what about custom cars.
ie we start with a lump sum of cash.
With this cash we can buy the components to build a basic car.
or just get a basic car.
as we win more races and things we can upgrade our car's parts.
This adds an actual challenge before the game can begin and all
through the game.

Re: [Audyssey] Changes to the Sarah game

2007-09-25 Thread Dark
Hi Phil.

Will my old registration codes etc work for the full install? While I will
probably patch the version of Sarah I've got on my desktop, I do like to
keep a saved copy of the actual game installer for backup purposes just in
case my computer explodes and I have to re-enstall everything. should that
happen, as thom says, it'd be much quicker installing one new version than
my old original copy of the set up file and patching it again.

Thanks Phil.

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-25 Thread Dark
Well, it is literally months sinse I last played, but it's nice to get back
onto the Sryth forum and have a chat with everyone.

One advantage of being away for so long though, is that there's now so much
new stuff for Ekitrina to do, it's lmost like playing a hole new Rpg. One
disadvantage is that from being one of the top four or five characters in
the game, she's gone right down!

I think I'll have to buy her some Ag tocans to compensate, - especially
as her Mr is currently slightly low. (and I don't mind contributing to the
game anyway).

Yes probably.. however did you have the fs uic installed? If not, if you
look at the top of the pm sound screen it says a error because it could not
find the fs uic. I noticed that with mine ust as a test.

Hi Thomas,

Well I got ten out of ten in Hangman using the regular word list. I did
however miss one on the adult list so went 9 for 10 on it.

BTW If you are still ticked, I've got another challenge for you.

250 swats with an average reaction time of .4064 seconds
for a total score of 61520.

That is my all time record though. I didn't just do that this morning.

Re: [Audyssey] Message to the list.

2007-09-25 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Tristan,

Thank you very much for saying that you think that my games are great.

I am sorry, but I don't get the idea of a Kitchen's Classics series. I mean
other than the recorded speech games one can just have all of the text to
speech games that they want in the Kitchensinc folder. Heck you can even have
them all in there and just pick and play the one that you want.

BTW As I said, you can copy either Pong or Mach 1 into the kitchensinc folder,
but do not put them both in there as there are files with the same names in
those games and it will cause one or the other game not to run if you do that.

Re: [Audyssey] Games under Vista

2007-09-25 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

Yes, the multiple user does not effect me at this time, but there is also
another difference. You are working on beta versions of a game or three, I
would have to go back and rewrite that part for 25 games, recompile them,
repackage them, up load them to my site, rewrite my web site and finally
announce all 25 new versions. Now I might think about trying it on a new game
that I am working on, but I am not sure how that is going to work out for
people running Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP or Vista.

The first gemstone is in the first Silver Crest adventure, but it can be
easy to miss. When you get to Fulbrak's farm, you have the choice of
exploring the pasture or exploring the woods. Explore the woods to find the
monster's nest. Kill the monster and reach into the nest. Again, it can be
quite easy to miss that one since a lot of people tend to just explore the
pasture.

Re: [Audyssey] Checkers

2007-09-25 Thread Dark
Hi Jim.

In the Uk, the game is called Draughts. It's therefore available on their
forth Cd. I'm afraid I haven't bought any of their games though, so other
than the downloadable backgammon, I'm not sure what their like.

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

2007-09-25 Thread Michael Feir
The Checkers game is on volume four of the Azabat games. It's called
Draughts in the UK which is where your confusion stemns from I think, Jim.
Also on that cd are Backgammon, Dominos and Scrazabat which is Scrabble.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
I see. I wonder if one of those things is pulling the sword out of the
sorting hat. That was of course one of the cooler moves in Deathly

I don't want to spoil seven for those who have not read it, but perhaps
you have added it's special ability of destroying certain undesirable
objects?

Hey Thomas, well I prefer counter clockwise, but either will actually be fine.
As far as the weird shaped tracks, NASCAR has the road courses and while not a
big fan of road courses, they are apart of NASCAR and feel that they do add

Yes probably.. however did you have the fs uic installed? If not, if you
look at the top of the pm sound screen it says a error because it could not
find the fs uic. I noticed that with mine ust as a test.

Hi Shaun,
That is a good suggestion, but one I will have to consider carefully. In
order to carry out this custom stock car idea I need to research how
this is done in Nascar.
It is my understanding it is the sponcer who provides the car, service,
and so on. The driver then wins the prize money if he/she wins.

Re: [Audyssey] Games under Vista

2007-09-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,
Actually, solving the issue with User Account Control is quite easy, and
there are ways of doing it so it is backward compatible with 98, ME, XP,
etc.
The first way is to simply save data to the Application Data folder
rather than your applications local directory.
Every Windows operating system has a series of environment variables
which get initialised at login. One of these %APPDATA% is used for
getting the user's local Appplication Data folder.
On older operating systems like 98 the %APPDATA% environment variable
returns the
c:\Windows\Application Data folder.
On newer operating systems like Vista the %APPDATA% environment variable
returns the user's
c:\Users\User\App Data folder.
Which is on the user's local path.
So if you have your game create a
"%APPDATA%\\Kitchensinc"
directory you can save your settings and saved games to
"%APPDATA%\\Kitchensinc"
which solves User Account Control, and makes your games work with
multiusers all at the same time.
The alternative method is to store data to the user's
HKEY_Current_User
hive in the registry. While good for applications settings etc I don't
recommend saving games to the registry though.
Anyway, you'd have to figure out how this is done in VB 6, but it was
not very hard to do in C# .Net, and Visual Basic .Net also has a very
easy solution to this issue.

That explains it. *grin* There's probably no way to go back and recover the

The first gemstone is in the first Silver Crest adventure, but it can be
easy to miss. When you get to Fulbrak's farm, you have the choice of
exploring the pasture or exploring the woods. Explore the woods to find the
monster's nest. Kill the monster and reach into the nest. Again, it can be
quite easy to miss that one since a lot of people tend to just explore the
pasture.

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway tracks.

2007-09-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Actually, Raceway is largely going to be based on a Nascar type game.
you will be competing for prize money and the USA Racing Cup. Each game
will earn you certain point values which are totally identical to the
Nascar points system.
I don't want to add things like road courses and cross country type
racing since it is not going to be that kind of game. You will be racing
on tracks in a seasonal circuit like Nascar.
Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] Changes to the Sarah game

2007-09-25 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Tom,
Pulling it out of the sorting hat would be strange since the sword is right
beside the hat in the headmaster's office.
As to your other idea that is what I did although by taking the sword off
the wall should not give it the power to do what you said.
But I have stretched the rules of the Wizarding World somewhat in this game
already so a little more should not be too much.
For example I added the effect that a wand holds a certain number of some
spells and each spell takes some magical energy which you need to keep track
of.
Other than that one use for the sword it would be nice to have the sword be
able to break several items in the game.
I thought of,
1. windows
2 hour glasses
3 potion bottles
4 sherry bottles
5 suits of armor
I have not checked out how difficult this would be to code.

Phil

Re: [Audyssey] adrift

I use Adrift 3.9 and 4.0 and in most cases just review the screen with
the mouse pointer and it works fine. If I want 100% text reading
accuracy, I just play the games in a Linux command line console with
speakup as the screen reader and it works, but even the Windows versions
with Window-Eyes work very well.

[Audyssey] fs navigator assistance

2007-09-25 Thread Scott Shade
Hello all. Okay, you have to use your jaws cursor a lot in jfw for this or
your wineyes cursor in win-eyes. Under help or options, I can't remember
specificly witch, there is a place to put in your name and registration code
for fsnavigator. Yes, you need to have fsuipc.dll in the modules folder of
flight sim. The procedure here for everything to work together is as
follows. this assumes that you have everything installed and ready to go.
After starting your pc and your good to go do this.

1. Start pm sounds. You may or may not get any feed back on this.
Possibly depending on the screen reader in use, you may get the name of the
file in pm sounds at the top of the list. In either case, it takes only a
couple seconds to load. This can be verified by seeing it in the task bar.
Once you know that that has been loaded go to step two.

2. Load flight sim, this will also load fsuipc as its in its modules
folder.

3. Once that is up and running, then set your options according to what you
want in the program. Now for the fun stuff.

Jfw will give you your most workable read in most cases in the program
though the trick is to tab and shift tab back and forth a bit in the flight
creation pannels and flightplan windows. Window-eyes more correctly reads
some of the buttons in their propper form, though it can't get some of the
text of list views and stuff like that. Irronicly when I was having trouble
with my disappearing fsnav window in jaws I ran it with system access and
found that it gives a farely good read in flight. Though some information
is missing. However, it was next to useless in the dialogs for flight
creation and simi functional in the flightplan window itself. Other than
that, its just been trial and error for me finding what works under specific
conditions. Happy flying all. Take care,
Scott

Re: [Audyssey] Changes to the Sarah game

2007-09-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Phil,
Oh, I see. yeah, the concept of using the sword to destroy things around
the castle would be rather cool. Though I don't think Sarah is
necessarily the type of character who would go around vandalising' the
school property.
As for spells currently my favorite is the stunning spell. It is rather
funny stunning Peves. I like to here him when he is screwed up from the
stun.
By the way, when I cast a patronis spell what type of patronis does
Sarah have? That hasn't been answered as far as I am aware of.Have you
thought of what animal her Patronis takes the shape of?

Hey all

It is certainly still alot of fun playing Sryth. Though I too am
 finding
it's getting fairly tough to get enough xp to train skills/powers.
 Wish
 I
could have won that drawing that happened but at least got some xp
 bonus
 out
of it. Did anyone ever get the quest where you apparently need level
 70on
those 4 skills/powers to open the door? The one on the island that is.

 Hello Bryan.

This e-mail has had a surprising effect! you've finally got me to get
 up
 and
star playing sryth once again! there's so many new features, it's
 almost
like a brand new game, but at the moment, sinse I haven't been playing
 for
 a
long time, Ekitrina is slightly overwhelmed, and in need of more Ag
 tocans
and Xp, I also need to renew my subscription, which is a pain, sinse at
 the
moment my creddit card appears to have stopped working, I'll have to go
 to
the bank tomorrow and see what I can do. then I'll probably be donating
 to
Sryth, in order for Ekitrina to at least stand her own again, even if
 she's
not going to be quite up at the end of the rankings she occupied
 previously
(as I said, it's the questing i enjoy anyway).

Oh, and as to the forum, my account seems to have auto deleted itself,
 and
 I
had to ask Havoc of the Sryth forum to create a new one for me (which
 he
 has
 now done).

 Beware the Greu!

Dark, or as I am on the sryth forum, Darkempathy.

Subject: [Audyssey] fs navigator assistance

Take care,
Scott

If you can get level seventy even in just one of those powers or skills
you'll be fine. I think what that rhyme just means is that there's more than
one way into the tomb. As a reward you get the second, or first if you
didn't get the other one, gem for the Sword of Merzekk.

How would the payed testing work.
With all the currencies, etc as they are, and me having no direct
credit card option, I am not keen about paying for a monthly test type thing.
But probably one off payments per project would be ok.

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway tracks.

2007-09-25 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi Tom

As for the direction of the track I don't really see alot of difference in
game play, though that could be largely due to my lack of experience with
racing games.
As for styles of tracks, I do think it will add some variety to the game,
instead of always right turn, hard right, there might be something like a
easy left turn, right turn hard left or some such. Mixing it up some is a
good idea.
