Hi Dark and others

Maybe today isn't my lucky day. I used the link from your message,
but still when I go to run the game it first asks to select the
language. I've not yet found the way to tell it I want English. Tried
using the arrow keys, tab, and simply hitting E but to no avail. I'll
keep at it but no thoughts what else to attempt.

Thanks much

I haven't written up some formal news yet but I think people are going to enjoy
this one, two gamesin one fantastic package both of types we have been
interested in for ages, from a new French developer.

http://pragmapragma.free.fr/crazy-party/

the hole game is called crazy party.

Part of the game, (the crazy party bit), is a mario party style set of
minigames. These are small arcade games combined with a board game. Play in the
single player adventure mode to go through different zones and try minigames,
then play the boards where you earn coins.
Unlock enough minigames and you can play competitions online against other
people, both minigames competitions and play on boards.

Then, there is the card battle part.
this is an rpg strategic battle card game with rules similar to pokemon but
using a pack of crads.

Fight your way through several gyms for each card type and earn cards by
efeating all the enemies in the gym to improve your dec and stratogy.

Warning, this one takes some playing and experience, though it can also be
played online against other people when you've got far enough and beaten enough
gyms.

I confess I'm totally addicted to this one, so feel free to come and give it a
try.

All the best,

Dark.

Chillingham By Bavisoft
Walkthrough By Michael Barnes

You start in the village, inspect the well. You'll find a rope so take the
rope.
Go to
Lily's house, inspect the desk and closet, take the hook and bottle,
Then go to

the village.

Go to the church, take the candle, go to the village.

Go to the pet store, talk to the professor, inspect the sign, take the
balloons,

go to the village.

Go to the antique shop, talk to the shop owner, go to the village.

Go to the library, inspect the books until you find the rain dancing
book, you
will not have to take the book because it will put the book
automatically in

your inventory, go to the village.

Go to the antique shop, talk to the store owner and select "yes" to take
care of
the termites left arrow will spray the termites on the left, up arrow
will spray

the termites in front, right arrow will spray the termites to the right,
After you have taken care of the termites she'll give you some stakes
which you
will not have to take it because it will be put in your inventory
automatically,

go to the village.

Go to the antique shop, inspect the desk, go to the village.

Go to Lily's house, inspect the desk, inspect the secret drawer, you'll
find a
key take the key, use the key with the trunk, take the pistol and map,
go to the

village.

Go to the antique shop, talk to the store owner and select yes and take
care of
the termites again, she'll give you some silver bullets which you will
not have
to take them because they will be put in your inventory automatically,
go to the

village.

Go to the road that leaves the village, take the flowers, now go ahead
and use
the pistol with the silver bullets, use the rope with the hook, when you
use the
items together you are combining them so they can work together, when
you get
stuck in a battle with witches, vampires, and werewolf's, you move the
crossfire

to your left by pressing left, you move the crossfire in front of you by
pressing right arrow if the crossfire is to the left and pressing the
left arrow
if crossfire is on your right, you move the crossfire to the right by
pressing
right, if you are playing the game on hard you have to move the
crossfire one
extra place which is far left and far right, to select the correct
weapon for
the enemy you press down until you have select the right one, to attack
your
enemy you press the up arrow, the stakes sounds like wood and they are
for the
vampires, the pistol sounds like a click and it is use with the
werewolf's, and

the water balloons are for the witch they sound like a water sound.

Now I will tell you how to get the water balloons, go to the swamp, use
balloons
with swamp which will turn the balloons into water balloons, use the
bottle with

the swamp which will make a bottle of water, go ahead and use the bottle of
water with the flowers which will make perfume, go to the road.

Go to the big tree, use the rope and hook with the big tree, take the
branch

that fell, go to the road.

Go to the swamp, use the branch with the raft, just like the termite in the
antique shop left will attack the alligator on your left, up will attack
the

alligator in front, and right arrow will attack the alligator to the right.

When you are done battling the alligators you will come to the other
side of the

swamp.

After the hermit talks to you, use the candle with the campfire, use or
go to
the raft, battle the alligators again until you have gotten back to the
swamp,

go to the road.

Go to the big tree, use the lit candle with the lantern, go to the road.
Go to the village, go to the pet store, talk to the professor, select yes,
he'll give you some jars which will automatically go in your inventory,
go to

the village.

Go to the road, go to the big tree, use the lantern, use the left and right
arrows to move the crossfire and the up arrow to catch the bugs, the bug
hunt

works just like when you are fighting the werewolf's, witches, vampires.

After catching the bugs, go back to the pet store and talk to the
professor,

select yes, and go back to the big tree.
Catch the bugs, go back to the pet store, talk to the professor, he'll
give you
a dog whistle that will automatically get put in your inventory, select
yes, go

back to the big tree.

After catching the bugs go back to the pet store, talk to the professor,
select

yes, go back to the big tree.
Catch the bugs, go back to the pet store, talk to the profess

So, my vote goes first on continuing things as is, though perhaps with

Hello all,
When Thomas went into the hospital some month's ago I was tasked with
moderation of this list, but the day-to-day operations and
maintenance fees associated with keeping the list alive were still
his responsibility.
With his passing, it falls to me as the one that was in charge to
decide next steps for this really really awesome list and how we wish
to proceed from hear on out. But since their are so many members on
this list, I look to you, the membership for your ideas and
suggestions. Running a list of this size requires time, (of witch I
have plenty of), and financial cost both for archive disk space,
downloads that may be on audyssey and bandwidth for it all.

SO I look forward to your suggestions and ideas.
Sincerely,
Shane Davidson

It's fun, albeit I found it a little too easy. I actually need to put
some batteries back in mine and give it a go.

One thing which I thought was cool was that the English version had
obviously been done for Britain specifically, so as well as some
general popular phrases like by the power of grayskull (I liked that
one), and in space nobody can hear you scream, it also had some
specific ones from Uk programs like who's line is it anyway or I have
a cunning plan :D.

All the best,

Danielle et al;

I actually just purchased one on Amazon this morning in light of our
conversation! :)

The one I got was about $32 USD and there is a gold edition for $64
or so. I have no idea what the difference is and could not glean it
from the description. So, since I know I enjoy the original, I went
for that one.

So there are a number of sellers on Amazon which still do sell the game.

If anyone needs a linkie I am more than happy to post one but it
should be really easy to find.

I just searched for ‘Say What game’ and several hits came up.

Cheers!

The balls represent words or phrases and you have to remember the
sentence and try to put the correc balls in each slot. Pretty cool and
we all enjoyed it. If the link is still in working order somebody did
a podcast of It on BlindCoolTech. That is where I heard of it and went
out and got it. What ashamed Larry and his crew aren't doing anymore
podcasts that was my favorite site to visit regularly and learn. I
especially enjoyed the soundseeing tours he and his girlfriend Liz
often did. I don't have it in my possession anymore though. It should
still be made. Let me know if you find it I'd like to get it again!
There are very few off the shelf games for us.

Hi Sharon and Marty,

Say What rocks!

A couple I know has it and they bring it over with them when they
visit. The

game is a blast! :)

You are given a phrase which is out of order and you need to
rearrange it
within a given time limit. You do this by removing physical balls
from the

game itself and then replacing them back in the order you choose.

Each ball represents a word or part of the phrase and yes, the game
does

speak the phrase that you have created by moving the balls around.

So it is pretty funny when you mess it up. (as you are very likely
to do at

least once in a session)

I am not sure if the game is still made but I believe it is.

To Marty’s question, as you probably already know, there are ‘Say
What’ type
games on the App Store, but I do not know whether they are
accessible or

not.

Have a great night All!

Cheers!

I just want to mention this new beta by game madness interactive on list, as
its mostly being discussed on the audiogames.net forum.

Its currently somewhat similar to entombed in gameplay, and is in the early
beta stages (yes, this means crashes!), but its got a lot of potential, and
at the very least is a distracting few minutes here and there.

I've played it several times now, and only had one crash that wasn't
explicitly mentioned in the game's manual, which I've never managed to
duplicate.

Well worth a look.

this other individual but I want to know that I'm not sending someone

Hi Dark,

As usual, I respectfully disagree about some of that :)

Granted, it would be much much simpler to send electronic content in
to a bunch of organizations and let them handle production. The same
could be said for the print and Braille versions. Tbh, I've got
nothing at all against the idea of trying that first to keep the cost
to a minimum. It might work, and then everyone's a winner. However,
what I suspect you'll find is that unless you've got a personal
connection with someone at each organization or someone there who
already digs audio games, it's fairly likely that the electronic copy
will get filed away somewhere and not distributed to the people they
have contact with beyond an initial run. Before audio paid the bills
here, I worked for a few charities, and saw this happen many times. It
might not turn out to be practical for the community to produce hard
copy, but if there's any way to make it so, I think that hard copy
would stand a higher chance of reaching relevant people, because
reclaiming cupboard space is often a higher priority than keeping the
network drives tidy in many offices nowadays. A cynical view perhaps,
but like I said, I've seen it happen enough to believe it.

Two thoughts spring to mind about a synth narration. Firstly, we're
coming at this as people who use a computer for hours each day. Most
of us probably have a favourite synth that we're comfortable with, and
most of us have probably reached a point where we naturally tune out
the robot voice and just process the words it's churning out. That's
not the mindset of people when they're less familiar with computers.
Having crunched the numbers in previous jobs that had audio versions
of newsletters that were narrated by synths, I can tell you that the
response was pretty low and the dissatisfaction was pretty high. I
used to work next to a chap who had plenty of people on his books that
would prefer to call him every month to find out what was happening
rather than listen to the newsletter, because the synth did nothing
for them. Synths haven't gotten markedly better since, and our target
audience seems likely to be of a similar mindset, so I suspect that
even though it'd be easier, it'd be something of a waste of time to
produce an audio version that wasn't narrated by an actual human.
Secondly, can you imagine the debate surrounding choosing which synth?
*shudders*

Regarding trailers or at least some content specific to audio not
being necessary, that seems akin to saying "well ok, we'll put out a
print version, but we're not doing any formatting specific to that
version, nothing to draw peoples attention to the takeaway points if
they're skim reading". It just doesn't make sense for people not to
hear some actual audio gaming taking place given that they're
absorbing information in the perfect context when they're listening to
a CD. It's like the sound version of that old saying about a picture
being worth a thousand words isn't it. I like your writing style a lot
and am looking forward to seeing what you cook up, but think this is a
situation where hearing some well thought out snippets of game play
with explanations would do more to get newbies excited than reading
about it, no matter how well the content is written.

Thomas,

Hence the subject heading. I think you're right. While we shouldn't
limit such an attempt to just blindness awareness organizations, we
shouldn't limit the message to just braille either.

Eleanor, excellent. That's a good thing to have multiple checks and
inputs.

Braille folks: While I personally sympathize with your position, if
this is a serious effort to expand the audio games market, then it
needs to pursue all media we can. As Dark pointed out, adding an
electronic copy to a document being produced electronically is zero
cost. Though to some of us who do not have low vision sufficient to
read large print or play games, the idea might seem ludicrous, I'm
sure there are low vision people who probably take advantage of some
audio materials. Even if they do not now, there are people with
degenerative disorders that might be interested.

The point here, in gaining sponsors, pursuing leads, and casting our
bread on the waters, is to use as wide a net as possible. We lose
nothing by a little pre-planning and outreach now. We might gain a
lot. It's all too easy for this sort of effort to flop if people get
too territorial or single-minded.

Take care,

Jeremy

Hi Kara.

That's an interesting point. I don't know much about the mist series but I
have heard of other games with such a viewpoint, although I've not heard of any
accessible game working precisely this way, sinse usually the point of such
games was to give a turn based, mostly text game the feeling of being more
real time and immediate to the sighted user than it actually was, ie, instead
of entering a room and seeing one static picture of the room's contents or a
text description, you see the table on one side and a chair on the other, and
to pick up items from the table or examine the chair you need to turn right or
left to face it, then turn a different direction to go through a door, this is
why I believe accept for some deliverately retro games like silver sword on
Ios, most of that style of game were old dos adventures.

I was going to say that I don't see the point of this in accessible terms,
however if I think about it I can actually see advantages, given that you
reduce the amount of jockying for movement a pleyr needs to do, and could
reduce the number of sound sources in the environment by limiting them to only
what she/he was immediately facing or beside, eg, you go into a room and hear
an object sound indicating the table to one side, and only when you turn
towards it do you get the sounds and identities of what objects are on it and
any spoken description.

Funnily enough, although they are real time we have had a couple of audiogames
with a first person perspective that do not involve 360 degree movement, namely
packman talks and dynaman, where you can move forward, and turn right or left,
but only at 90 degree angles just like in those old adventure games, though
obviously in soemthing like packman talks your moving continuously not in
discrete steps and such games are still arcade games despite the perspective.

One thing however that occurs to me, is that even though in these games you are
limited in the angles you can turn, you can in fact effectively still turn! 360
degrees, even if by making three right turns or left turns, just like the way
in something like shades of doom or sarah if you hit ctrl right arrow three
times you'd be facing the opposite direction, where as in a side scrolling game
despite as I said previously you still hearing things from the character's
perspective, depending upon which way you look at it you either are walking
forward with no way to turn backwards, or walking to the character's left or
right with no way to increase or decrease your y coordinate, (if we assume that
as in real life a side scroller's movements up or down are on the Z axis).

I hope this makes sense.

All the best,

Dark.

As we approach the end of the Three Monkeys Kickstarter campaign, we
wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your support over the past
30 days - it
really does mean the world to the team - and let you know what's what
going forward.

Sadly, it doesn't look like the Three Monkeys Kickstarter is going to be
a success. It was always a risk pushing things down this route, and -
despite some
fantastic support from you all - it looks like we're going to fall quite
a bit short of our target.

Our KS target was higher than we initially hoped when launching this
campaign, but it's what we realistically needed to do the project justice
and unlock
other avenues of funding; we didn't see the point of asking for less, and
not bringing the game to life to the quality we'd intended. Asking for
too little
has been a failure on the behalf of many high profile Kickstarter
campaigns, and we didn't want to put ourselves in that boat.

This hopefully isn't the end for Three Monkeys, however. We'll be going
back to the drawing board and exploring other avenues of funding, and
will keep

pushing to make this audio RPG a reality. We know many of you are crying
out for a game like this, and we'd dearly love to see it made. We're
aware it's
a niche - which is perhaps why we didn't hit our funding goal - but we'd
love to see Three Monkeys plug a gap in the audio game market, and push
the boundaries
of what can be achieved in a game with no visuals.

To everybody that has backed the campaign, shared, commented or simply
taken the time to check it out - thank you.

You'll hear more from us soon.

the buttons you need to hit. So, the default comes with sounds from the Ios
smackme, but there are lots of others that you can download from playing with
the default vo sounds, to super mario (with original nes and Snes music), to
guardians of the galaxy, and the game comes with a pack creation tool to let
you make more.

The way you unlock the soundpacks is good too, Instead of just scoring points
in the game you get rewarded with beat coins, which you can use to either buy
safeguards (that let you continue if you die), or new soundpacks, just download
them and stick them in the soundpacks folder.

This one really is surprisingly fun for a quick blast.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi.

To anyone not on the audiogames.net forum, this is just to let people know
about Robjoy's awsome new side scroller game, Angel gift. This is probably
the most cinematic audio game ever, with an awsome soundtrack and full voice
acting. You play an angel trying to bring positive emotion to a small winter
village (beliebve me, it is less fluffy than it sound particularly when
demons get involved).

The game is entirely free, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

Download it at:

Enjoy!

Hi Shaun,

While the Audyssey Magazine has been temporarily on hiatus the last
couple of years I happen to believe it will be back sooner or later.
Not what Ron's situation is and why he hasn't been able to put out an
issue for a while I don't foresee it lasting forever.

Besides Audyssey is so much bigger than the magazine these days. I do
intend to update the website in the not too distant future, plan to
work on converting the magazines to html, and may do a few other
things with the site such as have a news section that will supplement
the magazine when it comes back.

Cheers!

Fact was i had no idea of what the net was back then.
I had started when win 95 was out.
In fact I never really left dos till 2005 when my old keynote gold
died completely.
In fact through highschool, the keynote gold was with me till just
before the end when I switched to my satelite 310.
However the keynote was more fun because it had games on it.
Dos actually got me friends with a group of hackers, I am friends
with one of them still, another couple I know the rest have gone away.
We played with games before the net.
Most of them ran windows 3.1 and dos then however jims games were one
of the things we often played.
Sadly audyssey is basically dead, I don't know though if its worth
bringing it back though.
There are rarely issues out these days, and the fact is the
audiogames forum has replaced it.
back in the dialup days it was good, saying if something can be done
with the mag, I have time to help out.
I have jarte plus as my lightweight processer, and to be honest I
want to keep the magazine alive.
Jims stuff got me into that, the imortal gamer reminded me of the
comic strips and other stuff in old computer magazines now no longer
in production or online.
A lot of them came with software, cds disk, and the like.
my group and I would load things on systems till they died and decide
what was good or not, if it completely totaled the system usually the
cd was snapped into bits and shreaded, however those days are gone
with the web.
Once I tried to bring up an old project on some old systems machines
for book playback but not much came of it.

Hi Jim

I personally think the adult games you've done are loads of funn! If

being forced to play them. But by all means don't stop your creativity

The Beast is either an excellent coaster or my guide dog, or both.

In an amusement park in Phoenix, Arizona, they have a family roller
coaster named The Patriot, and a double looping coaster named Desert
Storm. From the titles, you can pretty much figure when they were
build?

Hi Emily,

Yes, it would help to name certain rides to make a distinction between
say two roller-coasters. Plus it would allow someone to actually build
certain theme parks like Six Flags, King's Island, etc since they
could use their rides as a template for a successful virtual theme
park. I'd love to be able to manage such popular rides as Magnum Force
and the Beast.

Hi Sky,

Well, I do believe there was an accessible clone created based on
Frogger, but the game Bryan and I are talking about is an old Atari
game from the early 1980's called Frogger. The basic idea is that you
are a little green frog trying to make it back to your home. In order
to do that you have to cross a busy highway with trucks and cars, then
get passed a river with crocodiles, and eventually make it to your
home. The original game certainly is not accessible, but you may have
to see about that accessible version I mentioned.

Cheers!

Hi Darren

Valid points indeed. However the files for sendspace could always be
uploaded again if someone were willing or several people if they have an
account. Or if someone has a pro it's pretty much permanent. As for
dropbox yes the same would apply we'd need a longer term host.
A third option could be maybe a link on the webpage if there is a
spacific game review wanted to send an email request then someone could
upload file x and notify the person via email that it's now available.

Re: [Audyssey] Audyssey

2013-10-30 Thread Ron Schamerhorn

Hi Tom and all

I do agree with what you said. I believe a podcast would be a good
enhancement to say a written review of a given game. Addressing the
idea of storage space needed I don't know how much the cost would
increase for the webisite, but an alternative could be sendspace. The
reason I mention this obviously is that it's optionally a free service,
or similarly Dropbox.
I'm not sure how difficult HTML coding would be to learn however with
some determination writing the magazine with headers and such would make
a decent change from the current +'s used in the current format.
As for submissions of podcast there would need to be some sort of
standards in things like quality of the recording, ease of understanding
what's being heard both in the game and by the reviewer and so on.

Just a couple thoughts.
Ron

On 30-Oct-2013 12:51 AM, Thomas Ward wrote:

Hi Steven and all,

I realize that probably a good many of you are in favor of some kind
of a podcast. I'm not totally against the idea, but I foresee problems
with it. For one thing a podcast would require extra server bandwidth,
more storage space, and that would incur greater cost to keep the site
up and running. Therefore in order to do this we would have to take
donations on a regular basis to pay for the cost of operating the site
and so forth. Another is technical quality from podcast to podcast.
Now, I know this varies from person to person but I expect people who
record podcasts to have fairly decent recording equipment so it is
easy to clean up, edit, and post to the site. If I were the one
reviewing podcast submissions and it were recorded on a $15 microphone
with too much static or background noise I'd probably turn the
submission down on the grounds it doesn't meet quality standards.
Finally, not everyone can record a podcast. I myself have difficulties
with my Jaw, making speaking very difficult, therefore I prefer to
write what I have to say than try and speak clearly into a microphone.
Obviously, that particular problem would not effect everyone, but I
foresee others having problems with recording pod casts weather it is
not having the right hardware or software, not being able to speak
clearly, or something else.

Bottom line, what I personally think is the best answer to this issue
is to have both. We can still keep the magazine, update it a bit, turn
it into a full online webzine or e-zine with articles, reviews,
stories, and so forth. If people are determined to have a podcast
perhaps we can try that as well, but it would be in addition to the
magazine and would not be a replacement for it.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Audyssey Magazine

2013-10-29 Thread Ron Schamerhorn

Hey all

Let me first begin by saying that I discovered a copy of #55 just a
day or two ago. Yes it was a combination of personal and computer
issues that delayed publication of the issue. I'm still willing and
able to be editor of the magazine and yes I agree some changes are
certainly in order.
For one thing in #55 I'd skip over the Dev section only because
there's been numerous games which have been developed thus making the
majority of the content irrelevant. I believe it would be better to
recommend folks check out either audiogames or PCSGames listings for
current titles.
I'm open to any and all suggestions to revive the mag before anyone
rants at me yes I'll admit to dropping the ball though only partly.
Computer crashes are beyond my control but I could at least salvage the
articles sent in for that issue and rework 55.
I want to continue the mag and distribution is an area that needs
some work definitely, again suggestions of organizations, websites, or
whatever are welcome. I'd gladly work on that.
Basically what I'm saying is let's be constructive about breathing
some new energy in Audyssey. I love doing the job but need folks to
help out to make it bigger and better. Whatever form that takes be it
an article, a site that would be willing to have a link, etc. Let's
look forward.

of us don't. lol and it's way too hot right now for that to happen. *grin*

Re: [Audyssey] News from Blastbay Studios, and a call for opinions

2013-04-29 Thread Ron Schamerhorn

Hi Philip

  Answering the questions you posed.

Myself I'm in favour of just a download, but some folks might like to
have a "backup" version.

2 This basically relates to the previous question but with a good
connection 300 is easy enough.

3. I'd say txt or html for the ability to quickly find particular points
like key commands, scoring and such.

4. Cheat codes, I'd rather unlock them through gameplay. Other folks
might want them from the beginning so I'd say offer it as an option.

Just my thoughts. And when I read this I thought it was about PH,
looking forward to seeing what you've created!

All the best

Hey

Also remember that the winkit with the VB6 libraries has to be
installed as 7 doesn't have them. Sorry if this has been mentioned before.

Hi Kimberly,

I have been told that Windows 7 64 bit has 2 program files folders. One is
just program files and
the other is something like program files x86. So my game of life and the game
menu go into one and
the rest of my games go into the other. So find the other folder and copy all
of those files into
the folder with the game of life and the gamemenu.exe file.

Sorry that my games do not install properly for Windows 7 64 bit like they did
for XP etc.

Have a good Thanks giving dinner.

There are actually several board games I'd love to play in
accessible form, and of course right at the top of the list are the
fantasy themed ones such as talisman, that played as simple rpgs,
so any sort of accessible version of those, or indeed anything like
it where you have basic character rules, different textual events
with different squares and very simple dice combat mechanics would
be wlecome indeed, in fact sometimes I've wondered if Jim
kitchin could create a fantasy boardgame dungeon creator similar to
talisman with basic character stats and the ability to write
different text descriptions on squares, or write different random
encounter monster or item cards, after all, as the entire gamebook
movement shows, rpg mechanics don't have to be hyper complex to be
fun.

Beware the grue!

Another one that was good and the puzzles actually made sense was
Haunted Theatre, theatre.z8 I think it was. Also Anchorhead
annchor.z? the puzzles all made sense as well. I finished Theatre
with a perfect 50 point score, it was my first text game.

Leather Goddesses of Phobos. I needed it for the maze and for a couple
