brand-spanking-new fundraising collection is now available with more than
60 films from Experiments in Cinema.

into our programming. This year, in addition to screening approximately 100
films from 35 countries, We also have a great lineup of special guests...
Included in the lineup will be Chip Lord (Ant Farm) and Hayden Pedigo, Oona
Mosna (Media City), Kyros Kikos (Videoex), Adam Hyman (LA Filmforum), Tommy
Becker, Craig Baldwin (Other Cinema), Leslie Raymond (Ann Arbor Film

[Frameworks] Experiments in Cinema fundraising DVD collection now available!

2018-06-27 Thread bryan konefsky
Hi everyone - it was a challenging year for Basement Films to produce what
turned out to be an amazing edition of our Experiments in Cinema
international film festival. To this end we FINALLY mastered our annual
fundraising DVD collection which is an 8 disc set available at
www.experimentsincinema.org (click on Shop EIC). We have the collections
available at individual and institutional prices. Additionally there are
still T shirts and tote bags available from our most recent (v13.6)
edition. Know that our festival is produced by an all volunteer staff so
all proceeds from the purchase of our fundraising DVD collection go right
back to helping us produce our annual event.

Thanks everyone for your support. Also, if you go to our website and click
on "About" then click on "donate" you can make tax deductable donations to
our non-profit!

[Frameworks] Experiments in Cinema NEW 9 disc DVD collection plus Cuban yearbook

2017-05-12 Thread bryan konefsky
Hi everyone - thanks to all who participated and supported the 12th edition
of Experiments in Cinema! The event was particularly historic as we
brought 5 Cuban film scholars to our event from Havana AND their
presentations were nothing short of magical!

I wanted to let everyone know that if you go to our website (
http://www.experimentsincinema.org/shop--cart) you will find our new 9
disc, fundraising DVD collection which is available for individual and
institutional purchases - many Cuban titles are included in the
collection. Additionally, our new yearbook is available with essays about
the state of the (media) art in Cuba - the yearbook has been published 1/2
in English and 1/2 in Spanish.

Be the first on your block to collect all DVD collections and each of our 3
yearbooks!

Thanks for supporting Experiments in Cinema

It's happening again BABY!!! Experiments in Cinema v12.3 takes place at the
Guild Cinema and 516 Arts in Albuquerque April 18-23. This year, in
addition to screening 100+ films from 38 countries, we will host 5 Cuban
artist/scholars (Nestor Siré, Yainet Rodriguez, Magaly Espinosa, María de
Lourdes Mariño Fernandez, Caridad Blanco de la Cruz) who will present - a
first-time-ever in the (un)United States - a comprehensive look at Cuban
alternative media practices. Additionally, we have artist/scholars Sam Jury
and Kamila Kuc comin' in from the UK to present a program titled Disasters
of Peace (along with their compadres Sarah Goldstein and Steven Bridges)
AND radical media guru Gene Youngblood will present a program that takes a
close and careful look at George Kuchar's diary films - this program is
titled Tarnished Angel). All this and much, much more - This year the
entire festival will be dedicated to my dear, dear Patti (see letter from
the director in the printed program). Hey, any of you hep-kats who might
like to receive a hard copy of our festival program, just send an email to

[Frameworks] Experiments in Cinema fundraising DVDs and yearbooks available for your bookshelves!

2016-08-04 Thread bryan konefsky
Hi everyone - In addition to having our call for submissions now open at
http://www.experimentsincinema.org/#!submissions/c1xio, I'd like to remind
you that because our festival is run by a 100% volunteer crew, we do depend
on "the kindness of strangers" to make it happen every year. To this end
one of the ways that we raise funds to support the costs of producing
Experiments in Cinema is by selling merchandise which can be found at
http://www.experimentsincinema.org/#!shop--cart/c1op5. In particular I'd
like to highlight the two yearbooks we have published (Undependently Yours:
Imagining a World Beyond the Red Carpet, Experiments in She-ness: Women and
Undependent Cinema) and our fundraising DVD collections (the DVD
collections go back to our 4th edition when we began producing the discs).
I'd like to thank all the artists and writers who have contributed their
work to the texts and DVDs as it is a clear and generous expression of
their support of our efforts. If any of you might teach, perhaps you would
be interested in asking your institutions library if they might be willing
to purchase our books/DVDs. We have already placed our materials at
universities such as Emerson, Pacific University, U of Cincinatti,
Northwestern, UT San Antonio, Sarah Lawrence, Bennington and in Europe at
Image Movement in Berlin.

Thanks for your support!

Re: [Frameworks] how to power a projector mounted on a rotating device

Hey Scott and all - regarding rotating turntables that include rotating AC
- see this link:

I've purchased several over the years and they are fantastic... I suspect
if you add a rheostat you could also change the rpms of the unit.

[Frameworks] Basement Films is being evicted from the studio we have occupied for 20+ years - help!

2016-04-21 Thread Bryan Konefsky
Hello everyone - on the heels of another very successful Experiments in
Cinema festival Basement Films has been informed by our landlord, the
Harwood Art Center, that we are being evicted from our studio/archive that
we have occupied for 20+ years in Albuquerque. The really crappy part is
that we only have 30 days to vacate our 2000 square foot space. This
studio/archive is not only where we work and create but it also housed a
culturally important collection of more than 8000 16mm films (the largest
collection of educational films in the southwest). Presently we are asking
for an extension of time to vacate our studio AND we are also looking for
someone who might be interested in a way-big tax write off. That is, we
are hoping to find 2000+ square feet of space donated to our non- profit in
exchange for a substantial tax deduction Additionally you should be
hearing soon about a Kickstarter style campaign that we will stage to help
raise funds for the move.

Thanks (in advance) for your help and well wishes!

Film festivals have had varied and complex histories starting with Benito
Mussolini's invention of the form in Venice in 1932. Since then (and too
often) festivals are thought of in terms of Hollywood's film industry. This
text is a celebration of all things un-dependently cinematic. The essays
contained in this volume explore the cultural value of alternative film
festivals from a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Contributors
to this book include Gene Youngblood, Sasha Waters Freyer, Roger Beebe,
Michael Betancourt, Charles Lum, Caryn Cline, Alexie Dmitriev, Clint Enns,
Leslie Supnet, Chip Lord, Ben Popp, Kristen Lauth Shaeffer, Tina Wasserman,
Gerry Fialka, Kamila Kuc, Steve Polta, Bryan Konefsky, Caroline Koebel, and
Bart Weiss.

  Dear Frameworkers,

A small group of students and alumni are programing an American Indian

 This

I'm reaching out to all of you for suggestions as we finalize our
programming in the next coming weeks.

The program covers a range of forms and techniques and any suggestions
  will
be appreciated and looked at. We are specifically looking for work made
 by
American Indian and Indigenous peoples, not simply about.

Programs will be arranged around such topics as:
The Construction of Knowledge in Ethnographic Film Practices
The Preservation and Conservation of Indigenous Land and Rights
  Contemporary Indigenous Art and Crafts
Personal Narratives and Histories on the Reservation.

As the event draws closer I'll send out the program details for those
interested in the Southern California and Los Angeles area.

Thank you for any help and suggestions.

2013-05-12 Thread Bryan Konefsky
Hello Frameworkers - please know that our 7 disc (wow - 7 discs!)
fundraising DVD collection from Experiments in Cinema v8.53 is now
available at our website along with T shirts and tote bags.

See www.experimentsincinema.com for ordering information and a list of
artists' works on the collection.

Additionally, we still have plenty of fundraising DVD collections available
from our previous festivals ready and waiting to be shipped!

We are always way-thankful to all the artists who donate their works to
these fundraising DVD collections as Basement Films (sponsor of Experiments
in Cinema) is a 100% volunteer run micro-cinema, so all proceeds go
directly to ensuring that the next version of Experiments in Cinema WILL
happen.

Our next call for submissions will be up on our website in early August
(FYI).

Last, if anyone is interested in receiving a copy of our program from EIC
v8.53 please send me your mailing address and I will ship one out to ya!

Hi, I'm not sure if this film has been mentioned, but I have always been
haunted by the slide projection sequence in the early moments of Rabbit

There's a famous Laurel and Hardy film (whose name I forget at the

Not about film, per se, but in the 1920s the expansion of relatively
inexpensive autos created a certain moral panic around cars as mobile
bedrooms for young people who could escape being chaperoned.

2012-04-27 Thread Bryan Konefsky
Hi all - we just posted our brand-spanking new 4 DVD
collectoin of fundraising discs on our website -
www.experimentsincinema.com - We are really excited about
this collection - and know that Basement Films (the
non-profit that produces Experiments in Cinema) is a 100%
volunteer-run organization so all proceeds from these
fundraising DVD sales goes directly to ensure that our
2013 festival will happen!! The list of artists on the
discs is on the website AND please be honest when
purchasing - in other words if you are purchasing
primarily for institutional use, click on that button when
purchasing - everyone else purchase the discs at the
individual price.

Also, we posted tote bags from v6.3 and v7.9 - they're
pretty cool and locally (Albuquerque) silk screened).

Thanks again to everyone who made Experiments in Cinema
v7.9 the amazing success that it was!

2011-09-07 Thread Bryan Konefsky
Hey ya'll - we've seen a wonderfully encouraging flood of
submissions in the short month that our call has been
out... This note is to remind domestic artists that our
early bird deadline (lower submission fee) ends October
1 - So, please-please don't delay... However, do know that
we will accept submissions through December 1, 2011 - the
fee between Oct 1 and Dec 1 is slightly higher, but not
outrageously.

see www.experiments in cinema.com for submission info.
If you have questions please email us at

all the best and we look forward to seein' your stuff!!!
