Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
Hi Dark, No, jobs and game programming aren't mutually exclusive but it can be tiring to do both. If you spend 8 to 10 hours a day behind a computer programming for employer x and come home to do more of the same your hands will get tired, your mind begins to fuzz out, and at that point of the day all you want to do is open a Coke and sit back and relax in front of the television or listen to a good audio book. Who wants to program when you have done it for 8 or 10 hours already. Smile. dark wrote: Ooopse! forgot about jim there! Exactly. Aside from your wife and son I'm sure you've got an actual job that demands your attention, and if it involves using a computer I can totally understand why you'd be feeling burned out. I had a temporary job working at a radio station, and while It was cool to operate some of the equipment I would definitely not have wanted to come home to the same thing. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
Fair enough Tom, and that does make sense. Neverthelessit's quite a shame when something like that can completely force someone out of programming. there's afterall a big difference in stopping entirely and progressing at a slower pace which will actually leave time for your fingers to repair and your brain to cool down betwene code crunching sessions. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
well its been a long road jayson. I myself am proud with the fact I and others have managed to get this far with a project like that. Though I will be sorry when we're finnished. this thing has taken the best part of the last 2 years to preduce and well once its done. At 04:12 p.m. 9/10/2009, you wrote: I'm finishing up the engine with Entombed right now and working on more content. It will go to beta soon. As for the actual release, I'm not sure. Some of the new content is fairly complex - like new spells, but it will go faster than the majority of the alpha. I'm hoping to have the next alpha version ready by the end of October, but I'm not sure yet. The first beta version will follow that and will focus on stability issues. Then hopefully it'll be release time! Cheers! Jason --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
Hi, Oh, I'd say Entombed has a long long ways to go before it sees a 1.0 stable release. Not surprising really seeing as it is a difficult genre of game to program given the amount of programming and development involved. The thing to keep in mind is that whoever said it would be ready by fall of 2009 was only speculating at a release date, and apparently underestimated the time involved in creating the game. Cheers! The same thing happened with Castle Quest before the game was scrapped. Justin initially said it would be out in fall of 2004 or something along those lines. I do hope we'll see more titles from them in the future. THe ones they have out now have sort of lost their appeal for me. Homer: Hey, uh, could you go across the street and get me a slice of pizza? Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
It is funny, when i started looking into audiogames I sort of had a sense that the main developers were Bsc, Gma, Lworks, Draconis and Vip gameszone. Now, two of those have virtually dropped off the map as far as new games go. I admit, i could be (and hope I am), surprised again, --- as I have been on several occasions when a games company i thought wasn't working anymore have pulled something great out of the bag, like Gma and vip mud, or indeed (much as it pains me to admit it), Usa games when Tom first released a stable version of stfc. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
Yes there is a reason. You have to use the equipment menue with E, and click on the body part, --- head, torso, left or right hand etc, of the individual character (use tab to switch characters). The game will display any items the character can put there, and you can just choose one and press enter on it. this counts for weapons too, just look at your character's hands. Hth. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
Hi Dark, Yes, I have to agree somewhat. I started playing accessible games earlier than you, and back when I started there was ESP, GMA, BSC, Jim Kitchen, and a couple of others. Well, in that time I've seen a lot of developers and potential developers come and go. ESP has been turned over to Draconis, BSC hasn't produced anything really new in years, L-Works and Blind Adrenaline has started up, PCS and GMA are still going at it now and then, and so on.It is constantly changing, but those I thought who were th leaders back then, like BSC, aren't really producing any more. Oh, there have been updated versions of their games for Windows Vista, foreign language versions, but beyond that not anything really new. I understand since as you say Justin has a job, but still a bit disappointing to see one of our better game companies just stop producing new titles. dark wrote: It is funny, when i started looking into audiogames I sort of had a sense that the main developers were Bsc, Gma, Lworks, Draconis and Vip gameszone. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
Hi Bryan, That's really not that unusual for a single developer. It is hard to gage exactly how long a project will take when it is done in free time, the developer doesn't have a fixed schedule for development, and if he divides his free time between programming and something else. I realize that. It's why folks like Draconis and even you don't necessarily give specific dates. Because we all know there's no guarantee you'll be able to be dead on schedule. If and when my fiance and I begin developing, we'll probably adopt that same policy. It'll be interesting to see how this works since she's sighted. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
Ooopse! forgot about jim there! Then again, when I started playing accessible games I had a narrower deffinition of what a computer game actually was, and it wouldn't have occurred to me to count something like computerized versions of board or card games for some very odd reason. I now of course know better, but I agree Tom. I'm not a huge fan of E-mail heckling or petitions, but maybe some sort of contact from the community to Justin would be vaguely in order, sinse we certainly miss the in put of new games, and even Liam, who has a coding job has proved that development and jobs aren't mutually exclusive, even if developement does have to slow down somewhat. hmmm. well entombed is in its alpha 9.5 cycle and has been that way for the last 2 weeks or so. There is no news on the next version although since its now 9.5 and not 9.0 its officially an unstable alpha, although its as stable as it can be right now. new content pathways are added and a few other things. the good thing is that the engine has actuallyalmost if not about done and we can concerntrate on the actual game content as we have just had the same stuff for 9 alpha builds. Once the engine is finally fixed I think we can get on with it, there are a few supprises go to www.blind-game.com click downloads then download the link and file is the same. Re: [Audyssey] Entombed Query
I'm finishing up the engine with Entombed right now and working on more content.
