Bob,

Use TS-2000. It works perfectly with WSPR, and most software packages that
do not explicitly support PowerSDR.

[Flexradio] WSPR and PSDr

2012-09-20 Thread Michael Walker
Is anyone who is using WSPR having problems with it crashing after about 20
minutes? It works fine, then in a TX cycle it will just crash.

This is on a Flex 5000 Win 7 64.

I don't think that this is a Flex issue at all, but I thought I would
through it out there.

[Flexradio] WSPR CAT Control

2012-05-11 Thread WA3DNM

Hi:

I use VSPmgr with great success for WSPR, JT-65HF and other digi modes for my
Flex 3000A.

My setup is as follows:

In PowerSDR V2.3.5:

Open Setup, CAT Control, set CAT Control to COM6, 57600, none, 8, 1 and check
enable CAT. In the same window set PTT Control to COM7, check DTR box and
check Enable PTT box.

In VSPmgr: Create two new virtual port pairs – one pair is COM6 and COM8; the
other pair is COM7 and COM9

In WSPR,: Setup, Station Parameters: PTT Method DTR, PTT Port Com9, Cat port
- COM8, Rig number - 214 Kenwood TS-2000, 8,1,none and be sure to enable CAT
by checking the box.

That is how my Flex 3000 and WSPR work 24/7 unless I am working JT-65HF.

Hope that helps, and good luck, you will get it!

Sorry if this is a repeat of earlier postings. I have searched the past

resolution. May have deleted it at some time.

But, my problem is with WSPR. I had it working like a champ with my old
computer and earlier PSDR. Just switched to new computer and latest PSDR.
WSPR receives and decodes like always; however, I simply cannot get it to
command the PTT via CAT to transmit. I duplicated my settings from the old
lashup to no avail and tried the suggestions I found in the FlexRadio
listserv. Ditto.

Any tips on what I am missing would be much appreciated!!

Tom,
I have WSPR running on a new Windows 7 computer and my Flex 1500, with
2.3.5.
For the PTT I use vspMgr. I tried some of the other comm port programs and
had lots of trouble with computer locking up and had to go to a previous
restore point. Once I used vspMgr it works fine with WSPR and several other
digital mode programs. Hope this helps?

Re: [Flexradio] WSPR and CAT and first time use

2012-03-16 Thread Michael Walker
Hi Brian

That is interesting.

Note for other first time users that don't read the manual fully.. all the
time, like me!

If you are expecting the WSPR waterfall to start 'right away', it doesn't.
WSPR does everything based on being at the top of every even minute.

So, the first time you start up, and after that first even minute, look for
your RX noise value in the bottom left corner. Make sure that the Idle
button is NOT checked.

Slide the slider to 0 to disable transmitting.

Then, you'll see a slight waterfall of received data. Being in Panafall
also helps.

Those are some of the 'newbie' gotchas! :)

Re: [Flexradio] WSPR and CAT

2012-03-15 Thread Michael Walker
I just tested this and it worked.

2.3.5 Psdr
1.03 VSP Manager
TS2000 emulation on PSDR
Com port 4

I have to test and see if I can get it to work with DDUTIL. It 'should'.

This boils down to the fact that the PTT line can be up to 15, but the Rig
Control can only go up to Com 8.

The Wiki should get updated.

Nice catch!

Re: [Flexradio] WSPR Setup on PowerSDR and FLEX-1500

2011-09-15 Thread Steven Hess
Here is the thing we need to determine the "Fiq" We know we have the direct
conversion receiver required. Quoting the WSPR I/Q set up instructions"

"Depending on how you have wired your
SoftRock, you may or may not need to check
Reverse Rx I,Q or Reverse Tx I,Q. Mine
does not need these boxes checked. The
parameter Fiq (Hz) determines the frequency
offset between Dial frequency specified on
the WSPR main screen and the frequency
(times 1/4) of the SoftRock’s Si570
programmable oscillator. The default value
for Fiq is 12000 Hz; this puts the 200 Hz
WSPR band 12 kHz above mid-band. For
example, when operating on the 30 m band
you might set Dial frequency = 10.1387 MHz
and Fiq = 12000 Hz. These settings result
in a commanded Si570 frequency of
(10.138700–0.012000) × 4 = 40.506800 MHz."

We need to know this for the Flex-1500 and the other Flex- radios. Sorry
I am maths challenged and getting worse.

I run the frequency-hopping version of WSPR. It came out on the WSPR forum
for a bit but has never been pushed by K1JT and I have not seen it ever be
generally released.

Regardless, the band-hopping triggers the problem with WBIR. It only affects
the 1500 and doesn't bother the 3000 or 5000.

FWIW I have been running WSPR with the F1500 in 17m for days at a time

The question is .. what is different ? ( PSDR 2.2.2, VAC 4.10(p) &
WSPR 2.11 )

Yes. I am suffering with that right now. I recently asked Flex if there was
progress on fixing this problem but have not yet heard back.

Are you using the frequency-hopping version of WSPR or are you using the
regular release version that just stays on one band? In my case the problem
seems to occur when WSPR changes bands. It typically takes only 3-5 QSY's
for image rejection to completely go away requiring me to terminate and
restart PowerSDR. That happens in about 10-14 minutes.

And Flex just contacted me about the problem. Evidently they are looking
into it again.

The FLEX-1500 won't be hurt by normal digital mode operation even at full
output. It's been tested to support this duty cycle.

FYI, I've run WSPR quite a bit with the FLEX-1500. I actually prefer going
to the LOW end of the power range. I've run paths at 56mW (Power=1) and at
+3dbm (Full power from the XVTC port.) Lots of fun!

[Flexradio] WSPR or JT-65 with my 1500?

2011-05-29 Thread Michael Tondee
Sorry for the slight off topic post but today I've been a little bored
so I decided to start looking into these modes that I've been meaning to
get around to.
Which is the best for unattended or semi unattended operation while
I'm puttering around the shack doing other things? Is there a handy
setup guide for Flex somewhere in the KB? Just kind of curious in what
instance you would use which mode and what the differences are in their
intended purpose. Hate to ask here but I know their are some folks here
with knowledge of such stuff and couldn't think of a better place to go
for the info.
BTW will it hurt my 1500 to operate these modes at the full output?
Don't know what the duty cycle is.

Tnx and 73,
MIchael, W4HIJ

I'm assuming that when you say you see waterfall display you mean you see
the horizontal lines characteristic of WSPR signals? If so, then in my
experience, the most likely thing preventing decodes is receive audio that's
set too high. Try backing down on the VAC receive level.

If not, then do you have the 5000 set to the right frequency? Split mode
turned off? (Don't laugh--I once called CQ on Olivia for almost an hour with
no responses until I realized I was still in split after working a RTTY DX
pileup.)

I spent a fair bit of time getting WSPR to run. There were quite a few
pitfalls and gotchas that are not obvious. Things that are supposed to work,
don't. It took me some time to figure out a path to get WSPR to work
reliably with PowerSDR. I documented the path that works on the
FlexRadioWiki . Take a look there for the
instructions for getting it running.

Remember that WSPR interfaces to PowerSDR and not to the radio itself. That
means that the SDR-1000, Flex 5000, Flex 3000, and Flex 1500 are all the
same from that point of view. Also, it turns out that WSPR doesn't seem to
work right if you select SDR-1000. You need to use Kenwood TS-2000.

See the instructions on the Wiki.

I have used my Flex 5K on WSPR without any problems running it several
times from before dusk to after sunrise on 80M without any problems. Not
difficult to setup at all. Lately I have been running WSJT and JT65-HF
for JT65A without any problems. I have been running both currently to
compare the receiving against each other and I have found WSJT to decode
a bit better than JT65-HF although Jt65-HF is better at multi-decoding.
However, JT65-HF does have a bug that causes phantom decodes at time.
That is why I originally started using both for receive. I connect each
to F5K VAC sound output.

BTW, I have had Winwarbler, FLdigi, JT65-HF and WSJT all concurrently
receiving at same time as above use VAC with F5K and decoding different
types of modulation at the same time. Pretty cool.

I don't have a 5K (yet) but have used WSPR with my F3K (W XP) and F1500
(W 7/64). Setup was very easy using the same settings as for DM780
PSK31. For basic rig control the TS2000 setting seems to work just fine.
Fascinating mode; paths are showing up even on 10m when the the band
seems quiet. It's amazing what you can do with only a 6Hz bandwidth.

I've used WSPR on my Flex-3K., should be the same on 5K. It's pretty
much the same as using any other digital mode 3rd party software through
VAC and VSPMgr. If you haven't done digital at all yet, I'd recommend
setting up something else - PSK or RTTY first, since it will me much
faster to see if its working right than with WSPR's 2-minute cycles.

The WSPR instructions are very good, took me about an hour to set it up
and watch my 5-watt signal pop up at receivers all over the world.

I haven't gotten around to writing one yet but if you have set up for fldigi
*AND* your application port number are below 10, you should just be able to
set up WSPR.

Things to remember:

   - The com port number for CAT and PTT on the WSPR side of things must be
   less than 10, e.g. com9 OK, com10 not.
   - Configure WSPR to think it is connected to a Kenwood radio.
   - Be sure to reset the VAC port selections in WSPR every time you reboot
EVEN IF THEY LOOK RIGHT. You may have to change the VAC cable settings, end
WSPR, and then restart WSPR. Yes, this is ugly but it ensures that it works
every time for me. I have removed much of my remaining hair learning this
   little tidbit.

That should get you started.

[Flexradio] WSPR experience

2009-12-06 Thread Brian Lloyd
I wrote a week or so ago about problems I was having with WSPR and
Mack, WB4MAK, replied with his settings.

First, my original problem was that WSPR could not set the frequency
and that PTT via CAT was somewhat unreliable. The main symptom was
that every time WSPR tried to set the frequency, key, or unkey the
transmitter it would log a serial port error.

The big difference between Mack's and my configuration was PTT via CAT
(me) or a separate port pair (Mack). I tried his configuration and not
only does it key the transmitter reliably but now the frequency
setting via WSPR band selection works properly. I no longer see serial
port error messages from WSPR.

So, if you are trying WSPR 2.0 with PowerSDR (SVN PB-PAL for me --
should also work with the release version) here is what is working for
me right this instant:

VSPmgr settings:
COM5-COM6 pair, break line/restore connection enabled
COM7-COM8 pair, break line/restore connection enabled

PowerSDR settings:
CAT on port COM6, 4800baud, no parity, 8 data bits, one stop bit
PTT on port COM8 via DTR
Rig ID as: TS-2000
VAC Input: Virtual Cable 2
VAC Ouput: Virtual Cable 1

WSPR settings:
Audio In: Virtual Cable 1
Audio Out: Virtual Cable 2
PTT method: DTR
PTT port: COM7
Enable CAT
CAT port: COM5
Rig Number: 214 Kenwood TS-2000
Serial Rate: 4800
Data bits: 8
Stop bits: 1
Handshake: None

Note: When I tried to use, "Rig Number: 2301 Flex-radio SDR-1000," I
got the serial port error again. So it appears that the above settings
may be somewhat specific.

I realize this is the WSPR support list, but...

Your post intrigued me enough to get me to download and try it today.

It seems to have trouble with my virtual com ports... I'm using N8VB's
vCOM, which has never given me a bit of trouble (I use it with MixW and
HRD regularly).

Can you tell me what you're using for com port control, and/or if you
know if N8VB's vCOM doesn't work with WSPR for some reason?

[Flexradio] WSPR ver. 2.0 released, improved set-up with PowerSDR now

2009-11-23 Thread John Sweeney

Just to let those interested in WSPR by K1JT know, a new version 2.0 was
just released a few days ago.
go to website www.wsprnet.org for full information and download
information.

WSPR is now much easier set up for use with PowerSDR, as it now includes
direct PTT via CAT with PowerSDR, and also the audio set up now recognizes
the VAC cables assignments.

It is very interesting to set up WSPR on any band and see who you hear, or
who hears you, all running 1 watt or less. Amazing to see the very weak
signals that the WSPR program can decode. The DX with less than 1 watt
will knock your socks off. I have been using WSPR on 30 meters, but plan to
now try 10 meters and 80 meters.

Turn on WSPR while you go outside to walk the dog or something. Something
to see when you get back.

Scott,

Yes, I've been running WSPR on the SDR-1000 all along. I'm using VAC
at 48000 sample rate on the PowerSDR side. My PowerSDS Rx gain is set
to -18dB; I determined that value by setting the level which generally

Is it not working at all, or decoding problems, or Tx problems?

Winwarbler.

WSPR settings are Audio in 0 and Audio out 0. Don't forget to keep your

Does anyone have WSPR set up on the SDR1000 running? I can't seem to get it
working.

Any config on WSPR and VAC that you can share would be helpful.

Thanks
