Re: [Audyssey] STFC 2.

2008-04-15 Thread shaun everiss
I'd probably choose the e.
maily because only 3 actual movies have come out with it, a few more books with
it, and a couple sighted games.
I was hoping for actual storylines where you do explore planets and such
achieving sertain objectives as well as battle.
Obviously I don't expect something like elete force ii although that would be
nice.
I also don't expect a game with combat, exploration, etc and solving problems
as well as puzzles which would again be nice but really I have no idea what
goes into these things, and its probably to much to ask at this point.
I'd at some point in the future like a ds9 style game or something where you
wer odo or sisco or someone on the station doing things, not sure what.

[Audyssey] STFC 2.

2008-04-15 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi everyone,
Over the passed couple of months I have been tinkering with STFC 2.0 off
and on. Unlike STFC 1.x STFC 2.0 is going to be a real time action game.
Instead of commanding several bases, ships, etc you will be in charge of
commanding a single ship throughout the various missions. However, that
is about as far as I have got with the basic idea for the game. One
question remains which ship to use.
I personally want to stick with something Next Generation era and that
pretty much narrows it down to Enterprise NCC-1701-D or Enterprise
NCC-1701-E. Though, thje U.S.S. Defiant is also an option here. Each
ship is good, but all depends on if you want a television series type
plot or a movie plot. Each ship is unique.
Enterprise NCC-1701-D, as seen on Star Trek Next Generation, is a
Galaxy-Class cruiser. Armorment includes 250 photon torpedoes, 9 deep
space probes, standard type-x phasers, and shields were rated at 2026
gigawatts. Maximum achieved speed on STNG was warp 9.6 for 12 minutes.
Not bad, but after the movies came out the Enterprise E has really made
the television series sound sort of lame.
Enterprise NCC-1701-E, as seen in Star Trek 8, 9, and 10 has far more
fire power than its earlier name sake. The latest Enterprise comes armed
with 325 photon torpedoes, 175 quantum torpedoes, type-x phasers,
ablative hull armor, and shield strength is 5056
gigawatts. Maximum rated speed is warp 9.7. As you can see the newer
Enterprise has far more armor, firepower, speed, etc.
The U.S.S. Defiant, seen on Star Trek Deep Space 9, certainly has its
own interesting abilities and features. It comes armed with a cloaking
device, 60 quantom torpedoes, 30 photon torpedoes, type-u phaser cannon,
ablative hull armor, and shields are rated as 2026 gigawatts. Maximum
known speed is warp 9.985. Definitly not bad ship specs if you ask me.
I guess what I am asking if you had to pick one which ship would you
choose. If you choose Defiant chances are I would make most of the
missions take place during the dominion war so you can slug it out with
Jem'hadar fighters, Breen Battle Cruisers, and Cardassian Cruisers. If
you pick Enterprise D I would make the missions play out more-or-less
like the tv series with each mission have its own bad guys, mission
orders, etc. With the Enterprise E we could go either way. The
Enterprise E was constructed just before the Dominion War, served
through the Dominion War, and seen action after the Dominion War.

Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] Self-Voicing Nethack

2008-04-15 Thread Dark
Hi william.

glad your trying the game. Bryan peterson also did a podcast about Sryth on
blind cool tech. I'm afraid I don't have the link, but you could try
searching for Sryth the age of Igtheon on the blind cooltech site at
http://www.blindcooltech.com/ , Bryan explains a lot of the mechanics and
plays through a brief start up adventure, which might be helpful for you to
know if you want to find out more abou the game.

sinse the in game documentation is well and truly out of date, You could
also try the official Sryth wiki at http://sryth.pbwiki.com/

hmmm, seeing your post reminds me of my old project to create a new player's
guide for Sryth, maybe I ought to actually get the thing finished.

Beware the grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Self-Voicing Nethack

2008-04-15 Thread Dark
Hi Ron.

well, I personally don't mind a slow game, but by the time I'd examined the
screen with Hal's vf, worked out where I was and what's going on, often with
reference to the docs to remember what the blasted symbols mean, then looked
at the command list (and possibly the players handbook), to try and decide
what I was doing, a long time had passed. i'll frankly admit this got on my
nerves.

It's a shame someone couldn't make a basic nethack esque game, possibly
even a nethack modification, where all you do is wander around the dungeon,
fighting monsters, picking up weapons which are auto equipped, and healing
yourself at specific locations, just so that we could practice screen
readers and aski graphics. I've seen a few around the net, but unfortunately
their not as modifyable as nethack, and are usually doss games so run very
badly in windows xp which is a shame.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] Nethack

2008-04-15 Thread William L. Houts

Hi Michael,

Right now, I'm patiently waiting for Winzip to download, so I can crack open
Nethack and get to work. While I'm waiting, I'd like to ask which file it is I
comment out IBM characters and comment in noIBM characters.

Also, are games like Moria, Rogue and Angband playable by the blind?

Thanks!

Re: [Audyssey] quidditch game news

2008-04-15 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Josh,
I will not make a decision until I finish the next Sarah patch.
I have to decide if I do,
1. move the Quidditch level which has only you chasing after the snitch and
being attacked by two bludgers, to the first level as is, which would be
very easy, or
2. Write a more complex game closer to the real quidditch which would take
much longer.
So you will just have to wait and find out.
Phil

[Audyssey] podcast on miriani updated

2008-04-15 Thread constantine (on laptop)
Hi

For those new to miriani, I'm going to be doing a podcast tomorrow, and putting
it up here:

http://wolftech.redirectme.net

I'm curious to know what new players are looking for. A speech? a
demonstration? I could do both if you prefer (in two parts)? Sorry if this is a
little rushed; I can wait a few days, see what people think. in fact, I think I
might.

I hope someone benifits from my podcast, anyway. I plan to do some more on
various games, devices, etc. It may not be professional, but it will work well
enough I guess.

I'll be using a pair of panasonic headphones, or headset, with an hp laptop.
But it does ok with stario mix and such so, I don't think there will be any
problem there.

anyway, hope to hear feedback.

Have a good day from Tyler C. Wood!

Hi Andy,
The law suit that went to court yesterday,
Rowling to Testify in Trial Over Potter Lexicon
By MOTOKO RICH
Published: April 14, 2008
J. K. Rowling's public appearances usually take place in bookstores and
theaters, before thousands of her fans. But on Monday, Ms. Rowling, the
author of the wildly popular Harry Potter series, is expected to turn up in
a much different place: on the witness stand in a Lower Manhattan federal
courtroom, testifying against a small publisher looking to bring out an
encyclopedia based on her work.

I've tried Nethack with Hal, but run into severe troubles with the Asqi
graphics, though maybe a braille display will do the trick.

it's not precisely Nethack, but the recent post by Jason on this list
 (I
believe the subject was accessible rpg game), stated that he's working
 on
 a
self-voicing rpg with a random dungeon layout and other features, which
 might well foot the bill.

You can find the long thread about his game and it's developement on
 the
 audio games.net forum at:

 http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=2044

Also, It's not Nethack, but I was wondering if you've tried the online
 rpg
Sryth. lots of exploration, not all about stats and pvp (it's actually
single player apart from the rankings), and some interesting dungeon
 maps.
Everything's done in text descriptions similarly to a fighting fantasy
 or
other gamebook, accept the world is much larger, with many more
monsters and quests and such, and a much more complex skill system.

there are several players on the list, and I can deffinately recommend
 it
(though I've not played myself for a while). you can find it at
 http://www.sryth.com/

And if you wouldn't mind writing the name darkempathy in the referral
box, I'd be very much obliged ;D, assuming you like the game
 of
 course.

 Hth.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

[Audyssey] Sarah and the Building of Un-Scientific Things

2008-04-15 Thread Phil Vlasak
Games We'd like to play
Phil worried about the current lawsuit, thinks about changing a few words in
his game...

Sarah and the Building of Un-Scientific Things.
by
Phil Vlasak

There is an intruder in the most famous Un-Scientific Building in the land.
Late in the evening of July seven, a young female was spotted entering the
Building of Un-Scientific Things.

"She looked to be about eighteen." said a staff member of the Humor Shop.
"She shopped in our store and purchased one of our most popular items, a
Hat that turns you into a monster.
Then she had a long discussion with one of the owners, and I overheard the
two of them talking about a map. The next thing I knew she was gone"

Since it is mid summer, there aren't any young people in the building, but I
think she heard so much about the Strange Building, she probably wanted to
explore it.
The Night Watchman of the Building, says he may have heard an intruder in
the corridors,
and tells his dog to be on the lookout.

The Night Watchman says he is biding his time until the Owner of the
building is finished what he is doing. If I find her in the Building, once
I get my hands on her, I will tie her up by her arms in my office.

Instead of reading about the intruder in a story, why don't we actually
follow her around the Building?

This is what you can do in the new game from, PCS,
Sarah and the Building of Un-Scientific Things.

In the game you are Sarah, an American teenager, visiting the building for
the first time.

She discovers that a mischievous floating creature picked the pockets of the
young people leaving for the summer holidays and sprinkled money and Strange
items throughout the Building.

Somewhere in the Building, she will be able to find and use Unusual feathers
that increase her un-scientific powers, a talking connection to a helpful
creature, a horn that improves her hearing, flying chairs, a
Time machine , and a very expensive disguise.

With all that and more, Sarah won't have to go through the halls of the
Building unprotected.

The Building of Un-Scientific Things game transports Sarah and you into a
world of non-science filled with secret doors and hidden rooms. she explores
the Building searching for strange items, fighting creepy creatures knowing
at any minute, disaster may strike.

So, take a trip with Sarah to the Building of Un-Scientific Things and pay
a visit to the dead person's party in the cellar, pop into
the kitchen for a chat with the sometimes helpful slave;
slide down a rope for a spot of spelunking in the Cave of the Unknown
monster,
try to hide from the cranky Night Watchman,
pick up plenty of coins to buy candy at the candy store, ,
spend some time in the library learning new un-scientific wonders,
and finally, hold on tight as you fly on a chair trying to catch the silver
bird.

We make games that empty out your wallet.

Re: [Audyssey] story line for a game

2008-04-15 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicol,
Actually, that is called an MRI scan not an RMI scan. It stands for
magnetic resonance imaging. I've been in them myself, and they aren't
that bad. There is nothing to get scared or freaked out over.
As for a game blowing them up I couldn't do that. The reason I am alive
today is all thanks to an MRI machine and the skilled techs who used it.
They managed to discover that there was a blockage in my brain which
would have killed me or left me brain dead if they hadn't found it, and
got rid of it in time. I was left blinded, but better blind than dead.

Yes. The game just keeps getting harder indefinitely. There's no end to it.
It's a classic arcade game in that sense.

Actually, all you have to change is the line which tells it to use ibm
graphics. Just make that line say "noibmgraphics" and it will use all ASCII
characters. Nethack is completely playable with Jaws for windows. Especially
now that the autopilot is included in the game, you don't have to worry
about not being able to find the staircases again once you've discovered
them. That used to be a big problem since you couldn't get row and column
information for locations. With the autopilot, you can simply tell your
character to go to the greaterthan sign or to any plus-signs which are
closed doors to explore levels. Hope that helps you get started.

[Audyssey] super deekout

2008-04-15 Thread 0722001794
HI all
Let me rephrase the question I asked earlier on. I just wanted to know if super
deekout is a game you can finish/beat or is it non ending with unlimited
levels that gets harder and harder until it becomes impossible?
Can anyone remember light cars from lighttechinteractive? It has unlimited
levels and it gets harder and harder until the cars comes at you with such a
speed that its impossible to play, its a game you can't beat.
I just wanted to know if super deekout is also unbeatable.
something in the manual gave me a slight indication that the game might be
unbeatable. it says: complete as many levels as possible.
I tried to view the deekout scores but I get an error.
I've tried contacting [EMAIL PROTECTED] but I haven't got a response yet.
Dark said dan offers limited e-mail support until he closes his site down in
june. here is the steps I took to try and view scores.
1. I hit www.danzgames.com.
2. I clicked on the link top super deekout scores.
3. I clicked on easy.
and this is the error I'm getting
Warning: mysql_connect() [
function.mysql-connect]:
Access denied for user 'danzgame'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in
/home/danzgame/public_html/view_scores.php on line 15
Unable to connect
can anyone please advise me what this error means and if its possible in
another way to view scores? I've tried sending my score but the game told me my
score is too low. Next I want to revisit the statement I made earlier about the
oil slicks. the cheet which I mentioned only happened to me once. It didn't

score,. could you please share your stats with me? Please if its not p.t please
could josh or anyone please send his stats file to me off-list as the list
can't take attachments.
I just want to compare my stats with other gamers. In this way I can determine
if super deekout is also unbeatable like lightcars.
If the stats says: congratulations you beat the game! then I know its beatable.
If anyone can send me their entire stats file its so much appreciated'.

[Audyssey] mud splat

2008-04-15 Thread 0722001794
HI thom
thanks for forwarding my message to the developers of mud splat. I've lost
your e-mail address. I just need to give one last bit of feedback which I
forgot.
when inside the mud splat game, inside the help system, the woman says that you
can manually save a game such as in the case of where you have collected many
lives.
she says its done by pausing the game with escape and choose the save option.
this doesn't work like the woman explained. If I pause the game and I choose
the save option and I load that game later on, it has exactly the same effect
as a game automatically saved after each session. it doesn't put me on the spot
where I've saved it, it puts me at the beginning of that level.
so for instance if I'm in the toy story on level3 and I've defeated 3 monsters
and I have collected a life and unlimited water, and I pause the game and save
it and later on come back and load it, I'm put back at the start of the toy
story level 3, not exactly where I stopped. Next, I just want to tell you all
how the monsters sounds to me.
I can imagine some of the monsters' shapes by listening to their sounds.
the big monsters I can't really depict a shape. I would say they all have the
shape of dinosaurs. in the middle class monsters, there is a monster that makes
a funny sound like its clucking its tongue.
I would depict that monster as a jelly, green monster in the shape of a jelly
fish. Lets call it a jalatinous blob.
now for the small monsters, here comes some interesting shapes.
there is one monster who makes the sound of a big frog so this little monster
has the shape of a frog. then there is a monster who sounds to me like an elve
so it has the shape of an elve. then there is a monster who sounds like a lion
cub so it has the shape of a lion cub.
then there is a monster which you will encounter from the toy story onwards,
it sounds like a little toy car.
this we can call a little syburg. because it makes this car sound, its
impossible for it to be a monster like the others with skin.
so this monster is a syburg, its paws looks like wheels.
oh yes, there is one big monster I forgot to mention. If you listen carefully
you will notice its groaning sounds like a dor being opened, so I would say
this monster looks like a mutant human.
then back to the small monsters. one other type of small monster I would call a
small mutant human, almost like an elve but just more thwarts on his skin.
Actually there is 3 of them which we can call small mutant humans.
The bosses I would say all have the shape of dinosaurs.
And here's an idea for a new game if the developers' of mud splat considers new
games.
Story line:
The city has been invaded by huge, medium and small fire breathing dragons.
The case is hopeless. All the fire fighters have been killed by large tongues
of fire. You realize that something needs to be done. Putting on special
firefighter clothes, you step out into the city only armed with a water host
and you have to defeat these dragons and save the city. These dragons have also
stoled 5 sonicses which you must recover by defeating them. So in this game you
have to defeat, not monsters but dragons, small, medium and large dragons.
Lets call it fire splat.

Hi Dark

Indeed Mike came through on that command for the characters. I couldn't
for the life of me remember it but knew it was a simple fix. Hate those
moments. Also I agree the game isn't exactly what one may call fast paced,
but the go to command might change this somewhat.

Hi ron.

I did find Nethack just about playable with Hal, but it was difficult sinse
I had to spend ages reading the screen and the command list, and was taking
me so long to do anything that I ended up giving up, appologies for my
lack of patience here.

One thing I did have to do was get the nhaccess file from a previous version
(I think the nethack for doss), and load it into the version I was using,
that fixed all the aski command issues.

Hth.

Perhaps I ought to grit my teeth and try again (assuming the self-voicing
game isn't finished first.

Re: [Audyssey] Self-Voicing Nethack

2008-04-15 Thread Dark
Hi william.

yes, character creation is a pest, one advantage of being an
adventurer's guild subscriber is that things are a bit freeer in this line.
I suggest you just create a character, start out and see where you get.

I'd advise starting out with high high scores in luck, nvr and the combat
attributes, sinse these are fixed, but also make certain that you don't end
up with any minus modifyers to skills sinse they can really effect how much
xp you use later on. Luckily, once you've got a character, your fixed. I've
had the same one now for almost three years (though I haven't been spending
any quality time with her lately, which is a shame sinse I think the
game'shad lots of updates).

Just have a poke around and see what you find, afterall you can always
restart with a different character if you don't like your beginning one,
Ekitrina was actually my third attempt at character creation, and the one
which came off the best.

Hth, I'd deffinately advise you persevere with Sryth, sinse it's a really
rewarding game.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Self-Voicing Nethack

2008-04-15 Thread Dark

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] trupenam2 question

2008-04-15 Thread Andy
I won't garentee nothing, but here's how I do it and I get some
points most of the time. Sorry if there's any difficult to read
stuff, not at my best now. But, your right in tapping the up
arrow continuously. But, also, as soon as you hear your ship
veer don't push the arrow. So for example lets say it's in the
middle and veers left, keep tapping the up arrow until it's as
far left or right as possible, then push the opposite key once or
twice. No more than that.

bonus round works. I've read the manual several times but still
I don't understand it. If I understand correctly the manual
says, you must tap up arrow continuously and rapidly to ensure a
slow fall and you must tap left and right arrow to stay in the
middle.

Re: [Audyssey] trupenam2 question

2008-04-15 Thread Andy
Yeah that's what I do but I wait till the ship goes all the way
to the other side. If it drifts I let it drift till it can't
drift anymore and then tap the opposite key from where it
drifted, if that makes sense, all the while tapping up arrow as
fast as humanly possible.

Re: [Audyssey] Self-Voicing Nethack

2008-04-15 Thread Michael Feir
Actually, all you have to change is the line which tells it to use ibm
graphics. Just make that line say "noibmgraphics" and it will use all ASCII
characters. Nethack is completely playable with Jaws for windows. Especially
now that the autopilot is included in the game, you don't have to worry
about not being able to find the staircases again once you've discovered
them. That used to be a big problem since you couldn't get row and column
information for locations. With the autopilot, you can simply tell your
character to go to the greaterthan sign or to any plus-signs which are
closed doors to explore levels. Hope that helps you get started.

One more item, if you read down in the file, there's the suggestion from
Michael Feir, and under that is where I removed the # signs from.

Hi

What I've done and since it's been awhile from hacking is removed all the
number signs [#] from the lines in the defaults.nh file. This does use asky
symbols. What I've noticed and maybe someone else knows is that they do
seem different from the ones that I recall being in the game a few versions
back. Currently it's version 3.4.3 I believe. It's possible there's
something else one needs to do. Having said that though the game is
playable with jfw. There's always the 'look' command to help one out.

I had hoped that this was the case. But I seem to remember downloading
Nethack and JFW couldn't read the screen correctly. Has this changed?

Re: [Audyssey] Self-Voicing Nethack

2008-04-15 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
