This message is from: Debbie LeBreton [EMAIL PROTECTED] Congrats on the new baby. I was hoping that some one could please help me with a problem that I have with my 11 year old fjord mare. She has mucus running out of her nose. Sometimes it is big goobs of it and other times it is runnier. It is like she has a bad cold. It has been going on for a couple of weeks. I have her on vet recommended medicine and herbal medicines but nothing is helping. She is still eating and seems healthy otherwise. I ride her for about ten minutes a day to exercise her lungs. She has 15 acres to run on as well. I have not been giving her any hay to see if that makes a difference. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] That's funny, the only OH Wynn offspring listed in the NFHR pedigree search is a white dun also, Plain Dealings Linnea I would expect that FC Madellin WOULD have a white dun, or possibly a yellow when bred to Wynn. Is it possible that this filly is a yellow? Actually, Plain Dealings Linnea isn't a White (Red x Brown will never gives White, or Yellow for that matter). Based on the lineage she'd most likely be either be a Red or a Brown...though Red x Brown can also give Gray (as long as both parents carry Black...actually Red masks Black so it's possible for the Red to be homozygous for Black...that'd be quite a genotype!). The new White filly would, of course, be White because of the dam. No matter how nice a Red stallion is, he'll never be responsible for a White foal! LoL Anyway, if she truly has black in her tail then she's not a Yellow (didn't I read she had black in her tail...on the website maybe?). He does go for the brushing tho and stood patiently waiting yesterday while I did the mare. He knew he was next. They were both loose in the field. Anne Appleby took him trail riding when she had him for training last month and remarked at how calm and willing he was to go through thickets, streams etc all by himself. Re: birth announcement!
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (James Rollins) Cornerstone Fjords is proud to announce the arrival of Cornerstone's Ekko born at 10:40pm last night. Ekko is a large dark brown dun filly with a distinct dorsal stripe and dark mocha colored face. She is out of our mare Agneta, (Gjest daughter), and by Samstein, (Sambar son, owned by Brian Jensen of Trinity Fjords). Agneta was due to foal on March 22! This fine filly was well worth the wait and long nights sleeping in the barn. Now caretaker Kathy is hoping between checks on the girls to get in a nap or twoHappy foaling to everyone awaiting their spring arrivals! These little ones are such blessings and treasures from the Lord! Kathleen Rollins, Deer Park, WA.

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Jean, I would like to introduce ourselves: We are from Michigan-Nottawa Crossing Fjords, Marshall. I assume your mare came from Michigan also! I have a mare sired by Haugull, and out of Gerda. She is 14 years old already-we bought her as a weanling, from the breeder. I wish you many enjoyable hours with your mare and foal! Re: Birth announcement, tail question
This message is from: Julia Will [EMAIL PROTECTED] We have never had a foal nibble at the mare's tail...never gave it a thought! Of course foals come at the beginning of bug season, and the tail is usually pretty well in motion! Congrats on your big boy! Julie
Re: Birth announcement, tail question
This message is from: Jean Ernest [EMAIL PROTECTED] Gail, You can put some no chew type spray on it, like bitter apple, that would taste bad to the foal, but be non toxic. Just be sure not to get any on the udder, etc. Jean in Fairbanks, Alaska About the tail - someone suggested that Luisa's tail is in severe danger from this nibbly colt - and yet I hate to put it back in a tail bag as she hates it so much. What, if anything, do others do. Gail Russell Forestville CA [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jean Ernest Fairbanks, Alaska [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Birth announcement, tail question
This message is from: GAIL RUSSELL [EMAIL PROTECTED] Well, after six weeks of foal watch, Anvil's Luise gave birth to a LARGE brown dun colt. (His sire is Leidjo, who sometimes produces greys, so that was a possibility). He should be big, as he has the bloodlines for it, and to quote the vet, That is the largest Fjord foal I've ever seen and if she can have that size foal as a maiden mare without assistance, she can have a JEEP next time. Despite his size his legs are nice and straight. I've only just recovered from the cumulative sleep loss. The foal was actually probably only two weeks overdue, but it sure was a long wait. In the end she waxed up so obviously that there was no doubt when she was going to foal. She did need just a bit of assistance as one of the legs seemed to have gotten jammed near the top. Gunthar watched, over my shoulder and found the baby fascinating. He was not thrilled when he had to be taken away to the gelding pasture. Luisa was initially VERy tired, and shivering - I guess her blood sugar plummeted for a time. We put a small blanket over her until she recovered. About the tail - someone suggested that Luisa's tail is in severe danger from this nibbly colt - and yet I hate to put it back in a tail bag as she hates it so much. What, if anything, do others do. Re: Birth announcement!
This message is from: Jean Gayle [EMAIL PROTECTED] William, my mare foaled between eight PM and midnight in three births. She would get quite secretive, hiding behind clumps of grass, or a small tree and averting her eyes as though I was not to see her. This may have caused later births but not by much. This message is from: William Coli [EMAIL PROTECTED] We have noticed a tendency for mares to foal at just about dawn, or just before. Have others seen this frequently as well? This seems like a strange time, since this is also when many predators are on the prowl-not the time to have the smell of blood around.

Re: BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Arthur Rivoire) Hello from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia - We have three mares to foal out this year. Holly (Solar) was the first due on April 29th. Sunday morning (the 25th) I was doing the chores with our handyman, George. Holly had spent the night in the foaling stall deeply bedded in bright, clean straw. George checked the stall for a foal, and then let Holly out to eat her hay with the other two mares. I started the feeding, and sent George up to the Nursery with a bucket each for the three pregnant mares. Five minutes later, George was leading a horse to pasture and I was following with another when he yelled at me, Put that horse back, Carol, and come up here. I did and found Holly had produced a very big foal right in the mud and manure of the Nursery Yard. She'd been out of that carefully prepared stall for all of ten minutes, five of which she'd been eating. Well, we shoved clean straw under the foal, let them be for half an hour, and when he finally got to his feet, guided him into the stall with Holly following. The other two mares never came near. Maryke watched from a distance, and Stine ate her hay with her back turned. This colt is a full brother to BDF John Arthur and BDF Magnum, both members of the Fabulous Fjord Quadrille in Colorado. He's also a full brother to BDF Polestar, going soon to Wisconsin as a prospective breeding stallion. We've followed the Dutch alphabetical system of naming each foal crop, and this is our Q year. I was planning on skipping over to R, but have decided to stretch to find three Q names. We're thinking of BDF QUASAR for this bruiser of a foal. Everyone on the farm is voting for that name. Funny thing is, I looked in vain for the word quasar in our old Webster dictioinary, printed in 1966. No such word at that time. Found it in a new Canadian dictionary.
