[Audyssey] question about manamon navigation

2016-07-25 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi list,

I am not sure if the manamon creators will respond to this,

but I have a question, I have read the documentation so I am fairly sure
the answer is no, but is there a key for telling you if you have visited
a location before or a coordinates system?

if not, is this just because they haven't been put in or is it down to a
limitation of the BGT?

I really feel that the current navigation system isn't adequate
particularly for large maps, e

I have got to floor 2 of the minereff tunnel, it took me at least 4 or 5
hours to get off the first floor, and I only found the second by chance,
and I certainly couldn't find it again easily, and now on the second I
am again wondering in circles, keep ending up at the ladder to the first
floor.

I would also like to see some system for controlling how frequently you
are attacked, its quite boring being attacked, having to hit enter to
open the combat menu to be able to then select the flee option.

I know a game is supposed to be challenging but the navigation simply
isn't fit for purpose for very large maps and this is getting beyond
challenging its getting to the annoying and not well thought out stage.

I actually don't think listening for tones to stop to tell you about a
new passage is a good system anyway because it can be hard to tell if a
tone has stopped or if you have missed a passage and even if you find a
passage if you have been in it before, I do know there are two types of
tones and I have experimented with both, I would like to see a
coordinates system, a visited location key to see if you have been there
before, and maybe even a breadcrum system so you can mark locations.

sorry for the rant but I would like to see some sort of improvements to
assist with navigation, the game has been very well thought out and
designed though.

Alex.

Hi Ian,
this again shows how silly the puzzles in this game are,
I have got past the point you are at, but I did it buy using the cheat

I used the cheat system so not quite sure how this works, but basically
you have to get a gold key to unlock the central bolt, and to get the
key you have to get a gold leaf and put it on the alter and the leaf
transforms into the key, I mean silly or what?
I think for the alter to exist you also have to plant the seed from the
apple in the foggy clearing.

I think most of this game is ridiculous and not well thought out.

[Audyssey] assistance with puzzles in the inquisitor 3 audio game

2014-10-01 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi list,
I am steadily working my way through the inquisitor audio game, the
third in the series sisters in dream, I think a lot of the puzzles in
the game are quite silly and not logical so I have used the cheat system
rather a lot.
However I am at a point where I am rather stuck and the cheat system is
of no help.

spoilers below,

I am at the bit where I am in the place where you have the apple with
the 5 holes, and you can put the seed in 4 of them to move between
several different scenes.

Putting the seed in the first hole does nothing.
I have managed to get the egg from the statue, then I placed it under
the blanket, and it said a strange ball came out of the egg, however I
didn't pick it up and it wasn't on the ground for me to pick up.
I have got several different spheres all with different maps on, and
this is where I am stuck.

I have tried using the spheres with the apple but that doesn't work.
When I use the cheat system my inventory is opened and the apple is
selected but I can't go into the first hole, and I think I have done
everything I need to in the other scenes.
Any help would be appreciated, I don't mind games where puzzles are
logical etc, but the ones in this game are mostly quite stupid in my
view like the one with the waterfall or using the plant to beat the
priest, I mean who would think of using the option take waterfall? for
example,
but anyway any help would be appreciated with what I do with the spheres
and how I get into the first hole on the apple, feel free to be as
spoilerish as you like.
I want to complete the game to see how it ends but I wouldn't say I am
enjoying it because of the crazy puzzles.
I guess the apple and the snake have something to do with the creation
story in the bible, for me the game plot isn't really flowing and hasn't
been particularly well written, I mean going from greek gods to the
christian creation story?

it would definitely be good to make contact with lorenzo some how, as

I did try searching the audyssey archives to try to find his e mail

[Audyssey] help contacting shard workshop

2012-11-17 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi list,
I am wondering, does anyone have a contact e mail address for shard
workshop? or its owner lorenzo which I guess amounts to the same thing.
as I bought zero site recently, and would like to make contact with the
developer,
but the documentation says to use the forum which according to the
website is disabled, perhaps the documentation should be updated to
actually give proper contact information,
as the website doesn't provide e mail addresses either, and lorenzos
official website link on the homepage is broken as well.

I have a few questions and suggestions for the developer and a few
problems as well, as I keep getting lots of errors to do with sounds,

I have also had trouble with the engines turning off and not coming back on.
I also find the games coordinate system very confusing and would like to
suggest adding in some kind of autopilot system to make navigation easier.

Thanks for any help,
Alex.

Re: [Audyssey] the Iphone cometh

2012-11-09 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi dark,
I am sure it would be fine for you to buy the phone from apple then get
some kind of sim free plan separately.
Its certainly worth you persuing the vat free option as for example, a
sim free iPhone with 64 gb usually costs about £700.
If you get it without vat its about £560, so a big saving as I am sure
you can appreciate.
Some apple stores are not aware of the phone being vat free for blind
people,
but I know that my local store is, and so are the ones in belfast and
covent garden so if a store says to you that's not right about vat free,
just try different stores til you find one that is aware,

but from what I hear the majority of stores do seem to know about this.

Re: [Audyssey] the Iphone cometh

2012-11-09 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi Dark,
did you ask for the phone without vat?
As if your deaf or blind in the UK you have the right to by any Apple
products vat free that include features such as VoiceOver or adaptations
for the deaf both of which the iPhone have.

This doesn't apply to accessories though.
You get a significant saving if you can get it vat free about 20 percent
off.

Pretty much most Apple stores are aware that you are entitled to the
phone vat free, I believe you have to fill out a vat exemption form, but
the savings are worth it.
The reasoning you can get the vat off is because of the adaptations
apple builds in such as VoiceOver, zooms and compatibility with hearing
aids.

Re: [Audyssey] Smugglers 5 Beta released

2012-10-05 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi,
I haven't played the beta myself, but I do have a suggestion that I
found helps considerably with navigation in smugglers 4, so I see no
reason why this wouldn't work with 5.

I found that the hotspot clicker jaws scripts worked very well with 4.
For those who don't know, hotspot clicker is a set of very advanced jaws
scripts that allow you to define at there simplest areas of the screen
to be clicked on with a hotkey.
If you want to get more advanced, you can chain spots together, to
perform several actions at once, or alternatively one after another
automatically in sequence.
In this way, you could set jaws up to click parts of a screen in
sequence, so for example to click an option to do something, and then
automatically click the OK button to confirm the action.
I set up a lot of keys for smugglers 4, hotspot clicker is very useful
in a lot of applications,
You can also set the scripts up to monitor for changes in colour,
piccsle, it can even automatically scan apps for unlabelled tooltips and
try to label them for you.
Its functionality is so complex and varied I can't do it justice in a
short message, I would suggest check its website out for more information.

it is
http://hotspotclicker.org/
Hope people find the above useful,
Alex.

Hi Dark,
well I am an atheist so I think that there is no such thing as an after

I think either we stop existing entirely, or maybe we get absorbed into
the environment and affect the atmosphere of a place.

I certainly don't think we reincarnate or anything like that.

Re: [Audyssey] N A Soft is back and I'm looking for some, , , testerswith Braille displays

2012-08-07 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi Dark,
just curious, what engineers have there been in the past who are blind?
I can't name that many historical famous blind people.
I know of I think a handful, Louis Braille obviously, John Millton, then
there was the king of bohemia think it was in the 12th or 13th century.
To give him credit, he lead his army into battle and was promptly cut
down unsurprisingly.

I don't think I can think of any others off hand.

Regarding your view of death, I think I two wouldn't want to be around
after an apocalypse, i'm not quite sure how I would end things,
unfortunately all the so called painless methods take skill to get
right, and I certainly wouldn't want to hang myself.

I look on death as like going to sleep, as I never dream, so for me
sleep is pretty much like ceasing to exist.
We are only around for a short time, the world got on fine before I
existed, and will do again when I am gone, also I never had any
awareness before I existed, so death shouldn't be that bad.

Re: [Audyssey] N A Soft is back and I'm looking for some, , testerswith Braille displays

2012-08-07 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi Dark,
lol, your message made me smile, the part about the early humans.
To respond to it, if we are playing the what if game, if we had an
apocalypse we also wouldn't have the equipment for making frames and
styluses lol.
I suppose your right though, in an apocalypse I suspect almost all blind
people would probably struggle to adapt, and almost certainly starve to
death.

MM, interesting concept for a game perhaps?
I guess I just think that communication is so important that we
shouldn't turn our backs on a non technical means of both reading and
writing, after all how many blind people speak from the pages of history
before braille? How many could set there thoughts down without help? The
answer, none.
Even great poets like John Millton were reliant on other people for
setting down there words and reading them back.
The important thing about braille over other skills that use technology
is that some of us could probably adapt, and at a pinch learn to cook on
fires etc, whereas we definitely couldn't adapt and learn to use a pen
for writing at any great length, at least not those who have been blind
since birth.
Though I have heard of cases where people who lost there sight later in
life have been able to carry on writing with a pen and the aid of rubber
bands.
It also goes without saying we definitely couldn't access print material
in a post apocalyptic world, and at least to my way of thinking braille
would be the only sensible efficient way of reading independent of
sighted people in that situation.

Re: [Audyssey] N A Soft is back and I'm looking for some, testerswith Braille displays

2012-08-07 Thread Alex Wallis

Hi list, I have been reading this thread with interest.
speaking as someone who grew up using braille for the hole of what in
the UK is known as primary school, and in the US as elementary school as
well as for part of my secondary or highschool education I certainly
think braille will not be as widely used as it once was in the coming years.
I actually only started learning how to touch type at the age of 12, and
didn't start using computers in education full time til about the age of
15 or 16, there use greatly helped me do things faster and of course the
internet definitely increased access to information, I well remember the
challenges of trying to read huge textbooks or locate sections within
them quickly.

However, I think as has already been stated Braille still has a use in a
minority of areas such as learning languages etc.
One thing I don't think has been covered though is the fact that through
our increasing reliance on technology and the decline in the use of
braille we are in some ways inccreasing our dependence on the sighted
world dramatically.
I say this, because all our technology we use, computers etc relies on
power, now lets imagine that tomorrow the world ends and the lights go out.
That then puts an end to pretty much any electronic technology, no more
ebooks, no more e mails, no more texting from your mobile device of choice.
In that situation, sighted people will be able to pick up print books
for there reading needs, and pens or pencils for communicating or just
keeping diaries or records.
Those blind people who know braille will still have methods of accessing
information and writing information independent of sighted people,
whereas those who don't know braille will be extremely reliant on
sighted people for reading and writing.
I also might be totally wrong about this, but I am sure I read about a
blind judge in South Africa who helped the apartheid resistance by
passing information in Braille, it was either that or Nazi resistance, I
am sure a bit of googling could find the information.
Just as a side note, I am in the UK, and I have found it difficult to
get repairs done to my brailler, I phoned the local blind society and a
few other organisations, but none knew of anyone who could help me, and
it will be a real nuisance to pack it up, address it and send it to the
rnib to see if they can make repairs to it.
Admittedly it was my own fault for trying to braille on a card that was
two thick that has made it jam, but I was only previously using it to
write a few birthday and christmas cards, so I am wondering if its
really worth me getting it fixed.
The point I am simply trying to make is that the skills for maintaining
equipment seem to be lacking, I mean you would think a blind society
would know of people locally or nearer than the RNIB who could make
repairs for me.

these are just my thoughts,
Alex.

[Audyssey] thoughts on getting dos football game running under iOS

2012-05-25 Thread alex wallis

Hi list,
on an old dos computer I still have from the early 90s, I still have an
old football club management game, called soccer manager, made in about
1991 I believe, by new era software.
The game is entirely text based, the idea is that you are the manager of
a football club, you can't actually control players while they are
playing matches,
but you can influence all other aspects of club management, which will
affect how the matches go, so for example resting players when they are
injured, upgrading your clubs physio,

add seats to, or remove seats from your stadium,
by and sell club shares to raise income,
by and sell players on markets, place bets on matches and probably lots
of other stuff I have forgotten.
Basically the idea is about controlling practically anything to do with
football club management but you don't have to really know much about
football.

You can even create your own custom teams and players if you like.
\so, would there be any interest in me approaching the guy who ported
desteno games to iOS, and see if he might want to give this game the
same treatment if its possible.
I have no idea how practical making it run under iOS would be, but
thought I would throw the idea out there just to get an idea of interest
before approaching him.

[Audyssey] audio wars, jaws support?

2012-03-21 Thread alex wallis

Hi,
not sure if the audio wars author keeps up with list traffic, but if you
do, I am just wondering, will you be adding jaws support to audio wars?

as I don't particularly like relying on sapi or NVDA for voicing games.
I know a lot of developers find it hard to add jaws support to games,
perhaps developers who have managed to do so should place example code
on there sites for others to use, as I think I am right in saying the
games which do have jaws support all pretty much used code from the same
person or people.
Also, the AI isn't very inteligent at the moment, do you plan to make it
a bit smarter?
over all, I do like the game though, its fun and I am looking forward to
seeing what happens in the future with it.

Re: [Audyssey] Blind Gamers Being Taken Seriously?

2011-12-18 Thread alex wallis

Hi,
I always check messages after I have finished them, to make sure they
are readable, and in case I want to add anything extra in.
As far as spell checking goes, I actually don't use an in built spell
checker for checking my typing, unless I am in word for example.
A far more useful application I have found for checking spelling, is
called tiny spell, and this functions as a spell checker throughout
windows, and it makes the computer sound a chime sound whenever it picks
up on a spelling error, its particularly useful in situations where you
normally wouldn't have a spell checker, for example in skype or msn
chats, or even when trying to do an on line search as it just sits in
the background.

I also use it for auto capitalising the first letter of sentences.
I have a set of jaws scripts as well for the program, which give several
options for getting jaws to spell spelling suggestions as you arrow over
them, as it does in word.

The program is quite good, I do sometimes have to use word or even
google if I can't figure out a particular spelling and tiny spell can't
get it either.
If people want to try the program, there is a free and a payed version,
though I think the scripts only work with the payed version, due to
differences between both versions.
The scripts are not publicly available for download, a friend wrote them
for me a few years ago, but the site he made them available on was taken
down some time ago, but I would be happy to send to anyone who wants them.

tiny spell can be downloaded from
http://tinyspell.numerit.com/
the free version is just called tiny spell,
the paid version is called tiny spell plus, but the word plus is
actually a + symbol.
I find using the scripts useful, as it helps me learn where I make
common mistakes rather than just going down and selecting the correct
spelling, I like to listen to it to know for next time. There are also
several different dictionaries that can be used with it, depending on
your language.

Re: [Audyssey] Silversword is not the game for the blind.

2011-12-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
from reading the message that you were sent Michael,
it sounds like that the guys issue is not that he has stopped supporting
accessibility,
he wants two things, firstly he wants you to leave him alone about
accessibility, as quite rightly he doesn't want accessibility to take
over game development at the expense of other features.
and also he doesn't like your signature advertising the system access
network.

I think part of the issue could also be down to communication problems,
as correct me if I am wrong, but Michael, your grasp of English does
seem a bit shaky some times, so perhaps also you misinterpreted the
message you were sent.

I have to say, I also agree your signature constantly advertising system
access is annoying.
So I think you should reply, and say thanks for the e mail, and also
appologise for your spam signature which I think you should get rid of,
from e mails and forum posts. You should also get rid of it before
replying to the games author.
You should reply to him though, so he knows you are still happy to talk
to him if, he needs you, but this is important, after replying to his

I have also noticed, that you do seem to become obsessed with games very

There is nothing wrong with a hobby, but also you shouldn't nag people

These are just my thoughts, I hope they don't upset you or anyone.

[Audyssey] what other old dos games would people like to see ported to the iPhone

2011-11-30 Thread alex wallis
Hi list, I just sent this message to the viphone list without thinking,
grr I hate it when I do things like that, I just filled in the address
on autopilot without thinking.

just thought I would throw this question out there to see what sort of
replies come in,

what other old dos games would people like to see ported to the iPhone?
of course we shouldn't expect lots of games to now suddenly be ported to
the iPhone, I doubt the developer who ported the 6 games we currently
have will

port every possible game under the sun.

Speaking for myself, one game I would really like the ability to play on
the iPhone is called humbug, its interactive fiction, but unusually the
guy who

wrote it didn't use a standard IF language, I think he wrote it in pascal.
In fact he wrote several games, which he has now made freeware, though I
don't think he released the source code to any of them.
Jackaranda jim was also another funny one he did, though I was never
able to beat that one.

Humbug was cool because of the way all the puzzles were interconnected.
Of course I can't use any of his games under windows 7 because it won't
run 16 bit applications, but I have an old dos pc which I keep just for
old games,

its about 15 years old and still in full working order.
To be honest I probably wouldn't play old dos style games that much, but
they would be cool to have around for long car or train journeys.

Re: [Audyssey] The app is finally here!

2011-11-30 Thread alex wallis

Hi,
thanks for your reply, I actually didn't see any dialogue asking if I
wanted instructions when I first ran the game, but that was because I
was two impatient when the copyright notice came up.
I am using a bluetooth keyboard, I hate the iPhone virtual keyboard with
a passion, the only time I sometimes use it is when entering passwords
as then I can be certain I am selecting the right letter.

But normally I only use a bluetooth keyboard.
I ran the app again, and was able to get the game started this time.
I had a thought, obviously you have to respect the authors original
copyright, but due to the limited screen space on the iPhone, perhaps
you could put the copyright stuff under a separate button, called
copyright information or something.
Besides, lets face it the games are so old, I doubt the author really
cares what happens to them now, and I guess he must be amazed people
still play them.
How many people have downloaded the app so far? I know the itunes store
does keep track of numbers of downloads, but I have never scene this
statistic on any app pages I have viewed in the app store.

Re: [Audyssey] The app is finally here!

2011-11-30 Thread alex wallis

Hi,
I am probably looking in totally the wrong place,
but how exactly do we play these games? I did play the pc versions back
in the day, so am interested to see how this app performs.
I have been able to launch the app, and select what game I want to play,
but then I can't figure out how to actually start the game.
The game I have been trying to play is the destination mars game, and I
can get the screen up showing the copyright notice, and the restart game
button, but can't work out what to do from hear, there doesn't seem to
be a start button or anything as far as I can see.

[Audyssey] question about silver sword rpg game for iPhone

2011-11-24 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I have been a bit slow at keeping up with list messages of late, and am
now just getting back into it.
I have just been reading michaels messages regarding the silver sword
rpg game for iPhone.

My question is, when you say its an rpg game, does that mean you have
full 3d movement and can walk around levels and locations etc?
or is it more in the style of a game book game where you make choices at
particular points in the game, weather to attack, talk to people etc. or
is it similar to the game king of dragon pass, which I am still getting
to grips with, but having a lot of fun doing so.

Many thanks for any help,
Alex.

[Audyssey] question about input methods for swamp

2011-11-14 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I guess this question has been asked before,
but is there a way I can play swamp without the mouse?
I realise that the mouse is more accurate than keyboard navigation,
however I am playing on a laptop, and so only have a track pad.
also, I can easily see myself clicking outside the window and opening
other stuff on the computer, plus, I guess I am just lazy and would
rather use the keyboard.
perhaps some alternative keystrokes could be added such as control for
firing your gun etc,
of course I guess movement will be a bit of a problem given the arrow
keys control radar functions, but I would really rather use the keyboard
for navigation and firing of weapons.
I just had a thought, perhaps alt and the arrow keys could be added in
to allow for navigation with the keyboard. so alt and up could move you
forward, alt and down could move you back, and alt left and right could
side step you.

[Audyssey] managed to crash swamp game

2011-11-14 Thread alex wallis

Hi,
I guess this bug is probably known about,
but I thought I would report it anyway.
I just managed to cause a bad swamp crash.
I did this by trying to change output from sapi to jaws,
I assume jaws support hasn't been built into swamp, or support for any
other screen readers.

I pressed tab a few times, and then swamp totally crashed.
then for some reason, without me pressing the keystroke to do it, the
windows task manager popped open, and I found it very difficult to close it.
any chance support for jaws could please be added? as I hate sapi, and
would rather use jaws when possible.

Hi Jeremy,
that's a shame you won't be working on the game, it actually did sound
like it could be really cool, especially with the different weapon
choices and skill set choices.
will you reconsider, and actually think about turning this into a proper
game if there is enough demand from the community?
I could see it having a lot of replay value if you actually did develop
it further.

[Audyssey] another bug with raid groups in castaways

2011-10-13 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I have another bug to report with raid groups in castaways.
when the raid group comes back from attacking the city, and you try to
send out another group, you get told that you already have a group out
on a raid, even though the group in question has returned.
in fact, so far running castaways 2.6, I am only able to make one attack
against the city, and then can't send any more troops to attack it.

also, I have noticed the reporting of injuries and killings when
assassins turn up is very mangled, as often people are reported as being
injured or killed several times in the same report which makes it very
confusing.

the bug is that if you send a raid group out to attack the yetty city,

[Audyssey] question about placement of walls in castaways

2011-10-11 Thread alex wallis

hi list.
I am just wondering, how does the placement of walls work in castaways?
do walls always have to be built between things so for example two bits
of forest or two rocky fields, is building the wall between two objects
what determines what direction the wall is facing?
so for example, in mission 5 I am putting walls round my survivor camp,
are these walls going to form a square to seal the camp in.

so for example,
my survivor camp is at g9,
and I am placing walls at g8, f9, h9, and g10.

[Audyssey] new castaways disaster suggestion

2011-10-11 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I just had a cool idea for another disaster that could be added to
castaways.

what about having the possibility that your cook could burn down the tavern,
and on high difficulty levels, you could add in that the tavern could be
burned by the fire, and also buildings in other squares surrounding it.
and maybe for the insane difficulty level anyone eating in the tavern
when the fire starts would have a 50 50 chance of being injured or killed.

I think that could be a really fun disaster.

[Audyssey] bug with castaways and peasants supplying buildings

2011-10-11 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
the following bug is still present in castaways and has been for some time.
if a building is destroyed, peasants still try to deliver supplies to it.
for example, my tavern was just destroyed, and my peasants still tried
to deliver food to it a minute or so later.

and it wasn't old messages that hadn't been played,
as it said peasant has dropped off meet at the, and didn't say the word
tavern.

[Audyssey] suggestion for improving reporting of troop numbers in castaways

2011-10-10 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I am playing the current castaways, and I just had an idea which I think
would really make managing troops easier.

at the moment when you go through the different jobs you are told how
many of each type you have.

now, this is my idea.
in the case of troops, because training takes a while to happen, could
we also be told after the number of fully trained troops you have so
many being trained.

so for example,
you might be told you have 3 soldiers and 2 being trained.
I could then use that information to easily work out which bits of my
army need reenforcing,
because at the moment you have to go into the soldiers list and try to
add the numbers up, which isn't easy when you have a lot being trained
at once.

[Audyssey] suggestion for improving message handling in castaways

2011-09-18 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I am playing a game with about 70 people at the moment.
I saw a message a while ago from someone experiencing huge message
delays in a game, and she speculated it was because of the number of
people she had in her population.
I two am now experiencing this, and I wonder if it could be a
combination of the number of people, and also the number of events
taking place in the game at once, for example zombies advance on to the
land very quickly.
so I think either something needs to be done to improve reporting of
messages.
alternatively another thought I had, is add a keystroke to flush the
message buffer and delete all queued messages.
as for example, zombies burned down my tavern, I heard that message
fine, but I find frequently if I go to put up a building, it gets
destroyed but I don't get the message about the destruction til 5
minutes, sometimes longer after the event, this was the case twice when
I tried to rebuild the tavern.
if we had a flush message buffer key, this would at least allow us to
clear it completely so we can get a more accurate picture of the situation.

[Audyssey] suggestion for changing the way doctors heal people in castaways

2011-09-17 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I am still playing castaways mission 4,
and I think from playing it quite a bit a change really needs to be made
to the way doctors heal people.
at the moment, they heal people in the order they become ill, now OK,
that's fine when you don't have plague to deal with.
however, once plague gets hold of your population healing in the order
people get ill makes no sense at all.
as if this was a real life situation, doctors would be wanting all the
help they could get, so surely would concentrate on medical personell
first in order they can help them out later with the rest of the population.
as it stands, once plague takes hold of your population no matter how
many doctors you create and upgrade, you are basically screwed because
they get the plague soon after, and although they may heal the odd
person chances are your doctors are berried right at the back of the queue.

so of course you create more doctors til you run out of useable peasants.

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games for android

2011-09-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi Daren,
well to save you hunting around, I will provide you with the names of
the keyboards I have found so far,

one is called the nuu MinniKey,
another is called the tk421
and the third is called the
buddy case, and is available from
www.boxwave.com
apparently this particular keyboard has a version 1 and two, with two
having a layout similar to a regular qwerty keyboard, though unlike
version 1 it doesn't have a dedicated number row, this particular
keyboard sounds interesting though as aparrently you can get 45 days
worth of battery from one charge. Having said that I read a very damming
review that totally slammed this keyboard, so I am not sure as I have
read equally positive and negative ones about all of the ones I have
listed so far.

I have read reviews of all of these keyboards, and they all sound very
different to each other, with advantages and disadvantages to each.

One thing that does concern me about the I phone is interacting with the
touch screen on a call, for example when trying to interact with a menu
driven phone system.
I recently got a nokia e7, running talks and I have decided to sell it,
as I just wasn't able to find the numbers on the touch screen for
dialing in pin codes for my bank and voice mail, it was just two slow,
and I was getting cut off or transferred to operators.
having said that, one thing that really got in the way on the phone was
having to tap a virtual soft key to even bring up the keyboard before I
could even start trying to find the numbers.

mm perhaps we should either start a new thread or take this off list, as
I suppose it is going way off topic for android, and also we don't want
to annoy the mods, what do you think?

[Audyssey] castaways suggestion for disposing of useless people

2011-09-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
Just a thought, I am in the middle of playing castaways mission 4, and I
had an idea for population control.
at the moment, we have the ability to destroy buildings, and I think it
would be cool if we could kill off parts of our population in the same way.
for example, I am at the stage with stocking the ship, and I only have a
handful of peasants, but I have a lot of useless upgraded people of
various types.
so rather than wasting time building more houses, it would be good if I
could dispose of these useless people for the greater good of the
population.
that way I could get new peasants etc without having to feed the useless
architects etc.

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games for android

2011-09-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi daren,
I am now really considering the I phone, as I found out about several
cases you can get for the I phone that come with built in blutooth
qwerty keyboards,
from reading reviews, they all sound like they have advantages and
disadvantages over each other.
do you think using one of these cases would make game play easier? the
reason I really didn't want an I phone was because of the touch screen,
but it looks like this issue is at least partly solved.
have you or anyone else reading this had experience of these combined
case keyboards?

[Audyssey] bug with castaways gramma

2011-09-15 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
another little bug I just noticed with castaways in general,
when the game has to refer to 1 person, it says 1 people instead of person.
so for example all my population had starved to death and I had one
person left, so I did shift t to find out energy levels, and it said 1
people instead of person.
I also have another suggestion, when you press shift t to find out about
energy levels, instead of saying you have 0 people, perhaps it would
make more gramatical sense if it says no people when listing energy
levels so for example, no people between 10 and 20 percent.

[Audyssey] bug with castaways mission 4

2011-09-15 Thread alex wallis

hi.
I noticed a slight bug with castaways mission 4.
when the zombies turn up on your land, and you press shift g, you are
firstly told there are goblins on your land, and then the location where
the zombies are.

and then, at the end you are told there are no invaders on your land,
lol.
I think it would be good, if we had access to tuda houses in mission 3
as well as 4.
in fact, perhaps it would be good if we could build walls and tuda
houses in all missions.

[Audyssey] help locating soft key 5 on the nokia e7

2011-09-15 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I have two questions for nokia e7 users.

firstly, although I am able to make a call on the e7, if I get through
to one of these menu driven phone systems,

talks says soft key 5 for dialer.
I assume this is to bring up a keyboard on the touch screen showing
numbers that can be dialed into the phone.

could someone please tell me how do I locate soft key 5?
as I have tried a few times, but for example with my voice mail system,
it cuts off before I can locate the soft key and press it in order to
open the dialer to input my pin number.

on a related issue, when I put the phone to my ear to hear what is going
on, the proximity sensor switches on and disables the touch screen to
avoid triggering functions accidentally with your cheek.

so do I just use the unlock switch to release the screen?
I can't remember if someone said you could dial extensions from the
qwerty keyboard, if this is possible I suppose I could do that, but its
a pain to have to open the phone up just to dial in a pin number or
interact with the banking system.
I am beginning to seriously wonder if the e7 is worth bothering with, as
I found my texting speed is about half that of the e90, when I am
writing, plus at least when using talks its so easy to trigger menus
opening etc, the screen isn't well designed at all, a candy bar style
screen would have been much better.
but I have decided to switch over to using the e7 for a week, and only
use my old phone if I am going out where I will need a phone it is
certain I can operate.
at the end of that time, I will decide if I want to keep it or not, but
I think I am leaning towards selling it.

though I haven't thought through what I might get instead.
I would like an I phone as it would be so cool to be able to play games
on a phone, but apple seem obstinate about not doing a version with a
qwerty keyboard because steve jobs hates physical buttons. I could get a
blutooth keyboard for it, but it would just be extra equipment to lug
around and keep charged, and it wouldn't be so easy to just stand around
and text as with an in built keyboard.
I suppose I could go down the android root but I don't know two much
about it. but I think long term symbian is a sinking ship as I believe
it only has another 3 years or so of life in it.

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games for android

2011-09-15 Thread alex wallis

Hi sean,
I did a bit of googling last night, and ran across stem stumpers, which
is available for I phone and android, but to date that is the only game
for android I have come across, and it doesn't even sound two exciting.

you are right about symbian being discontinued in favour of windows
phone 7, and although I just got a nokia e7 to try it out, I am
beginning to feel its more hastle than its worth, as the keyboard part
just isn't well designed, its so easy to knock the touch screen with
your hand while texting.
and although with mobile speak this isn't a huge problem, I do find the
home screens on symbian 3 pathetic, only being able to have 4 shortcuts
per screen is just stupid, and both mobile speak and talks don't read
all icons on the home screen, plus interacting with a phone switchboard
system isn't very easy, especially selecting numbers on the touch
screen. although I could open the phone to physically dial in the
numbers once on the phone I don't see why I should have to.

the I phone is tempting, but I don't like the voices I have heard so far
on it, and although I guess I could get a blutooth keyboard, its just
more equipment to lug around, and I would need to keep it charged up.
plus I couldn't easily stand around in a public place and text with it
like I could do with a phone that has a physical keyboard, as I would
have to have the I phone in one hand, and keyboard in another.
unfortunately I think its unlikely the I phone will ever get a physical
keyboard, given that steve jobs hates physical buttons, and feels that
devices should be asthetically pleasing and easy for the sighted world
to use.

[Audyssey] accessible games for android

2011-09-14 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I am just wondering, are there any accessible games for the android
mobile phone operating system?
I see there is a list for I phone and I pad on pcsgames.net, but haven't
scene much about android.
I am considering ditching symbian in favour of this OS, as I am not
finding talks very easy to use on a touch screen phone, and the same is
also true of mobile speak.
I have no intention of getting an I phone, as I don't want to go purely
touch screen, so I am now considering android. also of course symbian is
being discontinued in a few years in favour of mango which currently has
no accessibility, so I think it might be time to leave the sinking ship
of symbian.

many thanks for any help,
alex.

[Audyssey] sound for closed buildings in castaways

2011-09-02 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I think it would be quite useful to have a sound for when a building is
closed and you go over it,
as sometimes I close my tavern after it is stocked so peasants can do
other things.

however, I frequently forget it is closed til people start dying.
so it would be quite good to have a sound to indicate a building is
closed, and perhaps also a message to let you know the tavern has run
out of food. this would be particularly useful in mission 3 as resource
and people management is key for this mission.

Re: [Audyssey] slight bug with castaways window title

2011-09-01 Thread alex wallis

Hi jeremy,
I understand why there is a blank space when hitting tab, perhaps I
shouldn't have put two issues in the same message.
the bug I wanted to report was that once you have changed the speech
mode, even when jaws support is active, the actual title of the
application window says window eyes support, rather than castaways.
interestingly, this is only an issue when you first change the speech
output method, if you exit and reload castaways the title is back to normal.

so it looks as if the problem is only when the change first takes place.
also, what did you think of my idea to add an option to hide mission
intro messages? as you didn't comment on that from my other message.

[Audyssey] suggestion for handling castaways mission intros

2011-09-01 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I just started playing castaways 2.0, and a thought struck me about the
mission intros.
firstly, an option to disable showing of the mission intro would be
good, as for those who have heard it several times it can be a bit
tedius reading it again and again.

also, something else I have noticed,
particularly in mission 3, when you first start the game, you are read
half of the intro, and in order to read the rest you have to unpause the
game, when the rest is displayed.
surely it would make more sense to display all the mission intro
information in one go, so that as soon as you unpause the game, you are
not bombarded with the rest of it as that wastes time.

[Audyssey] slight bug with castaways window title

2011-09-01 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I just downloaded castaways version 2.0, and I jjust noticed something
which I think has been present for several versions.
basically you press tab to change the speech mode which castaways uses,
and the first time you press tab it doesn't say anything.

however, you press tab again, and it says jaws.
however, if you then press insert and t to read the title, the
application window title isn't read as castaways, but as window eyes
support.

not a big thing, but I thought I would point it out.

[Audyssey] better control of troop training in castaways

2011-08-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi.Hi,
I am still playing mission 3 in castaways, and I must say I think it
needs some serious rebalancing, at the moment I think its unbeatable.

but anyway that's not why I am writing,
I am writing to ask could we have more control over troop training?
as at the moment, the game seems to automatically assume just because
there is armour at the barracks I want anyone I tell to be a soldier to
become a knight.
I really think that the military jobs need to each have there own
categories, so soldiers, literally meaning ordinary soldiers, a specific
category for knights, and all other military units should have there own
job types.
as I frequently find myself in the position where I am building up spare
stockpiles of armour, and yet I don't want people to become knights just
because the armour is lying around I would actually like to be able to
set what military unit people become.

[Audyssey] bug with peasants and construction sites in castaways

2011-08-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I am just playing mission 3 in castaways for the first time,
and I have just noticed a bug with peasants.
I am sure this must have been reported, but I thought I would send this
just in case.
at the moment, I have the enemy sitting on my land, they have burned
down all my buildings, as well as the ones under construction.
I have just scene several peasants try and drop materials off at
projects which have been destroyed.

so a typical message I got was that x dropped lumber at the.
literally that kind of message, no building type was given, it just said
the I guess because whatever the project was in question they are trying
to drop stuff at no longer exists.

[Audyssey] arrangement of buildings list in castaways and a suggestion.

2011-08-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
just a bit of a suggestion regarding the building list in castaways,
at the moment, the order of the list seems a bit haphazard,
for example, I think that all the farm types should be listed right next
to each other,
at the moment you have meet and vegetable farms, and then right near the
bottom of the list is the animal farm, I think this should be grouped
with the other two farms so they are next to each other in the list.
I think in fact, that the buildings should be grouped in the order that
they depend on each other,
so for example, I would have the butchers shop, then the textile, and
then the hospital, and other buildings that depend on it.

I think also that the vinyard should be listed next to the tavern.
and also perhaps the tannery should go next to the monastery as again
they depend on each other.

I also had another idea when playing mission 3,
I think because the maps are so big, and it can take some time to
explore them, I think a really useful feature would be a terrain
location mode, so lets say I am at a1 and want to quickly find the
nearest site to put my quarry, I could bring up a list of terrain types
and find out where the nearest bit of forest, rocky ground or empty land
is etc.

alternatively, I did think of another job that could make this more of a
useful in game feature,

that of an explorer or cartographer.
OK at the moment you can arrow around to find things, but if you had an
explorer or cartographer, you could find out from him where the nearest
bit of forest is or whatever, and a benefit of having him could be that
all your peasants and builders move around quicker, as he could advise
on the quickest root.

I certainly think a quick terrain location feature could be useful anyway.

[Audyssey] suggestion for building constructions in castaways.

2011-08-10 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I am just writing as I have a suggestion for building construction in
castaways.

could the close feature be made to apply to buildings being built?
this would be useful, as I frequently find my builders carrying on
building something, when I would rather they revert to peasants, because
they can finish the building later.
the problem is, its often easier to leave everyone as builders, and
being able to close a building mid construction would make control of
what your people do much easier, as at the moment, your builders won't
become peasants til the building is finished.

also, I noticed a slight spelling mistake in castaways,
I think you missed an extra r out of quarry as its pronounced quarry,
but jaws says quary in the list of building choices and whenever the
word is used.

[Audyssey] suggestion for castaway faults purks system

2011-08-09 Thread alex wallis

Hi,
just an idea that I thought of with castaways,
at the moment we can only select a fixed number of faults, starters and
purks.
so, my idea is still leave the minimum numbers of faults, starters and
purks,

but give the option of selecting more of any of them if you want.
I think it could lead to more interesting games, for example I would
like to be able to select light lunch, and the fault that makes your
people burn food faster without wine.

[Audyssey] question about the 7 128 game book and jaws

2011-07-31 Thread alex wallis

Hi list,
I am just wondering, does anyone know if there are compatibility issues
between the 7 128 game book and jaws, or between it and windows 7 64 bit?
as I start the game up, and I find that I can't get jaws to read me any
of the menus when it is loaded, and when I switch to sapi, its very
sluggish and unresponsive. It worked fine under xp, leading me to think
there must be an issue somewhere with windows 7 or something.

any help with the above issues would be really appreciated, thanks,
Alex.

[Audyssey] castaways, noticeable performence issues when graphics are on

2011-07-29 Thread alex wallis

Hi,
I just thought I would say in the latest castaway, there is a noticeable
slow down in the game tick sound on blazing when graphics are enabled.
I didn't even know there were graphics now in the game, I certainly
don't think they should be on by default, as most players on this list
are totally blind so its a bit pointless having them on by default it
uses resources.
though I certainly think having graphics is a good idea for any sighted
players out there.

I just thought I would let you know about the performence issue.

[Audyssey] question about new professions in castaways.

2011-07-29 Thread alex wallis

Hi,
just wondering, what do new professions do, such as architects? are they
designers?

I upgraded a builder to one, but he didn't seem to do anything.
also, I had one builder who I couldn't make change jobs, it said he had
been specially trained.
I was only able to get the monks to start working, when I closed down
everything, so all the peasants could do was go to the textile, until
then my monks didn't do anything.

which other jobs can be upgraded apart from the builder?

Re: [Audyssey] question for those players of smugglers 4

2011-07-28 Thread alex wallis

Hi dark,
thanks for the reply.
I had forgotten you needed to close the intro message before you could
pull up game options.
My god, this guy is a sloppy programmer, he clearly doesn't use captions
in his code to set a proper window title.
If anyone is interested, I am using a very powerful set of jaws scripts
called hotspot clicker to make playing smugglers easier, buy setting up
hotspots for the combat system, and also to make activating blind
players mode and getting into the options menu easier.

it means, no more hunting around with the jaws cursor to find things,
now when I start the game, I can just hit alt and c to close the intro
message, alt and o for the game options menu, and then alt and b to
activate the blind players mode.
and no need to go hunting with the jaws cursor at all, it saves a lot of
time and frustration.

[Audyssey] question for those players of smugglers 4

2011-07-27 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I have a question for those of you who have played smugglers 4 by neils
bower games.
I bought the game ages ago, and gave up with it as the screen just
looked a total mess with jaws, but things seem to be a bit better now, I
don't know if that's down to different display settings or what.
but anyway, could some kind soul please tell me how do I access the
options menu, in order to turn off the stupid game music which drowns
out jaws almost completely, and I want to enable the blind players mode.
unfortunately I can't seem to find an options menu even after starting
the new game.

any help would be very much appreciated.
I know its possible as I think I did it years ago, but now I can't
figure it out.

Hi damian,
if you could please upload the savage gamut bundled in its new
installer, I would appreciate it, as it looks like nobody else hosts it.
the link on the audiogames.net site which points at your site is broken,
you might want to speak to the person who runs it about getting the
games entry updated and that link either modified or taken down.

[Audyssey] looking for an old game the savage gamut

2011-07-24 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I guess this is a bit of a longshot, but I am looking for an old game,
no longer available on the net, I believe due to the authors website
being hacked.
It was called the savage gamut, and was a boxing game. It had a stupidly
complicated interface, I bought a copy years ago, but I guess I must
have lost it in one of several harddrive crashes over the years.

does anyone by any chance still have a copy of this game?
as I am starved of entertainment, and thought I would try it out again.
I dug up the old training program, from a backup, but can't find the
full game installer.

thanks for any help,
Alex.

[Audyssey] random idea for a crime game.

2011-07-21 Thread alex wallis

Hey list,
I was just thinking over what happened with Thomas, and that how him
coming back on list is great for the community.
Then I suddenly thought and also now he won't be remembered as another
James north.

And then sort of off the back of that,
I thought now wouldn't that be an interesting action/ puzzle solving game.
The main character could be a detective, hired to track down a game
developer who has ripped off loads of people,
and this isn't a VI developer particularly, it could be sighted or non
sighted doesn't matter.
Anyway, the object of the game would be to track this person who has run
off with all the money, through levels of car chases, jumping moving
trains, bars full of unsavery people, the list is endless. there could
be all sorts of obstacles and traps.
I am not a programmer, but I just suddenly thought, interesting idea and
thought I would share it.

Hi.
I am playing castaways on hard difficulty,

it just suddenly stopped, and nobody did anything.
I have saved the game, and can send to you if it would be of any use.

[Audyssey] bug in current castaways with stocking ship

2011-07-19 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I am playing with the latest version, and the ability to close farms
really is useful. one thing I noticed though is that on farms, the
message is wrong it still talks about peasants bringing supplies when
you close or open it, when it should talk about farmers harvesting.

anyway, I just found this issue with stocking the ship.
I got to about 46 meet, and peasants are still bringing meet, but the
number has stopped going up.
I also had several messages about peasants bringing vegetables to the
ship after it was fully stocked.
I wonder if what could be happening with the vegetables, is that
peasants just grab the nearest item and so even when the ship is fully
stocked they still try and drop there vegetables off rather than going
to get something else. so if peasants are still carrying vegetables
after the ship is stocked they try to deliver them.
I don't know what is going on with the meet though, I have watched two
or 3 deliveries without the number at the ship increasing.

I have the game saved if this is of any use.

Re: [Audyssey] farm management in castaways

2011-07-17 Thread alex wallis

Hi dark,
that's the point, you can reassign farmers sure, but you can't control
what the remaining ones are going to do.
so you could still easily end up in the situation where your farmers are
wasting effort grabbing vegetables etc, when you would rather all
farmers concentrate on wine production instead of gathering weat or
vegetables.

my point is I think the farmer needs to be much more flexible.

[Audyssey] farm management in castaways

2011-07-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
Just another suggestion, but I think there should be an option on farms
to stop peasants harvesting from them.
as I have had a few situations in this current game, where I have had
say 100 flower and over a hundred vegetables.
obviously that is quite a lot, and I don't need more of said materials
for a long time.
so it would be nice to be able to shut down particular types or indeed
all types of farms, in order that peasants can do more useful things.
the close option doesn't apply to farms as they don't need supplies, so
I would like to see some way to shut farms down.

[Audyssey] bug with production of materials

2011-07-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I just found a rather serious bug with production, at least I think its
a bug.
the issue is as follows, I assume this problem probably affects all
second and third stage jobs.

I noticed it however in the production of cloth.
I suddenly realised that my taylors kept weeving animal fur into yarn,
even though the textile had the maximum possible yarn, so the yarn the
taylors were weeving was literally disappearing.
of course, this meant the amount of yarn never went down, and the
taylors never wove the yarn that was already there.
In the end I closed the textile to new supplys, but I think this is a
bug that should be fixed.

[Audyssey] suggestion for improving building management in castaways

2011-07-16 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I am just writing, as I am in the middle of a game of castaways, and I
had a thought about ways to make it easier to keep track of what might
be needed in the game.
That is, could we either have a new keystroke, or it given as part of
existing information, to find out how many of each type of building
there are?

I think this would be particularly useful in the case of houses and farms,
as I am having to go and recount every so often, and it is time
consuming going through the buildings list.
I would just like to be able to hit a keystroke to find out about
numbers of any building, and then have shift d and f to arrow through
them to find out there location on the map. perhaps alt d and alt f
could be used to let you arrow through your buildings and find out how
many of each there are.

[Audyssey] prioritising tasks in castaway

2011-07-15 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I am in the middle of another game of castaways, I am not doing two
badly, I have built the ship, but my peasants aren't stocking it, they
are still carrying stuff to the tavern, and the baker hasn't done
anything though I think it might be because they didn't finish the mill.
I can't be bothered to go hunting all over the map to try and find it.
Having said that, I am getting warning mesages about people being on the
verge of starving, and then they seem to feed themselves up a bit and
stagger on.

anyway, this brings me on to my suggestion.
Its great when peasants or builders decide to help out with other jobs,
but there are times when I would like to tell say a bunch of builders
who are transporting stuff to stop that, just leave the stuff where it
is and go and finish the existing building projects off.
as there have been a lot of times where building work is half done, and
yet the builders have got side tracked on to shifting stuff around.
I think it would also be good if you have several building projects on
the go if you could say to your builders that you want building x
finished before building y etc.

Hi,

they are not listed in the control panel, and I am beginning to really

also, going off on a bit of a tangent,

this is just a suggestion, but have you tried talking to jason, the

[Audyssey] question about farms in castaways

2011-07-15 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I know what the two farm types are for in castaways,
however I do have a few questions.
How much stuff does each farm produce? I am wondering so that I can keep
my number of farms in proportion to population size. obviously I assume
the more farms you have the more farmers it is better to have, so that
one farmer isn't rushing between say 10 farms.
I guess a similar question applys to the output from vinyards and
bakeries, how many people can the output from one of each support.

same for hunters, how many people does each kill they bring back feed.
many thanks for your help,
Alex.

[Audyssey] help with lunimals mission 5

2011-06-12 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I got lunimals figured out after aprones explanation.
However, I could do with some help for mission 5.
I am part way through the mission, and I have to have populations of at
least 10 cats and kamen.

I have 21 turtles left over at the start of this new section.
I have tried selling them to raise cash and bying fish, but the kamen
quickly eat all of it.
I also tried leaving the turtles as food for the kamen, but again no joy
the kamen all died, same when I tried leaving a mixture of fish and turtles.

I am having a similar problem with the Cats.
As soon as I get any mice, they get eaten or die, same thing, eventually
the cats all die.

I don't get it, as I have trees all over the land area.
And I believe the mice like acorns.
Thanks so much for any help, I am really stuck.

[Audyssey] assistance playing lunimals

2011-06-12 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I gather I am a bit late to the party, and the new game everyone is
talking about is this time travel game, which sounds seriously fun, and
I am going to check it out.
However, I am currently writing for some help playing lunimals, as I do
like the idea of being able to play god.

basically, I read the readme file, but am still really none the wiser
where to start with the game.

I select the lunimals executable to run it, and then it says I am on the
main menu or something, however, I am unable to arrow through it, when I
press tab though, jaws says something about message box support, and
then dome editor, ok.
and then I can sort of arrow around, but this dome editor, ok button
message thing keeps following me around, and I can't get rid of it.
Also the choice I made with tab, the screen reader support or message
box support keeps being read as well.
So I would really appreciate some help, as it looks a really cool game,
its just jaws doesn't appear to like it.
Of course once I do get jaws settled down, can I have some suggestions
how to get started?

Many thanks for your help,
alex.

[Audyssey] looking for terraformers audio game

2011-06-10 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I am wondering, does anyone know where I can download a copy of the
teraformers audio game?
I bought a copy years back, but the site that used to host it appears to
have abandoned the project, or at least no longer hosts the files.
I was never able to complete the game when I last tried it, mostly
because I lost patients with the awfully slow walking, but I feel like
giving it another go.

Many thanks for any help,
Alex.

[Audyssey] assistance using hotspot clicker to make a game more accessible.

2011-04-11 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I am wondering, are there any people on hear who are familiar with using
hotspot clicker?

I would like to use it to make a game easier to navigate.

the game I would like to use it in connection with is aurora, which
requires a lot of navigating around with the jaws cursor, to click on
very specific parts of the screen,
so I suddenly thought hotspot clicker could be very useful with this
game as I could set up hotspots on the areas I would frequently need to
access.

Setting up the hotspots is easy, however there is a problem with them.
That is, depending on what you click on, hotspots can be moved several
lines down the screen, and so although you can set them up and they work
from one location, if you then try to click them after accessing an area
of the screen, its possible they have moved, and you will click the
wrong tab.
So, I am wondering, does anyone on the list who is familiar with either
hotspot clicker, or jaws scripting no of a way I can set my hotspots up
to take account of them moving around on the screen?
I also thought hotspot clicker could be very useful with other games,
such as the smugglers series from neils bower, and maybe the tv manager
games if they are accessible.

Thanks for any help,
Alex.

[Audyssey] where do I start with Aurora

2011-03-15 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I just came across the Aurora game on the pcs games website.
I must say the game sounds like it is going to be really fun, I always
love the idea of playing strategy games, particularly if this one is as
involved as it sounds.

Is the game fully accessible to jaws?
Also, I have gone through the game setup screen, and managed to get into
the game,
but to be honest I am feeling a bit lost, where exactly do I start and
what do I do?
I tried looking at the tutorial on the sites wiki, but that only seemed
to go as far as game setup.
This sounds like a perfect game for a podcast from a more experienced
player, in fact probably it could do with a series of podcasts it sounds
that detailed.

[Audyssey] problem installing all in play software under windows 7.

2011-03-05 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I am wondering if I can get some help installing all in play software
under windows 7 64 bit.
I have tried e mailing and yesterday telephoning technical support, but
have received no response to either commmunication yet.

the problem I am facing is this,
I start installing the all in play software, and then it gets to the bit
where it has to install the jaws scripts for the program.
however, I then get an error message about it not being able to find a
path its looking for,
I suspect because it is trying to install the scripts in the location
where a 32 bit version of jaws would be, which of course it isn't, as I
am running 64 bit jaws which is installed in a different place,
The error message is as follows if anyone has any thoughts about how to
deal with this I would be very interested, as there doesn't appear to be
a brows button or anything, and all in play have remained silent to date.

Setup
Unable to execute file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\12.0\scompile.exe
CreateProcess failed; code 2.
The system cannot find the file specified.

Re: [Audyssey] accessible console games

2011-02-27 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
I have never tried mortal combat, I may have to look into that one.
I know they do have at least one of the sports packages, I can find out
which one.
Has anyone recorded podcasts with commentaries about playing any of the
sports games, or the mortal combat games? As I assume its a question of
needing to learn what the different sound cues mean.

also, what is you don't know jack? I haven't heard of that one.

[Audyssey] accessible console games.

2011-02-26 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I am wondering if I could get advice from the list about accessible
console games.
My nephews recently got a nintendo ds, one of those llittle portable
consoles, and also a wii that hooks up to the tv with the remotes you
can wave around etc.
I am wondering, what if any games are accessible for both consoles, as I
would love to be able to play a few games with them on either.

Thanks so much for your help,
Alex.

[Audyssey] assistance with playing time adventures

2011-02-26 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
Wondering if anyone can help me out with a fairly old game, time
adventures which used to be distributed by code factory.
I am at one part in the game, and I can't progress, I am not sure if its
me who has done something wrong, or if the game is just buggy and I will
have to start over again.

I dug up the clue book from the audio games.net forum, and had a look at
the thread where someone was experiencing the same issue, but no
solution was posted.
The section I am having problems with, is when you are back in ancient
griece, and you have to finish the statue and borrow the crane so that
two of the guests can go to the party.
the clue book states I need to talk to the architects assistants, but he
doesn't appear to have any assistants to talk to, or at least they are
not mentioned on the menu of options.
I tried to take the crane, and got two different lectures about not
touching it. and I have tried talking to the architect several times.
the first time he said I couldn't have the crane, and the second he
declined the invite to the party, so then I talked to him a third time
and it was the same conversation with him declining the invitation.
I tried to build the statue, but he hasn't asked me, so of course I
can't do anything with the wax etc.

any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Alex.

[Audyssey] problems running towers of war strategy game.

2010-12-12 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I am wondering if I could please get some help running the towers of war
strategy game?

I am running windows 7 64 bit, and basically can't get it to run.
When I press enter on the executable, or right click and select run as
administrator, nothing at all happens, I don't get any gui, or even any
error messages.

I tried installing jim kitchens winkit as the author says that will
install the required vb 6 runtime libraries, but it still won't run.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

[Audyssey] using a program called art money for game cheating.

2010-01-13 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.
I was wondering, does anyone have any experience of using a program called
art money for cheating in games?

for example you could use it to give you unlimited health.

basically it allows you to search the programs memory for particular values
you are interested in and then change them accordingly in memory.

when I have completed a game, I use a program called game cheater which does
the same thing as art money, as it can be fun some times.
however game cheater is quite old now and compared to the features art money
offers I believe is quite limited, also it doesn't appear to have been
undergoing any development for several years.

I installed art money, and had a bit of a look at it with jaws and window
eyes but it doesn't seem very accessible at all.
I am sure some time back I saw a post on the audiogames.net forum from
someone who used art money,
but I was just wondering if anyone on list had managed to have more luck
with art money than me or are we stuck with out dated game cheater, I will
probably post this to the audiogames.net forum as well.

Re: [Audyssey]   turning monitor off during pc use

2009-09-21 Thread alex wallis

Hi.
just to jump into this thread, I can fully understand where the original
poster is coming from.

I am now 23 but at the time was 18.
I really enjoy playing all in play, which does not use real money for
gambling.
However I would frequently find my brother would come in and say something
like are you gambling again and frequently my parents would ask me for
reassurance I wasn't gambling.

In fact, once my father came in saw I had a bet for like 2 chips and
basically said to me to prove to him I wasn't gambling.
He basically said if it wasn't real I wouldn't mind disconnecting from the
game mid hand.

I did and of course lost my chips but I was quite annoyed.
Luckily soon after I moved to a laptop and now my family don't usually come
down and look at its screen.

But my mum some times asks me what I am doing.
If anyone knows of a program I can use to switch my laptops monitor off I
would be very interested to know as its none of there business what I do at
home, It of course goes off after inactivity but I would like it off
completely.

[Audyssey] fs2004 using the ATIS

2009-08-03 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.

I am wondering if someone could please tell me how I go about getting the
ATIS working in fs2004?
I am programming in the weather to fs2004, I tell it to use the real world
weather updated every 15 minutes, and this is downloaded into the simulator.
however, I then get to the point where I want to use my radios, I start
hitting 1 waiting for something to happen after pressing the ` key and
eventually I begin the process of starting the takeoff making my initial
contact to file my flight plan. But for some reason I get no ATIS, I am sure
I must be missing a trick, because I have listened to nicks podcast about
the basics lots of times, and I guess I must be missing something as it just
sounds to me like he is pressing the ` key, then jabbing 1 a few times to
get the weather. But to be honest I found that hole beginning section of the
podcast confusing, I would actually really like to see one that simply
covers communications in great detail right from before takeoff to
throughout a flight to landing.
As his podcast kind of starts in the middle as far as a flight goes, and he
doesn't give much commentry especially while getting clearance and finding
out about the weather.

I am also wondering what do I do with a lot of the information the ground
gives me when I contact them? which is very hit and miss for me as I can't
get used to the radio lol.
I am talking about when it lists several runways for example like runway 1
runway 2 runway 5 and goes on about taxying? I mean I know what taxying is,
but why the mentioning of all the different runways?

I think if a podcast was done that actually picks apart the communication
piece by piece line by line that would be extremely helpful as I know about
things like setting the squork but other things are still not clear to me
lol.

[Audyssey] question about switching IYP back to on line mode.

2009-07-31 Thread alex wallis

hi list.
just wondering if someone could tell me how I can switch IYP back to on line
mode?

as I used it a few days ago without an internet connection, so it went to
off line mode.
I am sure when I registered I saw a checkbox for off line mode, but now I
can't find the checkbox in question.

so I am wondering could someone please tell me how to find it? or if there
is a voice command to reenable on line mode.

I have looked at the manual, but I do find the command tables very hard to
navigate. so I would really appreciate any help.
