g_b GB's Rainbow Kite Flying on Sun; 15 Jan 2012 at Juhu Beach
GB's Rainbow Kite Flying on Sun; 15 Jan 2012 at Juhu Beach GayBombay is happy to announce what is always one of our most popular events - GB's Rainbow Kite Flying! Day, Date and Time: Sunday 15th January 2012 from 3:30 pm till sundown Venue: The patch of Juhu Beach down the lane near Tulip Star Hotel. Vile Parle (West) is the closest train station. Contribution: Participation in this event is free. The event is sponsored by GayBombay. On Sunday 15th January at Juhu Beach, from 3:30 pm till sundown. We'll supply the beautiful rainbow kites, you come and get them up! It has something to do with the weather, which is always nice now, and also to do with being out in the open - most of our events always happen indoors and in private, so there's something so liberating about being in the open among all the friends and families on Juhu Beach, just another bunch of friends and family which is just the way it should be. It also has to do with the fact that there's no agenda other than having fun. Yes, the kites are a queer pride statement, but really no one gets it or cares (its always cool to see some foreigners doing a double take then they see it and realise it really is the gay rainbow flag). All that matters is that the kites are beautiful (we always have people wanting to buy them) and eye catching and that its WONDERFUL seeing them go up. So it all promises to be another great event, so make sure you don't miss. Just come to Juhu and help us go fly a kite! For the general convenience, We will not be flying kites on the main Juhu stretch near the Shivaji statue because it's too crowded now. We're going to move further down to that patch down the lane near Tulip Star Hotel. We shall be setting up a blue, medium-sized, camping tent on the beach, so please look out for it. We will get some manja firkis (spools of kite flying thread), but please also bring your own since the more we have, the more kites we can get up. For those who want background explanation on the kite flying: Its January and in Gujarat and Maharashtra that means just one thing: its time to start flying kites again! At this time of the year the breezes are strong and the weather is pleasant enough for people to spend all day flying kites from their rooftops. Go to Bhuleshwar, one of the older districts in Bombay on Sunday, and you'll find the streets full of kite shops below and the skies full of kites overhead. In particular people fly kites on Makar Sankranti in Maharashtra and Utraan in Gujarat. This year Makar Sankranti falls on the 15th of January and as always GB will do its kite flying on a close Sunday, this time the Sunday after, on the 16th of January We're sure you'll want to come, so see you there. This event is organised by: www.gaybombay.org. Right of admission reserved. kitegb1[1].jpg

g_b 20th Nov - Special Sunday Meet - Safe Sex Mental Health
Special Sunday Meet - Safe Sex Mental Health DATE: 20TH Nov 2011 BETWEEN: 6pm to 8pm PICK UP: From 5.30-6 pm. From in front of Gloria Jeans Coffee Shop, Off Turner Road, Bandra West DIRECTIONS: To get to Gloria Jeans just come to Turner Road in Bandra and, if you are moving away from the station, you'll come to a big junction with Lemon Grass restaurant at the corner. Turn left there and Gloria Jeans will be just a few shops down from Lemon Grass. If you come from Carter Road and move towards the station, then take the right at Lemon Grass. VENUE: The meet is in Bandra, in a friend's house close to Turner Road. THIS Sunday, DEEPAK KASHYAP will be leading a GB meet on the subject of safe sex and mental health issues. From 5.30 till around 8.00 pm in Bandra. Deepak, who many here will know, is a trained counsellor who is also very proudly out himself. He came to us sometime back with an interesting idea for a meet that looked at the links between mental health issues in the gay community and how that linked to safe sex practices (or more accurately, the lack of them). Deepak said this idea came from talking to many gay men and realising how much confusion there was about what constituted safe sex. This confusion is perhaps inevitable, since there is a tons of information out there - and the Internet both helps by making it available, but also confuses further by making so much available you don't know where to start! A lot of the information can sound contradictory or hard to follow and Deepak realised that a lot of people were just giving up on trying to understand it, and were perhaps becoming fatalistic about unsafe sex. This was probably compounded by the fairly high levels of guilt and stress that exist in the queer community, thanks to the problems we face from society. We saw examples of this at the recent talk on anal health (I have NOT forgotten about the report on that - it'll come soon). The talk was excellent, very calm and matter of fact and non-judgmental. But many of the questions that were coming seemed to indicate deep guilt feeling about anal sex that could lead to quite unsafe sexual practices. This is where Deepak came up with the idea of a meet linking the two and we were happy to give him a chance to expand on it. He's written a bit about it which I'll give below for those who want to know more. But it sounds like it will be a really interesting and interactive talk, so do try and come for it. Is there such a thing as safe sex? or sex can only be safer? Sex is something most of us talk about and want to have. Are we aware of the frills and tassels that come with it? But then again, can you ever know everything that's out there about safe sex and sex and sexuality in general? In our age where available information about sex is not only confusing and contradictary but is presented in an overwhelming amount and structure. Confusion about what's right and what's not right, can sometimes not just create mental stress but also leave us mentally incapable of enjoying the very act of sex, or create great amount of anxiety and guilt after the sexual act is over. Not every information can seem empowering at first, but to say the least ignorance in this matter would be anything but bliss. So how do we strike a balance between our mental health and safe sex practises? What are the absolutely necessary things we should know about sex? Let's talk about it. NOTE: *PLEASE DO NOT COME DIRECTLY TO THE VENUE (which is generally someone's home), even if you are completely familiar with it and even if you happen to know the owner of the home very well. You are advised to come directly at the Pick-up point, mentioned on the website or announced on the mailing list. * Ensure that you get to Gloria Jeans before 6:30 pm. * Drag is a strict no-no. g_b The GayBombay Cooking Meet on Sunday 26 June 2011
The GayBombay Cooking Meet on Sunday 26 June 2011 Day, Date and Time: Sunday 26 June 2011, 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm Venue: Thane Everyone will be happy to know we’re having one of our most popular meets this month at the house of a friend in Thane who has kindly opened his kitchen to us. We’ve got excellent instructors lined up who’s a really good cooks and will be showing us how to make few simple dishes, both non-veg and veg (vegetarians don’t worry, there’ll be plenty for you). And once we’ve seen and learned then, of course, we’ll eat it! We will be cooking enough for all those who will there at the meet. For gay men cooking is pretty much an essential skill, and many guys are very good at it, so we’re going to get some of them to show the rest of us who want to learn. Everyone will be expected to pitch in with chopping and cooking! Our only regret with this meet is that we can’t keep it open to unlimited numbers. Because there’s only that many people who can fit in the kitchen for the demo to make any sense so we have to restrict the numbers to around 20. So if you want to attend you’ll have to mail to abhi2887 @ yahoo . com at the earliest. Once you register we’ll send you a formal invite along with details of the pick-up point. You’ll have to plan on being at the pick-up point between 4.00 and 4.30 pm Note : 1. You have to be above the age of 18 to attend this event. 2. You cannot participate in this event without registration and a formal invite from GayBombay in response to your registration. 3. Participants who have registered and received a formal invite should not unilaterally invite other persons who have not registered to accompany to them to this event. Food enough to cater to 20 persons shall be cooked and we cannot cater to additional persons. Further the kitchen isn’t large enough to accomodate more than 20 person. 4. GB as a support group, has created this comfort/safe space for gays, many of whom may be “newbies” (those still coming to terms with their sexuality and who have mustered courage to come for such a meeting for the first time). So we request you to be sensitive to the comfort levels of others attending the meeting and behave and dress accordingly. 5. If you have any queries please email: eve...@gaybombay.org. ——– This event is organised by: www.gaybombay.org. Right of admission reserved

PLEASE DO NOT COME DIRECTLY TO THE POST MEET VENUE (which is generally someone’s home), even if you are completely familiar with it and even if you happen to know the owner of the home very well. You are advised to come directly at the first venue, mentioned on the website or announced on the mailing list. 3. Ensure that you get to Bombay Blue before 6:30 pm. 4. Drag is a strict no-no. For the simple reason that though GayBombay doesn’t mind drag, the places that host us do. There are also may be many attendees who will prefer being discreet or may be still be coming to terms with themselves hence a request that all be sensitive to this and act and dress accordingly. 5. After visiting the post meet venue, no one is allowed to go back to that place unless invited specifically by the owner of the house. 6. We like to maintain GayBombay as a comfort zone. This is a platform, which allows hesitant and often apprehensive gays to come and meet other gay people. As such, this platform has a strictly non-sexual framework. This group is not about porn, or orgies, or sex-talk, or escorts, or hook-ups. 7. Do get your friends along to help them gain access to a group especially if they are not netizens. You do not have to be “out” to the world to attend. This is a discreet event being held as a clean, safe social get-together of a non-sexual nature. Hardly any of those attending are “out” as such. 8. You need to be at least 18 years of age to attend. ___ This event is organised by www.gaybombay.org Right of admission reserved JPEG_000365[1].jpg

g_b GB Special Sunday Meet on Relationships on 6 February 2011
GB Special Sunday Meet on Relationships What do gay guys mean when they say, I am looking for relationship? Sex? An affair till it doesn’t get boring? A trophy boyfriend to flaunt to the world? A partner to introduce to parents as life partner? A relationship of convenience, strictly to take care of loneliness and old age? A big shot to enjoy expensive gifts and lifestyle? A cute boyfriend just for the heck, because a friend has one? An adorable guy to fall in love with and stay together and committed till death? Gay relationships are complicated. Guys who desperately want a relationship, have no clue what they want out it. Some want to take a break from mindless, marathon sex. For some, seeking relationship is a passing phase. Some guys just want to prove that they were not responsible for their last break up. Some couples get very close and make room for doubts and insecurity. Some give enough space and bond with infidelity. One partner wants to be open about their polygamy; other partner wants to pretend monogamy. One wants to stay closeted, other wants to do masters in PDA. One is married to woman; his boyfriend is divorced to political correct friends. Now the good news is, there are some couples who have sailed over these rough waters. Couples who have been in a rock solid, strong relationship spanning 1 year to more than 20 years. Couples who are going to share their stories, insights and experiences to address your queries. Well, if you find all this boring, here is the fun quotient. A rapid fire round to judge the most eligible guy for relationship, compatibility test for couples and match fixing. Here is your chance to get an inside view of long-distance, open, bisexual, short-term and whatnot relationships. Or meet guys who are single and happy by choice. If you wish to attend this special meet as a couple or are interested in contesting for Most Eligible Guy for Relationship, pals shoot an email to : umang73sh...@yahoo.co.in Day, Date Time: Sunday, 6th February, 2011 between 3 pm and 6:30 pm. Cover: Free Entry. Venue: Roti Restaurant (formerly Zouk), Hotel Imperial Palace, Telli Galli, Andheri (East); Mumbai Directions: Hotel Imperial Palace is a 5 minute walk from Andheri station on the East side. Walk up the Andheri Kurla Road (towards the Highway) and turn right into Telli Galli. It’s the 3rd building on your right. But if youre driving and taking the Andheri flyover, from West to East, make a left turn at the signal at the end of the flyover. g_b GB's Rainbow Kite Flying on Sun; 16 Jan 2010 at Juhu Beach
GB's Rainbow Kite Flying on Sun; 16 Jan 2010 at Juhu Beach GayBombay is happy to announce what is always one of our most popular events - GB's Rainbow Kite Flying! Day, Date and Time: Sunday 16th January 2011 from 3:30 pm till sundown Venue: Juhu Beach, Mumbai. Contribution: Participation in this event is free. The event is sponsored by GayBombay. On Sunday 16th January at Juhu Beach, from 3:30 pm till sundown. We'll supply the beautiful rainbow kites, you come and get them up! This is always the first big event we have to kick off the year, and it is always a blast. Its one event that always gets lots of guys - and we're particularly happy that this is one event that gets a lot of the girls too (we're less happy about the fact that they always fly their kites better than we do, and cut ours too - but lets see if they do that this year!) It has something to do with the weather, which is always nice now, and also to do with being out in the open - most of our events always happen indoors and in private, so there's something so liberating about being in the open among all the friends and families on Juhu Beach, just another bunch of friends and family which is just the way it should be. This year Makar Sankranti falls on the 15th of January and as always GB will do its kite flying on a close Sunday, this time the Sunday after, on the 16th of January We're sure you'll want to come, so see you there. g_b GB Sunday Meet on HIV at Bandra
Gaybombay has had meets on aspects relating to HIV for years now - safe sex, STDs, testing, living with HIV. And at all these meets we've been aware that there are people who really wanted to come, but were too nervous, or wanted to speak up and ask questions, but again didn't dare. Its the sort of feeling we are familiar with since it is, in a way, like being back in the closet again. Many of those who felt this way have been HIV+ve themselves. Some have been so many years, some only tested recently, some are on medication, some are not, some are just unclear and confused and scared. And some are not positive, but know someone who is - a close friend, maybe a partner. And some may just really want to know more HIV. We've realised that we need to have a meeting for all these people, but one which is a little bit more private than the regular GB meeting. Day, Date Time Sunday, 9 January 2011, between 5 to 8 pm Venue: Bandra Please note this is not a meeting only for HIV+ve people, nor does coming to the meeting identify you as being HIV+ve. Absolute NO pressure will be put on anyone to come out about being HIV+ve - in fact, we would discourage it and recommend that people who do want to speak more openly about their status do so in more private conversations with people they feel they can trust from the meet. And in case anyone does come out about their status at the meet, everyone present will be expected to treat it as strictly confidential. One person who will be identifying himself as HIV +ve at the meeting is the person who will lead it - Jay Vithalani, a gay man from Mumbai, now living in the US, who has had a long association with GB. Jay is not just openly HIV +ve, but is exceptionally well informed on the subject and has had a lot of experience in helping others learn how to inform themselves about the disease and how to cope with it. At the meeting Jay will speak a bit about his personal experience and suggests strategies for people on how to learn to live with the disease. But in general the meeting will be entirely open and free flowing with questions, no matter how basic, encouraged and answered as best as we can. We will try and identify practical information for people in Mumbai, including relevant doctors, support groups and sources of help. The meeting is not a lecture, but a collaborative excercise, helping us find solutions that will work for HIV +ve gay men in Mumbai. If you feel that in any way at all this is something that might be relevant to you, or to people you know, you really should not miss this meet. g_b GB Sunday Meet on HIV at Bandra
Keep going straight for about two minutes; you will see the big blue signboard of 'JUST AROUND THE CORNER' on the left. Cover: Free Entry Note: * PLEASE DO NOT COME DIRECTLY TO THE VENUE (which is generally someone's home), even if you are completely familiar with it and even if you happen to know the owner of the home very well. You are advised to come directly at the venue, mentioned on the website or announced on the mailing list. * Ensure that you get to JATC before 6:30 pm. * Drag is a strict no-no. For the simple reason that though Gaybombay doesn't mind drag, the places that host us do. There are also may be many attendees who will prefer being discreet or may be still be coming to terms with themselves hence a request that all be sensitive to this and act and dress accordingly. * After visiting the post meet venue, no one is allowed to go back to that place unless invited specifically by the owner of the house. * We like to maintain Gaybombay as a comfort zone. This is a platform, which allows hesitant and often apprehensive gays to come and meet other gay people. As such, this platform has a strictly non-sexual framework. This group is not about porn, or orgies, or sex-talk, or escorts, or hook-ups. * Do get your friends along to help them gain access to a group especially if they are not netizens. You do not have to be out to the world to attend. This is a discreet event being held as a clean, safe social get-together of a non-sexual nature. Hardly any of those attending are out as such. * You need to be at least 18 years of age to attend. * For queries, send a mail to eve...@gaybombay.org -- This event is organised by: http://www.gaybombay.org Right of admission reserved. g_b The GayBombay Sunday Meet on Gay Friendship Brotherhood at THANE on 29 August 2010
The GayBombay Sunday Meet on Gay Friendship Brotherhood at THANE on 29 August 2010 Is the only relationship that we know of in our community that of the romantic kind? Is everyone in the community just another sexual entity? In a community that appears to have an extremely high sexual quotient and wherein romantic relationships seem to epitomise over all other relationships. Friendships, the most beautiful relationship in the world that is not dictated by birth but by choice is often trivialised and relegated down the order of importance. Especially in the gay community, our friends become our families of choice, as important or more as our families of origin. In the month that we celebrated Friendships on Friendship Day and the spirit of Brotherhood on Raksha Bandhan, GayBombay attempts to look beyond long-term relationships and one night stands into the realm of long-term friendships among gay men. To celebrate this deep yet quiet, often-understated bond, we have conceptualised a new event - the GayBombay Frienship Brotherhood Meet. Bring along gay friends who has stood by you, been there for you, shared your joys and sorrows, laughed themselves silly with you, or shared a shoulder to cry on. Let us have the unique experience of enveloping ourselves in the circle of love - that passes through each of our hearts. Human emotions are universal - love, courage, trust, responsibility and respect. Let us meet our best friends and share how, in spite of all that competition, rivalry and jealousy within, our human connection navigates, and ultimately trumps our in sexual orientation. Day Date: Sunday, 29 August 2010 Time: 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM. Venue: Café Coffee Day, Panchpkhadi, Thane (West). Cover: Free entry to the meet The Café Coffee Day at Panchpakhadi, Thane, remains the place we gather at before proceeding to someone's place not far off for another round of chatar patar catching up on each others lives or just bitch about nothing :-) We would be at the Cafe Coffee day for approx 30 min from 5.30pm Directions: For those coming by trains: the place is just a 5 minute ride from the Station and you can ask for `Pizza Hut, Panchpakhadi, near Hari Niwas Circle', For those coming by Highway: turn in towards Thane City at Teen Hath Naka (opposite Eternity Mall) and take a left turn just before Hari Niwas Circle. g_b The GayBombay Special Sunday Meet on Prevention, Testing and Living with HIV at Ghatkopar on 6 December 2009
The GayBombay Special Sunday Meet on Prevention, Testing and Living with HIV at Ghatkopar on 6 December 2009 Stop! Wait! Don't delete this invite thinking this is just another HIV Awareness and Safer Sex lecture GayBombay is organising on the occasion of World AIDS Day and that you know it all. Or are you thinking it can't happen to you? Or are you the one who thinks that ignorance is bliss and you don't want sleepless nights wondering if you have got the bug the next time that you have a diarrhoea or fever or a swelling that's taking long to go? If you are going to delete this mail for any of the above reasons than you probably don't care about your life! But the reason you shouldn't decline this invitation and come to this event is because this is not merely a mundane lecture on safer sex practices or HIV prevention and testing as the title may suggest, but an interactive session with an extremely gay-friendly Doctor who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in treating HIV+ people for over 22 years. Dr.Shirish G.Kulkarni, MD, DDV, is a Dermatologist, Venereologist, Leprologist, Sexologist and AIDS Specialist and heads the Thane District ART (Anti Retroviral Therapy) Centre where he is currently monitoring the health of over 9000 HIV+ persons who are registered with the Centre. Dr.Kulkarni will be keeping the academic lecture on HIV AIDS and STDs to a minimum but will be informally sharing his experience and knowledge with us while answering our queries. He will also be dedicating a part of his talk on the research and breakthroughs being made in the field of treatment of HIV. Shy about asking questions? Worried that if you ask a question, others may think you are positive. Rest assured we have devised a mechanism where in questions can be discretely and anonymously asked. If anyone has any concerns or queries on this meeting, please mail Vikram at vik...@gmail.com or Jayesh at de.joy...@gmail.com. Specifically, if you are positive and are worried about being outed about your status at this meeting, please be assured that NO ONE will be asked about their status whether positive or negative. If anyone wants to volunteer personal information that's great, but NO ONE will be forced to reveal anything. And finally, we won't just be looking at AIDS. Horrifying as it is, AIDS is not the only disease that threatens the community. There are a host of other STDs and problems that the community risks and the problem is that as we focus on AIDS, we may be getting lax about these other diseases. We do have a separate workshop planned on STDs, but if anyone has queries on them Dr.Kulkarni will try and answer them. Day Date: Sunday, 06 December 2009 Time: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Venue: Ground floor Dhanji Devshi Rashtriya Shala Near Zaverben Popatlal Sabhagriha, Upashray Lane, Ghatkopar (East) Mumbai 400077 There is NO charge to come to the meet. Directions: For those coming by train: Alight at Ghatkopar Station and exit the station using the Mumbai CST end foot over-bridge on to the eastern side of the station. Walk towards Platinum Shopping Arcade and take a left turn into the lane before it. Walk straight until you hit upon a Jain Temple. Turn left and you have the school on your right. For those coming by the highway: turn into Ghatkopar at Amar Mahal Junction. (Left turn if you are coming from Sion and right turn if you are coming from Thane). Drive down straight until you come to a bridge that crosses the railway line. Turn right onto the road that goes along the railway line. Than take the first right and the left turn at the Jain Temple. Zaverben Popatlal Sabhagriha and Rashtriya Shala are pretty well known in Ghatkopar. And anybody would be able to direct you to the venue once you arrive at Ghatkopar Station East. So don't worry if you can't remember the directions. g_b GayBombay Special Sunday Meet on Coming Out at Bandra
This Sunday's GB meet will be the usual relaxed fun Sunday meet in Bandra but we will have a bit of a focus. October 11th has been designated (not sure by who) Coming Out Day in the US, and taking out inspiration from that we'll be talking about coming out this Sunday. Let us state upfront that GB takes no strong position on coming out. We feel that, in a general way, its the best thing to do, but we recognise that everyone has personal circumstances and levels of comfort that will dictate when you want to come out. There's no requirement at any GB meet - even this Coming Out Day one - that you have to be out or intend to come out. What we will do though is talk about it. How you did it (if you have). Why you don't want to (if you haven't). Tactics on how to do it. Warnings about how not to do it. Discussions on how to handle friends or partners who have or haven't done it. How to do it in groups (oops, maybe wrong sort of doing it). How to handle things if it happens by accident. And whether doing it makes all that much difference. So whether you've done it or not, come and discuss it at the GB meet this Sunday. Day, Date Time: Sunday 11 October 2009, between 6:00 and 6:30 pm Venue: JATC (Just Around The Corner), Near St. Theresa's Church, Dr. K. B. g_b Spl. Sunday Meet: Queer Art Heals the Heart - An Art Workshop on 30 August 2009 at Bandra
Being queer is special. We go through myriad emotions as LGBT people - the bracing excitement of coming out, the darkness of homophobia, the rainbow colours of Pride - not to mention the fabulousness of pink! After the riot of colours at Queer Azaadi 2009, you are invited to meet your inner artist again - to draw, paint, sketch, colour. Experience sublime colours, the feel of crayons between your adult fingers, the myrid textures of papers, the emotions behind each hue of color pencils, the kitsch, the glamour, the noises, the silence that colours posesess. Art your heart out. Gaybombay invites you to an empowering , cathartic evening where art, music and colour fuse to give you a creative evening with zest, liberty and pride. Let us then discuss each others attempt to manifest their inner beauty on paper. Day, Date Time: Sunday 30th August 2009, between 5:45 and 6:00 pm Venue: JATC (Just Around The Corner), Near St. Theresa's Church, Dr. K. B. Keep going straight for about two minutes; you will see the big blue signboard of `JUST AROUND THE CORNER' on the left.
