[Audyssey] Good news about TDLGames!

2012-02-28 Thread michael barnes
Hey, earlier after I gave out the web address to download the different
TDL games, different ones said that the links to download the games
wouldn't work.
Well check this out! The links work, and there is a update patch for
SpaceColonyCleaner and MazeGame aswell.
However It would be great if someone had a registration key for the
game or a patch or crack.

Hey, Charles.
All you have to do is to move your finger around the screen to get it
to read the different items on the screen.

Hey, the other day I spoke on the iphone game transylvania.
Well today I thought I would see if the developer had made it workable
with the voice over.

And after playing with the game for a few minutes it is accessible.
The game works just like a I.F. game where you put in your commands in a
edit box.

Re: [Audyssey] Good news for all gamers!

2011-10-20 Thread shaun everiss
yeah one of those would be cool, we did have torrent by surreal
horisons but since it was never released and even if someone gave you
the now dead beta it would have to be cracked to get activated and
since the owner of sr just up and left there is no chance we will
ever see the game.
A pitty since the game uses the dolphin sam engine for synth support,
and as far as I know no one uses that system at all.
Since it uses sam support, I could run braille and all my synths
including those locked probably to my supernova quite happily.
On the subject of fs though, I actually invested in this, got an old
coppy of fs2002, but ms speech rec if you load some other things for
sapi or even if you don't likes to corrupt itself and not load which is fine.
However even when I got it to work I found the training extremely
dificult its a pitty we can't find, and get brailled all the material
ms uses to train with.

Iyp looked quite good as well as the radar thing.
Though truthfully, I really don't know if I could dig a pasenger game
really, its not my deal.

Sure have some exploring round but a little action would be nice.
The only other game not released ever was starbase defender, as its
dev ran out of time and seems to now have dissapeared from the net
along with his site.
The only good thing if it can even be a good thing at all is that for
ages before he went offline he had the game entire soundtrack up,
thats also gone now but I have it and maybe others do.
Its really a pitty it died as aparently there was 2 weeks left ot get
it all going.
THe other flight game that died was by nasoft, flight commander and
was something almost like tdv.

It was in the future though.
There was a trailer but again it never eventuated, nasoft is also gone.
There was final defender by what is now draconis, its not appeared
again but that doesn't mean it may come back since adora is now
draconis, so technically it may still happen though doubtfull.
The only remotely space games we have are battleship by jim kitchen,
trek2000 by gma and final conflict startrek by usagames.

THe kitchensinc game is just battle ship.
The gma one is quite old and crappy and freeware.
And the usa one though still existant although it has replay value
is still well not as good as it could be with today's tech though
better than trek2k its still crappy and its being redone in any case.
I guess you could call monkey business, shades of doom and alien
outback and maybe a few others space games but only because they have
either shields or lasers in them same with the troop series by
blindsoftware but they are not realy space ship sims.
What we need is something that has exploration battle, action and
other randomness.

Battle we have loads of but not much more than that.
I recently listened to a radio station where rage by idsoftware was
being demoed.

You basically did things to advance yourself and get extra things, cash, etc.
The major thing I liked about rage though was the crafting element,
except for the game return to chaos by chaos productions I think, we
really don't have any games with a major crafting element.

Right now the space plan is the space station.
But they do have the new up coming space ship that they'd like to

I think that the old mars game would be a great stepping stone to

To access zip files, just try 7zip from http://www.7zip.com/

all you need to do is right click or similar on the file in windows
explorer, select the 7zip item you want such as extract here to get
everything from the zip folder in your current location, or extract
to which will create a new folder with the contents of the zip archive in it.

7zip is a very easy to use program and should make access anything
zipped far easier, pluss this then means that if Richard or anyone
else wants to send aroung games this should make them fairly easy.

Hi Michael,

That only works if you have a 32-bit system and 16-bit backwards
compatibility. Windows 7 64-bit has dropped support for 16-bit
applications.

Re: [Audyssey] Good news for all gamers!

2011-10-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Well, it depends on the game actually. I have some Dos programs I
compiled for a 32-bit target environment and those run fine on Windows
7 64-bit. Its the older Dos programs that were compiled for a 16-bit
op that have issues. I have not located a Dos emulator that works with
a screen reader so old 16-bit Dos games require an older box if you
want to play them.

I believe the problems are because of his email provider blocking out
potentially risky attachments. Wouldn't be a first, I'm 100% sure google

Maybe Richard could use something like dropbox, or he could temporarly

most likely get it through the filters, and accessing them afterwards

Hey, everyone for the last few days I have been talking to Richard L.

He told me that his games are freeware so if any of us would like to

I have made the DOS games freeware. There is no real market for DOS
games anymore. Those games were written in a DOS programming language.
In order to enable them to run in Windows, I would have to completely
rewrite them, and that is a huge undertaking. Since you were not able
to access my two previous attachments, I doubt that you would be able
to access a zip file, but maybe I'll try attachments again when I get a chance.

what happens if you try to run on vista.
when I get 7 or whatever I may follow example with some users and put all my

Hello

I have to agree with Damien about vb6.
VB6 is small, flexible and easy to learn.
I am also learning c++, and ist a good language.
But please don't start with visual c++...
G
It's terrible.
It installs houndreds of programs on your system, it is large, you can't use
it successfully etc...

I tell everyone who wants to learn c or c++:
Search for another good compiler than vb.

look at www.bloodshed.net you can get dev pascal and dev c maybe c++ not
sure.
some of this is a frontend to compilers but you only need to get
commandline compilers, and the interface is easy enough.

when I was at uni I use devpascal with the freepascal engine.
the nice thing was I only needed one interface.
I then had to compile with one key.
the system did it all for me.
no pushing this and that ofcause you still need to worry about the code
but there is good syntax checking in there.

Re: [Audyssey] Good news!

2010-01-27 Thread Damien Sadler

Hi Thomas,
Yes, I have had plenty of thoughts about the .net framework, both from an
end user's perspective and a developer's.
As an end user I found the applications to be much slower in comparison, and
much more costly in disk space. While disk space is no longer a problem for
me, I would rather use a smaller alternative such as a C/C++ or VB based
application that doesn't require many system changes or modifications to be
made.
I cannot claim absolute certainty on the next point, but it is very
coincidental that after installing the .net framework I had many system
crashes, I.E. crashes forcing Windows to reboot itself. After uninstalling
it, there were no such problems. My theory is that something is causing a
memory leak, or maybe even a conflict with other software or drivers
installed.
I also found the user interfaces not very accessible, I.E. screenreaders not
reading out controls as they should. Again, I have constructed a theory, it
may not be correct, but I like guessing at things. I suspect that the
control classes have changed internally, or maybe there are new controls
being used that the screenreaders cannot recognise. Having never managed to
start developing in .net I have never really had an opportunity to
experiment with user interface designs.
As a developer, my main problems were, again, the size of the program (5
CDROMs for Visual Studio 2003), and most importantly, accessibility.
I constantly got messages to use a certain set of scripts which I couldn't
get hold of, and without them the user interface, again, was just a
cluttered mess. Also recently I was told about the development security
risks, and I would rather not go through the whole polava of having to use
code obfuscators to try and hide my treasure.
And then of course you've got issues on some systems, you get problems more
than on others. System crashes aside I have never had problems playing Tomb
Hunter, while others mention startup errors, abrupt exits while checking
status, etc. I had no problems trying out Ryan's Monopoly game, whereas my
partner's computer complained about a missing component despite the fact
that all required components were on her system.

Personally I see the .net framework as more trouble than it is worth.
I did once look into other available languages, such as Python, Ruby, Pascal
and Delphi, but none of them were as understandable or usable as VB.

Regards,
Damien.

Hi Damien,
I'm very glad to know your data recovery was a success. Being a
developer I know all too well how much time and money was at stake, and
that's a serious problem for any software developer.
Although, I'm saddened to hear you are having so much trouble with C++.
Perhaps a simpler and more useful solution for you would be to go to C

syntactical standpoint C++ .Net is identical to standard C++, but is
much easier for a novis C++ developer as you don't have to do all the
low-level programming yourself. Instead of working with pointers and
memory management on your own you can use the .Net Framework's garbage
collecter for all that low-level stuff. Plus picking C++ .Net or

Especially, if you plan to stop depending on legacy code and begin
taking an active roll in developing new games for Windows 7 and beyond.
Windows XP was released in 2001, making it an extremely old operating

requires you to manually install any and all legacy libraries you need

being personally tutored on the glories of C, and not getting anywhere with
it, I have decided, at least for the time being, to continue using VB, my
former development platform. This may not be a permanent arrangement, but at
least I won't be sat here bored to death while feeling like the C compiler
is practically screaming angry insults at me, I will be able to continue
support for my old titles, releasing patches, etc, and I may also be able to
make a smooth transition from VB to C/C++ without any delays when I finally
grasp it.
I can understand the syntax no problem, having previously made an attempt on
writing a PHP chat system, however the complex methods of Windows
programming, such as memory management, pointers and multithreading, are all
very mixed inside my fuzzled up brain. I know their function, but can never
properly write their code or use them in the correct situations.
Therefore I have retired from this avenue, at least until I can afford more
intense personal tuition on the subject.
I hope none of you mind, and am always open for comments, suggestions, etc.
Other updates:
Now I have the correct equipment I will be doing a little bit more than my
software/game development, and that will be released and updated a lot more
frequently, but that is off topic and can be seen in more detail on the
website.
Thanks.
Regards,
Damien C. Sadler.

Hey,
That would not bring any challenge to the game, as it would end up losing
health and not using the powerful stuff for every turn.

Damien.

EG. the bullet smashes the fan. the pc heats up and, say, loses 1 hp per

The CPU gets hit. the pc goes stupid and it forgets about his gun and
health restores.

I could think of a few more, but I'll need more time. lol

Hi Josh,
Keep in mind you are talking about someone who lives in South Africa not
the U.S.A. I am sure they have some sort of training centers for the
blind, but pointing him to the centers in the U.S.A. isn't likely to help.

Nicol, you are an adult and if you want the screen turned off you can turn it off and if people put up or give you krap tell them to go to you-know-where. You're 31 years old or so. You control your life, not them. I recommend you get yourself to a training center either one of the state ones or one of those two that I mentioned.

Re: [Audyssey] good news: shades of doom

2009-09-21 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Agreed. I often run my desktop with the monitor off for exactly the same
reasons you pointed out. If I am the only one using the computer with
speech there is no need to have the screen on waisting power, risk
ruining the monitor from over use, etc. If anyone like Nicol is asked
why his/her monitor is off maybe they should approach it from this angle.
As far as someone getting suspicious over a monitor being turned off
that's just ridiculous, over bearing, and also disturbing. Anyone who
does that is neither your friend or family. What they are is your
jailer. No offense.

dark wrote:

my desktop on for an extremely long time listening to audio.

Imho there's no point having a monitor on if nobody is using it,
especially for a long time.

It severely disturbs me that what you privately do in your own home by
your own choice is so strictly sensored in this way, especially
if you yourself aren't a jahova's witness.

Whilst I agree with what you're saying you're asking the guy to
effectively go against his family. Whilst I agree with you for various
reasons he may not be able to do it. Yes he is an adult and he should be
taking charge of his life. I agree with that totally. It's a question of
that against the costs if he does. I'm a strong willed person. If I have
to upset someone then yes I'll do it no questions asked and I don't make
any exceptions to that rule. Whether it be friend family blood relation
or no. if it has to be done then so be it. My life is mine. I am my own
master nobody else. I have no qualms with taking action like that if it
is so required. But not everybody has the strength of will and character
to do that. Which is frustrating but true never the less.

Hi,

I know he's in South Africa. During my time at the colorado center I met
blind people from all over the world who got sponsored to come here to
the center and learn independence skills. So if Nocol wants to he could
go to one of those centers. Also if Nicol wants to go but people in his
life are preventing him from doing so. I could get Nicol's contact info
off list, give it to the centers, and they could take it from there. If
necessary get the government of his country involved. Nicol is an adult
he can make his own decisions and if his mom can't handle it too bad for

good would it do? I have mine only turned on if a sighted person is wanting

Hi Nicol,

I recommend you go to www.cocenter.org and www.blindinc.org and get in
touch with the people there. Nicol, you are an adult and if you want the
screen turned off you can turn it off and if people put up or give you
krap tell them to go to you-know-where. You're 31 years old or so. You
control your life, not them. I recommend you get yourself to a training
center either one of the state ones or one of those two that I mentioned.

Even though i actually can see and do use a screen on occasion for things
like watching films, when i'm merely doing something with speech or audio i
always turn my screen off anyway. It saves power and stops my monitor from
burning out, -- especially true if i've had my desktop on for an
extremely long time listening to audio.

Imho there's no point having a monitor on if nobody is using it, especially
for a long time.

It severely disturbs me that what you privately do in your own home by your
own choice is so strictly sensored in this way, especially if you
yourself aren't a jahova's witness.

is their control on you. You confronted them with the facts, you made them

no longer doing something sneaky, and having to find ways to get around

Re: [Audyssey] good news: shades of doom

2009-09-20 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Jason,
I am changing the name on the screen of the Sarah game.
But during the time when you hear the company logo and the title music the
title has to stay what it was,

Sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry.
This is due to how the GMA game engine creates a registration key.
If I was to change it to Sarah during that first few seconds, then I would
have to send out all new registration keys to everyone who has purchased the
game.
But you can minimize the time that full game title is on the screen by
hitting the control key.
This change will happen in the update of the game I am working on and have
almost completed.

Sincerely,
Phil

In my opinion, a game, a book, a movie - whatever. They're all works of

Completely agree with this statement. It doesn't matter what you believe

Hi Allison,
He is an adult, but age really isn't the issue here. Apparently from
what I gather regardless of his age his mother tries to control him,
boss him around, and tell him what to do. Especially, when a game, book,

or something offends her religious views.

For most of us we move away from home, get a job, and when a parent or
in-laws try to tell us what to do we can tell them "bite me" and that
will be the end of it. I guess he still lives with or near enough to his

mother that she still has a controlling influence on his life so telling

her to "go jump in a river" isn't feasible.

I will tell how it came to be that my mom has softened her view about sod.
me and a friend of mine were having a pizza at a restaurant yesterday
evening and we talked about games.
I told this friend about the audio games I am playing, I described pipe2
to

him in detail. and he told me about his games.
He told me that he is currently playing mainstream games made for the pc.
He once had the x box but it was too expensive.
Each game on the x box costs 500 south african rand.
But this friend told me about ashooting game that he bought himself for
his

pc, called unreal tournament where there is a lot of shooting involved.
The game consist of different missions/tasks but the main objective is
fighting.
So I asked him whether his dad is ok with the game he is playing as he
stays

with his family and they are also Jehovah witnesses, he told me yes.
So today I spoke to my mom about this friend's game, telling her his dad
does not have a problem with him playhing it. and she told me that each
person must decide according to his conscience.
So I described shades of doom to my mom in the language of the man on the
street.
I told my mom that in shades of doom I do not kill people, I kill monsters
similar to prehistoric monsters such as dinosaurs.
I told her about the experiment that went wrong and that my mission is to
collect wafers to shut down the experiment and to collect the wafers I
have

to kill creatures.
She asked if there is blood in the sod game and I answered no.
So eventually she agreed that its not harmfull to me.
I will try to translate her words into English.
"now I agree a game of erasing monsters is not that bad."
So now I can freelly play shades of doom without anybody asking me what I
am

playing if they see the title on my screen.
Because I share my flat with a couple, my mom's friends, and they care for
me such as doing the cooking.
So if they have any questions, I will just explain to them how I have
explained to my mom and that its ok with her for me to play sod.

And I can also now play sarah soon even though my mom and her friends
hates
magic games . so soon I can also now freely play sarah without them
watching

the screen due to the fact that phil will change the screen name to only
sarah instead of sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry in his
coming update.

Hi Nicol,

I commend you on handaling such a situation with careful consideration. I

Re: [Audyssey] good news: shades of doom

2009-09-18 Thread Robert Montowski

Hello there,
I came into this thread a bit late...so I had to go back and read alot of
old messages to get the feel for what is going on here.

My experience to some of what is being discussed goes like this:
I used to live with a girlfriend in my house.
I also played shades of doom.
she is a born again christian as am I.
she was a bit miffed I was playing this shooting game.
here is how I settled the matter.
As I am totally blind..I turned my monitor off.
even if she walks by my open door, she will not know what I am doing.
as many of these games are very specific about what direction a sound comes
at you from, I got a very nice pair of headphones to wear when I play any
game.
so once again, even when she is standing in my room talking to me..she has
no idea what I am doing unless I have the volume on the head phones turned
way up high.

I consider this leveling the playfield.
when she is on her computer I have no idea what she is doing as she turns
her speakers off.
I can't see or hear what she is doing and she can't see or hear what I am
doing.

No problem here...grin.
religion and computer games can co-exist.
Robert

If you are not a Jehovah's Witness, and you are an adult, your wish should
be your command, so to speak, as long as there is no harm in your choices,
particularly when it comes to playing computer games. The fact that you can
now play SOD is very good news.

That is good news. I actually had a girlfriend who, thought not of the same
religious persuasion, used to have those beliefs or very similar ones. Of
course she does seem to have calmed down in that area lately. But she would
have done the same things when we were together had I given her the
opportunity.

I completely understand. Please know that my question wasn't meant to offend
or cause any kind of controversy. This kind of situation is unfortunately
something which I encounter every day as part of my job. There are tactful
ways of telling her to go jump in a river without saying it outright.
However, that's beyond the scope of this list, so I won't elaborate further.

Hi Allison,
He is an adult, but age really isn't the issue here. Apparently from what
I gather regardless of his age his mother tries to control him, boss him
around, and tell him what to do. Especially, when a game, book, or
something offends her religious views.

For most of us we move away from home, get a job, and when a parent or
in-laws try to tell us what to do we can tell them "bite me" and that will
be the end of it. I guess he still lives with or near enough to his mother
that she still has a controlling influence on his life so telling her to
"go jump in a river" isn't feasible.

But this friend told me about ashooting game that he bought himself for his
pc, called unreal tournament where there is a lot of shooting involved.
The game consist of different missions/tasks but the main objective is
fighting.
So I asked him whether his dad is ok with the game he is playing as he stays
with his family and they are also Jehovah witnesses, he told me yes.
I told her about the experiment that went wrong and that my mission is to
collect wafers to shut down the experiment and to collect the wafers I have
to kill creatures.
She asked if there is blood in the sod game and I answered no.
So eventually she agreed that its not harmfull to me.
I will try to translate her words into English.
"now I agree a game of erasing monsters is not that bad."
So now I can freelly play shades of doom without anybody asking me what I am
playing if they see the title on my screen.
Because I share my flat with a couple, my mom's friends, and they care for
me such as doing the cooking.
So if they have any questions, I will just explain to them how I have
explained to my mom and that its ok with her for me to play sod.
Spoiler

And I can also now play sarah soon even though my mom and her friends hates
magic games . so soon I can also now freely play sarah without them watching
the screen due to the fact that phil will change the screen name to only
sarah instead of sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry in his
coming update.

super nintendo is awesome. I still have mine and it works well. I have
killer instinc, street fighter 2, mk 2 and 3, and some other fighting
titles I can't recall now. of course whenever I decide to play it I need
to blow in the cartridges a bunch of times but that's the beauty of the
system. you don't get that experience with emulators lol.

Yes, right, but if that is not the disc you want, you can eject the disc and
put in another want and wii will read and play the music. So it still works.
Don't have to click the back icon and re-enter.
The plus key is often used to enter the options menu when you are in the game.
As for games not using the DPad to nevigate through the menus, you can try
using the nunchuck. Some works and some don't. If you are into sports games,
give mario and sonic at the olympic games a shot.

Hi ken, I think you made it sound so much more unfriendly to start game
than it really is. You don't have to be so exact to click on the top left
button. Just click on any one then use the plus or minus key on the wii
controller to move you there. It is a cycle, so you will eventually land
on the read disk icon.
