Wel steven, unless you've got a way to tell audio distances more precisely,
say by standing with your wprking ear in the center of the sterrio field
this could be a problem.

Indeed, I'm really sorry to here this sinse sterrio sound is so often used
in a lot of games, especially side scrollers.

Re: [Audyssey] jim's dungeon game

2012-09-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim.

Well, it is easier to play than a standard adult interactive fiction
game, but it also lacks a number of features I've come to expect from
such games too.

For example, in a typical aif gameyou can tell it to kiss, lick, rub
a specific body part and it will perform that action on that section
of the girl's body. Plus normal aif games usually allow you to have
oral, anal, and vaginal sex in multiple positions etc.Not to mention
the goodauthor's will be reasonably good about describing the sex, and
so far what I've seen so far the sex scenes are rather bland in
Dungeon Master. So I think the game could really use more detailed
descriptions and perhaps more commands to keep things interesting.

To be more specific in DM let's assume I go down to use and select
hand. It does whatever the default action is. I'd rather be able to do
things my way such as spank the girl, rub certain areas, finger her
inany order that I like when I like rather than getting the same
default action all the time. Let the end player decide what he or she
wants to do with their hands, mouth, tongue rather than one and only
one way to do things.

Cheers!

Hi Nick.

I know myself that even though there is a lot I'd like to try in miriani,
ship to ship combat, fighting the aliens etc, the constant unregulated pvp
where anyone can blow you up at any time puts me off entirely, sinse I just
am not interested in a game like that, and I don't want to risk all my
progress and equip ment being destroyed by some high level player who was
having a bad day.

I have met several miriani players who made progress in the game, but left
because they got sick of this aspect of things, indeed to my mind nothing is
more! liekly to put new players off than being killed by anyone of a higher
level.

so, while I'm not sure if this is a reason for the decline, if miriani
changed their policy and made player killing an opt in system the way it is
on alteraeon, methinks they would get a lot more interest, starting
with myself.

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's games and Win7?

2012-09-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,

Fair enough. Although, there is a very good reason why Winkit does not
install your files to c:\Program Files. The reason is because that
directory is reserved for 64-bit programs only. The c:\Program Files
(X86) directory is for 32-bit programs and is there for reserved for
backwards compatibility with older 32-bit apps such as yours. That's
why there are two different Program Files directories on Windows
Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 64-bit.

About the only suggestion I have if you don't want to use Inno Setup
is to create two separate types of self-extracting files. One set for
Windows and another for Windows 64-bit machines. It is a bit
irritating for those of us with newer machines to have to fix the
installation path every time we install a game because your setup
files don't identify the right directory, and those people who are new
to 64-bit Windows simply don't know any better and they run into
problems. So it would be helpful if you did something to address this
issue.

Cheers~!

actually the innosetups can be uninstalled unless you tell them not to.
that is you can uninstall a program from its menu by default or going
to its directory manually and running uninst0.exe

At 07:04 p.m. 11/09/2012 -0400, you wrote:

Now maybe if Inno would install my WinKit files to
c:\program files\kitchensinc

That's precisely what I'm talking about. I have both Windows 7 32-bit

correct instalation folder based on if the app is specified as x86 or

advantage of Inno Setup is that you'd actually get an option in
Add/Remove Programs so you don't need a uninst.bat file for each game.

It would be good if there was some sort of save system where I could

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's games and Win7?

2012-09-11 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Thomas,

Really I very much like my idea of just the self extracting zip files thus by
passing the whole Windows add slash remove programs and registry thing, and
then just a batch file to remove the game.

And as you yourself said, you would not develop something for a system that you
could not test it on, right?

Now maybe if Inno would install my WinKit files to
c:\program files\kitchensinc
instead of the
c:\program files(x86)\kitchensinc
And then when my self extracting zip files put the rest of the games in
c:\program files\kitchensinc
It would all be good again for all, even Windows 7 64 bit.

BFN

- Original Message -
Hi Jim,

That's precisely what I'm talking about. I have both Windows 7 32-bit
and Windows 7 64-bit here so I can test it out. It should pick the
correct instalation folder based on if the app is specified as x86 or
x64 in the Inno Setup script. While I'm thinking of it the other
advantage of Inno Setup is that you'd actually get an option in
Add/Remove Programs so you don't need a uninst.bat file for each game.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's games and Win7?

2012-09-11 Thread Thomas Ward

Cheers!

Hi Ron,

No. You'll need to download my 64-bit installer for those voices and
follow the directions given in the Readme.txt file. Basically it
requires copying the cab file from your cd into a temp directory with
my custom installer, installing the voices, and then following the
steps to configure them properly on Windows 7 if you want to use them
in games.

Hi Keith,

It almost looks as though it can't find the home page. Try something like
http://www.kitchensinc.net/index.html
and see if it actually works this time. Also you might want to reset
your Internet Explorer settings to default because you may have
changed something that is blocking the website for some reason. Also
have you tried using another web browser such as Firefox, Opera,
Chrome, etc with any luck?

Re: [Audyssey] a bone to pick

2012-09-11 Thread Raul A. Gallegos

Hi, I'm coming in a bit late on this thread. Here's what I can add.

It got changed for the simple reason that they suck and are not as
accessible for newbies to subscribe, unsubscribe, etc. Now, if everyone
were to donate just 1 dollar to the list, the cost for it could be paid
for and it would cover more than one year of access. Just one dollar
from each of you can do this and then maybe things can be changed,
assuming it's what Tom and Damion decide.

Hope that helps.

   Hi Darren,

Well, there are a few good reasons for not increasing the message size to 20
KB.

First, is financial. Whoever maintains the Audyssey domain, server,
and list will have to pay for extra bandwidth being used by the list.
The larger the messages the more bandwidth it will take for Mailman to
post several copies of the same message. That cost will directly
effect the guy who is paying for the Audyssey domain, bandwidth, etc.
That happens to be Raul, but there has been discussion of turning the
list over to me so I can just put it on the same service plan as my
USA Games account. Therefore the cost would be my responsibility.

Second, is that the larger the size of the messages the more time it
will take Mailman to post that message to everyone on the list. I
realise an extra 10 KB doesn't sound like much on the surface, but is
actually quite a lot if you sit down and do the math.

For example, let us say that 50 messages are posted to the list on a
daily basis. At 10 KB that will equal something like 0.5 MB coming
into Mailman. Now, Mailman has to copy and repost all 50 messages to
300 list members which adds up to something like 150 MB in messages
going out. Now, let's add an additional 10 KB of length to all 50
messages and watch our output go from 150 MB per day to 300 MB per
day. That's something like 9 to 10 GB a month in messages alone.
That's a dramatic increase that Mailman has to handle when we can cut
that in half by limiting the message length to 10 KB.

Finally, increasing the size doesn't resolve the initial problem being
discussed here. Allen wanted to know if a message was rejected can he
get his original message back. The answer is no, because the software
doesn't support that option. Therefore if a message is 21 KB in size
and the maximum length is 20 KB someone is still likely to complain
about the fact they lost their original message simply because he or
she didn't trim the message in the first place. So increasing the
length from 10 KB to 20 KB would not resolve the issue being discussed
and would add additional problems for the list moderators and
   maintainers in the process.

   Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Problems with Jim Kitchen's website

thanks I'll give it a try.

To Keith,

You could try the following diagnostic tests to try and identify why you
can't get to Jim's website, an then fix the problem:

1. Temporarily turn off your firewall and anti-virus software and see
whether you can navigate to the site. If you can, check out whether Jim's
site is on a black list of 'bad sites'. Turn your firewall and anti-virus
software back on again straight afterwards without going to any other
page.

2. Check the entry in your hosts file to see whether the IP address
assigned to Jim's site is pointing at your local host. To do this, you
need

to find your hosts file. It's location depends on your operating system,
but on XP systems it's usually located here:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\

The file is called "hosts" without an extension. Open it using notepad.
If
it's very large, it might take a long time to open. When it does open,
use

the find function in Notepad to search for:

www.kitchensinc.net

If that URL is listed in your hosts file, there will be a four part number
before it which is the IP address. See what that number is. If it's
127.0.0.1 (or something similar) then that's your problem.

To correct it, you need to delete the whole line from the file.

If it's another number, and you're not sure what it means, then just
delete

the line anyway, no harm will be done.

Save the hosts file and close notepad.

Reboot your computer (to flush the hosts cache) and try again to navigate
to

Jim's site.

If this still doesn't work, you can try a further step as follows:

Navigate to your desktop and find My Computer. Bring up the context menu
with the Applications Key and select Manage. In the tree view, select
Services and Applications, and right arrow, and then select Services. Tab
to the list view on the right, and cursor down until you have selected
the

service called:

DNS Client Service

With this service highlighted, bring up the context menu with the
applications key, choose Properties, and tab to Start Up Type, and select
Disabled. Tab to OK and press enter.

Reboot your computer, and then see if you can get to Jim's website now.

Either way, you may or may not notice a difference in performance by
disabling your DNS Client Service; if you do, you may need to put it back
to

either Manual or Automatic.

These steps are for XP but I understand similar principles apply on other
versions of Windows so you should be able to use this to work it out.

3. If the above hasn't helped, you could try other things such as
re-setting your router but that's not something I could advise on.

Hope this helps.

Phil

Hi Jim,

I didn't think it would be. Antivirus programs generally do not stop a
person from accessing a website. Although, it would help if Keith
would post the actual error he gets rather than assuming everyone
knows what he is talking about. The error code is important for
debugging the problem.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's games and Win7?

2012-09-11 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Thomas,

Thank you very much for the answers to my questions about the Inno installer.
I had not looked at the Inno documentation, my assumptions were based on how I
saw it used by others.

Truthfully I do not think that it is that big enough of a problem for me to
repackage Awesome Homer, Baseball, BattleShip, Black Jack, Bop It,
Concentration, coupling, Craps, Draw Poker, Dungeon Master, Football, Golf,
Hangman, Homer on a Harley, Life, Mach 1, Mach 1 tts, Master Mind, Monopoly,
Pong, Puppy1, Reaction, Roulette, Simon, Skunk, Slot Machine, Snakes and
Ladders, Spanker, Star Mule, Strip war, Triple J Shooter, Trivia game engine,
Trucker, Yahtzee, Braille reference guide, Brain, Reader, Waver, Batting
practice, Golf course maker and monopoly board maker.

The only problem is that on some computers, that is ones running Windows 7 64
bit there are two folders. I think that the Microsoft install program in my
winkit.zip file is still good as are the rest of the self extracting zip files.
But now if Inno could simply extract the files as WinZip does, but
automatically figure out if the files need to be extracted to
c:\program files\kitchensinc
for computers running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista and
Windows 7 32 bit, but then extract the files to
c:\program files(x86)\kitchensinc
for computers running Windows 7 64 bit then I would think about it. But I
don't know as I do not have a Windows 7 64 bit computer to test it on.

Hi Greg,

Cool, was your score around 82 thousand?

And thank you very much for saying that you like my Dungeon Master game.

Now I've got to get back to work on the rooms in the dungeon that you will get

Hi Shaun,

Yes Sir, you can finish Dungeon Master. I have the elevator not working yet,
because I plan to add many more rooms down in the dungeon, but I did make it so
that one can finish the game the way that it is now. But I do plan to move the
cell phone down to somewhere in the dungeon in the next release.

2012-09-11 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Shaun,

Hmmm, not sure why the dung37.wav file did not play when you used the hair
detangler on Rapunzel. Seems to be working for others.

Yes, in the game you do need to do some things before you can do other things.

Why would you not be able to walk from outside the castle gate out into a road?

The game does say that the castle does look to be several hundred years old, so
the game is in now time. And yes there are still horse and buggies. Not so
many still in Chardon, but right next door in Middle field, Parkman etc. Large

[Audyssey] Where can I find the Nameless Game?

2012-09-11 Thread Keith
Hi, I looked up Nameless game on google, but I found a flash based free game
that is graphical in nature. Is this the one that has been talked about
recently on this list, or am I missing something? I'd like to check this
game out.

Also, if anyone has any ideas on "dungeon" type adventure games, I'm all
ears. I know of entombed, Sryth, Alter Aeon, and the Zork types of games,
along with Jim Kitchen's Dungeon Master. I'm more into sword and sorcery
myself, but any thing along those lines would be of great interest to me.

Thanks

Keith

Hi Jim,

I didn't think it would be. Antivirus programs generally do not stop a
person from accessing a website. Although, it would help if Keith
would post the actual error he gets rather than assuming everyone
knows what he is talking about. The error code is important for
debugging the problem.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] unseen pressure switch level struggle

2012-09-11 Thread dark

Hi joseph.

If that is the level I'm thinking of, You need to learn the layout carefully
including where the stone is.

If I remember rightly the pressureswitch is in the top left corner near
where you start, and the stone is bottom right.

What you need to do is move right into the main room, then head down until
you find the stone (use the touch command to find it sinse you don't want to
walk into it by mistake and push it the wrong way).

Get on the bottom side of the stone and start pushing it upwards until it is
on the same row as the pressure switch (I don't remember how far this was
exactly but you may need to count the rows as you move vertically up them, I
believe there were four but I could be miss remembering that).

Then, get on the stones' right hand side and push left until it hits the
switch.

Hth.

I will admit I didn't find that level too bad myself, but then again I've
played the very similar graphical game Sokoban, which is I believe what the
rocks in unseen and the idea of pushing them from one side is based upon, so
I do have something of an advantage.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

hello has anyone played the unseen game and beaten the pressure switch
level where you have to move a stone on the switch in order to open the
gate? if so how do you get the stone and get it on the switch and get to
the gate without knocking stone off?
