[Goanet] Press Note on Talk by Prof.Ishtiaq Ahmed at Goa University

2023-07-08 Thread Rahul Tripathi
PRESS NOTE
'Indo-Pak relations are key to South Asia's future' says Prof.Ishtiaq Ahmed

In a world where political and economic situation is in a flux and
cooperation is the only way forward, India -Pakistan relations would hold
the key to South Asia's future, said Prof.Ishtiaq Ahmed, Professor
Emeritus, Stockholm University. Speaking at a talk on the subject co
organized by School of International and Area Studies and DDKosambi School
of Social Sciences, Goa University, the Pakistan born Swedish political
scientist also touched upon the crisis in Pakistan in its formative years
that continues to plague the nation in several ways. While he appreciated
India's remarkable growth in the recent years, he cautioned against the
tendencies of religious polarization and politicization of history, as the
same tendencies have prevented Pakistan from moving on as a nation. While
India can very well move on with its South Asia minus Pakistan approach,
for the latter it may not be an option he asserted. Responding to a
question on Pakistan's position on terrorism, he hoped that the Prime
Minister Shahbaz Sharief's statement at the recent Shsnghai Cooperation
Organization on denouncing the same was made with right intent. He also
recalled being influenced by D.D.Kosambi's writings during his formative
years.Prof.Ahmed has been an acclaimed author of books like 'Pakistan: The
Garrison State', 'Jinnah: His Successes, Failures and Role in History' and
'Punjab : Partioned, Bloddied and Cleansed. The lecture was very well
attended by students, faculty and members of civil society.

[Goanet] PRESS NOTE: Goa's #1 priority for Ministry portfolio allocation: Employment Generation

2022-03-15 Thread Goa IT Professionals
*PRESS NOTE *(March 15, 2022)

*Goa's #1 priority for Ministry portfolio allocation: Employment Generation*

This note is to inform the Press and Media community of Goa that our
association has sent the following letter to the BJP state and national
leaders with suggestions to organize certain key departments towards
successful delivery on Goa’s #1 priority (ie. employment and livelihood
generation) on which the performance of BJP-Goa governments of the last 10
years has been dismal thereby aggravating the sufferings of Goans and
hurting aspirations of Goan youth. Left unattended in BJP-Goa’s upcoming
third term this top-most priority will cost it very dearly on the political
front in the times ahead. Early signs of this are already visible in the
recent election results.

We would much appreciate your kind support to highlight this important
matter through your esteemed publications and channels so that the new
government is compelled to do the right things for Goans to prosper right
here in Goa. Thank you.

**

Date: 14-March-2022

Subject: *Goa's #1 priority for Ministry portfolio allocation: Employment
Generation*

Dear state and national leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party,

Congratulations on your performance in the recent Goa Assembly elections.
It is clearly a mandate for governmental stability and locally sustainable
development towards modern employment generation for Goans to prosper in
Goa.

With the Goa government workforce saturated, new jobs need to come from the
private sector. Our beloved late *Shri Manohar-bhai Parrikar’s dreams *of
reversing Goa’s brain-drain (bit.ly/3t7mNyC) as well as our *visionary
Prime Minister Narendra Modiji’s revolutionary Startup India and Make in
India* initiatives have seen poor progress in Goa over the last 10 years of
your Goa governments. Thousands of unemployed and under-employed Goans,
8000+ young Goans graduating every year and over a lakh of Goans migrated
out in recent decades for employment yearning to return back need *modern,
knowledge-driven, well-paying, green industries such as IT, ITeS, Creative,
Electronics and Manufacturing* in Goa.

Modern employment generation is the “Day One, Priority One” for your new
government! Such a critical matter requires your key ministries to be
organised for efficiency as follows:

1. Employment generation related ministries/departments to be *grouped
together under one minister:* *Industries, Information Technology, and
Skill Development & Entrepreneurship*.

2. Minister chosen for this key portfolio needs to be strong, experienced,
self-driven, open-minded, collaborative, progressive and results-oriented.

3. Avoid other peripheral department(s) in his portfolio to ensure focus
and results.

4. Non-performing past ministers to be excluded from this important role.

5. For maximum acceleration, it would be ideal for the Chief Minister to
lead this key portfolio in mission mode for a year before handing over to
another competent minister.

6. Additionally, the *Education, Science & Technology, and Labour &
Employment* departments must also be held by one such legislator to
facilitate the key portfolio referred in point #1 above.

Scattered organization of these crucial ministries/departments in your Goa
government’s last 2 terms has led to loss of great opportunities for Goa
regarding modern employment generation with egos and power tussles
defeating the greater good.

We hope you consider our above inputs to reverse Goa’s brain-drain ravaging
our beloved homeland since the last few decades and blaze a new trail to a
“Golden Goa”. Assuring you of our full support in this regard as we have
always done since 2012.

*PRESS NOTE*

*7 KONKNNI MARTYRS MEMORIAL FUNCTION ON 4.09.2021*

The Kuwait Konknni Mogi (KKM) and Kuwait Konknni Kendr (KKK), both the
Konknni organizations which were instituted in Kuwait, and working actively
to promote and nurture Konknni in Romi script through its activities, has
renovated the historical 7 Konknni Martyrs Monument, in Agassiam Church
area. The 7 Konknni Martyrs Monumenr was was erected under the leadership
of Agassaim villager, who was working in Kuwait, and well known as late
Shaikh Agnel 34 years ago. Since the Monument was not maintained all these
years, it was seen that the Monument erected to remember and pay respect to
those who have laid down their lives for Konknni, was in a dilapidated
condition. Seeing the historical Monument in such a decrepited condition,
the KKM thought of renovating the same. As KKM took the intiative of
renovating the Monument, the famous Kuwait Konknni Kendr (KKK) came forward
to finance the full renovation work.

In favour of Publication,please

Olencio Simoes , the Spokeperson of Aam Aadmi Party and Candidate for Cortalim
alongwith  Vasant Gopi Naik Candidate forDabolim resigns from  primary
membershipof Aam Aadmi Party.

Vasant Gopi Naik accused theparty for hobnobbing with the BJP’s agenda and
propaganda aiding in destroyingthe secular principles of our constitution of
India.AAP and Arvind Kejriwalhave  shown their clear affiliationand  support to
BJP   right from India Against corruption movementtill date, as he has
supported Article 370 which has bifurcated the state ofJammu and Kashmir .Also
the recent silence on the  communalviolence in northeast Delhi in February 2020
and The Citizenship Amendment Act(Bill) CAA has showcased that still waters run
deep.

Through Olencio’s minuteobservation he has noticed that Arvind Kejriwal has
misled the people of Delhi as his party had foughtthe election promising  Jan
Lokpal Bill,Delhi Swaraj Bill and full statehood for Delhi but has diverted the
peoplesissues to mere freebies.

Naik also stated that Arvind Kejriwal isclearly backed by RSS and BJP who
working like Narendra Modi style as he is roaming around the world to sell
Indiaand Kejriwal is roaming around India with tax payer money to finish India.
he hasalso questioned why Mamta Banerjee of West Bengal, Naveen Patnaik
ofOdisha, Nitishkumar of Bihar, PinarayiVijayan of Kerela,Kalvakuntla
Chandrashekhar Rao of Telangana, Jagan Mohan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh are not
roaming toexpand their party and why is only AAP roaming entire India ??As it
is the BJPwho is supporting him with the entire machinery.

Olencio expressed hisdisappointment with Arvind Kejriwal Government  who
reiterates about honest politics but isnot practised. We need to figure out why
prominent leaders like PrashantBhushan, Yogendra Yadav , Ashutosh and many
other founder members of AAPhave left the party  in a jiffy and thesame holds
for Punjab where the  opposition leader Sukhpal Khaira quit the party along
with 2MLA’s.

Olencio Simoes statedthat the development model is a Jumla in Delhi as the
government health caresystem has failed and Delhi has witnessed more than 25000
deaths during thisongoing pandemic. The distrust was surfacing when he observed
that AAP provedthat they are communal as well as corrupt as their ZP candidate
in Benaulim wonon the fraud OBC certificate . Kejiriwal led government could
have prevented therecent Church demolition in Delhi .His indifferent attitude
shows clearly thatAAP is compromised on its ideology and principles. During
Kejriwal’s recentvisit to Goa he spoke of freebies and electricity but
sidelined the core issuesof Double tracking, River nationalization, CZMP, Coal
and several main issuesof Goa. If a Konkani academy could be set up in Delhi
then  why cant they atleast rebuild the Church in Delhi. It stands  clear that
they are contesting again just  like in 2017 with the sole intention todivide
the secular votes in Goa.

Olencio and Gopi furtherstated that he will decide his political journey ahead
by taking intoconsideration all his well wishers suggestion. Olencio stated
that we Goansneed to be vigilant and introspect the political scenario before
its too lateor this could spell doom for Goa.

[Goanet] Press note issued in the press conference at New Delhi on 19th February 2021

2021-02-19 Thread Venantius J Pinto
All India Kisan Sabha

Press note issued in the press conference at New Delhi on 19th February 2021

Repeal Pro-Corporate Farm Acts
Ensure Legal Guarantee for MSP
Enact Alternative Laws to Protect Farmers’ Interest

The success of the 6th February Chakka Jam and 18th February Rail Roko has
effectively manifested the pan India character of the ongoing farmers’
struggle and sounds a warning to the Modi-led BJP Government. AIKS demands
that the Modi Government should give up its arrogance, repeal the 3 Farm
Acts, withdraw the amendments to the Electricity Act, make MSP@C2+50% a
legal right with guaranteed procurement for all crops across the country
and amend the anti-farmer clauses in the Pollution Ordinance 2020
immediately. All cases foisted on farmers and leaders of farmers
organizations, journalists and others must be unconditionally withdrawn to
resolve the genuine issues raised by the farmers struggle.

The PM while speaking in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha had accused
the protesting farmers of not being ready for reforms and standing for
maintaining the status quo. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Farmers are opposing the pro-corporate reforms and stand for pro-farmer
reforms. The PM is deliberately trying to misguide the people due to his
adamant pro-corporate bias.

The Prime Ministers comment that ‘MSP was there, is there and will remain
there is part of a deliberate campaign to misguide the people. Narendra
Modi and the BJP had promised MSP by ensuring 50% profit above cost of
production in the 2014 Lok Sabha election manifesto, as per the
recommendation of the National Commission for Farmers that was headed by Dr
M S Swaminathan. During the last 7 years in power, the PM did not implement
this promise and is hence directly responsible for the ongoing farmers
struggle.

The existing rate of MSP based on A2+FL calculation is not remunerative and
according to reports only 6% of the farm produce based on the estimate of
Gross Value Added (GVA) has been procured by the Government by providing
this meager MSP. Hence huge majority of the farmers are forced to sell far
below the announced rate of MSP, making MSP only notional for the vast
majority. For example the rate of MSP for paddy is Rs 1868 per quintal but
farmers in Bihar, Jharkhand and many other states get only Rs 800 to Rs
1200 per quintal. It is significant that the LDF Government in Kerala
provides Rs 2850 per quintal for paddy with assured procurement with the
support of the cooperative sector.

The benefit of surplus created out of value addition of farm produce is
amassed by the corporate companies. For example, the farmers receive price
at the range of Rs 18 to Rs 30 per kilo from the intermediaries for Basmati
paddy while the branded Fortune Special Basmati Rice of the Adani group is
being sold at the price of Rs.208 per kilo. Some of the brands are sold in
the range of Rs 700 to Rs 2200 per kilo. Likewise, in the coffee belt the
farmers get Rs 120 to Rs 130 per kilo for coffee beans while the corporate
sector sells instant coffee powder at an average of Rs 3000 per kilo.
Certain brands of coffee like Nestle Blend 37 and Nescafe Gold Organic were
being sold at around 12,000/Kg a few months back and even now are being
sold at Rs.8,000/- to about Rs.10,000/Kg.

This sort of loot and exploitation by the corporate sector and their
intermediaries in the market is one of the main reasons for the widespread
indebtedness of the peasant households and the resultant massive peasant
suicides. Every hour two farmers are committing suicide in India and 2468
peasants per day are forced to give up agriculture.

In the context of the ongoing farmers struggle, AIKS demands that the Union
Government consider the following

The Union Government after consulting all the State Governments must bring
the law for MSP@C2+50% for all crops across the country with guaranteed
procurement to ensure MSP as the right of the farmers.
The primary responsibility to provide MSP@C2+50% lies on those entities
that procure the produce from the farmers. These entities earn income and
profit and sustain out of the trading and processing of farm produce and
marketing of value added consumer products. The MSP law must make them
liable to share certain percentage of the surplus with the primary
producers. Hence, the State Governments should enact a law with the clauses
that make it essential for the agro processing industries, trade and market
enterprises in the private, public and cooperative sectors to share the
surplus they acquire through trade and value addition with the respective
farmers to ensure MSP@C2+50% . Noncompliance shall be treated as an
offence.
The state legislation should include clauses to promote non-profitable
social cooperative institutions of peasants and workers to promote
collective cultivation, procure and trade stock, undertake agro-processing

Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott OlencioSimoes General Secretary and
Vice Chairperson of  National Fishworkers Forum [NFF] said thatfishermen of Goa
and India mourns the demise of our beloved leader and oneamong the tall
stalwarts and General Secretary of  NFF late.Thomas  Peter from Kerala.

Simoes said that he Coming from the background of a fishing village, theson of
Thomas and Clarie Bell dedicated his life and defined his role ofengaging with
and for the struggling communities. Comrade T Peter’s relentlessefforts of
working with the small-scale traditional fishing community acrossIndia spans
over four decades. He served the community with the basicconviction that it is
their voices that should be at the forefront whiledemanding their rights.

He was handed over responsibility at various levels organisationally -leading
Kerala Swathanthra Matsya Thozhilali Federation [KSMTF] at thedistrict and
state levels as the District and was the State Secretary and StatePresident of
KSMTF ,Executive Member of the World Forum of Fisher Peoples(WFFP)and
Syndicate Member of the KeralaFisheries University. He performed the
responsibilities handed over to him withgreat passion and dedication. This was
also visible at various forefronts withour former leaders like Fr Thomas
Kochery, Ram Bhau Patil, Harekrishna Debnath,Matanhy Saldanha and many others
in the anti-trawling struggle, Struggleagainst Joint ventures, Against diluting
of CRZ etc.

Struggle for him did not confine with the fishworkers only but being
insolidarity with various people’s movements nationally, regionally and
locallywith the Narmada Bachao Andolan, Anti Coco-Cola Struggle, Anti
EndosulphanMovement, Anti Kudankulam Struggle, Anti Sterlite Struggle  are a
fewamong the many struggles he shared solidarity with. This definitely
issomething which T.Peter stand apart from various leaders too. His
simplisticand distinct lifestyle is something which was peculiar which was
symbolic aswell as political.

The pandemic has paved way for the untimely departure of our dearcomrade. His
last days of extensive campaign and work was focussed on theproposed upcoming
shipping corridor in the coast and building up alliances tofight

against this draconian project in the garb of Sagarmala which would
bedisplacing thousands of fishworkers from their lives and livelihoods. He
alsowas seriously engaged in bringing and building up a policy for protecting
thefishworkers and the coasts.

As we all are coming to terms with this untimely loss, NFF also standswith
Peter’s family and remember them for their dedication for giving us Peterto
take forward the aspirations of the fishing communities. It will be
Peter’senergy, optimism and politics of a new world is possible that will lead
andhelp us to carry the communities aspirations and vision forward.

*‘Ambeanni’ *

*Wendell Rodricks’ last Memoir in Fashion*

22nd February, 2020.

Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour (15th edition) in collaboration with the
Fashion Design Council of India.

Richardson & Cruddas, Byculla, Mumbai.

Bringing the universe of pride to life, the* Blenders Pride Fashion
Tour* celebrated
its milestone 15th edition by unveiling an exclusive collaboration
with the *Fashion
Design Council of India (FDCI)*. The tour celebrated the festival of
fashion and reflected the ethos of pride through three themes – *Craft,
Identity and Blend* – in the three city chapters of Kolkata (with its
extraordinary craft), Hyderabad (with its consummate synthesis of the
ancient and the modern) and Delhi (with its patent modernity),
respectively. The tour concluded in Mumbai on an extravagant note with an
artistic display in a museum-style exhibit of 45 of the country’s leading
designers clothes and ended with a spectacular fashion presentation,
featuring 15 design behemoths that showcased iconic ensembles truest to
their DNA. The hour-long event kick started with Bollywood actor and brand
ambassador for BPFT, Priyanka Chopra paying homage to the late Wendell
Rodricks. At a prior event in the day, a beautiful tribute video of the
Master Couturiere was aired that brought an endearing tear to many. The
Chairman of the FDCI, Mr. Sunil Sethi along with Schulen Fernandes
(Creative Head - Wendell Rodricks) announced that the legacy of the
eponymous label will continue to successfully operate in the future, just
as it has in the past. Thus, posthumously honoring the vision of the late
Designer when he set a new standard for the industry by handing over the
mantle to Ms.Fernandes in August 2016. She has been handling the business
ever since, while Wendell had moved on to his next and soon to be fulfilled
ambitious project, the Moda Goa Museum. The ‘Ambeanni’ collection is
Wendell’s last fashion work before his sudden demise two weeks ago and is a
fitting tribute to Colvale, his village of belonging and his home state of
Goa.

*The ‘Ambeanni’ Collection* / Wendell’s last memoir in fashion is an
extremely special collective of the late pioneering designer’s resort
style *minimalistic
design ideology*; crafted in the early 90’s for India and inspired by it’s
beach state of Goa. Staying true to the brand’s blue print, the collection
uses *natural fabrics like linen and silk* to create fluid effortless
fashion in Wendell’s favourite and what eventually came about to be
his *signature
colour, ‘White’*. The six ensembles celebrate the six ‘Ambeanni’ trees in
the label’s classic *design inventions like the backless crop top, sarong
style tie skirt, anti-form fitting gowns in dramatic proportions and a
beautiful knitted handcrafted detail *in subtle hints of gold*.* The
collection employs a very elaborate *three-dimensional* facet to every
ensemble in the form of *intricately knitted pieces* by the extremely
talented local artist, Reena Bino. The exquisite knitted details celebrate
the beauty of the mango trees that were so dear to Wendell in the form of
leaf, stem, veins and flowers. The featured knitted designs are in *styles
of ginormous layered circles, aero-dynamic breast plates, cape sleeves in
flair, over sized grand earrings and custom form fitted necklaces* that
highlight the *brand’s long standing statement* *centre-staging slow
fashion with an artisanal touch.* In true Wendell Rodricks iconic
style; *gravity
defying necklines, ‘Cutting on Square’ drapes, zero fastening silhouettes
and spartan sparkle embroidery *made a delectable appearance on the ramp.
Truly taking the legacy forward, Creative Head – Schulen Fernandes
presented Wendell’s last pieces of fashion art to an enraptured audience of
fashion enthusiasts and celebrities, taking a bow in honour of the legend
that is Wendell Rodricks.

 THE ZENTANGLE COLLECTION
SCHULEN FERNANDES FOR WENDELL RODRICKS
FDCI LOTUS MAKEUP INDIA FASHION WEEK
SPRING SUMMER 2020
NEW DELHI.

Designer and Padma Shri awardee Wendell Rodricks and the label's creative
head Schulen Fernandes on invitation by the Fashion Design Council of India
presented their Zentangle collection alongside three other stellar Indian
designers Anamika Khanna, Manish Arora and Rajesh Pratap Singh as part of
the LMIFW's Grand Finalé on 12th October.

Schulen Fernandes for Wendell Rodricks took from the label's archives and
put the Zentangle Collection in a future realm with its stark modernity,
tribal history and dramatic look. Zentangle is an elegant metaphor and
model for inspiring a deliberate artistry in life. The art form uses simple
lines and curved spaces in a deliberate unplanned manner so that it can be
viewed from any side. This is the reason many tribal art forms adopt a
Zentangle approach unconsciously in their art. The collection is thus also
inspired by tribal body painting and is a tribute to the first ever
collection that Wendell Rodricks presented in his career. Using a
minimalist resort palette of white, silver, sand and azure blue as well as
fabrics like cotton, lycra, linen and georgette, the styles featured
silhouettes that were large and voluminous with a cinched or exposed slim
waist. Zentangle art, crochet, silver woven lines and shimmer accents
appear in the collection. The accessories are all tribal inspired and
deliberately elaborate in style using flowers, lace, wire, beads, bamboo,
metal and feathers.

Further and more importantly this collection was all about celebrating the
LMIFW's all-inclusive theme. Besides the regular ramp supermodels the
ensembles were featured on four special fashion influencers like burn
victorious Sharan, voluptuous gorgeous Sakshi, stylish transgender Ravi and
openly out gay model Siddharth Dangi. Truly making it a complete visual
statement of #myfashionmytribe in Minimalist Resort style that was Grand
Finalé worthy for the Fashion Designer Council of India’s Lotus Makeup
India Fashion Week.

Mr. Sunil Sethi, president of the FDCI in a statement said "these four
eminent Designers were the leading lights whose attention to detail was
unquestionable as their presentations showed how design may look diverse,
but the grid remains congruous.'

Actress Kangana Ranaut closed the show to thunderous applause from the
audience, that comprised a front row of the crème de la crème of the
capital city as well the fashion elite of the industry and Bollywood
celebrity Sonam Kapoor. The collection was absolutely loved and received
effusive praise by the fashion press and fashion enthusiasts alike.

2019-09-17 Thread Retreat N Style
 Dear ASI Goa,
This is an open letter to your order/request to register all our antiques
in private homes/collections/museums in Goa with your esteemed office.
In two weeks as of Friday 13th September 2019. Two weeks? Our homes
Sir/Madam are over two hundred years old and you expect us to register the
entire house objects in two weeks?
Do you expect us Goans to employ staff to count everything in our homes?
Our great grand mother’s earrings, our great great grandfather’s toilet
seat, the floor tiles 400 years old, the laterite kitchen sink, the tiles
on our roofs? Yes. These are the less precious objects. What you want are
antiques that can be sold, traded and valued right?
If so why only private homes? What about public places? In all Government
offices we see antiques. Chandeliers in the Adil Shah Palace heisted by
Smart City don’t feature in this list? Why don’t you ask them all to
register their antiques. For centuries (yes you read that right) the
Cabo/Raj Bhavan has been looted by successive Governors of it’s antique
furniture, porcelain and silver. Are Government offices above this law?
Talking about law, is this a law or is this a request? What if we don’t
want to declare our so called daily objects that you classify as antiques?
How can private homes like the Menezes Braganza in Chandor or the
Figuereido House in Loutolim register their entire homes in two weeks? Are
you going to depute them staff to do the count of the objects? It will take
months. Are you going to go to every church, temple, place of worship to do
a registry of their antiques? Where do we start? Old Goa itself will take
almost a year or more to count it’s treasures... from books to candelabras,
vestments to minuscule statues.
Are you going to go into bank vaults to check our jewellery? Old Goan Hindu
and Catholic gold that has been with families for generations? What about
clothes? Saris gifted through families? The porcelain we eat from daily
without looking at their over hundred year vintage? They are antiques
according to you. The same goes for the chairs we sit on and the beds we
sleep in, the home deities we worship and the walls that boundary our
homes. They are all antiques.
What about Goans who live overseas or work abroad? You expect them to rush
home in a week and list their antiques with you. That is daft and
impractical Sir/ Madam.
So please Sir/Madam, get this hare brained idea out of your head. Go and do
your real work to protect our Goan heritage. Go to the fields and hills
with treasures. Identify trees over hundred years old and protect them. Get
the dovorems (go look up what those are) laterite platforms, the monoliths,
the abandoned forts and garbage strewn tirths, the old wells used as dumps,
the hero stones and sacred stones unprotected in forests. Get them
registered and accounted for. Goa is an open museum for the taking and
looting. Get there first before private homes.
As for museums, have a proper Goa Museum or take over the Old Secretariat
and place the precious objects for public viewing. Don’t build another
‘sinking’ museum that will be demolished in ten years. In the process more
treasures will be lost. We Goans are not stupid. We all know how the coin
collection was looted during the transfer from the Menezes Braganza Hall in
Panjim to the new ex Goa State Museum. Did you keep a count of that loot
that included rare Impressionist paintings? No.
Sorry Sir, those who have a museum or want to protect their treasures may
register with you. We want to. Will you provide us armed guards, CCTV and
Alarm systems please?
If so we will register our antiques with you. But two weeks? You mean two
weeks from now in 2020
I remain humbly and proudly Goan,
Wendell Rodricks

*SCHULEN FERNANDES for WENDELL RODRICKS DAZZLES FASHIONISTAS AT AMAZON
INDIA FASHION WEEK.* At the recently concluded Fashion Designers Council of
India Amazon India Fashion Week in Delhi, Schulen Fernandes for Wendell
Rodricks won over the fashion media and public by showing for the first
time a bridal collection aimed exclusively at Resort Destination Weddings.

>From the opening notes of composer Eric Serra who did the music for Jean
Luc Bresson’s magnum opus film The Big Blue, the panoramic LED backdrop and
slinky, sexy bridal resortwear and red carpet worthy gowns wowed the
audience into spontaneous cheers and applause.

“With Goa as the country’s leading wedding destination, it made sense to
show a collection more in sync with the destination”, says Schulen
Fernandes, obviously delighted at the fashion show’s effusive reaction and
thundering applause.

Designer Wendell Rodricks was equally happy at the reception to The White
Carpet Collection for Liva. “It is time to give the Indian bride an
alternate option to the traditional lengha choli with gold embroidery and
crystals. What my well deserved successor Schulen has done is a remarkable
first. Now brides and their entourage can choose a total resort wedding
designer look; trousseau for the bride, clothes for her entourage, from
reception to mehndi on the beach front, to even carrying a part of the sexy
gowns for her honeymoon. I hope Schulen adds a groom’s collection next
season”.

Nelson Jaffrey at Liva Liquid Fashion who provided the fabric for the six
designer show and sponsored the collection was overjoyed at the Schulen
Fernandes for Wendell Rodricks’ White Carpet Collection finale that closed
the fashion show. “It was simply stunning and we will work together closely
in the future”, Mr Jaffrey beamed with pride post show.

Adding to the glamour of the collection were creative footwear by Tres Mode
and spectacular diamond jewellery by The House of MBj.

As soon as the show closed, social media was filled with congratulations
and flattering comments for the Goan designers path breaking, innovative
collection.
“We look forward to a new designer market where not only is Goa or
Carribean, Dubai or Bali, the wedding destination but that the wedding
wardrobe goes resortwear as well with the new millennial bride who want a
dream wedding in every way” concluded Padma Shri award winning designer
Wendell Rodricks.

Fabrics like foil print rippled lycra, soft satin linen, wrinkle-free

'Reverse the Trend'. The Design Space will witness the exclusive launch of
the new men’s grooming essential brand ‘RawNature’. Exquisite and
effective, Raw Nature is an intelligently-curated vegan brand with high
performance, botanical and safe grooming formulations for men.

The brand successfully addresses 2 gaping holes in the domestic men’s
grooming market - the lack of emphasis on safety in men’s personal care
products and the absence of grooming solutions for men’s specific skin and
hair concerns tailored to India’s tropical climatic conditions.

Packed with natural extracts, essential oils and bio-actives tested
rigorously for maximum safety and efficacy, Raw Nature’s product portfolio
covers the entire gamut of men’s specific face, skin, shower, beard, hair
and for the first time in India, men’s hitherto under-addressed
below-the-belt needs. The price ranges from Rs.600/- to Rs.1200/-

In the week to follow, we also host two special designers :

*‘Silvense’ by Vrindaa Ashwani*

(Jewellery)

Silvense founded in New Delhi in 2014 manifests in it's designs the power
of freedom and individuality. With each design, the label embodies the
philosophy of originality and uniqueness; the jewellery is minimalistic,
pragmatic, clean and contemporary. It uses an amalgamation of metals like
silver, brass and gold and each piece is a unique soul of exquisite design
and deep-rooted essence of luxury. The price ranges from Rs.3500/- to
Rs.9000/-

*‘Gush’ by Vrinda and Manav.*

(Shoes)

GUSH was started by Vrinda, a National Institute of Fashion Technology
graduate with Manav, a Business Studies graduate & a lawyer. Two friends,
each with a very distinct style but a common passion ~ to create beautiful,
timeless pieces to express their love for design. In this age of mass
production and fast collections, GUSH humbly bows down to the age-old
Indian pride of ‘karigari’. Raw materials are carefully selected to create
designs that are environmentally aware and cruelty free. Each product is
modern in sensibility but handcrafted meticulously using traditional
craftsmanship techniques to ensure the finest quality. The price ranges
from Rs.2000/- to Rs.3000/-.

Subject: Toilets Survey as initiated by Government

Reacting to the recent declaration by Government to undertake individual
household toilet survey through DRDA, the AAP Quepem coordinator said that the
intervention of AAP has woken up the government.

Mrs. Patricia Fernandes said that People from 23 villages in Quepem taluka were
suffering for the last 20 years although they were promised toilets during
every election. However it’s during AAP Door to Door campaign that the Dirty
picture came to light and in disgust the people confided with AAP and the AAP
Goa Women Front took the issue and submitted petition to South Goa Collector at
Margao along with the women from tribal villages of Sanguem, Canacona and
Quepem. AAP will closely monitor along with the people the ground realities of
this announcement made by the government as it might turn out to be another
“Jhumla”.

AAP women front was instrumental in awaking the Local MLA of Quepem who has
reportedly inaugurated the work of construction of 219 Sulabh toilets after AAP
submitted petition to South Goa Collector on 14 November. AAP is happy that due
to their intervention the Local MLA himself acknowledged that there is need 219
for toilets after being elected from Quepem for 4 terms. AAP will monitor all
these claims made by the politicians and expose them as with ground realities.

AAP is committed for the welfare of the people and will not leave any stone
untouched to enable them to avail all facilities they are entitles to.

[Goanet] PRESS NOTE ~FESTIVE PROMOTION AT WENDELL RODRICKS DESIGN SPACE

2017-11-02 Thread Retreat N Style
*PRESS NOTE*

The Wendell Rodricks Design Space opens this festive season with a
collective of three amazing creators: Gevan Hoogewerf-Abreu, a leading cake
designer specialising in stunningly exquisite wedding & special occasion
cakes. Suzanne Pillai, a former Miss India (1990)/supermodel showcasing a
line of beautifully embellished stoles from her label ‘*Wrapture*’ and Kim
Maria Figueiredo, a native Goan jewellery designer who’s delicately
handcrafted ‘Saraguro’ accessories are one of a kind.

Gevan’s passion for baking from a young age led her to complete a course in
bakery & confectionary at the prestigious IHM, Mumbai. Following soon after
with a basic course in sugar-craft. With her natural flair for sugar-paste
work, she is self-taught in creating artisanal floral decorations to
complement and adorn her delicious cakes. Keen to be among the finest
speciality cake makers in the country, she has enhanced her creative skills
learning new techniques with acclaimed cake makers in the UK and New
Zealand. She will take orders for custom designed wedding and party cakes
for Goa and Mumbai during the period of the promotion.

Suzanne started designing shawls three years ago, at the suggestion of a
friend who admired her flair for style. Her chic shrugs & stoles are what
the clinking chatterati love to wrap themselves in every winter.
*Wrapture’s* luxurious Pashminas are interestingly adorned with chantilly
lace, crochet and shimmer details. Making them the perfect fashion
accessory to complete your festive look or as a gift option.

Kim hails from a family of artists, thus effortlessly mastering the art of
the intricate handmade ‘Saraguro’ jewellery. Each piece is individually
designed and created by Kim herself from thousands of tiny glass beads
sourced from Japan & the Czech Republic, crystals from Jablonex Preciosa and
artistically woven together only with Nymo and Fireline imported from U.S. to
ensure the best quality.

Suzanne Pillai's scarves retail from Rs. 4,050/-, Kim Figueiredo's beaded
jewels from Rs. 500/- and Gevan’s cakes start from Rs.10,000/- onwards.

Fashion Designer Wendell Rodricks looks forward to welcome these beautiful
innovators in Goa. "It is such a pleasure to have Gevan, Suzanne and Kim at
my flagship store in Panjim. Gevan’s masterpieces in sugar-craft left me
speechless. The finesse & craftsmanship of her work is simply astounding
and her cakes are decadently delicious. Suzanne has been my model since the
late 1980's and is one of India's most charming, beautiful ladies. When I
first saw her shawls, I was struck by their elegance and luxury. As for Kim
Figueiredo, one look at her exquisite beadwork needed no convincing that we
should promote her intricate, dazzling talent. I am sure Goa will enjoy
viewing and indulging these three talents and treasures at the Wendell
Rodricks Design Space in Panjim".

A preview of the design collective will be at the Wendell Rodricks Design
Space, Campal, Panjim on the 3rd November from 11.00 am till 6.00 pm with
Gevan & Kim Figueiredo. The merchandise will be on display and sale to the

Dear officials of Goa Govt.

GITP would like to make the following suggestions for E-governance
initiatives the government may be planning:

* Presently, online payments of utility bills are enabled on the websites
of individual departments. Citizens have to visit websites of individual
departments such as Electricity, City Corporation, etc. This can be replaced
by a much more convenient mode of payment, the Bharat Bill Pay System
(BBPS). Each department can electronically provide the bills to BBPS. BBPS
acts as a single window for all bills. Several banks have now integrated
with BBPS and hence bill payments can now be made from an online banking
channel of any bank.

* Birth certificates, driving licenses, state board marksheets, etc. are
currently issued in physical form. The DigiLocker allows government
departments as well as any other organization to additionally provide the
document in electronic form by storing it in the AADHAR-linked DigiLocker
account of the citizen. The agency needs to know the AADHAR number of the
citizen. The agency then has to convert the document into an electronic form
and store it into the citizen's account. The documents stored in DigiLocker
can be accessed by any other department if the citizen provides as approval
without having to phyically submit copies. Departments, panchayats,
municipal corporations of Goa can adopt this technology so that citizens
never lose their documents and do not have to carry them when approaching
the government for any services.

* Village Panchayats are expected to set up their websites as announced
recently. This should not make every Panchayat develop a website. A single
multi-tenant website should be made by the Panchayat department and every
Panchayat should be allowed given a section on the website to upload their
details. Payment of taxes, etc. can be implemented just once. This will save
a lot of cost. This is possible using frameworks like Drupal.

* A travel guide App specially made for Tourist/People visiting Goa. We can
enlist the different category of Service Provider like 1- Travel- Taxi,
Rickshaw, Travel Agent, Rent-A-Bike, Private Cruise, etc. 2- Food List the
different Restaurants with Authentic Cuisines. 3 - Events, Etc. We can have
numerous services that can be included with some nominal charges to the
interested party.

* All departments should allow filling forms online. The details of the
person should be obtained from the UID system based on his AADHAR number.
The citizen should NOT have to take a printout of the form. He has to be
only physically present at the department to electronically sign on an
electronic pad.

* Currently each government department has its own website. Instead, the
department of IT

[Goanet] [PRESS NOTE] GITP Welcomes Budget Commitments for IT and Employment, gives recommendations to fulfill it

2017-03-28 Thread Goa IT Professionals - GITP
*-BEGIN-*

*GITP Welcomes Goa Budget Commitments for IT and Employment, Recommends
Ways to Fulfill it*

Goa IT Professionals welcomes Mr. Parrikar’s strong commitments in his
budget towards Goan education reforms to align with international
benchmarks, and, generation of high-income modern employment for Goans to
prosper in Goa. GITP is glad to have contributed in various ways to this
endeavor so far, and assures full-hearted support to turn these words into
reality on a war-footing given the urgency of the situation in Goa.

The declarations and provisions made in the budget have sparked a new hope
among thousands of Goan IT professionals and their families. GITP
appreciates the importance laid on the IT industry as it employs
professionals from several educational streams and stands to eliminate
Goa's long standing problem of unemployment, brain drain and outward
migration.

*GITP has further made below recommendations on ways to achieve the
commitments made by Goa Govt in the Budget 2017*, based on the current
state of the industry:

*Government projects*
The budget lays stress on digitization of government records. Many
government departments will have to undertake IT projects. The startup
policy should make provision for preferring companies with local presence
for these projects.

*Ease of Doing Business*
All procedures and necessary forms should be available on a website. There
should be a single windows that needs to be approached for starting a
business. Many states have enforced time-bound clearances of industrial
projects. A project is deemed to be approved if there is no response from
the government within 15 days. As a small state, Goa can do far better than
this.

*Plug and Play centers*
The incubation centers proposed in the budget should offer plug and play
services and should not be restricted for startups that need incubation. A
company looking for setting up in Goa should be able to start on a small
scale in these centers and later move to the IT Park. All necessary
infrastructure such as reliable power, internet, etc. should be managed by
the center, allowing prospective companies to immediately start their
business without infrastructural hassles.

*Effective Marketing*
The government needs to get into overdrive to visit mid-sized companies in
other parts of the country and understand their needs. From the interaction
we have had so far, most companies need and environment that lets them
focus on their business without worrying about regulations, water supply,
transport, internet and power generation.

*Utilization of existing spaces*
Though the IT park is 2 years away, the government and IPB should
facilitate the setting up of development units in the state in existing
workspaces. Most of the large companies in other cities have started on a
couple of floors before moving to larger premises.

*Tax relief*
The government should announce a tax relief to IT and ITES companies for at
least 5 years proportionate to the percentage of local manpower. This will
make Goa a profitable location and will encourage companies to hire local
talent. Once we have a sizable number of companies in Goa, there will be
enough manpower to attract more companies to the state.

*Upgradation of school labs*
IT-literacy in rural Goa is suffering due to non-working PCs in schools.
These can easily be revived with cost effective solution proposed and
demonstrated by GITP using devices such as Raspberry Pi.

To: Hon. Chief Minister, members of ruling alliance
CC: Press

Dear members of the Goa Govt.,

In the past Goa has suffered because of rampant outward migration of its
youth resulting in the dilution of its identity. The political parties that
are part of the new government had stressed upon job creation in their
manifestos. The government has to enable citizens to earn their livelihood
rather than depend on allowances given by the government.

Goa already has a disproportionate number of civil servants per capita. All
future job creation needs to happen in the private sector in knowledge-based
and green industries such as IT, Electronics and manufacturing. We should
have high-income modern employment options for our youth without having to
leave the state. The government now needs to get working in this direction
from Day One. This is the only way we can get rid of the immoral economy
that is currently powering Goa.

We request certain changes to the administrative setup:
Industry and IT should be headed by a single minister
It is necessary to build a perception about Goa as an investment-friendly
state. The minister will be expected to coordinate among the departments and
take holistic decisions. Several industries complement each other. IT
industry works for other industries. They cannot be looked at in isolation.
The minister needs to be energetic and have excellent communication skills
to be able to interact with potential investors.

Departments of Industries and IT should have a single full-time director
So far the Directors have been given additional charge leaving them no time
to focus on effective functioning of their departments. All states have a
full-time Director for these critical departments. Goa being a small state
should appoint a single IAS officer in charge of both the departments.
Again, this role requires a dynamic and energetic individual.
The departments should be given time-bound targets in terms of job creation
in the private sector.

Involve industry professionals as advisers
Several professionals like us are willing to voluntarily offer their
services and expertise to the Government. We request the government to
capitalize on this motivation of professionals from the industry and involve
them in the policy-making and its execution.

All the infrastructure that is getting developed needs to benefit Goan
natives and not just tourists. For that to happen, Goans have to be retained
in Goa. We hope the new dispensation will give utmost importance to
fulfilling this need Goa screams for. As a responsible organisation, The Goa
IT Professionals pledge their support, time and energy in bringing back our
sons of soil.

[Goanet] PRESS NOTE: RALLY FOR GOA 26th Jan.

2017-01-27 Thread Roxanne Coutinho
*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE *

Date of release: 27-Jan-2017

*Rally for Goa” Public Meeting held in the Panjim Garden on Republic Day*

*GOA (27-Jan-2016): *The organisers of the Rally for Goa – a public meeting
called by several public interest organisations in the state – informed
media that a total of 30 organisations had decided to accept the Goenchi
Mati Movement's (GMM) proposal to have a meeting to prepare a citizens'
manifesto for the coming elections on February 4. However, by the time the
Rally actually started, the number of organisations had swelled to 54.
Civil society organisations that the GMM did not know of came to the Panjim
Garden asking for their names to be added to the list for the People's
Manifesto.

The largest contingent came from Sanguem, from the ward that is opposing
the erection of the distillery at Amdai. However activists came in from as
far as Valpoi, Caurem, Cavelossim and Cansaulim. Ramesh Gauns, though ill,
came from Bicholim. Others who came to see and give support to the rally's
objectives included Wendell Rodricks, Floriano Lobo, Valmiki Naik.

The Rally was called to produce a People's Manifesto. For the past weeks,
political parties have been coming out with their manifestoes. However, in
none of these are serious issues bothering the voters included. The status
of these party manifestoes is also not certain, since most parties simply
forget what they have promised in these documents. Often they even act
contrary to the promises in the manifesto. It was therefore thought that a
manifesto prepared by a large number of civil society organisations would
definitely force the candidates standing for election to take notice.

There were no speeches made at the Rally. Three speakers (Dadu Mandrekar,
Miguel Braganza and Claude Alvares) merely conveyed the substance of the
issues facing the various organisations that had come for the Rally. People
who had come for the Rally were encouraged not to sit, but move around the
garden talking to the various social activists who had been provided with
tables to present their posters and leaflets. This proved to be an
attractive part of the Rally, and the boring feature of political meetings
– endless speeches by various persons – was completely avoided.

The principal focus of the meeting, which was largely organised by GMM, was
putting pressure on election candidates to adopt the Goenchi Mati proposals
on mining and sale of natural resources.

An attractive feature of the Rally – which successfully turned the
atmosphere of the Panjim Garden into a celebration of people power or
flower power -- was the hundreds of balloons embossed with the Goenchi Mati
logo. These balloons were released immediately on completion of the Goenchi
Mati pledge, which the assembled people heartily endorsed with hands
raised. The text of the pledge, read out in both Konkani and English, is
given below:

“*I pledge to the people and future generations of Goa that I will
actively support, promote and vote for the implementation of the Goenchi
Mati Manifesto, and that I will oppose and vote against any and all
attempts to cheat you of your mineral inheritance or the income from it.*”

The Rally was enlivened by the antics and mimicry of stand up comedian
Manohar Bingi from Ponda and by satirical songs -- including one on the
mining loot -- sung by Francis de Tuem, the well known tiatrist. The entire
function was compered by the irrepressible Felly Gomes from Assagao who
ensured there was never a dull moment. A panel discussion allowed six young
voters (five women and one male) to voice their feelings about the coming
elections and Goa's future.

The list of issues will now be put together in a people's manifesto and
handed over personally to the political leaders of the various parties in
Goa. Thereafter copies will also be handed over to the candidates standing
for election. Goenchi Mati Movement members will ask them for their
responses to the people's manifesto by 2nd February, when the responses
will go on social media and guide people on which candidates accept the
manifesto.

The Election Commission accepted the invitation of the GMM to depute
officials with the new voting machines. Participants at the Rally were able
to test the machines and familiarise themselves with the method of using
them successfully. After voting, voters can now verify that the vote was
correctly registered on the machine.

The entire Rally was put together by the Goenchi Mati team which included
Rahul Basu, Shrayragi Israni, Roxanne Coutinho, Vishal Rawlley, Joana and
Tamer Pyres, Andrea Rodricks, Lina Vincent and several others. Film
teams from Video Volunteers and William Rodrigues from St Estevam filmed
the entire event.

The Goenchi Mati Movement is a single issue movement which is by policy not
aligned with political parties. GMM has asked parties to endorse and
incorporate the Goenchi Mati Manifesto into their manifestos for the Goa
Assembly elections on Feb 4. The

[Goanet] [PRESS NOTE] Goa IT Manifesto 2017 (GITP)

2016-12-14 Thread Goa IT Professionals - GITP
Dear members of the Press and Media,

Please find below the *Goa IT Manifesto 2017 (GITP)
*
for all the political parties contesting the upcoming Goa State elections
2017. This Goa IT Manifesto is created by the GITP Core Team with inputs
from a wide range of experts and industry stalwarts from Goa, India and
beyond. It is imperative that any party or individual contesting this
election for serving Goans, include the thoroughly researched findings of
Goan IT community in their party manifesto and work towards making Goa a
smart and technology driven state.

*Considering failure of the current BJP and previous governments in
creating any kind of employment avenues for vast number of educated Goans
who are left to wander in other cities seeking livelihoods, selling local
lands and forcing Goa into a failed state with lost Goan identity. The
current sorry state of Goan employment and Industry scenario continues even
after the current stable government at state and center or the previous
Congress and UPA stable govts, and even so after a huge mandate given to a
forward looking politician like Ex-CM Mr Parrikar and current CM Mr
Parsekar, all the politicians have successively failed the Goan youth. *

*We wish to reiterate that any political entity contesting the 2017 Goa
state assembly elections which does not accord high priority in their
manifesto to the creation of high-income employment opportunities for Goans
in Goa through clean, green IT and similar industries needs to be treated
as anti-Goan by all Goan voters.*

We request you to include our initiative along with the below summary in
your media coverage.

**

Goa IT Manifesto 2017 (GITP) - Summary

Central Theme: High-income employment opportunities for Goans to prosper in
Goa through clean, green and locally sustainable Information Technology
(IT) industry and affiliated economy! Any political individual or party
that ignores this important matter and prefers to trade in the usual social
divisions and dole schemes intends to keep our locals subdued for easy
political manipulations, and hence is clearly anti-Goan, anti-progress and
anti-national. For it is only when Goans can make high-income, ethical
livelihoods in Goa through their talents and hard work will Goa rise with
rest of India.

*Key Points*:

   - IT Industry = regular IT companies, tech startups, technology-enabled
R, Engineering Design, Animation, Gaming, Movie, Music, IT Enabled
Services like BPO, KPO, Call Centers, tech freelancers, content creation
   etc.
   - Implement current Goa IT Investment Policy 2015 immediately in
entirety and get the Chimbel IT Park completed on a war footing taking the
   locals into confidence.
   - Form two fully-empowered, target-bound and publicly transparent teams:
   - Goa IT Advisory Council – Technology veterans and experts for best
   ideas and global network
   - Goa IT Taskforce – joint govt-industry-academia team fully responsible

   - Get Goa among the Top 10 Indian states for ease of doing business
   (EODB)
   - Integrate and streamline all Goa government IT related bodies under
single professional command with publicly transparent performance reviews
   of entire team.
   - Upgrade Goa’s basic IT infrastructure for high-speed broadband
connectivity and reliable electricity supply to every corner of Goa.

villages and village-clusters of Goa. Promote distributed IT Anywhere work
production from any corner of Goa.
   - Overhaul the entire Goa state education system from school-college
level to promote greater collaboration between educational institutions and
industry, and ensure our students are oriented towards innovation,
entrepreneurship and industry on completing their education.
   - Reverse brain-drain of Goans from Indian/global IT industry to Goa for
   high-grade workforce.
   - Avoid regressive job reservations for locals in IT industry through
high incentives for companies tied to local workforce component besides
strong financial support for locals for education and skills development.
   - Create a Goa Innovation Fund to get international funding for local
   talent developing international grade work.
   - Provide funding and other support for local talent to create
technological solutions to local needs and problems.
   - Exploit central government initiatives and platforms, and establish
partnerships with national/global tech giants to foster a widespread
   technology-enabled innovation culture in Goa.
   - Make Goa into a global hot destination for technology-related
conferences and exhibitions leveraging Goa’s global brand for tourism.

Serendipity Arts Festival 2016 ten objects related to Goan costume that are
not mere museum objects. Each has a story worth recounting. A history about
Goan mythology, Gods, people, customs, traditions, festivals and folklore.
In a setting inspired from graffiti painted walls of religious sanctums,
palatial manors and humble homes, the lacy effect of the Goan graffiti
painting set the ambience of Ten Histories: Goan Costume.

Apart from the sole prehistoric photograph in the exhibition that has an
engraved laterite rock to support it, the objects are part of a sixteen
year collection that represent a minuscule part of what the Moda Goa Museum
in Colvale will display when it opens in late 2018. This collection is an
attempt to reveal Goan histories pertaining to costume. But it is also a
door to open a dialogue with you the viewer. Suggestions are welcome and
encouraged in our Visitors Comment book.

Goan Costume opens 16th December at The Old Secretariat/ex Adil Shah Palace

*GITP disappointed with Goa Govt's failure in improving Ease of Doing
Business in Goa.*

Goa government has yet again disappointed the Goan youth as its rank on the
Ease of Doing business in Goa dropped from 19 to 21 in the latest state
wise report. With election code of conduct coming barely in 2 months,
govt's inaction on important issue of employment and bringing industry to
Goa, clearly shows this government is no different than the previous
governments.

In a recent interview CM Parsekar claimed that for Goa the low EODB rank is
wrongly projected and is not improving as Goa is already reformed. This
however is far from true and the fact is that not just the new and upcoming
units, even the existing units are facing hardships due to old and stale
processes. The compliance procedures are not listed on any government
website. Entrepreneurs have to rely on information spread by word of
mouth. With no single window clearance procedure in place, registrants are
left to run pillars and posts to complete initial registration procedures.
Demands of bringing important departments online have been consistently
ignored by the government.

The Investment Promotion Board which was supposed to be a single window for
clearance has become yet another window. Again there is no website for
approaching or contacting this window. This compared to other states, who
have been running single window systems for years, have major of their
departments and procedures online and have set records in starting new
investments/units in mere 15 days.

It has been a collective failure on the part of the government as well as
industry bodies in resolving the issues related to EODB. Goa has the
highest number of government employees per capita. Yet the resultant
effectiveness evident from such reports proves to be a case of maximum
government and minimum governance.

GITP demands that the work on the industry and employment promotion be
expedited. We also demand to release statistics on number of jobs this
government has created in knowledge based industries like IT, Electronics,
and R

Given the poor track record of this government while formulating and
releasing the Investment Policy and that *till date not even one IT company
has invested in Goa nor any employment has been generated in the IT sector*
due to Government efforts, GITP feels same treatment is being given to
reforms, IT park work, startup and investment promotion, while priority is
being given to freebies and doles in the name of Digital India.

GITP as always assures full and active support to the government for
enabling locally sustainable IT industry and employment generation in Goa.
We also wish to remind this government of the promises it made to the local
youth during last elections about jobs and stopping the brain drain and
warn about effects of governments failure on this fronts in the coming
elections.

[Goanet] [Press Note] GITP LAUDS DIRECTOR OF IT'S EFFORTS IN IMPROVING IT SCENARIO IN GOA

2016-10-20 Thread Goa IT Professionals - GITP
Dear members of Goan media,

Goa IT Professionals [GITP] lauds the efforts made by Mr. Ameya Abhyankar
IAS, who is currently the Director of IT among other portfolios; in setting
the ball rolling towards building the prospects of the IT industry in the
state. GITP feels that what he has achieved after assuming his office in
the IT department is truly remarkable. Given the track record of the
Department of IT prior to him assuming office, it was very much in need of
such a dynamic leadership. Laying the roadmap for the Tuem ESDM park and
Chimbel IT park, efforts made for local interaction with the various
stakeholders, Partnerships/MoU with Google and Amazon, Development of
Incubation facilities in the State, exploring options like Google Loon to
counter internet bandwidth shortfall, spearheading Governments Outreach
program to the various IT majors are some of the milestones that Mr.
Abhyankar has achieved with his team.

Mr. Abhyankar has taken significant proactive steps that have not been
witnessed in the past. He is highly approachable, receptive to suggestions
and a go-getter in his approach. The IT community and the State of Goa at
large need more leaders like Mr. Abhyankar in the Administration.

GITP believes that there still a long way to go and that the vigour and
enthusiasm that Mr Abhyankar brings with him is needed to be sustained and
encouraged at all levels of governance, more particularly IT industry
development. Over the years, the lack of suitable IT infrastructure in the
state has driven away a lot of Goan youth to the neighbouring cities, and
thus causing the dilution of the Goan Identity.

GITP insists that Mr. Abhyankar be suitably recognized by the Government
for his efforts and ensure he is allowed to serve the State for another
term with ever increasing zeal and passion.

*SUSSEGADO COFFEE INDIA (GOA) LAUNCHES DEVI WENDELL RODRICKS "CATWALK"
GOURMET COFFEE*

DEVI Catawalk by Wendell Rodricks is a premium, shade grown Arabica coffee
from the hills of Coorg. Using traditional European drum roasters, the
coffee goes through a slow roasting process, this enables the coffee to
gradually open and reveal all the aromas and flavours. The roast level is
taken to medium, at this point this coffee offers the richest cup. After
grinding the roasted coffee beans to a medium fine size, the coffee is
seasoned with a pinch of finely ground cinnamon, together with the finest
Madagascar Vanilla. These spices elevate the character of DEVI Catwalk,
lending it a smooth and soothing finish.

DEVI Catwalk is a completely natural product, without preservatives or
artificial flavourings. Designer Wendell Rodricks says “I have just had my
first sip of DEVI Catwalk coffee and delighted that DEVI has created a
designer coffee rich in aromatic flavour and texture as smooth as silk with
the body of velvet on the palate. When I first met Laszlo, I knew we would
be a brand fit. Such a charming man with a love for the refined things in
life. (Besides curating the finest selection of Indian coffees, the
Hungarian native harvest truffles in Europe). Later when I met his wife
Devika ( hence the brand name DEVI), I was floored by her natural Bengali
beauty, poise and grace. The result of our meeting is this designer gourmet
coffee. The flavour is better than a regular expresso with the refined
subtle under taste of cinnamon and Madagascar vanilla. When I designed the
label for this stylish coffee I immersed myself in a coffee that suits
modern tastes with a label that jumps out of the shelf like couture does. I
wanted colour, youth, bling. The label design creates a cultural identity
of its own. Indian yet international, just like the DEVI Wendell Rodricks
Catwalk gourmet coffee.”

The product is expected to be on the shelves across the country by the
first week of December, 2016. Godrej Natures Basket, Foodhall, Trent
Westside, Hyper City, are few of the chain retailers where customers will
find DEVI Catwalk, and by January 2017 many of the individual gourmet shops
across India will stock the product

DEVI Wendell Rodricks Catwalk Coffee will also be available online on
amazon.in, flipkart.com, snapdeal.com, giftease.com, tastebells.com and
many other gift and gourmet online portals.

*GITP DEMANDS LOW-COST REVIVAL OF DEAD GOAN SCHOOL COMPUTER LABS, PLANS TO
APPROACH PMO TO FORCE RIGHT DECISIONS*
In a meeting on 21-Sep-2016 with the Goa Chief Minister, Laxmikant
Parsekar, and his team comprising of heads from the Education and IT
departments, Goa IT Professionals (GITP) presented once again their
recommendations regarding revival of school-level Computer education
(curriculum as well as infrastructure) which has been in dilapidated
condition throughout the tenure of this government. GITP had earlier on
27-Jan-2016 met the Chief Minister and his team including Goa InfoTech
Corporation leaders on this same matter and have been following up
eversince for time-bound and judicious utilization of the Rs.25 crores
provisioned by the government for this purpose in the current financial
year.

With low cost, high durability and globally proven hardware options like
Raspberry Pi available today coupled with comprehensive Free Open-Source
Software (FOSS) covering all educational needs upto class 12th and beyond,
the nearly-dead school computer labs across Goa could be fully revived
within Rs. 2 crores while the rest could be utilized to provide schools
with solar-powered computer labs, smart-classrooms, funding for Tech Clubs,
inter-school Tech competitions, Tech camps during vacations, etc.

GITP expressed its disappointment to the Chief Minister about the recently
released Goa InfoTech Corp tender for procurement of 4468 conventional,
delicate, expensive and virus-prone computers for schools with Microsoft
Windows and Office software despite GITP’s demonstration of low cost and
efficient alternatives in 3 Goan schools since last academic year, findings
of which are with all relevant government departments for the past 8 months.

The bold initiative of Goa Board to revamp Computer education for classes
9-12 was explained to the Chief Minister along with the need for it to be
extended to lower classes to ensure early technology introduction as well
as seamless learning and teaching experience for the students and teachers
respectively. The revised curriculum is expected to come into effect from
the next academic year and is proposed by GITP to be carried out as a Goa
government and Goan IT community collaboration.

Chief Minister was impressed with the palm-sized Raspberry Pi device that
GITP team demonstrated in this meeting as well as its recommendations
regarding FOSS and full-fledged Computer education curriculum revision and
gave his nod for his teams to consider these and begin work on the same.
With elections on the Goan horizon, GITP expects the government to get
things done within the next couple months. It is also planning to approach
the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to ensure that the right things done for
effective Computer education in Goa without wastage of precious public
funds on the typical hardware and software scandals witnessed in Goa.

*WENDELL RODRICKS TRAPEZOID COLLECTION FOR LAKME FASHION WEEK,
WINTER/FESTIVE 2016.*

Opening show at 6Degrees Stage One at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive
2016, Schulen Fernandes for Wendell Rodricks presented the Trapezoid
collection based on the Trapezoid shape that has been in use since ancient
times. The Incas and Egyptians used it for archways, doors and windows.
Wider at the base with a parallel narrow top with two lateral incline sides
reaching the summit. Indian temples also used this geometric form but in a
profusely decorative form for the famed gopurams; endowed with Gods and
animals. Indians also used the trapezoid for geometry, astronomy,
mathematics and algebra calculations.

Schulen Fernandes for Wendell Rodricks, explored the trapezoid in a fashion
collection that celebrates this ancient form rarely applied to fashion.
Using the form as is and in innovative isosceles and parallelogram styles,
garments take shape based on the trapezoid's various possibilities in
silhouette and style details.

The layered looks use sheer X-Ray effects to advantage, blending an ultra
feminine palette of pastels. Trapezoid shapes morph onto pin tucks, sewn
dotted lines and pattern pieces that create a unique newness on the Indian
female form. This shape is perfect for all Indian sizes who tend to have a
torso smaller than the hip. In a vast fabric array that uses linen, cotton,
light crepes, georgette, paper silk, jacquard and damask, Trapezoid uses
twelve weaves. It is the custom made fabrics at the core of the collection
that are most exciting. Natural Bemberg weave which is natural viscose that
feels like silk, striped Chanderi striped silk cotton, Kerala custom weave
cottons, natural dyed Bengal cotton weaves, Malkha cotton and Eco fabric
dyed with flowers from the Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai.

The Trapezoid collection by Schulen Fernandes for Wendell Rodricks also
addressed lack of a uniform sizing standard in India. It pushed the
envelope to make clothes that are at times unisize, unisex and unique for
all India women. The collect is age neutral, proving that pastels are not
for a blushing teen or regal dowager. Walking the ramp were professionals
and students from various fields. Salome ROY Kapoor, ex model, mother of
actor Aditya Roy Kapoor and mother in law of Vidya Balan. Sharmilla Khanna,
ex model and choreographer. Suzanne Sablok Pillai, ex model, Miss India and
now shawl designer. Yvette Braganza, company assistant, theatre and choral
singer. Cher D'Cruz, eighteen year old student and leukemia survivor. Khloe
Lobo, 20 year old Goan student at St Xavier's Mapusa. Justine Rae
Mellocrasto, Mumbai based JEWELLERY designer and hair stylist.

The collection received immense applause for the regular ladies that walked
the ramp and effusive praise from the audience that comprised the big names
in fashion. The fifteen minute presentation was the perfect opening of
6Degrees Stage one at Lakme Fashion Week for many reasons. A collection
meant for all women. The release of India's first standard sizing chart for
Indian women by Wendell Rodricks. At the show Wendell Rodricks handed over
his label to Schulen Fernandes who will design the label from now on.
Rodricks will continue to work and help in the studio but focus on the Moda
Goa Musuem, other design projects and steer the label to greater heights
with Schulen Fernandes.

[Goanet] PRESS NOTE (30-Jun-2016): Calling Goan schools to nominate under Project GEIT this academic year

2016-06-30 Thread Goa IT Professionals - GITP
*BCC TO GOAN PRESS AND MEDIA: 170+ recipients*

Dear Members of the Media,

Project GEIT (Goans Empowered with Information Technology), the flagship
initiative of Goa IT Professionals (GITP), is the single most revolutionary
people-driven change happening in the Goan school education system
beginning last academic year.

This academic year Project GEIT is all set to reach out to as many Goan
village schools as possible with a nomination-cum-compliance based model.
We are sharing herewith details of the same. Kindly give the initiative
wide publicity through your esteemed print/electronic media and oblige.

With regards,

Team Project GEIT

*PRESS NOTE (30-Jun-2016): Calling Goan schools to nominate under Project
GEIT this academic year*

Project GEIT (Goans Empowered with Information Technology), the flagship
initiative of Goa IT Professionals (GITP), is the single most revolutionary
people-driven change happening in the Goan school education system. It is a
voluntary community initiative planned, funded and organized by Goan
professionals and well-wishers by devoting their personal time, resources
and network for the sheer love of Goans in Goa. It is a strictly apolitical
people’s movement…of Goans, by Goans and for Goans to prosper in Goa
through technology!

Having successfully piloted our unique approach in 3 Goan village schools
(i.e. Gokuldem, Neura and Chorao) last year, Project GEIT is now open to
all schools of Goa on a nomination-cum-compliance basis. Project GEIT and
its activities are suitable and relevant for, and hence limited to,
students of Classes 4-9. Preference will be given to village schools over
city schools given their disadvantageous scenario with respect to
Technological access.

*Every school as part of Project GEIT will benefit as follows:*

· A huge advantage to your students towards the latest global
technological advancements and their relevance in various aspects of human
life including the creative space through live demonstrations and
interactive sessions with experts from Goa and beyond.

· Free computer hardware donated by individuals and companies
through Project GEIT will be LEASED to the needy schools on returnable
basis limited to their Project GEIT tenure.

· Project GEIT will enable and facilitate benefits to its partner
schools from relevant government, corporate as well as private schemes and
initiatives.

· No costs to the participating schools for Project GEIT activities.

· Participating schools’ Computer Teachers will be trained for free
by Project GEIT on the necessary technologies.

*Project GEIT expects the following minimal commitments from each
participating school to initiate and maintain their partnership on a
bi-monthly basis:*

· The school MUST have a proactive and productive Computer Teacher
OR at least another staff member passionate about technology to
successfully lead the Project GEIT activities at the school. Otherwise they
must NOT apply for Project GEIT as it would waste precious time and
resources of our volunteers.

· Include computer programming using SCRATCH, a child friendly
computer programming platform from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT-USA), in your Computer curriculum over and above the regular
curriculum with guidance from Project GEIT. We are also working on getting
it formally included into the Goa state board curriculum.

· Ensure timely completion of the monthly SCRATCH assignments
published by Project GEIT and maintain a formal record of each student’s
progress on the same.

·Ensure the safety, security and appropriate usage of Project GEIT
leased hardware and make good any damages to or loss of such hardware to
Project GEIT within maximum 30 days.

·Submit overall progress and compliance report in the prescribed
electronic format towards bi-monthly audit which would determine the
school’s continuity under Project GEIT.

·Consent for the performance of the school to be judged on
pre-defined Project GEIT parameters per each half-year term and, the scores
and ranking of all Project GEIT schools to be publicly published. This is
to ensure productive outcomes, accountability, transparency and
competitiveness among the participating schools.

[Goanet] PRESS NOTE (23-Jun-2016): GITP demands computer programming inclusion in Goan school curriculum

2016-06-23 Thread Goa IT Professionals - GITP
*BCC TO GOAN PRESS AND MEDIA: 170+ recipients*

Project GEIT (Goans Empowered with Information Technology), the flagship
initiative of Goa IT Professionals (GITP), is the single most revolutionary
people-driven change happening in the Goan school education system
beginning last academic year.

Project GEIT recently concluded its pilot year on a high note with a
successful 10-day Information Technology-centric Summer Camp 2016 during
May 2-13 at the Central Library (Patto, Panaji) attended by 84 school kids
from 28 locations across Goa and where 25 industry experts and leaders,
academicians, creative masters and tech-wizards presented and demonstrated
for free the use of Computers in a wide variety of applications relevant to
human life today like internet safety for children, movie-making,
animation, robotics, music, telecommunications, ship design, astronomy,
blogging, enablement for people with disabilities, mobile app design and
development (using App Inventor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
USA), networks, databases, agriculture, entrepreneurship, Indian language
computing, 3D printing, SCRATCH (i.e. a child-friendly computer programming
platform from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA), Hour of Code and
more. The children were left spell-bound and we have some great feedback
from them as well as their parents regarding this camp. The camp concluded
with a SCRATCH programming contest designed by a tech-wizard Class 8
student from Panaji who was also one of the presenters-cum-teachers at this
camp! All this was done for free with many parents voluntarily contributing
to cover all expenses of this camp while others donated a total of
Rs.26,515/- to 2 Goan charities through Project GEIT. Akin to our similar
Diwali2015 camp this proves again and beyond any doubt that Goans and their
well-wishers, guided in the right direction, are capable of revolutionising
our school education system all by themselves. We would much appreciate if
your publications can showcase this work in your weekend editions to create
wider awareness among Goans. We could provide you full details, photos and
quotes from people (i.e. students, parents, experts) on our various
activities till date.

*Project GEIT is now all set to reach out to as many Goan village schools
as possible this new academic year with a nomination-cum-compliance based
model. And demands inclusion of the child-friendly, open-source SCRATCH
into the Goa state board syllabus for school-level Computer Education from
this academic year itself. Our core team had met the Chief Minister in this
regard earlier and will pursue this matter again for its implementation.*

“A key observation from our work so far is that our Goan children have a
great hunger to learn the productive and creative use of IT and with the
right guidance and hands-on exposure they could beat even children from
advanced countries like USA, Japan etc. And this could revolutionize the
future of Goans in Goa,” said Sangeeta Naik, Co-Leader of Project GEIT and
Executive Member of GITP.

“Instead of teaching just clerical stuff like Microsoft Office to our
children and they whiling away so much of their time on computer games Goan
kids need to be formally introduced to computer programming in order to
reveal to them the true power of controlling a machine or device. For the
sake of our future Goan generations prospering right here in Goa, we demand
that the Goa government takes the bold step of introducing SCRATCH
programming in the school syllabus immediately. Project GEIT offers to
conduct a 2 day training program on SCRATCH for all Goan school Computer
teachers…for FREE!,” said Vincent Toscano, Co-Leader of Project GEIT and
Vice President of GITP.

Given below for your reference are excerpts from our minutes of meeting with*
GOA CHIEF MINISTER, LAXMIKANT PARSEKAR*, on 27-Jan-2016 regarding Project
GEIT on which you will hear regular updates from us in the months ahead as
we crank up our enablement-cum-pressure on the government to produce
results:

[START] Regarding our ProjectGEIT (Goans Empowered with IT) initiative
being piloted in 3 Goan village schools this academic year:

o We shared with you our key objectives of using IT to develop scientific
thinking among children, making general subjects interesting through use of
existing free online resources, and, bringing the latest technological
exposure to our village children.

o GEIT is a completely society driven initiative – by the people, for the
people – with volunteers giving their time and resources to make it happen.
We hope to take it to all Goa level in the next academic year.

o We brought to your attention the sorry plight of Computer Labs in Goan
schools with barely 1-2 working PCs out of the original government provided
10 PCs which have run out of warranty with no repair service available.
Also most of these PCs have pirated Windows and Microsoft Office licences

River, to make it easy for the tourists who will land at the future MOPA
Airport to descend on this exclusive entertainment enclave cut out into the
Chapora River. The Party is with the people of Chapora and the surrounding
areas who are agitating against such dredging and placement of floating
casinos at the mouth of the Chapora River. This Party's one point programme
on floating casinos is that these shall be shifted to off-shore locations
and Goa's rivers shall be freed from the curse of being polluted with
sewage generated by these floating citadels, as also hinder the free
movement of the normal river traffic, especially when this Party intends to
put up a qualified river transportation system in place to decongest the
road traffic on Goan roads.

With regards to the ongoing debate on the Offices of Profits enjoyed by
Elected Representatives, this Party has deliberated on this issue
threadbare during its formation some 15 years ago when it emphatically
decided that no elected representative must hold any office of profit. The
result of these deliberations was the inclusion of Article 38 in the
Constitution of the Party which Article features in the Articles of the
Constitution which cannot be amended throughout to lifespan of the Party.
The Article 38 reads as follows:

Article 38: *APPOINTMENTS OF CHAIRPERSONS & DIRECTORS OF GOVT. CORPORATIONS
& INSTITUTIONS.*
*The members of the Party who are elected to the Legislative Assembly as
MLAs and who are not included in the Cabinet shall be in-elligle to be
appointed as Chairpersons and/or Directors of Government Corporations and
Institutions.*

If this very Article in the Constitution of this Party is not the
'futuristic planning and foresight', then we do not know what futuristic
planning is all about. Today, the run is on the tax-payer's money. It must
be squandered on the maintenance of Government's line toting yesmen and
yeswomen, to re-habilitate them in more ways than one, rather than seeing
to it that the tax-payer's get the benefit of their hard-earned money which
goes into paying their taxes. In the future, tax-payers shall do well to
question the governments of the day on how their hard-earned money is used
and for what purpose. Afterall, the RTI Act is a powerful tool at the
disposal of irked tax-payers.

PRESS NOTE:

The headline news in your esteemed daily captioned "ORDINANCE TO LEGALISE
AUTHORIZED STRUCTURES" makes an interesting reading. In the State of Goa
Ordinances have become 'dime a dozen' where any thing and every thing that
the governments want to bull doze through, and which action would draw a
heavy flak from the public at large if same was sought to be done through
proper channels, i.e. through the Legislative Assembly. This draconian
piece of legislation is resorted to, which in fact is a window kept for
bringing in legislation/s under extreme trying times when the
democratically elected governments of the day have no time to waste in the
deliberations to pass a Bill in the legislative assembly when an acute
emergency has truck or is likely to strike. Ex. earthquakes, Tsunamis
etc.where lives of hundreds and thousands of citizens are likely to be in
danger with massive destruction and deaths.

The biggest joke is that this party [BJP] says that it is fulfilling its
election promise to regularize illegal structures. When political parties
make such promises in their election manifestos, the citizens of the state
or the country must boot these parties out in the first place, because,
they are playing with the very law and order situation that they are
required to maintain. These type of promises are an open invitation
to anarchy resulting in increased corruption. And, on top of it they want
to hammer this legislation through an 'ordinance'.

As one of the points figuring in the 'RULES OF THE ROAD' of this Party, it
is stated that the Panchayat Raj Act, 1974, and the Municipalities Act of
the state shall be amended to hold Sarpanches and Chairpersons,
respectively, responsible and accountable to any and all illegalities,
direliction of duties, etc., with penalties specified which may lead to
even jail terms. It is also mentioned that special flying squads shall be
put in place to check illegal constructions, hill cutting, mud filling or
agricultural fields etc. taking place with enough powers to proceed with
the demolition if documentation is not in proper order and power to arrest
the culprits right away. This will make sure that the 10 per cent or so of
the population who would indulge in illegalities will be discouraged at
source and the rest of 90 per cent population will relax knowing fully well
that the law and order in the state is safe and sound. One hundred per
cent corruption takes place at the levels of the Panchayats and
Municipalities and the existing Laws protect these head honchos rather
than taking them to task.

The Goa Su-Raj Party is totally and completely against such
ORDINANCE, viewing it as vote-bank politics which will demoralize the
psyche of the law abiding citizenry of this state. This Party shall
challenge this ORDINANCE through a Writ Petition in the High Court and
shall not be averse to even take this matter to the Supreme Court if
necessary.

[Goanet] Press Note : FREE FLOATING REGIONAL PLAN : THE LATEST TOOL OF CORRUPTION

2016-04-20 Thread GBA office
*Goa Bachao Abhiyan*

C/o 77, Defence Colony, Alto Porvorim-Goa

goabachaoabhi...@gmail.com

*20th April 2016*

Our Government continues to prepare a new Regional Plan with disregard for
scientific planning through criteria, even as drought ridden Maharashtra
serves as a glaring example of poor land use policies and corrupt self
serving interests.

With no scientific data or criteria for inputs, the TCP minister keeps
making statements as per the daily whim. The RP2021 already has an
excessive increase of settlement of upto 30% over the old RP2001. With
Goa's falling birthrate it is a mockery to arbitrarily keep increasing
 settlement
cover for vested interests. This 'development' is clearly not for Goans.

*UNCONSTITUTIONAL IPB PROJECTS SHOULD NOT BE PLACED WITHOUT ENVIRONMENT
AUDIT*

All manner of projects passed by the unconstitutional Investment Promotion
Board Act are being included in the 'new plan' despite peoples protests
against this. Run by ministers and industrialists for ministers and
industrialists, this has overridden the Acts own criteria, including
environmentally damaging 'Red category' industries in Sanguem to further
pollute our rivers, and violating CRZ rules in numerous cases.

*SLC MEMBERS REPRESENT GLARING CONFLICT OF INTEREST*

The composition of the State Level Steering Committee is purely one-sided
highlighting conflict of interest, comprising mainly of Government
officials and the odd architect. The committee has little credibility if
due representation is not given to stakeholders with skill and integrity.
Planning is not only about construction. During the making of the last
plan, changes were not only sought by ministers, small incentives to the
last drafts person to touch the plan sometimes included a few hundred sqm
here and there which was difficult to catch unless strict procedures for
sign off was followed. With such an understaffed and skewed committee, we
have little hope of anything called planning.

*PIMPING OF GOA - A PRE ELECTION OCCUPATION*

Worse still, is Goa's most public secret, with brokers allegedly citing a
price of Rs. 3,500/- per sqm of land use change. Despite the fraudulent
RP2011 allegedly peddled at Rs. 200/- per sqm 11 years ago, in places as
far off as Dubai, it is shocking that the present government still assumes
this kind of bartering can be forever be tolerated by the public as
planning.

All too many land owners have been approached peddling such offers and we
call on our TCP minister to explain this behavior to the public, including
what measures exactly, will be taken to prevent selling the plan piecemeal.

We call on all the people to rise against this ugliest form of corruption,
as the loss of green cover, water and air quality will be irreversible.

The GBA has sought an appointment with the TCP minister, and calls on this
government to desist from using the Regional Plan as a tool for corruption,
and come clean on its intentions immediately.

The Goa Su-Raj Party-GSRP is deeply concerned about the grievious assault
on Cavrem Panch Member Mr. Ravindra Velip in Sada sub jail, Vasco, where
he was detained with others for protesting against the transportation of
e-auctioned Fomento ore.

The police violence against the citizens of Goa afftected by the mining is
re-visiting us when a 80 year old Dora D'Souza was jailed at Aguada for
protesting against illegal mining and ore transportation some years ago.

The probe over this grievous assault on Ravindra Velip must be handed over
to a High Court retired judge for a thorough investigation and the culprit
jail attendant/s brought to book.

Goans shall not tolerated lawlessness at the hands of the government
authorities. Their raison d'etre is to protect the citizenry of Goa who
pays their taxes and have every right to voice their displeasure about the
non-functioning of the government machinery.

This Party is happy to note that OPA [Orixt Porjecho Awaz] of Naqueri
Betul's which is agitating against the DefExpo has joined the Cavrem locals
in their protest against illegal tranportation of mining ore.

[Goanet] Press Note : RP21 - No guidelines, guise to convert more land

2015-12-16 Thread GBA office
*Goa Bachao Abhiyan*

C/o 77, Defence Colony, Alto Porvorim-Goa

goabachaoabhi...@gmail.com

*16**th** Dec 2015*

Goa Bachao Abhiyan condemns the move to open the Regional Plan for *extra
suggestions* during Goa's peak festive season, that too without any public
guidelines or processing strategy. The three year public exercise of making
the Regional Plan 2021 has already attracted 8500 suggestions, most of
which were for change of personal land use to settlement.

*Without guidelines nor a committee of experts, on what basis will the TCP
favor one comment over another? It is clear that all 8500 suggestions plus
more cannot all be favored without damage to environment and incredibly,
trampling on our constitutional rights of all being equal.*

The Regional Plan is in public interest and needs a balanced committee of
experts in different fields to oversee a scientific approach to map water
run-off, tree cover and mangroves even more urgently today than ever.
Partisan attitudes and political interference in planning together with
climate change have already brought us disasters, the latest being Chennai.

The process of drafting of the Regional Plan includes people's aspirations,
processed through local meetings such as Gram Sabhas as per the 73rd
amendment to the Constitution. *The Regional Plan in its mandate is not for
private interests, rather a scientific overlaying of all the factors that
can sustain Goa and her population for the future. *The GBA understands
this move to open the plan now will include projects passed on eco-zones
under the Investment Promotion Board.

This act by our government shows disregard for peoples participation and is
likely to favor investors who bought into the fraudulent RP2011, as well as
new entrants wanting personal attention at any cost. The handful of people
who have used their authority and quietly colluded with the worst
illegalities will now process the suggestions on whims and fancies. The GBA
urges all to keep watch on their neighborhoods and villages, as it becomes
clear that people of Goa will not be part of the emerging plan.

*GBA demands 4 points to be held sacrosanct before any move to change the
Regional Plan -*

*1 - A committee representing a cross section of stakeholders, respected
professionals and trusted civil society members is constituted, as was the
case with the last Government.*

*2 - Guidelines for suggestions and comments be made public, clearly
informing against individual requests for change in land use, rather only
for rectification of errors and public interest.*

*3 - Protection of Eco zones and their areas should not be compromised
unless for the sake of accuracy and ground truth. Built-up allowance of FAR
per village should not be changed.*

*4 - Villages with issues of fraud and duplicate plans must be handled
together with the parties involved in drawing up the Plan, ie. the
Panchayat and the Village Level Committee.*

The TCP had started a process of meetings with the aggrieved parties to
rectify genuine errors, fraud and duplication of Village Maps, but this
process was cut short due to elections.

*The GBA has made an appeal through video urging people to write to the TCP
office for protection of Eco Zones in the RP21 as a matter of public
interest. We simply cannot wait by the sidelines anymore to be victims of
another disaster due to incompetent planning, as it happened in Chennai.*

The Party shares the grief of his family members, near and dear ones, and

In Fr. Bismarque Dias, Goa has lost the most vocal, enterprising, honest,

*Details:*

Goa IT Professionals (GITP) group’s initiative, titled “Goans Empowered
with IT” (GEIT), to promote IT Education in Goan schools for better
employment in collaboration with the wider Goan IT and academic community
inducted the third and final rural school, Dayanand Bandodkar High School
(Gokuldem, Paddi, Quepem) into the program on 12th September.

The project actively supported by the StartupGoa, GITIC and other
well-wishers aims to expose every child in Goan schools, especially in the
villages, to the career opportunities galore in Computers and related
technologies positively affecting all spheres of human life today. Through
a series of sessions and courses on Computer Programming, App Development,
Robotics, Animation etc. the students will be introduced to this
fascinating world in fun and exciting ways to spark their interest for
further exploration through self-learning. Additionally, this initiative
also aims to help school teachers use IT to make regular subjects more
interesting, engaging and experiential to the students. In the first phase
this year GITP is working with 3 schools in Goa:

1. St. Bartholomew’s High School (Chorao, Tiswadi)

2. Azmane High School (Neura, Mandur, Tiswadi)

3. Dayanand Bandodkar High School (Gokulde, Padi, Quepem)

In subsequent phases of this initiative, GITP aims to reach out to these
charged school children, fuel their creativity and turn it into passion to
bring innovation and employment generation to the village level in Goa.

At the Gokulde school, situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats, many
students still walk 1-2 hours daily to reach their school and yet know
quite a lot about computers and IT in general. Their evident appetite to
grasp and learn new technologies was heartening to our GEIT team and holds
a clear promise to a people-driven economic upliftment of our Goan villages
while also preserving and documenting their local heritage and ancestral
knowledge for posterity.

Our GEIT Introductory session at this school began with a warm welcome by
the Headmaster, Mr. Velip followed by the President of their School Alumni
association, Mr. Pradeep Gaonkar, who is also part of our GEIT team, our
anchor for this school and is one of the most educated villagers from Padi
despite many hardships. From our team, Vincent ignited the minds of the 200
odd kids by talking to them about how IT can transform their lives. Then
Jonathan of Espressotive, supported by Sudhir, took the students on an
exciting ride with their presentation on IT, interesting videos and Google
Cardboard Virtual Reality 3D headset demos for 10 students and 2 teachers.
Subsequently Jervis spoke to the students about the way IT can help them
solve local problems around them.

Finally Nihal, Seeya and Pooja from GEC explained the students in simple
language how computers work similar to the human body and received a very
good response. We are grateful to their GEC Lecturer, Mr. Teslin Jacob, for
encouraging them to support Project GEIT. Even by themselves they now feel
that if they had been through an initiative like Project GEIT in their
school days then it would have made a big difference to their lives today.
And hence they want to give these village school kids what they missed.
Such conviction coming from today’s Goan youth fuels us all at Project GEIT.

Post this school student session, our team met with the school management
and staff. The Headmaster was very enthusiastic about the program and so
were the teachers. They were happy that

School (Chorao, Tiswadi), Dayanand Bandodkar School (Gokuldem, Paddi,
Quepem), and, Azmane High School (Neura-Mandur, Tiswadi).

The introductory session at the Azmane school was attended by around 200
students from standards 5th to 10th. The school Headmaster , Mr. S.P. Naik,
welcomed the GITP team at the outset and reassured them that all necessary
help will be extended to make the program a success. Gajanan Nagarsekar
 of Kallows Engineering India
Pvt. Ltd - Ponda was the presenter for the event. He kept the kids
engrossed while sharing his experiences with them. Mr. Nagarsekar left his
job with GE in US to come down and set up an IT firm in Ponda, Goa. GITP
feels that people like him are true brand ambassadors for this project
which aims at letting the Goan youth comprehend that they need not move out
of Goa to make a fortune and realize their full potentials. Vincent Paul
Toscano showed an
interesting video put together by him on significance of IT, computer
programming, robotics etc. in real life and the way the concepts are taken
to children in other countries. Prof. Ramrao Wagh
of Goa University is the contact
point at the school. His passion about the project was reflected in the way
the school authorities and teachers reacted to this flagship session.

In subsequent phases of this initiative, GITP aims to reach out to these
charged minds, fuel their creativity and turn it into passion to bring
innovation and employment generation to the village level in Goa.

Post this session the GITP team met with the management and staff of the
school. The interaction with the teachers was fruitful. They were all
looking forward to being a part of the project. The issue of slow leaner’s
and the need to do something about them on priority preferably using IT was
raised by one of the teachers.

Concerns were also raised by the school staff about the state of IT
infrastructure at the school with reference to GBBN connectivity which
needs urgent attention of the Department of Education without which this
GITP initiative would be in jeopardy. GITP Core Team has brought these
matters to the attention of the Goa government which is now considering a
couple funding schemes to address such matters and support this noble
initiative by GITP.

Presently underway at the Azmane school and Chorao School is a detailed
audit of its Basic, Science and IT infrastructure besides an Enrolment form
to be filled by parents to consent their wards to participate in Project
GEIT. Age-appropriate Aptitude Testing would follow in coming weeks to
identify the students to be specially coached in Computers and Robotics
under Project GEIT starting immediately after the Ganesh Chathurti festival.

Another rural school Dayanand Bandodkar High School, Gokulde , Paddi, Quepem
will be inducted in the program on 12th September 2015. Jonathan Peréira
of Espressotive is the key
presenter at the Quepem School. GEC students Nihal Prabhugaonkar and two of
his team mates Seeya and Pooja will also take one session. This school will
also follow similar pattern of activities as explained above.

GITP thanks the Goan press and media community in advance for spreading

[Goanet] Press Note for urgent publication

2015-07-17 Thread Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goem
PRESS NOTE

The Konkani Bhasha Mandal and other organisations in Goa have strongly objected
to the government decision of relaxing the clause of compulsory knowledge of
Konkani in certain Government jobs. In a press statement issued here today,
the KBM has charged the government of giving backdoor entry to outsiders by
giving relaxation in the clause.

It may be noted that for super-specialty jobs, the clause was as it is relaxed
and there was no need to further relax it. The KBM has expressed its fear that
any government jobs could be termed as 'Super specialty' in view of the failure
of the government to define 'Super specialty'.

Citing the recent case of the Goa University wherein a non konkani speaking
person was accommodated for one of the posts where several konkani speaking
candidates were available, the KBM and other organisations have expressed its
fear that this trend may be continued in other government organisations.

These organisations have urged the government to cancel the relaxation granted
by a cabinet decision and take a decision on case to case basis while filling
the vacancies. Even after filling such vacancies with a non konkani speaking
candidate, such a candidate should be compelled to undergo training in konkani
language during the probation period and the services may be regularized only
after such training is certified by Official language department says the press
note.

Charging the government of cheating the Goan electorate first on the medium of
instruction issue and now on the relaxation granted in jobs, these
organisations have warned that the people of Goa will give this government a
fitting reply in the ensuing elections if it fails to retract on its position.

The Press note has been jointly released by Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Asmitay
Prathisthan, Goa Rakhan Manch, Bardez Konkani Asmitay Kendr, Aami Pednekar,
Cancon Konkani Kala Kendra, Antruj Ghudyo, Bandora, Curchorem Kala Sahitya
Kendra and Divchal Konkani Seva Kendra.

th May 2015 at 4.00 p.m., at Conference Hall, Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1, 2
nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panaji Goa.

*BONAVENTURE D’PIETRO*

Bonaventure Peter Fernandes, popularly known as Bonaventure D’Pietro is a
well known figure in the field of Konkani and Goan culture. He was born on
14th July 1943 in the village of Anjuna in Bardez. While pursuing his
primary education in Portuguese, he learnt to play violin and solfeggio
from a parochial music school.

At the age of 14, young Bonaventure, saw a *tiatr* for the first time in
his village Anjuna. This made him restless and there and then he made up
his mind to write his own *tiatr* thus aspiring to become a *tiatrist*. He
made several efforts to write a *tiatr* to his satisfaction and finally he
penned a *tiatr*, entitled *‘Birthday’* which was staged at Margao. In the
same year, 1961 he wrote his second *tiatr*, *‘Boro Gonvlli’* (Later
renamed as *‘Devachea Rajeant Tukai Apounnem Asa’*). After the liberation
of Goa, in 1962 he left for Mumbai to take up a job in a printing press,
where he came in contact with various writers and publishers.

Right from his childhood, D’Pietro was a keen observer of any happenings
that took place in the village or in his surroundings. He had the ability
to analyze the incidents and the capability to narrate them in a befitting
manner. It was this attitude which compelled his tender mind to write his
first novelette *‘Soitanacho Ghutt’* (The Mystery of Satan) at a very young
age of just 15 in 1958. Since then, he went on writing short stories and
novelettes but finally found his niche in writing novels. He has 14
publications to his credit which includes novels on various issues related
to our society viz, ‘*Kallea Vistidachi Choli’*, *‘Clara’*, *‘Mhojea
Paicho Fondd’*, *‘From Goa With Love’*, *‘Ek Bhett Mungllurachea Xharak’*,
*‘Jimmy’*, *‘Tichea Mornna Uprant’* and *‘Janya Celli’.*

His other literary work consists of short stories and novelettes namely: *‘13
Numbrachi Kottri’*, *‘Mog vo Patok’* and *‘Mhaka Jiyonk Zai’*. His books in
other category include *‘Gupi’* for children, *‘Nazaretkar’* on his
experiences and *‘Songit Doulot Goykaranchi’*, a research work on Goan
music. In this book he highlighted the rich heritage of Goan music for
posterity. His another book *‘Sankholl’* has been bestowed with Dalgado
Akademi Award this year.

This multifaceted artiste’s contribution to the field of *tiatr* is
noteworthy. On his return to Goa after spending 15 long years in Mumbai,
Bonaventure restarted writing *tiatrs*. He wrote and staged several *tiatrs*
then. His *tiatrs* like *‘Dhunvor’*, ‘*Chitrakar’*, *‘Patang’, ‘Rogtacho
Thembo’, ‘Girannacho Put’, ‘Sorgar Thavn Apounnem’, ‘Vatt Chuklelim
Suknnim’, ‘Faxi’ *(not released),* ‘Boroinnar-Director’, ‘Mhozo Podon To!’,
‘Amche Zomnintli Girestkai’, ‘Adeus Mhoje Maim’ *are well appreciated by
the audience. Besides this, he composed hundreds of *kantaram *and* mandos*.
He has also written many *Songit-khells* for All India Radio. *‘Tum Khoim
Tori Chuktai’* and *‘To Amger Ietolo’* are a few to name and participated
in its popular programmes, *Bolkanvar Gozali* and *Sahitya Jhelo* for many
years.

Bonaventure D’Pietro is not only a creative writer but also an excellent
musician who plays numerous wind instruments. When he was in Bombay, he had
formed bands *‘Bonaventures’* and *‘Bob Brown Combo’* (B.B.C.). After
returning back to Goa, he also formed a band named *‘Pietros’* which
comprises of his two sons. Occasionally he has also provided music to some
*tiatrs*.

He is also a regular contributor to numerous dailies, weeklies, monthlies
in Konkani in Roman script. He has also served as Assistant Editor of
various newspapers and magazines in Konkani Roman script.

He has several literary awards to his credit, the noteworthy among them
being of Kala Academy Goa, Konknni Bhasha Mandal, Thomas Stephen Konknni
Kendr and Lifetime Contribution to Literature Award by Dalgado Academy. He
was also felicitated by Kuwait Konknni Heritage and is the recipient of
prestigious State Cultural Award in the field of literature in the year
2008.

[Goanet] Press Note from the Catholic Association of Goa

2015-04-09 Thread Edwin/Diana Pinto
__
PRESS RELEASE
THE CATHOLIC ASSOCIATION’S RESPONSE TO DHAVALIKAR’S VENOM!

The Catholic Association of Goa condemns the statements made by the Dhavalikars
and reported in the Times of India dated 6 7 April, 2015.
To say the least, Lata Dhavalikar has joined the bandwagon of the likes of
Mohan Bhagwat Giriraj Singh ---, who have now found a platform and the licence
to publicly voice their rabid and fanatic views. Has she done her homework ? If
we go by what she says, all women in the west should be victims of rape. How
unfair to Indian men to suggest that they get titillated by tight fitting,
scantily dressed and bikini clad women! Was Nirbhaya immodestly dressed?! Was
the
2 of 2
71 year old nun scantily clad? Take our own little Angel from the Vasco School
- (not convent) Was she raped because she was in a western outfit? Is a school
uniform western? Lata should be advised to do her homework before making such
outrageous and senseless statements.
Thankfully all thinking people of all faiths don’t subscribe to her right wing
fringe element thinking. Our rich Indian culture is all embracing and
inclusive. She has done the greatest injustice to Indian culture by limiting it
to “tilak and kumkum”.
Convent schools over the years have kept their doors open to peoples of all
faiths. These Institutions by their selfless service have given the country
some of its greatest statesmen, administrators, professionals – men and women
of character and caliber. Her clarion call to desist from sending children to
convent schools will fall on deaf ears, save for those few who subscribe to her
extremist doctrine. Pity the children of these misguided adults.
Evidence shows that it is those people who cry hoarse about convent and western
education, who send their children to these very institutions of proven repute.
If everything Western is taboo then why this exodus of children to western
universities? No double standards please! Convent schools don’t have a hidden
agenda and are completely transparent.
Referring to her deterrence against conversion of Hindus, may we remind her of
our Constitution that is based on the non-negotiable human rights principle of
freedom to practice and propagate one’s faith. If there is coercion she may
please raise her voice.
We congratulate Shri Vijai Sardesai, the Fatorda MLA, for his bold, upright and
objective stand. Let the Catholic BJP MLAs take a leaf from his book. Lata, her
husband and their ilk better know that they cannot get away with their false
propaganda.
