Apologies if this has already been answered, but the (temporary, I
hope) solution to this problem is an app called 'end hanging
disconnect'. You could Google or check versiontracker for it.
Doesn't always work first time - I always have to run it twice - but
at least much better than restarting.

Good luck.

Does Pismo need a firmware updater before OSX?

2004-09-09 Thread kaldav
Hello,
On the Apple website section concerning powerbook G3s, there was a
discussion of upgrading a Pismo to run Panther. Mention was made of a
required firmware update for the Powerbook FireWire M7572 a.k.a.
Pismo. Where would I find this firmware updater and the requirements
for running it?
Thank you.

Hi:
I've a Powerbook 1GHz 17 (I've had it for about a year now) and the
trackpad drives me nuts. The cursor is always jumping all over the
place and when I turn on the ignore while typing I get the delay as
you have described below. I'm more used to it now and I guess I've
trained my hands to stay far away from the keypad while I type as it
happens less frequently now. Have never had this problem on any other
Powerbook/iBook prior to this one. Sheesh.

the rep told him they were going to be releasing an internal airport

I suspect that this problem probably has to do with the phone

That sounds like a loose keyboard connector. Time to call AppleCare,
since in the Al series the kb isn't user-serviceable, iirc.

 Hello All,

Machine is AlPB 1.33 GHz, 1.5 GB Ram, running OS X 10.3.5

Had this a few weeks ago but it recovered by itself. Now it's back
again. No response from my keyboard. My wireless keyboard works
allright so I don't think it's a software problem. Any suggestions or
is it time to approach AppleCare?

That sounds like a loose keyboard connector. Time to call AppleCare,
since in the Al series the kb isn't user-serviceable, iirc.

Is the keyboard in the new Aluminum PowerBooks similar to the older G3
Series? e.g., can you just lift it up and check for a loose connection from
the keyboard ribbon cable? They don't seem to be exactly the same because,
on my PB17, I don't see the little switch to release the keyboard

I guess I'm just trying to suggest the original poster to see if he can
check for a loose keyboard ribbon cable before making the call (and possibly
the trip) to AppleCare and being out of his PowerBook for some time...

-Laurent.

I just came across this in a thread by accident somewhere;
sysctl hw.cpufrequency
I entered it via the terminal and came up with a speed? of 667 on my
1gHz titanium powerbook.
I get 500 on my 500mhz.

I certainly hope they release it as the faster 802.11g.

It would be nice but very unlikely. The card would still have to be
a more or less PC Card, non-CardBus. It's not going to be able to
handle 54MBps. There is also the software issue.

It will probably sell for $79, but with the legendary D-Link rebates, it
will likely cost $39 in a few months!

Hi all

ok help and advice needed.

I currently use an orinoco gold card for wireless on my lombard and have on
the way a belkin wireless card for use on a second laptop. has anyone used
one of these belkin cards and if so what drivers do they use,as the drivers
that you get with them are PC only.
also what other wireless cards can be used on macs running 9 and 9.2 The
macs in question are a 3400 and a wallstreet 300mhz.

Rather than repeat information that has been mentioned on the list
repeatedly, I like to suggest you email list member Ken Vann
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and ask him to email you his wireless FAQ,
which he will do for free. It has more good information than you can
imagine.

If that doesn't answer all, or most, of your questions give the list
another shout. But you'll be surprised what you'll learn from Ken's
FAQ.

HTH,

Bob

Re: True Processor Speed

2004-09-09 Thread larry Zasitko
My Aluminum Powerbook is a 1.33 ghz and if I type in the line in

I read a lot of back and forth ( most posts were from 2003 ) some
people said resetting the PMU made the number more accurately reflect
the actual listed speed (do not want to do this). Others said that
this
would not return an accurate number no matter what. Some said it was
totally worthless as any sort of indicator. Some said running XBench
is
a far better guide. This I did. Great results.

As I previously said most of these posts were from late 03, I wanted
to
inquire as to whether or not anyone else has experienced conflicting
numbers with ill effect or otherwise found that this is a generally
meaningless issue.

Any and all info is appreciated.
Thanks.
