to Fink which will be needed for the various languages are going to be different. This will require some careful planning. -- Dave --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program. Does SourceForge.net help you be more productive? Does it help you create better code? Re: [Fink-devel] Idea: "LangVersion" field in .info
Okay, I'm now parsing the Type field for the version of perl. The code is extensible to other versionable languages (python, etc.). A bit of syntax change to Type: would probably a allow upgrading to handle multiple language keys (or other variants) in a logical AND meaning by putting them all in a hash instad of a simple scalar. For now I'm not working on that mess nor thought about Peter's complementary idea of (if I understand it) having .info be a template that generates many packages using each key in turn. Either of these directions would probably have to wait until Depends can support boolean and/or conditional logic. So...what percent expansion keys should I use? I need one for the language version string as written (5.8.1 for perl, 2.3 for python, etc.) and one for the condensed way package names are written (581, 23, etc.). I'm currently using %lV and %lv for the raw and cooked versions... I haven't yet implemented this %substutution in the main Package: of an .info file (but yes for SplitOff:Package:). Doing so will take some work for the validator code where it compares Package with .info filename. dan -- Daniel Macks [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.netspace.org/~dmacks --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program.
