Jaguar needs 128 megs and I think Panther needs 256 megs.

I say try it anyway. . .Mac OS X usually "changes" during boot-up.

if it does boot on the iBook, but doesn't have the resources, then
simply download the newest update and see if that works. Your iBook

AFAICT, in OS X, all components are installed. They might not be all
active,
but they should be all there. For example, if the battery menu is not
installed, you would probably need to open it by double-clicking on it
in
'/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras'.

So far I found these pages and am reading them. It looks like without

I would like to install os9 over firewire because the ibook's CD ROM
player is dead.

I have an ibook 500 (which I am returning) but I would like to give it
another chance as the price was so dandy!

I went out and bought a firewire cable and successfully mounted the
ibook on the emac's desktop; however, after installing os 9, an
original cd that came with the first version of OS, resulted in an
ibook that won't start.

Do I need original ibook CDs?

replacement drive for dual usb ibook 500

2005-01-19 Thread Alex Santos 100MB Neostrada Mail
Does anyone know which drive, brand and model number apple used in the
dual usb ibook g3?

It looks like my cd ROM drive bit the bullet and I want to replace it
with a drive 100% compatible. I would also like a drive I can have the
plastic silver plate put back on easily without any modification.

An Apple branded replacement drive is insanely expensive hence my
search.

Hi folks.
I'm on a Pismo 500, running OS X (10.3.4). The only non-stock stuff
I've got on it is another RAM stick (256), a Toshiba 60 Gig HD, and a
LG CD-RW/DVD drive in the expansion bay.
Something hinky is going on. Starting about a half hour ago, if I
move
my laptop while it's running, it powers off, instantly. Black screen,
totally dead. It'll boot back up (sometimes I have to hit the power
button a few times) but everytime it does, the clock's been reset to
mid 1969. I figure something's come loose inside, but what? And what
do
I do about it?

Maybe the processor daughtercard or the battery contact inside.

Just popped it open and reseated them both, but it's still happening.
Snarf. This rots. Any other ideas?

Re: I need some ideas/help

2004-10-09 Thread Alex Santos 100MB Neostrada Mail
You may want to try opening Disk Utility in OSX and asking it to repair
permissions in OS9. You can find the command in the File menu.

mostly, they can't
