Esync I believe. However, I had mixed results with it and I can't try

Sync Mac to iDen/Nextel phones?

2005-10-03 Thread Sam
Does anyone have any tips for syncing contacts from Entourage or Apple Mail
to the phone book of a Nextel iDen phone? I'm specifically using a Motorola
i850 and a Pismo running OS 10.4.2.

Motorola has a Windows-based iDen phonebook manager which will download the
phonebook, and that file can be opened up in MS Access which invites some
CSV file opportunities, but there is some coding in the phonebook file that
I'm not sure what to do with.

Even if there's something to sync from Windows Outlook or Outlook Express to
the iDen phone - I can deal with that if I have to. (Mac to Windows to
phone.)

Any tips, experience or pointers to sources of info would be most
appreciated.

-Sam

Re: Palm Pilot Verizon sync

2005-06-15 Thread Emery Stora

From: Harry Corsover <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Synchronizing Treo 650
Date: Tue, 14 Jun 2005 22:35:18 -0600

I just ordered a Treo 650 as an upgrade to my Kyocera 7135 smart
phone (which will be for sale, if anyone is interested).

I couldn't get many details from Verizon Wireless about how this
phone syncs with Macs. I've been using Palm Desktop (I've never used
iCal) to sync via USB, but the Treo has Bluetooth as well as a
version of Palm OS.

Has anyone been using a Treo 600 or 650 and syncing it with a Mac?
I'd appreciate hearing about your experience.

Thanks!

Regards,

Harry Corsover

I have done this with the 7135. First you must have Palm Desktop
installed on your computer (free download from the Palm site). Version
4.2.1 works well for OSX10.3.9 (I will install Tiger this weekend).
Hook a cable from the phone to the USB port on the computer (I actually
have a serial plug on the cable that I run through a Keyspan USA 19HS
serial to USB adapter (I also use this adapter for my Garmin GPS and
with a reader for my fuel injection system on my motorhome). On the
Kyocera phone get the menus on the screen and push on the HotSync icon.
Then hit the sync icon and it will sync the comupter Palm Pilot and
the Kyocera Palm Pilot in just seconds.

Kevin,
Take a look at SilverKeeper. I've been using it for about a year.
Support was great, especially considering its free. I got a response
the same day as my question.

I use it for backup, but a quick read of the manual shows it has the
capability to sync a folder between computers.

Let me know how you like it if you give it a try.

Re: sync

2005-04-05 Thread Tim Collier
I use sort of a round-about way of doing this.and all it syncs is
Entourage calendars and contacts as well as various documents, but
Missing Sync (www.markspace.com) works really well with most PDA's.
Sync to the PDA from the laptop then sync it with the G5 iMac and
everything is the same on both. Also using iSync with a .Mac account
will 'sort of' do the same. I know this is not really the answer you
are looking for but it's a beginning. Hopefully Tiger will help us
deal with this issue.

I use "File Synchronization". You can clone folders, copy one way or both
ways or select single files to keep synced. You can have it delete orphaned
files or not. I've been using it between my AlBook and my G4 tower for about
a year with no problems.

Your mac problem lies in the fact that the box states you have to have
OS X 10.1 or later. I have a 366 iBook too, and though I have not
tried to synch my iPod because it synchs with the iMac I have, I am
running the latest OSX. See about upgrading. That might solve it.

Secondly, is the windows machine on Win 2000 with service pack 4 or
higher?

have to pay for that Apple was so slow getting USB-2 and because they

Synchronizing has always been problematic. The only application that runs on
OS 9 that is still available is "Newton Connection Utilities" from Apple.
You can get a copy from <http://www.unna.org/>. For a much more lively
discussion about the Newton, please join the NewtonTalk mailing list at

I use a Belkin USB Bluetooth adapter with my iBook 500 in x.2.6 without any

Maybe try the Irda thing again, it would save lugging 2 different adapters

IRdA isn't supported on the WallStreet under OS X. Odd since it is
supported in, I think, the TiBook.
I can't say for sure, and right now that I don't have a Wallstreet at
hand to check, by I think I once used IRDA on OS X ; at least it
appears in the network ports. Didn't use it much, because the cost of
GPRS in Portugal, where I live, is prohibitive; but I can at least
attest that it worked ok under OS 9.

I did try it with my Visor but found out later that it isn't
supported. Ah, it was problematic at best under OS 9.

Not having a phone of that type, I can't help with specific steps. However,
make sure you have the syncing software directed to the IR port on the Mac.

Assuming the Ericsson is programmed to "know" a Mac when it sees one, than
you should be able to sync with it.

Is there software with the Ericsson that you can use on the Mac to make sure
the Mac can I/F with the Ericsson?

A very handy control strip module is HotSyncCSM. It allows you to turn
HotSync on or off as needed from the control strip. I use it with my Visor
Deluxe and iBook/iMac and have always gotten great results. You can find it
here http://mac.tucows.com/preview/7864.html

Absolutely. I'm running OS 9.1. I went to all the
trouble of isolating extensions and had it down to the
base OS 9.1 set and the one for the Hotsync (I've
forgotten which one it is, but Palm tech help verified
it was the right one, and that it was the problem.)

Just be careful about leaving Hotsync on all the time
- it can keep your powerbook from going to sleep after
a specified time period, and can put more wear on your
hard drive as it will periodically spin the drive up
if you leave your PB unattended. For that reason, I
only turn Hotsync on when I need it.

At first I had to restart hotsync to get the initial communication. Now
I've tried leaving it enabled, and it does indeed recognize the palm within
range.

However, it seems to keep trying to sync over and over again, eventually
getting stuck on the "One Moment Please" window. Also, the Palm gets the
flashing "waiting for sender" message as soon as I turn it on (haven't even
tapped on the hotsync yet).

Just tried it again and got an error on the palm- it didn't get all the info
(connection was broken).

Anyway, when I just start up hotsync each time after I've hit hotsync on the
palm, it works like a charm. My setup may have a quirk in it... oh well,
it's working nonetheless.

Well I saw the "additional purchase necessary" note for Mac users on the

experience with any type of handheld.

But it was relatively painless, and I've been synching again tonight without

Re: Sync Palm to Powerbook

Yep. I have the same setup (Pismo and Palm Vx). My office gave me the Vx a
few weeks ago and I went out and spent the extra cash on the Palm Connect
Kit the same day. Fortunately for me, the IR solution hit me before I even
opened the kit. After my first IR sync, which went smooth as silk, I
promptly took the Palm Connect Kit back to the store for a refund.

The whole process with syncing couldn't have been easier, and as an added
bonus -- I was already using the latest version of Palm Desktop, so I didn't
even have to install any software... and all my contacts and other data were
installed right onto my Palm.

Sync Palm to Powerbook

2001-07-17 Thread Taylor Armstrong

Hey folks,

Just FYI.

Found a new site going up for Palm and Mac stuff. It is here:

http://www.palmonmac.com/index.php

I found this because I have become a new palm user as of last night. I won't post all
the details of my discoveries here, but you can find some of them on this new site
listed above. (Or if there is enough interest I will post here).

I expected weeks of trial and error getting my new Palm Vx to share information with
my Pismo. But it only took a few hours of research (macfixit and palm sites) and then
set up. Most importantly, I found you don't need to buy an extra Palm connect Kit for
Macintosh ($40 for USB Macs). You can use the built-in infrared on your Mac.

Apologies for those of you who already know all this. But even Palm tells you in the
box that you need to buy these extra kits to sync with a Mac. This is just not true
(as long as you have IR on your Mac).

Sent in the hopes of saving someone from making an unnecessary investment,

Tate
