[Audyssey] Sryth bug
Hi list, I have noticed more than once during the game where I was not able to pick up the gold coins because the amounts are the same. For Example, You discover the following items. take gold 4 coins take longsword take gold 4 coins I click on the first 4 gold coins and I get them, but when I click on the next 4 gold coins it says I already have them. Is this a bug, or is the game correct by saying these are the same 4 gold coins? Happy New Year everybody! [Audyssey] MUD clients for Vista which are accessible
Hi everyone: H Appy New Year's and a question. Does anyone know a mud client I can use with windows Vista? I use monkey term with my xp system with the scripts for self speaking with Jaws. However when I installed Monkey Term as administrator that worked perfectly but when I tried to run the monkey lib file it would not register the regsrvr.dll file. Any ideas of what I can try to do this or install it? If not, does anyone know a mud client I can use with Jaws and windows vista? Thanks in advance. If scripts are needed also, where can I get them at? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Willem Sent: Sunday, December 30, 2007 11:29 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: [Audyssey] Woo! Re: [Audyssey] speak and spell and speak and math.
Hi Lisa, Actually, I think an accessible speak N Spell game is a good idea. It is a pretty easy thing to make so I probably wouldn't even charge for that kind of game. Basically, all it does is checks through a dictionary word list at random and tests if the word you typed matches the one it selected. Every programmer does something similar when learning to program. String matching, word matching, is one of those fundimental skills a programmer picks up pretty early on in education. As it happens after I am done with Montezuma's Revenge I am going to take some time doing research for multiplatform games so I can support Mac and Linux based computers as well as Windows. Something like Speak N Spell would make a nice simple game to try out and test on multiple computers running different operating systems with little time to put it together. Re: [Audyssey] speak and spell and speak and math.
Hi Lisa, that is hard to say. I don't know if they were available outside the USA, but I know how I got mine. There is the Cleveland Sight Center which services Northern Ohio, and I believe my parents got it through them several years ago when the Speak and Spells and Speak and Maths were still around in stores. Last time I was there for mobility training etc they didn't have anything like that in the Sight Center's store. They had the usual stuff you see like accessible Monopoly, Brailled Uno cards, brailled playing cards, four track tape players, etc. So I think those overlays were a temperary thing that was around when the units wer popular, and died out soon after. Now days the only places I have seen working units with a overlay like that is at the Ohio School for the Blind , and the Canton City school system has one in their grade school class rooms. No doubt they were passed down from class to class for the last 20years or so. [Audyssey] Speak and spell emulator
Hi, I just downloaded and tryed the emulator. I had a thing like this as a kid but with german words of cause. *grin* Well, the first thing I noticed is that I often get the spelling wrong just because I don't understand this game voice properly wich is a bit frustrating. And has someone here managed to start another game mode exept of the spelling mode? I tryed pressing the f5 key for example to start the hangman game but it doesn't work. I press f5 and f1 afterwards to start the game but it doesn't beep when I press f1. And how does the mode work where I get a letter at the beginning? I can't remember such a mode from my game I had, but this was long ago so it's possible I just forgot about it. *grin* And pressing f8 also does nothing for me. Well, if anyone here has figured out someting about this please let me know. :-) Greetings Sarah -- "Amicus certus in re incerta cernitur." (Einen sicheren Freund erkennt man in unsicherer Sache.) Hi Lisa, Well, I may finish the speakNMath project, but no guarantees. At least I still have all the recorded sounds backed up to disc. I remember it took me two hours until I got the darn thing to say the number 13! grin At any rate, I may finish the project, just for kicks. Hi, Well, I owned a couple of the Speak and Spells and both did extremely different and weird things when the batteries were low. It was down right funny if you ask me when it started going weird. Speaking of funny Speak And Spell stories this one time I remember a girl in my first grade class who got one out of the school library on her library card. Well, she was toying around with it as we were walking back to class when it accidently slipped from her hands and went flying down a flight of stairs. Actually two flights if you countthe the landing in the middle. In any case it was trying to prompt for a word when it went clatter clatter down the stairs. When the girl ran down the stairs and picked it up amazingly it still sort of worked. Except when it tried to speak it made all kinds of goofy noises and popped and hissed. Re: [Audyssey] speak and spell and speak and math.
Mine never did that. It just started screaming at you once the batteries got to a certain point. Or, if you turned it on without a module in it it would just start making these really weird noises instead of giving you a word to spell. I've also heard of them just all of a sudden picking a random letter of the alphabet and then saying a word that began with that letter any time you tried to set a spelling level. That was another sign that the batteries were about to die. Claudio. Developers don't always actively monitor discussion lists. You will find that emailing a developer directly may yield better results. I don't always have time to read the audyssey list, and in fact my mail program puts audyssey mail in it's own folder. I don't always get to this folder. if you have any problems, emailing [EMAIL PROTECTED] is always apreciated. - Original Message - From: "Claudio" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'Gamers Discussion list'" Sent: Monday, December 31, 2007 6:29 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Problem with playing super liam Hello liam! Yes. We recently updated all those titles to be compatible with Vista, and will be updating the rest of our product catalog shortly. So far, Monkey Business, ESP Pinball Classic, ESP Pinball Xtreme, Pinball Party Pack Volume 1, and Ten Pin Alley are all Vista ready. This was posted in our news a couple of weeks ago. Visit the web site at www.DraconisEntertainment.com for more details. All those titles also have demos, except the Party Pack, which has an MP3 trailer you can listen to. [Audyssey] a few MUSHclient issues
Hi everyone: My laptop died on Saturday night. You know, the last hurrah, and all that. ugg. In any event, I purchased a desktop which uses Vista and am working on reinstalling old programs. Fun for the entire family! You know, sort of like a root canal. With pliers and no Whisky. In any case, I downloaded mushclient and have the JFW plug-in, but I'm having a few speech issues and I don't know if it is from all of the new changes or something I'm doing wrong. I am also using jaws 9. Sometimes when rereading room descriptions with the jaws cursor, it cuts off and ends up reading parts of another program, for example, windows mail folders. It's almost like the program is transparent at times. Also, many times when I am rereading something in MUSHclient, I'll get a message like 'line 100, december 31, 2007' tooltip. I never got these messages before..well, I did get the occcasional tool tip, which I assume is just some random word that is being highlighted. But as for the rest of the extraneous text, it's driving me a little crazy. Sometimes, jaws doesn't seem to focus correctly and I'm not certain what exactly is causing the quirks. What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this so that I can go back to happily mudding? Thanks so much for your assistance. Re: [Audyssey] A Game Idea
I tend not to enjoy games like Elder Ages. You get the same thing, over and over and over and over and over. The thing about Pokemon is the strategy of pitting monster against monster. Elder Ages has none of that. Heck, I'd be happy with a Pokemon text game if it emulated the strategy well enough. Kelby Doomed Dragon Q: What is the sound of one hand clapping? A: It is the universe exploding. "It is not what we see that determines who we are. It is how we choose to see it." Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. Re: [Audyssey] A Game Idea
Hmmm, well restricting things might work, though i imagine getting the game engine to work just right (even only using the initial 151 pokemon), might be quite a task as far as balancing everything out goes. also of course, you'd run into copywrite issues, so probably would have to create your own monsters and sfx for the game. My only other thought though, is there are already plenty of text games which require you to recruite characters, train and battle them, elder ages, alien adoption agency etc, in text brouser games it's a rather crowded genre. while an audio version would certainly be more fun, especially if there was a decent range of different types of monster and ability to make the game interesting enough to play, a Dev would stil i think have a hard job on their hands to create a fun and balanced game. Re: [Audyssey] Programming games
Hi Robin, I primarily use Window Eyes 6.1 with Visual Studio 2005 and don't encounter really any access issues with it. When I used Jaws with it it seamed to do ok as long as you turned off a couple of options in the editor that drew Jaws focus away from the edit Window. As for panning a sound to the left I don't know that I can write up a simple sample as there is allot of steps in volved from creating the object variables, to loading your sound card, setting up the buffer options, to playing the sound, and then moving it to the left. I have written a class that does this stuff for me because doing it for several sounds is allot of work without having your own class that does it all behind the seens so to speak. Re: [Audyssey] Passive Computer on Sound RTS?
Nah, I guess I didn't explain myself well enough here. There's certain maps where if you put 8 bots on the map, they're literally impossible. I don't mind losing to the computer, but I do like to have a fighting chance. There's one map in particular, where all the meadows are covered by woods or gold mines, where all the computers somehow just know where all of the huge resource emplacements are, and end up with knights seemingly within seconds, before you've even found the first of your big resources. Its literally impossible to beat that map with 8 bots, though its kind of fun to try, *grin*. What I was asking is I thought passive meant it had a set base, didn't expand and you could just take it out easy. I'm glad to know that's not the truth. - Original Message - From: "Willem" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Monday, December 31, 2007 7:23 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Passive Computer on Sound RTS? > you mean you don't want it to win? lol. > > No the passive computer only has a more passive strategy than when you > play > against the aggressive computer, but it won't prevent the computer trying > to > actually attack you. > - Original Message - > From: "Shadow Dragon" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Gamers Discussion list" > Sent: Monday, December 31, 2007 4:16 PM > Subject: [Audyssey] Passive Computer on Sound RTS? > > >> Hi, >> >> I'm curious about the passive computer on sound RTS. Re: [Audyssey] Sryth
Hi Also use the map button on the bottom of the page. There will be options for a text or graphic representation of the map. Usually you'll be told something like You are 4south and 8 east from the top corner of the map. The passage continues 3 north, 0 East, 1 South, 1 West So you still need to have some sense of directions and where you have already explored. Re: [Audyssey] A Game Idea
Hi. the problem I can see here, is that ccg (collectable card games), such as pokemon, yugio, warlord, magic the gathering etc work on a collectable model. there are literally thousands of cards for each game, with new expantions being bought out each year, which require the players to addapt their own decks and stratogies. My brother is a tournament level Ccg player in the Uk, (he's going to the international tournament in Shikargo this year), and sinse cards are one of the easiest things to braille, i did have a discussion with him about making one of the simpler games (such as pokemon), accessible, but the amount of cards required for the game is just staggering! to program that many cards would be a heck of a task, as would designing a completely computer based system (especially one which was not unbalanced, and could recieve expantions and new cards the way ccg's usually do). I remember having a discussion with Rob of lighttech about this subject, and it was the shear scale of the project that made him think it might not be feasable. Personally, if a dev was going to put that amount of effort into a sapi based game, i'd prefer something more exploration based, perhaps an expanded text adventure game, or a complex board game such as hero quest, or the dungeon game. I'm sorry if this sounds grim and negative, as I said, this was the discussion I had with my brother, but while he's a very good Ccg player, neither he, nor myself know what's possible programming wise, so it's entirely probabl I'm pouring on the pesimism unnecessarily. Standard mode for the moment. I'm actually on level 6 right now. I got killed just now because i was trying to avoid a spider and missed the swinging rope in the process after being bitten I don't know how many times in the space of a few seconds. I'd planned to catch hold of the rope before using one of my potions but i timed the last jump badly and so Angela went Waaah! Splat! And i figured out where the spikes on level 1 were quite by accident. That's what's in that first pit with the vanishing platform. Now i just have to survive level 6 and then figure out the guardian. Re: [Audyssey] Apple Chess was Screen reader for MAC
Apple Chess is very very good. I haven't played Elite Chess, so can't make a direct comparison, but it is entirely accessible across the board, so to speak, and I've spent many happy hours playing it. You can examine the board as you would expect with arrows, and you can set the game up to automatically announce the moves it makes as it does. There are a few Chess variations also available with it. If you want to sit down and play a good game of chess, it doesn't get much better. [Audyssey] Accessible Mac Games was Screen reader for MAC
Hi Cara, I've been looking into the possability of getting a Mac for my computer network for quite some time, and would be interested in writing some accessible Mac games myself. The problem is for me since I don't have a Mac myself and not a personal group of dedicated Mac testers it is a little difficult for me to design and test Mac games. I know that one option is to go Java, but I still have a few gripes about Java's sound programming abilities. The other is Python, but I have no idea how to get Python based games setup and running on a Mac. Re: [Audyssey] programming games
Hi Bryan, I think you will discover once you get some skill with Python you won't even touch Autoit again. My dislike for Autoit is both well known and legendary. Mainly because it is pretty useless after you learn it. Python on the other hand has been used to write screen readers like Orca for Linux, NVDA for Windows, used to write TV Now for Linux, games like Sound RTS, etc... Basically it is nearly limitless in the kinds of apps you can right given skill to do so. You may start out writing simple apps to copy files from place to place on your hard drive but in a year or two think about what you might be programming with Python since you got more skill in it. [Audyssey] A Game Idea
Dear List, A game idea just hit on me. This, in concept, doesn't sound like it would be that hard to program. The idea is a Yu-Gi-Oh card duelling game. I've never been a fan of the show, but I like the card game. You wouldn't even need voice-actors--SAPI or JAWS could do all the work. (Incidentally, this project sounds something like perhaps Lighttech could be interested in.) Let me know what you think. Hi Bryan, When editing Python source code you can use any text editor you like. You can use something like notepad, textpad, etc. Under Linux I use gedit for editing Python and other program source code just because it is a powerful text editor. All you have to do is save the file with a py extention rather than txt. As far as playing sounds and music in Python look at the tootorials for Python on pygame.org. As for Sapi source code the NVDA Project source might be a nice place to look at Sapi programming for Python. Bryan Mckinnish wrote: > Hi everyone. > I decided on python as the language to switch to. Re: [Audyssey] Troopanum 2 on a laptop
It's odd, but until I bought my desktop in september of 2005, I hadn't had any exposure to desktop keyboards either, and was also using the function key set for hal. In fact it was playing audio games (shades of doom in particular), that persuaded me switching to the numberpad hotkey set would be a better plan, sinse then for most audio games I could just turn Hal's voice offwithout having to turn the hotkeys off as well. so audio games have sort of accustomed me to Pc keyboards for gaming, and I'll have to get used to a laptop again, - unless i buy a gamepad of course. to be honest bryan, i've always used the F keys to activate special items, sinse I just find it more logical, though I wish you could remap them to the last letter row on the keyboard to make them easier to reach. Thus far, Pipe2 has been my worst game on the laptop, though it's a nice way to get used to things before I get the codes for the gma games, which obviously require far more clear keyboard use. Re: [Audyssey] programming games
Hi Claudio, Right now my prefered programming language is C-Sharp. It is becoming really popular in the business world, is a rapid development language, and the .Net Framework has allot of nice class libraries which really speads up the process of slapping together some games. I also like it because before I used C-Sharp I was a C++ developer so most of all the language conventions was familiar to me already. However, as I pointed out to others on this list myself that the blind comunity over the last two years has began to fragment into other operating system markets besides Windows. Del now ships Linux desktops pre-installed with the latest accessibility out of the box and all ofApples desktops and laptops come installed with VoiceOver which means Windows is not the only option in town. Buying a Del notebook with Linux or a Mac with VoiceOver is actually much cheaper than going with Windows Vista, Jaws, and the usual access technologies. As a result USA Games as well as others now have to begin evaluating the possability of making our games multiplatform. Easier said than done though. Well, more people felt the price was right and sales have dramatically picked up. I suppose once I go to full price it will slow down again, but for the moment anyway I really do need to focuss more on finishing the game rather than processing orders and answering tech support questions. So a slow down for a couple of weeks or so might be helpful in that regard. Thanks everyone for ordering. I appreciate your sales. Willem wrote: > lol yes us people are like that. Re: [Audyssey] Troopanum 2 on a laptop
I don't have a laptop any more but you can get used to it, alternatively get a game pad as there are a few games now that you can configure to work with a USB game pad, troop2 of course, hunter and others which I better not plug! As for ships the hovvers can be a challenge especially on the later levels, and also those ships you can only shoot in the centre of the screen as you want to shoot others too. Oh well, can't be in too places at once! What I really like about Troop2 is I find it really hard to beat on insane so when I'm in practice its always going to be a challenge. Lol! My favorite is the cruzer. No actually the liqudaters, because you just sit there and wait for them to come your way. Of course the crafts are a dang pain, as soon as I get to them, bang! Hi. I used to use a laptop constantly. I got so used to it, I had to set my desktop jaws keyboard layout to laptop! Perhaps it's just me, but that's exactly where I haven't been having problems. Perhaps it's the almost total lack of exposure to desktop computers since this time last year, but I think I might at last be getting used to the laptop layout. The only thing that threw me, and it's not even related to the keyboard layout, was hearing my hhammer accuracy spoken in Blast Chamber when I pressed F4 while trying to kill a spider. Hi. Just playing troop 2 (yes, Bsc were nice enough to send me the keys), and it's very weerd, but that extra distance to the alt key really makes doing in those moonrocks a real pest, it's not in the stats, but I think I got moonrocked about 5 times during the game, admittedly I destroyed around 45 of the damnable things, but stil, i can usually avoid moonrockment altogether. you mean you don't want it to win? lol. Re: [Audyssey] programming games
Hi Bryan! Well, you can use any editor you want for Python. Just put in all the lines and save it, the file extension must be .py. However, if you write a script that will just print some text like print 'Hello world!' be sure to put a raw_input() at the end of the script. Otherwise, the script will print the text on the screen but then close immediately. As Tom told you, the only problem with Python is the formatting. You probably won't find an editor that does that for you automatically because this editor would have to know which line belongs to which function and what goes together and what doesn't which would be almost impossible I think... Re: [Audyssey] MUDS
If you don't already have them, go to www.gutterstar.net and get the scripts for Gmud. While you are there you might want to check out the java mud client and it's scripts. I like it better than Gmud and find it easier to use than monkeyterm. Hope this helps. - Original Message - From: "Tyler Wood" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Jeremy Gilley" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Sunday, December 30, 2007 9:30 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MUDS > Hi, > > I always recommend monkey term over G mud, because imho its underrated. > You > can get it at > http://aarontech.randylaptop.com > and Aaron T.
