Re: [Flexradio] Transmit Echo
Joe, Usually echo (not a delay) in your transmitted audio is RF getting into the audio chain somewhere..One way to prove it is to record someone on the air and play back over the air to see if the echo goes away with the recording playback (since the Quick Playback disconnects the mic) .Make sure that the outer shield is connected to ground in the mic connector (pin5) and that your shield is connected to pin 5 also, that is chassis ground. If you have another mic to plug into the rear of the 5K balanced input, that will give you something else to work with.. An extra ferrite on the FireWire cable, up close to the computer is good and have the computer grounded to your station RF ground. I keep a field strength meter setting on top of my amp,if I see the meter come off the zero peg, there is usually a problem some where, or antenna down. 73, Dudley WA5QPZ FlexRadio Systems (512) 250-8595, Option 2 Email: dud...@flex-radio.com Web: www.flex-radio.com "Tune in excitement!" ™ On Fri, Sep 17, 2010 at 6:39 PM, Joe Word wrote: > When I transmit in SSB I get an echo. Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Re: Flex-1500 external equipment sequencingissue...
John, I want to be sure I understand what you are saying because I think what you want to happen is something that I made possible because I am fond of the little PTT mike that came with my TS-480! I don't particularly like my Heil and since I am in a semi-prone position when operating I don't like foot switches, either. I simply made a "breakout box" with an eight terminal strip in it and mounted separate output jacks on the box for the radios/applications I want to use. The PTT mike switch can be, and is at present, connected to the correct pin on the Flex3000. If I ever decide to implement some plan using a transverter I would simply bring that line out of the box separately to the sequencer and take the proper delayed output from the sequencer back in to my breakout box and apply it to the mike jack on the Flex5000A although I am aware that in that specific case there may be more than one way to key the radio. Like you, I tend to stay away from "accessory jacks." Would this work in your case or is there something I don't understand. 73 Lee K9WRU - Original Message - From: "John Maetta" To: Sent: Friday, September 17, 2010 5:12 PM Subject: Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Re: Flex-1500 external equipment sequencingissue... Still, consider the following: 1. The digital mode program keys the sequencer using a physical serial port such as a USB-to-Serial adaptor. DTR or RTS on that port can be used to key the sequencer. Designate this as port A. 2. The sequencer output for the transceiver is connected to DSR or RTS of a second serial port through an appropriate level-shifter. That serial port is then used as the keying signal input to PowerSDR. Designate this as port B. Now when JT65 or fldigi asserts PTT, the DTR or RTS signal or port A is asserted, thus keying the sequencer. When the sequencer has sequentially keyed the preamp, PA, and transverter, the PTT signal from the sequencer to the transceiver is asserted thus asserting DSR or CTS is asserted on port B through the level shifter (as needed). I don't believe that this would require any modifications to either the Flex 1500 or PowerSDR. > > This issue should not be limited to just the users of transverters. Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Re: Flex-1500 external equipment sequencingissue...
Dudley, I have had WSJT key the sequencer via the laptop serial port, and then had the sequencer apply the last event PTT to the FLEXWIRE PTT IN pin. The Flex-1500 then switched to TX, but PowerSDR did not get a PTT from WSJT, so it did not transmit any WSJT audio. So, I gathered that since PowerSDR did not get the PTT from WSJT via VSP, it ignored any audio via VAC. This can be verified easily by configuring any digital program to apply PTT via a hardware serial port, and then ground pin 4 of the FLEXWIRE jack. 73 John - Original Message - From: FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry To: John Maetta Cc: FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Sent: Friday, September 17, 2010 3:09 PM Subject: Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Re: Flex-1500 external equipment sequencingissue... Re: [Flexradio] Flex Digital Mode Filters
Tony, Yes. All you have to do is set up a transmit profile with the filter settings matching whatever receive filter you are using. For example: I normally use the 3.8 kHz filter with FLDigi. So, I created a profile named "Digital (FLDigi)" with the TX filter set to 150Hz-3950Hz. For RTTY, I am usually using MMTTY in N1MM Logger & I use a custom RX filter with limits of 1950Hz-2450Hz. So, I created a TX profile named "RTTY (N1MM)" with the same filter settings. Just gotta remember to switch the TX profile back to "DefaultDX" when I go back to SSBhi..hi. 73, Ray, K9DUR http://k9dur.info ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

John, I am no expert in sequencers, but why don't you use the digital program to key a serial port (with VSP and I presume DDUtil)directly to the sequencer and not to PowerSDR,this would start your keying process, going by your diagram. Same thing if you needed mic PTT, have the PTT key the sequencer first. 73, Dudley WA5QPZ FlexRadio Systems (512) 250-8595, Option 2 Email: dud...@flex-radio.com Web: www.flex-radio.com "Tune in excitement!" ™ On Fri, Sep 17, 2010 at 5:35 PM, John Maetta wrote: > Because I am a visual reference type person, here is how I believe the > Flex-1500 should work when using any digital mode. > It does not matter if you use it on digital HF or as an digital IF for your > VHF/UHF transverters, > > The Flex-1500 does not currently operate this way, I have tested it. > > http://www.n6vmo.com/Otherstuff/sequencerdrawing.jpg > > 73 > > John N6VMO > > > > - Original Message - > From: "John Maetta" > To: > Sent: Friday, September 17, 2010 2:59 PM > Subject: Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Re: Flex-1500 external equipment > sequencingissue... > > > > Hi Brian, > > > > That is how my TS-790 based EME digital mode system functions. > > Digital mode keys the RigBlaster via hardware comport 1, which routes PTT > > and speaker audio to the sequencer (speaker audio passes unimpeded to the > > radio's MIC). Because I am a visual reference type person, here is how I believe the Flex-1500 should work when using any digital mode. It does not matter if you use it on digital HF or as an digital IF for your VHF/UHF transverters, The Flex-1500 does not currently operate this way, I have tested it. http://www.n6vmo.com/Otherstuff/sequencerdrawing.jpg 73 John N6VMO - Original Message - From: "John Maetta" To: Sent: Friday, September 17, 2010 2:59 PM Subject: Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Re: Flex-1500 external equipment sequencingissue... > Hi Brian, > > That is how my TS-790 based EME digital mode system functions. > Digital mode keys the RigBlaster via hardware comport 1, which routes PTT > and speaker audio to the sequencer (speaker audio passes unimpeded to the > radio's MIC). Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Re: Flex-1500 external equipment sequencingissue...
Hi Brian, That is how my TS-790 based EME digital mode system functions. Digital mode keys the RigBlaster via hardware comport 1, which routes PTT and speaker audio to the sequencer (speaker audio passes unimpeded to the radio's MIC). The sequencer provides switching to the preamp, driver amp, 8877 amp and then the radio. Digital mode audio is transmitted. The problem arises when using digital modes with PowerSDR and the Flex-1500. Digital mode keys PowerSDR via virtual comport 2, PowerSDR keys the Flex-1500, digital mode audio is sent to PowerSDR via VAC. Flex-1500 FLEXWIRE PTT OUT is asserted too late for the sequencer, preamp is now toast. I have tried several different PTT combinations. Such as... Digital mode keys the RigBlaster via hardware comport 1, which routes PTT to the sequencer, the sequencer provides switching to the preamp, driver amp, 8877 amp and then the Flex-1500. The Flex-1500 transitions to transmit, but unfortunately, PowerSDR does see the virutal PTT from digital mode and consequently does not transmit WSJT audio. Now, I could setup the Flex-1500 the same way as my current traditional system. This would require me to use my laptop soundcard, MIC cable, speaker cable and the RigBlaster. But, the beauty of PowerSDR and Flex-1500 is to keep digital audio, digital. We should not have to take analog audio from the Flex-1500 headset jack and route it into the laptop, nor route laptop analog speaker audio into the Flex-1500 MIC jack. Bottom line is, that the only cable running from the laptop or PC to the Flex-1500 is the USB cable. While the sequencer is connected to the FLEXWIRE jack. In a not so distant FlexRadio future I am hopeful of the following: 1. Digital mode would key PowerSDR using virtual serial port. 2. PowerSDR would key Flex-1500, but hold off RF until FLEXWIRE PTT IN is received. 3. Flex-1500 would key sequencer with FLEXWIRE PTT OUT. 4. Sequencer does its thing and finally keys Flex-1500 FLEXWIRE PTT IN. 5. PowerSDR sees FLEXWIRE PTT IN, enables transmit and routes digital mode audio via VAC to Flex-1500. This issue should not be limited to just the users of transverters. As more Flex users add HF amplifiers to the -1500, the need to sequence keying becomes critical. It is difficult to explain what I have experienced, and I hope I don't confuse the issue. 73 John N6VMO - Original Message - From: "Brian Lloyd" To: "GI1CET" Cc: Sent: Friday, September 17, 2010 12:46 PM Subject: Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Re: Flex-1500 external equipment sequencingissue... > On Fri, Sep 17, 2010 at 9:06 AM, GI1CET wrote: > > > Joe / Tim > > > > See Bug report 3125 currently at open status. > > > > There are a number of us waiting for some indication of intent regarding > > this bug / issue as it is critical to the decision to purchase (in my case > > at least) as without a fix it's pointless trying to use the 1500 as a > > transverter driver (for higher power operation) > > > > I don't understand this. Re: [Flexradio] Flex Digital Mode Filters
Tony, Tip of the day! If you have the "Show Transmit on Display" in the SSB mode checked (this will give you two yellow lines in the Panadapter, you have check this in USB or LSB, the option does not show up in DigiU/L ) you can dynamically move the yellow transmit lines while in TX. This way you can match your TX bandwidth to your transmitted signal. 73, Dudley WA5QPZ FlexRadio Systems (512) 250-8595, Option 2 Email: dud...@flex-radio.com Web: www.flex-radio.com "Tune in excitement!" ™ On Fri, Sep 17, 2010 at 3:28 PM, Tony wrote: > Greetings all, > > Is there a way to configure the Flex 5000A digital mode transmit filters so > that they match the receive filters? > > Thanks > > Tony -K2MO > > ___ > FlexRadio Systems Mailing List > FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz > http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz > Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ > Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: > http://www.flexradio.com/ > ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

Certainly one could use the 1500 just the way it is without problems in a sequenced transverter setup. The mic PTT line is routed to the sequencer instead of the PTT input on the 1500. The sequencer is used to assert PTT going into the radio. When you key the mic it then asserts PTT into the sequencer, which then sequences all the goodies, e.g. preamp, PA, transverter, and then lastly, the 1500. Whenever I have used a sequencer that is what I have done. That works with any transceiver. I think you are complaining that you can't assert the PTT on the radio and have it routed to the sequencer yet the radio doesn't actually key up until the sequencer sends it a separate PTT signal. That is nice and it would be great if Flex did something like that. But it sure isn't standard. Martin, You must be a new Flexer. FlexRadio waits until an independent lab tests their radios and publishes those specifications rather than using manufacturer's bench numbers. John- Are you referring to a bug in the PSDR software? Is it the official released version (where a phone call is the best path)? Or a software beta version (where the other 'edge' email reflector would be appropriate)? Is this a hardware issue (where a phone call to Flex would be the correct course of action)? I'm just not familiar with the 'issue' of what you speak of. 73, Joe > From: j.mae...@verizon.net > To: FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz > Date: Fri, 17 Sep 2010 08:32:02 -0700 > Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Flex-1500 external equipment sequencing issue... > > The silence from FlexRadio is deafening... > > I ordered a 2 meter transverter at the same time I placed the order for the > 1500. The silence from FlexRadio is deafening... I ordered a 2 meter transverter at the same time I placed the order for the 1500. The transverter is expected to ship by the end of the month. When can we expect a fix of D317? I would not like to have a 1500 and a new 2 meter transverter collecting dust in my shack. 73 John N6VMO - Original Message - From: "John Maetta" To: Sent: Monday, September 13, 2010 12:30 PM Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Flex-1500 external equipment sequencing issue... > Gentlemen, > > Where in the queue is bug fix D317 and when can we expect a beta test? > Also, the fix requirements have been detailed in a previous post, has that > made it to the software engineers? > > I am still holding to my plans of using the Flex-1500 in the ARRL EME > Contest on Oct. 2 - 3 and Oct. 30 -31. > It would be very disappointing to have to wait another year. > > 73 > > John N6VMO > > - Original Message - > From: "John Maetta" > To: > Sent: Wednesday, September 08, 2010 10:24 AM > Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Flex-1500 external equipment sequencing issue... > > > > Gentlemen, > > > > In order to have the folks at FlexRadio to only have to 'fix' this bug > once, I have put together a quick document outlining the scope and > requirements. Re: [Flexradio] Flex-1500 and 3-500
It's not about QRP, because i use it as my basic RIG and put behind a PA, that what a lot people like to do, for my opinion it's not serious from a manufacture if they sell a new product, doesn't tell the costumer what specs the product has, just my 2 cents. Otherwise i'm very happy with the product, i like the SDR concept. martin Am 17.09.2010 14:16, schrieb Samuel Strongin: Ok 3 watts out real QRP kf4yox -- From: "Tim Ellison" Sent: Friday, September 17, 2010 7:37 AM To: "Martin Hertkorn" ; Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Flex-1500 and 3-500 At this time there are not any published specs, but they are within FCC specification.
