Re: [Audyssey] Monty limits - Re: Monty top score.
Hi, Quote Alright, but it would force you to go backwards in the game if you need some more swords. That would definitely increase the complexity and you'd need more strategy skills. End quote Exactly, and at the moment there has been little need to back track. Though, the possability has been mentioned in the manual. Here is what the manual says in Section 1.3 about general game play. Maybe you'll need to backtrack through certain chambers. Or perhaps forge ahead blindly. Even test your memory to remember the location of a room you fought through earlier. Just be sure to keep a cool head. Use your special tools wisely. And please - try not to let greed blind you as you snatch up Montezuma's fabulous treasures. The classic Montezuma's Revenge did offer an element of strategy when to use a magic amulet or when to use a sword. neither could you have allot of at the same time so you had to use them wizely, and if you needed one and ran out you had to go back and get one. FYI, in the USA Games version of the game the magic potions replaced the amulets in case you were wondering. Quote Also, the fact that I sometimes die right before the end of a level kind of annoys me. I've been thinking about a system where you will be put back to halfway through the level if you die after a certain point. That would safe you from a lot of walking. smile End quote Yeah, but that isn't cannon for classic arcade games. As you may recall games like Mario Brothers, Packman, Double Dragon, etc put you back at the beginning of the level you didn't complete. In this way Montezuma's Revenge has retained it's original atari origens. Hi, I see your point. Something like GMA's Tank Commander targeting system might work. Where you have to raise and lower the barrel of your rifle, pistal, grenade launcher, etc until it is square on the monsters weekest spot and fire. Assuming we have a monster spider that is 15 feet tall and the belly area is at 8 feet. You would have to raise your gun to 8 feet and it would have to be in range before it would aquire a lock. Shadow Dragon wrote: Not entirely true. What you could do is have the spider walking around in stereo, and when you're locked onto it it makes a sound of some kind, like a beep, but when you're locked onto the vulnerable spot the beep increases in pitch. It wouldn't be too hard given the size of the creature, and we've already seen examples of 3d gun movement. It'd be very challenging, but I'm almost certain something like it could be done. I don't know anything about programming physics or 3d environments, but I do know from experience that almost anything conveyed through imagery can be conveyed through audio or force feedback. Just my thoughts on the matter though. Re: [Audyssey] realistic physics in raceway
Hi Claudio, Realistic physics means that the car in the game will react properly to real world physics and mechanics. For example, think of what happens when you are driving down the strait away at 200 MPH and hit the breaks. Does the car just stop? No, it will slide and skid along ways down the track before it comes to a stop. The only way you can accurately predict how far it will slide is by calculating the known laws of physics applied to that car. For example, in algebra we were all taught the expression distance equals rrate times time which will calculate the distance an object will travel at a given rate in a specific amount of time. However, we don't know the actual rate of the car when the breaks were applied. So we have to use physics to figure how much friction, counter force, was applied by the breaks to calculate the rate of deceleration. If a developer wants to go by the book on physics he is going to want to consider things like the weight of the car, the weight of the driver, the condition of the tires, and so on. All of those factors could come into play. Take the tires for example. On the average family car there are all purpose tires with thick tread for use in snow, dirt, mud, bla. The idea is to get friction and traction in various weather and driving conditions. Though, on a Nascar sports car they use a bald tire. The reason for this is that the bald tire will offer less resistance, less friction, on the track while racing. As a result that same bald tire would offer less counter force when pressing the breaks than your average all purpose tire. Anyway, once you figure out how much counter force was applied you can use that to get the amount of deceleration. Which in turn can be used to reduce the rate of the car. Once you know the current rate you can pass that off to your distance equals rate times time equasion to find how far the car will slide down the track. Claudio wrote: Hello Thomas! [Audyssey] Raceway music.
Hi everyone, I'm sending this out to everyone just to clarify a few things I have noticed multiple times over the last day or so. I agree with Che here that all of us have been way to hung up on the Raceway trailer's music selection. To be honest what music to play while racing should be the least of my concerns at this point in development because adding music tracks, removing music tracks, Winamp support, is something that can be added in any time before the game enters public testing, and or after it enters public testing. What our main focus should be at this point is getting the game tracks designed, build and test the games physics engine, work on the player's score and cash tracking for the season, and various other game play and design issues. I hope I am not coming off rude or condescending as this is not my aim here. I merely want to point out that the engine and general game play is of a higher priority to me this point than discussions of weather to play Rock and Roll, Country, Gansta Wrap, Techno, etc. Smile Che, I would be all to happy to add Winamp support if you would give me some pointers how to do this. I have no experience with doing this so some help in this area would be greatly appreciated. As you pointed out it would help out allot with not having to license or obtain allot of stock music for the game. You guys are way too hung up on the music here I think. The choice of music is good I think, but why not put the actual Stones track in there? Nobody is going to pinch you for using copyrighted music for it. I used the Kill Bill theme for the Rail Racer spot, and I think it sounds great, and helps add to the excitement level of the trailer immensely. If you haven't heard it, you can check it out here: http://blindadrenaline.com/downloadCounter/download.php?x=Rail+Racer+spot I would also seriously consider adding winamp support in the game, as it allows the player to listen to whatever they want from their own collection, keeps the developer from having to waste time producing music tracks, and is really easy to program in to boot. As in Rail Racer, I plan on having this feature in all my future games, as players that want to listen to music as they play the game love it. If the aim of the Raceway trailer is to build interest in the game, I would mix in a voice over describing some of the key features of the game, as well as let potential customers know this is a very early peak at a game that will be far more substanative than the trailer. I think the sound effects are great, and those engine sounds should be quite realistic when the RPM pitch changes are put in. The pit crews voice is right on as well I think. As I've said before, I can't wait until this game is released, I think it is going to be a blast, and I know Thomas will do a great job on it. Hi Ryan and all, Some clarifications are in order. Initially I had planned on using midi output for music and was going to record the music tracks for the game myself. However, as was witnessed on list that idea went out the window do to unpopularity. Now, I am likely going to put in a couple of music tracks as stock with some Nascar sounding rock tracks, and allow the user the option to play or his/her own mp3s or something. That idea is more popular and the most practical. Cheers. Ryan Conroy wrote: Hi Tom, Why does the music for RaceWay have to be only from the 70's/80's? Hi Charles, Yes, if I used unlicensed music copyright issues would be a problem. However, I am going to get a license for a few Robert Neary tracks since he does make some Nascar racing songs like Speed Racer and Mustang Challenge. that will give a few basic tracks for say menus and things, but I will have to use some sort of mp3 software like WinAmp for playback of the player's own music. [Audyssey] New Raceway trailer posted.
Hi everyone, I have just posted an all new Raceway trailer. New in this trailer is an improved car engine with more mustle and speed sound to it, engine accelleration as it builds speed, and I dropped in a racing song from an 80's rock band, Vixon, called Rev It Up. I also show off such things as speed announcements, fuel announcements, lap announcements, lap time, etc so you can here that as well. I have disabled the other AI cars on the track so you can focus on the car I am driving. Basically, there is nothing fancier in this trailer right now than me driving around the demo track, but it is a nice demo of what is to come. Without further ramble here is ther trailer. http://www.usagames.us/trailers.php Let me know your thoughts of this trailer vs the last one. Hi Nicol, Quote If I have 4 swords I have to use them before I can pick up a new sword, right? End quote Yes. However, you won't have to necessarily use them all. Just enough swords to allow you to pick up more swords. For example, if you have four and you know there are two swords up ahead use two, and you can get two more. Quote But say for instance I'm carrying 4 swords and now I'm approaching a sword and I jump to get it. Will I hear a sound telling me I have to use up one of my swords in order to get that one? End quote Not at the moment. You simply won't be able to take the swords until you get rid of some. Hi, Na na na. Me thinks you are having troubles with your vision. You see that car ahead of you with the stars and stripes that is me with my guide tiger leading the lap. [Audyssey] {Spam?} Re: raceway - Re: Raceway Trailer
Gah, I just...can't...wait for this game to be released! Sanfransisco rush. I saw those two words on the web this morning and my God, how they take me back. All that was eight years ago, almost to the day. I can remember me getting my nintendo 64 as though it were yesterday. I remember sanfransisco rush; not so accessible. The real access came in rush 2: extreme racing USA. I've dreamed of getting a game like it(totally accessible, cars sound exactly the same etc); I think my dream may just be coming true. I liked the fact that I could choose my own engine; my own horn, and my tork. (low was better for really flying, high was better for just burning some rubber when you tramp the accellerator, and meedium was just that; in between those two). You could also choose color, which really isn't that big of thing, although if it could be spoken, it would be fun to imagine, I could think of really grose colors, puke green, for example. More to the point, there was tire pressure, durability (this game wasn't really realistic; there were wild jumps, even wilder cornering, and your reflexes had to be good), however, the durability and such was something to make it more arcade-like, although there was the adjustment of suspension (hard, soft and um, hmmm, I think that's it). There were the following vehicles. I know the order by heart; pickup, compact, muscle car, mobster, sedan, bandit, coop, exotic, van, sportster, sub-compact, concept, hatchback, cruiser, stallion, and 4x4. There were also mountain due cans which could be picked up, for, unsurprisingly, a mountain due dragster! I'm not too sure what other cars can be attained, but there were a few- like th taxi, and hmmm, I think there was a rocket car, or some such. Anyway, that game was and stil is one of my favorites to this day. If someone were to ask me what my favorite console game was, I wouldn't hesitate a second to say rush 2: extreme racing. Yeah, it may be old, but a oldy but a goody, as they say. That game is the best there is out there imho, and while raceway probably won't be nearly as unrealistic and probably would be against copyright or something if those engine sounds were used, man, it can stil be dreamed, right? I'm trying to remember what else were cool. Oh! right! On track selection, you could choose your wind speed, fog speed, and if you wanted reerview mirror (for example, turning the steering wheel left would mean going right in real life, confusing, eh)? There was also an option of racing the track in reverse. Suspension, I found, really made a difference on jumps, too soft a suspension and you'd find yourself coming to a stop when you landed, too hard and you'd fly off that jump right into the wall if you weren't careful, and explode. That was another cool thing; while racing, if you hit something, you exploded, and came back into the game, and there was no fee to pay off damages to your vehicle; it just magically regenerated, you know. God, nastalja, damn. Just talking about this game brings teers to my eyes, remembering all the great times me and a sited friend had, (that sited friend who, in the longrun, got cancer, at only 14). I've stil got this game lieing around, and I guess I'll keep coming back to it until iether I die, or my n64 dies- but even if it does, I'll stil buy a new one. And you know what? I stil love the thing. No matter how old it is, it stil has good memories. I hope raceway, at least, I think (know) that it'll revolusionize the way racing should be, or so I hope. The blind comunity has seen very few racing games that are as good as mainstream ones, aside from top speed, but, Thomas, if you're stil reading this, a few suggestions. The ability to win cars after racing some sort of circuit. I'm not sure if this would be at all possible the way the game is now, in development, but I think it would make the replayability go way up, and of course, the ability to choose your own engine and if, by choosing a smaller engine than is required to run that car (say the car weights 5000 lb, and you choose a 1.8 l engine, that cars bearly gonna move, but if you put a 5.7 l engine underneath the hood of a honda civic, and tromped on the go, well, you'd most likely fly.). Or we could have classes of engines for certain classes of cars, to make it a bit more realistic, (that's how they did it in ridge racer, another favorite game of mine, even though its no where near accessible). But I'm probably just going wa out of the game you were thinking of, but there you have it. Oh, and a stun track would be kind of cool, whereby doing jumps and such would earn points (doing certain tricks, such as airtime, left roll, right roll, front flip etc), and we could do it multiplayer. But I'm just curious, what is this game supposed to simulate? Nascar, you say? Then, I guess, these suggestions aren't relevant, although, winning new cars in nasscar, and being able to

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. And you could track your gun across the body of the monster as well, say the vulnerable spot is in the direct center of the body, you'd have to move your gun to the left or right without actually turning your character to get a lock on that spot directly. I'm not sure how you could really do this in the midst of combat, it'd be a lot harder to accomplish without turning your character entirely, but a sniper mode would be perfect for something like that, maybe to get the first couple shots in before you really tick it off and it charges you. Re: [Audyssey] Crash's spin on Raceway trailer
The feel of the steeling wheel was something in back of my mind when writing the email but left it out. Smiles keeping it short as possible. No way to get that feature through a sound demo and others who though the demo sounded like a Sunday contry drive had not consider this point. When listin I had the thought. My ideas or spins here not to direct which way to go with the game tom. So, don't get me wrong, but options or backup plans to improve the game. Since we will be playing by ear the more different sonds overall can add to the game. What we can't see we can hear. Trying to think of more different sounds effect when writing the email while the game is still young. I did notice one suggestion in the demo, that I suggested months ago. The wind in the driver mesh. I can hear some wind which is a nice touch. Even with my old Rock and Roll ears could tell that other cars were being passed. For thses ears of mine it was hard to tell if the car was nearing the outside wall. That's way I wanted to add my spin on the track boarders. The rumbling could be good enough. HOw about this tom for such sound effects like the rumble other cars Etc have a place in the game where you can control the volumes. This would help those who have trouble hear a certain sound to bring up the volume or lower it to it won't distract them from hearing other sounds. Thanks nice job and I think my older email help anser a few questions out there. The problem may be when to turn when one may be traveling at different speeds and differt place on the track. Is the turn 10 yeards or a 100 yeards. It was the phrase Turning Signal. You know that Click, Click, Click sounds when a driver has the turn Signal turned on. This sound is suttle enough to give the racer the first indication to start turning. That right my friend and that is way I was looking to have a special sound included. The sounds of marbles. Smiles I knew if I left that phrase out you come in. Look I starting to think more different sounds Raceway game the funner. Besides it being a Sim in a way, why not a few fun sounds as well. Say in the pits and getting gas. Bing, Bing, Ging. or a gulping sound. Racing for 500 miles addding funs sounds would be hot. But onot to the point of cartoonish. But I am still pulling for the turning signal to help directing my 3500 pound car into a turn to get say under a car for a quick pass or go high on the final lap in the final turn to take the lead. Got to figure say three lines in the curve and by havng something count for you will help set the car in line you need. Tires that are wore may not even allow you car to get to the inside of the turn but keep you in the middle line or outer line. Even a bad set up to the racer could have your car so tight that you will be able to race high. So, once you find out whow your car is handling you need to know how you going to take turns at what speed and which lane before your next pit stop. The game is stillin the creation phrase and just besides the sound effects that can be heard on the demo much more will be gong into the game down the road. End quote This is why at some point an built in mp3 player might be good. You could wrip these to mp3 using gold wave drop them, in and race and rock away. Quote Turning IN the demo it sounds like you have the nack for turning with the voice, so it sounds like you got the timing down. What I see or hear is what would be nice is what I saw in the first response to the thread. The voice being a turning signal . End quote Well, I can look into the possability of adding a true turning signal in the game. As far as distance the way tracks are designed distance
Re: [Audyssey] Raceway answers was USA Raceway trailer.
Ok, right, for myself I brought up MIDI as a format type only. For a player that could play music that one could change on the fly was the idea I was looking for. Besides have a certain type of format then droping ones own tunes the player director could case problem. I do like the idea of a player during the times when I may not be in the hunt but just driving to gain my points at the end of the race. Then it would sound like I was on a sunday afternoon drive. Anybody knows of a good Wheel and padels. I am looking one that will vibrate and and have a cup holder. Smiles. If I can't drink andrace there be no pont. Crash - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, November 04, 2007 7:38 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Raceway answers was USA Raceway trailer. Hi everyone, In order to save posting 100 different emails individually here is my answers for as many emails as I can in this message. Quote The Backgroundmusik is bad I think. End quote The music you hear in the current trailer won't be the music in the final version. Probably not even in the first playable version. I have already started searching for new music. I haven't decided on what kind of music I will use, but it probably will be something with allot of rock guitar, high energy, and really hard rock sounding. Quote the Sound of the Car is not what I expected from your describtion on the net.. I hope you can find better carsound and better background musik. End quote Well, the car sounds I have are professionally made sounds for Nascar games produced by a reputable sound designer company. I am not sure I can do any better than these, but Iwill look. Mind telling me what you found wrong with the ones I have? Quote Yeah, I think there should be some lycenced music. I remember that music you had in the trailer before this one and it was nice. End quote I still have it on my backup drive somewhere. I believe it was one of Robert nearies pieces. He plays really hard rocking metal, and if you liked it I know where to get lots more of his heavy rock pieces. His music tends to be very energetic with lots of wripping guitar. Quote If I could make a suggestion, I feel it might not hurt to allow players the option to put their own midis in along with the existing ones in order for a wider selection. Would something like that be too difficult to code? If not End quote Well, actually Raceway isn't playing the midi files directly. I converted the midi file to wav, dropped it in the sound directory, and it played it back in the trailer. However, based on end user input so far I am not certain any kind of midi is advisable no matter how well I can play them or not. I think people are looking for a real rock type sound rather than hearing midi sequenced versions of the songs they know and love. Quote After thinking about my phrasing, I mistyped. Sort of hard to describe, though. It doesn't have the rock sound I'm used to, no guitars, no lyrics, and no drums. It's, I guess, different. End quote I'm not sure what you mean by no drumbs, but there is certainly drumbs in the music I created for the trailer. In any case point well taken, and I will look for something more to the general opinion expressed on list for something more rocking and upbeat. Quote As far as the echo, I like how Jim Kitchen's racing game indicates a turn. Maybe you could do it that way, but eliminate the noise heard before the turn. Maybe you could even eliminate the radio announcement that a turn is coming up on higher skill levels if there are going to be difficulty levels. End quote Well, as is stated on the web site there is only one difficulty level. So if you want the turn indicators disabled they will have to be disabled in the options menu. [Audyssey] a NASCAR week - Re: Raceway answers was USA Raceway trailer.
Online scenario: A different track throughout the year to match those run by NASCAR) Monday and Tuesday, time trials at designated times, only 1 racer at a time for the designated number of laps. The top 42 are entered in the race. Wednesday through Saturday: Practice, open any time for those who made it to the race. Sunday: The race is held at a designated time, and can be viewed by all but only the 42 with the fastest times on Monday and Tuesday are entered in the race. For those who didn't make it into the race, better luck next time. If you're woried about not being able to race online, don't worry. Gamers can arrange to race at any time just for fun. -- Shepherds are the best beasts! - Original Message - From: Gary Whittington [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2007 12:23 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Raceway answers was USA Raceway trailer. Lastly, I hope that those who got tooken by North will support Tom's efforts and let the past go and move head. Otherwiseours dreams could be just that, dreams. So gamers need to understand if they want more features they will have to buy units, and give me some operating capital or I will do the best I can and just get it out there to settle the $4000 taken for pre-orders and get myself off the hook. over the passed few months i have come to hate the deal I made with James North, and it is for that reason I've been less interested in going all out on these two games.
