R.I.P STELLA II N-14138 C-120
This message is from: jern...@mosquitonet.com Well her time finally came: Stella made it through the winter, barely, but was falling down today, staggering in circles, so it was time to put her down. She was 36 years old, the same age as old Bjarne when he died. We had the second hole dug when we buried Bjarne two years ago, and were finally able to get down there. Dear old Stella, I have been worried every day that we would have to help her get up. She went down and we had to use the winch on the ATV to help her get up. The other day we had to get three neighbors to help get her out of the stall where she had gone down. I knew when I watched her this afternoon that it was time. It is a relief but there is a big hole in my heart. Stella left a legacy through her daughter Anvil's Stina: Lisa Pedersen has most of Stina's offspring: I have Anvil's Adel who's sire is Leidjo. This message is from: jern...@mosquitonet.com Thanks Jo, I appreciate all of the heartfelt condolence messages, but I do have tears in my eyes. Amazingly there are a lot of old horses here: Maybe because they only work about 6 months of the year, and flies, ticks and many of the diseases like West Nile fever, EPM and Lyme disease are not here. Horses tolerate cold better than heat also if there is plenty of feed and water. But a number of horses did die here this winter, Most when it warmed up after our record cold spell in November. I only hope my other two will live as long and healthy lives as Bjarne and Stella! Jean, In Alaska where snow is finally melting but we have a lot to go! 36 years old. Holy smokes!, must be the clean air up there in your neck of the woods. I find in times such as this, i do not have the correct words. My heart is heavy when i think of the grief this loss must bring to you. Please feel the prayers coming your way from a fellow Fjorder. God bless you. Stella
This message is from: sam Stanley barefootfj...@yahoo.com I would like to add to the Stella report ;) Sue G was kind enough to allow me to take Stella to my farm for the rest of her time on this earth. This mare is truly a star. She was bred and due in the fall when I picked her up 2 summers ago. Not only did she have a youngster at her side weaning, she was HUGE. I recall having doubts about her width fitting in my 2 horse straight load. That was July 2008, in August and Sept she helped little kids and challenged adults learn about basic horsemanship skills in social settings with dignity and grace. In October she gave birth to a small but perfect filly. Both baby and Stella are happy and healthy. My vet did have concerns that her body had carried enough foals, the rigging' is hanging a tad low these days ;) I assured him that it had been her last. At that point he strongly recommended against any further breeding for her sake. The registry has 9 of her foals listed, I know of a few more still unregistered, I think 4 including Eirna her last. Sue G. could confirm that.. So, that leaves her at probably 13 foals, the last 2 her early twenties. I do feel if she had continued to work in those last few pregnancies as she did through all the earlier ones, gravity may not have gotten the better of her physically. NOT to say I would have bred her, she has contributed enough to the North American fjord population! Just that she may not have stretched quite so much. But after that many, who knows. Today she is still a star as a therapy horse, a childs school pony, and my driving instructor. I anticipate with light work and good condition she will stay productive and happy untill she is laid to rest out back, with any luck well into her thirties. I am honored to have Stella here with us and thank Sue every chance I get! Sam Stanley Barefoot Farm Amesbury Ma. Hello!! Stella Equitana...
This message is from: Susan Giargiari felicityfjo...@live.com Hello Fellow Fjorders! Marcy and Pat! Oh my heavensI cannot believe how long it has been since I have been online and read the Fjord Digest!! And to see my Stella mentioned! Alaslol...it was not Stella who was at Equitana with Richard and I! It was Saskia and her foal, Tobyn. Saskia was 25 years old when she foaled with Tobyn and traveled from NH to KY on the big 'travel trailer'. Tobyn was the first raffle foal for the NFHA that our wonderful friend Marcia Carose won! Do you remember Marcy, when we all got back to the motel rooms at about 11:30 at night after packing up all the 'stuff'! and we made Richard call her?!! Yesit was very late but we all agreed that if it was one of us that wonwe sure would want to be called as soon as possible!! She couldn't believe it and her and Kurt's continuing contributions to the Fjord world in America have been a wonderful journey to follow! The following year at Equitana we brought Ceacy Henderson's sweet mare Freya and Konggard foal, Uvelsa, known as Velsy?sp.. Equitana is where we met Pat for the first time! When Ceacy and I ventured out to the Libby , MT show by ourselves...we stayed at Green Valley Farm and meet up with Pat again! Of course, Richard and I being the great travelers...did meet up with Pat at the Blue Earth, MN show in between, if my memory isn't failing mehaha~ To answer Pat on Konggard's gelding...he was gelded somewhere around 2004 I believe. Richard and I have been separated and divorced since spring of 2006 and I remember Kong being gelded before that. I retained ownership of Stella and Hilmar in the divorce and gave Richard the New Holland Tractor! Our son, Anthony, became a father to Jordan at the very young age of 18, Dec '06 and I have had custody of him since he was 10 weeks old! I can't believe he just turned 4 years old and if any of you saw himyou can't tell him apart from Anthony at that age! Hilmar was gelded in October of 2010 and the young woman who bought my farm in Northfield, MA now owns him! I was so happy that he was able to stay there and be the 'King' of his pastures! If you google '570 Millers Falls , Northfield, MA you can see him grazing in the pasture at the side of the road! Way too cool! You have to go to the 'satelite' version of google maps.. He is now 24 years old! Stella is now 25 years old and I she has a forever home with Sam Stanley in Amesbury, MA. Sam does a Theraputic Riding program with her and she is such a steady eddy-done it all horse! I now live in Westboro, MA with my Mom and younger handicapped sister, Judy! My dad passed away almost two years ago and with my health issues and Mom'sit works out wonderful...we all help take care of each other! And for me.I am no longer out numbered by men!! Poor Jordan thoughlol One of these days I will take care of registering the last couple of foals that Stella had! She has had a total of 12 foals. She had a colt that died of colic at 11 months old named Yuri and another colt named Conan that Ricard placed when we were separated and I was hospitalized for a month with blocked kidneys! He got a load of hay for me in exchange. Then Stella had two fillies, one named Dena, after Hilmar's dam. She had her last foal and filly at her forever home with Sam! I miss my horses terribly but the doors that I have walked thru during my life have blessed my life in many different ways and as alwaysI will keep walking thru them!! Take care all of you and I will be lurking on the list now that I am online again! This message is from: Jean Ernest [EMAIL PROTECTED] BTW, I haven't heard much about the moose in your neighborhood this year. I take it they aren't pestering your horses too much these days? The cow and calf moose that had bedded down outside my window a few weeks ago were back yesterday, eating hay out of the back corner of my Hay barn. I have some alfalfa in the little horse barn and have been careful to keep both parts of the dutch door closed, and lucky I did. The moose calf was sniffing around the door yesterday, he could smell the alfalfa. I was afraid they might jump into the barn over the bottom half of the dutch door, and not be able to jump out, which would pose a bit of a problem..:-) The horses don't pay any attention to the moose anymore, which will be an asset when we meet moose on the trail. However I have to be cautious about the dog when putting her out on her cable runner. Yesterday morning the moose scared her enough that she hit the end of the rope and broke her collar, then took off in the dark down the drive toward the road. With all the morning traffic on the road I was afraid she might get hit, but she did come running back safely. Since then she is very spooky about the woods in back of the house...on the lookout for those moose! She has three daughers, one still in Norwayas well as Anvil's Stina, an ulsdun owned by the Unraus and Two Rivers Bjelke (somehwere in California or the Northwest) http://www.capable.on.ca/clinic/Stella.jpg http://www.capable.on.ca/clinic/Stellahead.jpg My big gelding Bjorken was born in l987. His sire is Anvil's Rikolv owned by George Weaver.Bjorken is 15-2hh and has good withers (which probably add 2 to his height.) He is rather light boned for his size and I would guess would be marked down at an evaluation for that as well as for breed type as I don't consider him real typey . I never considered keeping him as a stallion. He is a wonderful riding horse with a great personality and very gentle and I love his size as I am pretty tall. http://www.capable.on.ca/clinic/Bjorken1.jpg http://www.capable.on.ca/clinic/Bjorken2.jpg I have posted these picture to show how some traits are passed on as well as to show off my favorite fjords! Be gentle with your comments! LOL Jean in Fairbanks, Alaska where it is clear and cool, (-8) but will be sunny and gorgeous later. Perfect for ice carving and dogsledding! Pictures of Stella II and Bjorken
This message is from: Jean Ernest [EMAIL PROTECTED] Lori Albroughj has put picture of two of my fjords on her website. (Thanks, Lori!) My mare Stella (Stella II) was imported by the Unraus from Norway along with her dam Line in l981. Her sire is Butind N1697. Stella was born in l977, the picture was taken in l989.She is 14-3 hh. She is lighter boned than Line, has very good hooves. I think her hind leg is a bit too straight, However all of her offspring have very good hindquarters. She was approved for breeding in Norway. Stella has two sons who are 15-2hh, Anvil's Solvaktig (White dun?..no stripe) and Bjorken, light brown dun.
