2009-11-04 Thread Gamer_Z.

Weird. I deleted, re-downloaded, and re-installed Eclipse one more
time and this time it worked. I am not sure what (if anything) I did
differently...

Re: Sharing code between client and server

2009-11-04 Thread XqSun

You may try to:

1) Find a library which could be compiled/run for both client and
server sides

2) Use generic type (then wrap/extend it for client/server) such as:

public class XmlUtils {
public String getTextNodeValue(Node node) {
Node txNode = getTextNode(node);
return (txNode==null)? "": (txNode.getNodeValue());
}
}

Re: gwt rpc client side serialization

2009-11-04 Thread Carl Pritchett

Is it possible to send the objects to the server via RPC, serialise
using XStream or Jackson and then send back the serialised strings to
the client to store in gears?

This does require having sever side servlets though, which may defeat
your purpose.

Carl.

Re: Session IDs are not unique for first time asking

2009-11-04 Thread XqSun

Oops, the solution is so simple as I said above. It depends much on
your code.

If you need to some thing to test only, I modify my test code as
following - simply put other session requests inside the return of the
first one:

public class GetSession implements EntryPoint {
private final GetSessionServiceAsync myService = GWT.create
(GetSessionService.class);

public void onModuleLoad() {
final Label sessionLabel1 = new Label("Session1: ");
final Label sessionLabel2 = new Label("Session2: ");
final Label sessionLabel3 = new Label("Session3: ");

VerticalPanel vPanel = new VerticalPanel();
vPanel.add(sessionLabel1);
vPanel.add(sessionLabel2);
vPanel.add(sessionLabel3);

RootPanel.get().add(vPanel);

myService.getSessionId(new AsyncCallback() {
@Override
public void onFailure(Throwable caught) { }

@Override
public void onSuccess(String result) {
sessionLabel1.setText("Session1: " + result);

myService.getSessionId(new
AsyncCallback() {
@Override
public void onFailure(Throwable caught)
{ }

@Override
public void onSuccess(String result) {

sessionLabel1.setText("Session2: " + result);
}
});

myService.getSessionId(new
AsyncCallback() {
@Override
public void onFailure(Throwable caught)
{ }

@Override
public void onSuccess(String result) {

sessionLabel2.setText("Session2: " + result);
}
});
myService.getSessionId(new
AsyncCallback() {
@Override
public void onFailure(Throwable caught)
{ }

@Override
public void onSuccess(String result) {

sessionLabel3.setText("Session3: " + result);
}
});
}

});
}
}

I'm not a Tomcat expert. However, there should be an error log. Make sure to
check that.

The nominal GWT project proves GWT's RPC logic. Create a new project. If
you're not using Eclipse, you should be able to create a new project using
the command line tools. Don't do anything to the project except deploy the
WAR to your Tomcat server, and verify that the nominal project works. Start
with the nominal project and work upward from there.

Re: GWT Native Code Deployment

2009-11-04 Thread Darin

Hello again, everyone.

Tomcat is now installed and running. Unfortunately, I am getting
exactly the same behavior as before. The code to process the returned
value on the client is as follows:
securityService.validatePassword(message, new
AsyncCallback(){
@Override
public void onFailure(Throwable caught) {
displayErrorBox("Server error","Unable to
contact the server.");
return;
}
@Override
public void onSuccess(CompressedMessage result) {
String
replyString=compression.Decompress(result);
and so on...

I am getting the top error box every time: "Unable to contact the
server".Technically, Tomcat is not throwing an error; it just can't
seem to process the RPC. This is the same behavior that it was
exhibiting before when I was using the C version of the Apache server.
With respect to jhulford's suggestion: I changed the java.library.path
in Tomcat using the command
-Djava.library.path=C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat
6.0\webapps\ROOT
Then I stopped and restarted the Tomcat service and got exactly the
same behavior. (That was depressing because I really thought that was
going to work.) And I'm out of ideas again... Anything else I should
try?

Best, Darin

Re: CSS file issue + possible bug in GWT 1.7

2009-11-04 Thread Yozons Support on Gmail
I only started with GWT 1.7, so I can't speak about that. But here's what I
have in my gwt.xml:

So, when my module loads, it will insert the link tags to pull in "esf.css"
and "login.css" from the 'module path' generated by the GWT Compiler.
Because my project has multiple gwt.xml files, I segmented the public area
into a 'public/common' for our base styles used in all modules, and another
'public/login' for just the login module. Then I can reference both CSS
files using simple stylesheet entries in the gwt.xml file.

What I found is that my module () folder
war/esfgwt_login not only contains the javascript, but it also has a copy of
the CSS. I guess you can also put images and javascript files in the public
area if you want them to be automatically included, but for me, that's a bit
more rare since we don't have much javascript/images that we share (we're
using image bundles for most images) which have their own scheme.

I just tried placing the css file in public on the same dir as the

images from css file. It also then, starts to look like a GWT 1.5

Re: GWT Native Code Deployment

2009-11-04 Thread Darin

Hi, guys. Thanks again everyone for your help. (Sorry if the thanking
gets repetitive, but I've seen so many impatient and ungrateful
nimrods on forum pages like these that I'd prefer to be overly polite
than seem unappreciative.)

>From your responses, I believe that I may have a solution to the
problem. The Apache server that I downloaded was the C version of the
server which, it appears, does not support Java at all. When I
download and install Tomcat, hopefully one issue will go away.
However, there is the other issue that the Java is calling native code
from a directory that the Java environment will not be aware of. This
may be slightly harder to remedy, but if I understand "jhulford"
correctly, it is possible to determine what the java.library.path is
and place the C/C++ dll there. I will research this and get back to
everyone with the results.

Best, Darin

Re: CSS file issue + possible bug in GWT 1.7

2009-11-04 Thread Open eSignForms

I've seen re-read the modules description and figured out what I
needed to do, at least in Eclipse, and then to use the default names
GWT recognizes.

In the project root where your gwt.xml file is, you should have a
'client' folder where your client code goes that will be converted to
javascript, a 'server' folder where you server-side Java code goes,
and a 'public' folder (which I didn't have before) where you can put
the CSS referenced in your gwt.xml file without the leading /. Now
when I do a GWT Compile, the css files in my public folder are copied
into the war's module folder where it will automatically look for it,
so it no longer needs to be in the HTML host document.

Hope that helps you, too.

Re: CSS file issue + possible bug in GWT 1.7

2009-11-04 Thread Yozons Support on Gmail
I've reported this issue, too. It seems odd, but if you don't put a full
path, it assumes it's in the generated javascript area, but that area is
blown away during each compile, so it's not clear where to define the CSS in
Eclipse so that after the compile it puts the CSS back in there. If you put
the slash, then it's rooted at the /, not the webapp's context path.
Frustrating, but don't know the solution other than to keep it in the HTML
file where it works as expected, though doesn't follow the "module" model of
ensuring the CSS is kept with the module.

Hosted (now "Dev") mode does allow sockets from server classes. App
Engine does not allow sockets. You need to uncheck App Engine in your
project properties in Eclipse.

GWT + Palm WebOS

2009-11-04 Thread cal

Any suggestions on achieving this.
I would love to be able to develop WebOS apps in Java using GWT and I
think tons of other people would too.

I suppose some particular points of interest would be:
-How to integrate with the WebOS eclipse plugin? I was thinking you
would need a WebOS project and a GWT project.
-How do you get Java wrappers for Palm's Mojo framework.
-What kind of GWT compiler settings you would want to work best with
WebOS.

GWT - Earth Need fetchKml()

2009-11-04 Thread littlejodo

I am using the gwt-earth classes to load a google earth instance /
plugin into a GWT project. I noticed that the classes have a parseKml
method, but what I really would like is to use the fetchKml method
that is in the earth javascript api. I have tried creating a
javascript native method to do this. I do not get any errors, yet the
kml is not being shown and I am not sure if it is even being loaded.
Has anyone out there done this? Any advice?

This is the method I am using. It is inside the GoogleEarthWidget
class:

private native void jsFetchKml (String s, GEPlugin plugin) /*-{
var ge;
var instance = this;
function initCB(obj) {
ge = obj;

function finished(object) {
if (!object) {
// wrap alerts in API callbacks and event handlers
// in a setTimeout to prevent deadlock in some browsers
setTimeout(function() {
alert('Bad or null KML.');
}, 0);
plugin.getFeatures().appendChild(object);
return;
}

}

// fetch the KML
var url = s;
google.earth.fetchKml(plugin, url, finished);

}-*/;

CSS file issue + possible bug in GWT 1.7

2009-11-04 Thread grasshopper

Hello all,

I've just migrated a GWT 1.5 project to GWT 1.7.1. One of the issues i
ran into was that in hosted mode my css file was not getting picked
up. Searching through the GWT group i learned that i would need to
add the following line to my gwt.xml file:
 and this made my css styles get picked
up in hosted mode. However, once i was able to compile the project,
build a war, and deploy the war to a tomcat instance, when i would
navigate to app url i would run into the css styles not getting picked
again. In my index.html file, the entry point to my app, i also have
the following:

Two things to notice between what's in index.gwt.xml and index.html:
in index.gwt.xml there is a forward slash, and it needs to be there or
else the css styles will not get picked up. In index.html there is no
forward slash, and it should be that way because that file reference
should be relative to the app url.

Ultimately, i figured out why is my css file not getting picked up in
tomcat. My appname.noncache.js file refers to href="/index.css" which
i am assuming it's getting during compiling from index.gwt.xml.

Is there a way for Compiler not to reference "/index.css" from gwt.xml
file??

Anyone else run into issues with CSS file in GWT 1.7.1???

Re: GWT 1.7 + Eclipse, JPA, Spring configuration

2009-11-04 Thread Davis Ford
This is from the spring page you linked:

Not all JPA providers impose the need of a JVM agent (Hibernate being an
example). If your provider does not require an agent or you have other
alternatives (for example applying enhancements at build time through a
custom compiler or an ant task) the load-time weaver *should not* be used.

This really is more of a hibernate/spring/maven config issue. Apologies to
the list...

Are you using JpaTemplate? I have a blog post here that shows how to setup
JPA with Hibernate/Spring: http://zenoconsulting.wikidot.com/blog:8 -- you
might find it helpful. I don't use a load-time weaver.

Re: RichTextArea gotchas

2009-11-04 Thread Bryan

Interesting: just saw another post about stripping formatting from
RichTextArea:
http://groups.google.com/group/google-web-toolkit/browse_thread/thread/4dbf4aa4f7b455a1

The idea in that post is to catch Ctrl+V KeyDownEvent -- that would
work in some cases and on some platforms, but would not catch all
paste events, e.g. ContextMenu paste.

Does anyone have a 100% reliable method of stripping formatting on
pastes into a RichTextArea ?

Re: RichTextArea gotchas

2009-11-04 Thread Bryan

I also want only plain text to be pasted so that I can apply my own
styles to the text.

The reason that I am looking at RichTextArea instead of a plain
TextArea is because I want the ability to show emoticons and TextArea
does not support anything like images with the text.

I don't see a "PasteHandler" in RichTextArea -- is there some way to
catch the past operation and turn it into plain text?

Siegfried, what is the mechanism to start with a login page view, then
switch to the application view once authenticated, but still using the same
base HTML page?

How do you swap out the login page layout and put in the new one? And
presumably if your RPC shows they are no longer logged in, it can then
revert back and display the login page view again.

Is there a way to create these as separate modules (new to all of this) and
then have them swap in/out? And it seems like there would be more issues
for memory leaks and such doing this as you'd certainly need to be sure to
clear out all objects in the other views as they change.

I know it's possible as I've seen in in gmail, switching from inbox to
contacts, etc., but not clear how to make it work. Any code examples we can
study?

Re: GWT 1.7 + Eclipse, JPA, Spring configuration

2009-11-04 Thread Yaakov

So, when I do provide (as I wrote before) -javaagent:c:\\spring-
agent.jar, and I start up GWT hosted environment through Run in
eclipse, I get an exception like this:
Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: ClassLoader
[com.google.gwt.dev.shell.jetty.JettyLauncher$WebAppContextWithReload
$WebAppClassLoaderExtension] does NOT provide an 'addTransformer
(ClassFileTransformer)' method. Specify a custom LoadTimeWeaver or
start your Java virtual machine with Spring's agent: -javaagent:spring-
agent.jar

Not sure how to get around gwt jetty launcher's inability to accept a
load-time weaver.

Anyone?

Thanks,
Yaakov.

Re: GWT with Google App Engine, Stockwatcher Project: Error 404 in Hosted Browser

2009-11-04 Thread Marc

Solution: i was formating my harddisk and setting up windows, and all
the other stuff.

Before I tried to deinstall all Java related things (the Java
SDK, ...)
I deleted the eclipse.
And then, after a restart, I tried to reinstall the whole thing.
All other java programms were running without problems - except my GWT
thing
(also a new project) had the same problem.

With my new setup also my modyfied programm was working fine.

This doesnt work either.. tried with hexa as well as decimal code
points.

I thought of adding a new text box with the content as well.. didnt
work either.

Re: PHP + GWT ????

2009-11-04 Thread Ian Bambury
OK.

The way I do it is like this:

In the program arguments you need

-noserver -port 1080

if you don't put the port, it will default to 80

in my launch file for my 1.7 minimum app I have

but however you run it, you need those arguments.

You also need a local web server. I use Abyss (since Apache seemed like
overkill) and set it up so that the document root was pointing to the /war/
directory of my project and the port it was using was 1080, and it was also
set up to deal with PHP, of course.

As far as I can remember, that's all you have to do.

The advantage of setting a port number is that you can then set up *another*
project with another port number, and another instance of Abyss which is
pointed at the new project's /war/ directory and uses the new port number.

What is more, you can run both projects in hosted mode at the same time.

In GWT 2.0, you can do exactly the same thing, but if you want to run more
than one project in development mode at the same time, you will also need to
add

-portHosted 9998

(or some other unique hosted mode port number)

If that doesn't make sense, or doesn't work, or you need help setting up
Abyss (if you decide to use it), let me know.

It IS a GWT thing in the sense that it is the Jetty server which the
GWT Eclipse plugin starts up which refuses to recognize that I am
starting its JVM with a -javaagent. Why it does that? I don't know...
All I want to get to is being able to refresh the hosted browser after

instantly.

Well, I didn't make this up, really. Take a look at Spring
documentation for 2.5.5:
http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/2.5.x/reference/orm.html#orm-jpa

ALL 3 options mention weaving.

I haven't found anything wrt GWT provided servlet engine, i.e. jetty
bundled with GWT. The only link I found, I provided, but that doesn't
seem to work anyway.

If anyone has any ideas, please suggest.

Re: RichTextArea gotchas

2009-11-04 Thread tskaife

One problem I always had with RichTextArea was they way they handled
text that was copied from a word processor. Word was specifically
terrible adding 2000 characters of style for text that was 50
characters long. And it's ability to do crazy things like actually
have scrolling marquees, that actually happened to us where someone
made a marquee in word and pasted it into the RichTextArea and it
actually worked. So cleaning up pasted text is a concern as well. We
just end up using normal text areas because we want all styling to be
consistent and not have yellow text with 40 pt font with a magenta
background.

No prob.

I'm still looking for two answers:
1. What error are you getting when running using Apache?
2. What Java server are you using outside development mode? Apache doesn't
support Java. When in development mode, you're using Tomcat. Even when
compiling and running, you're still (probably) using Tomcat (unless you're
using -noserver, and it doesn't sound like you are).

Re: PagingScrollTable/CachedTableModel page count issue

2009-11-04 Thread Andrius Juozapaitis

The DataSourceTableModel is responsible for the actual server side
query (one query returns both the requested results, and total row
count - this saves a server roundtrip), but by default it doesn't have
a reference to the CachedTableModel. I would prefer to inject this
dependency by adding a RowCountChangeEvent handler into
CachedTableModel, but this creates a circular dependency
(CachedTableModel invokes the setRowCount() on the contained
DataSourceTableModel, which fires that event again) and hence it
doesn't work.

not quite sure if that's what you wanted to address in your example
though, pardon me if I got it wrong.

Re: GWT Native Code Deployment

2009-11-04 Thread jhulford

Your DLL needs to go in one of the directories that are specified by
the 'java.library.path' system property, not in your classpath. The
classpath specifies the locations the jvm will look to load java
classes, not native code. I haven't really done any jni stuff in any
web applications I've done so I'm not real sure what the default
library path is in Tomcat.

Re: GWT Native Code Deployment

2009-11-04 Thread Darin

Hi, Adrian and Jeff.

Thanks again for the help from both of you. I greatly appreciate it.

I have two files in the server. One of them is SecurityServiceImpl and
the code looks like this (skipping the includes, etc.):
public class SecurityServiceImpl extends RemoteServiceServlet
implements SecurityService {
private static NativeCodeClass nativeCode=new NativeCodeClass();
private CompressClass compression=new CompressClass();
@Override
public CompressedMessage validatePassword(CompressedMessage m) {
String message=compression.Decompress(m);
String username=message.substring(0,message.indexOf(','));
String password=message.substring(message.indexOf(',')
+1,message.length());
String returnString=nativeCode.validatePassword(username,
password);
CompressedMessage
replyMessage=compression.Compress(returnString);
return replyMessage;
}
}
The other file is called NativeCodeClass and the code looks like this:
public class NativeCodeClass {
static {
System.loadLibrary("SolverLibrary");
}
public native String validatePassword(String username, String
password);
}

I have doublechecked that both of these files are definitely in the
server code (and these are the only files in the server code). When I
run the code from within hosted mode, this code works (i.e. finds the
SolverLibrary and checks the entered password, etc.). And (here comes
the important part), when I compile it and run it from within the
browser by pressing the Compile/Browse button from inside hosted mode,
it works just fine as well inside Mozilla. It fails when I copy the
directories to another place on the hard drive. Unless I am seriously
confused (and I have to admit that this is a possibility), if the
problem was one where the native code was executing inside of
Javascript, it could not run correctly from inside the browser after
the Compile/Browse step.

It occurs to me that maybe my RPC calls to the server are not
functioning correctly when I try to move the folders to somewhere else
on the hard drive. Is there an obvious reason why that might happen?
Thanks for all your help.

You only have to deploy once, so there is a *.cache.js on your server.
It'll then detect it's running in the hostedmode and won't use the
*.nocache.html but the... well... hosted mode.

Or (to repeat myself for the 20th time this year, at least) you can
use a proxy servlet to relay your requests to your server; see issue
3131 for sample code of such a servlet.

Re: GWT Manual Serialization / Deserialization of objects

2009-11-04 Thread mariyan nenchev
Hi,
First what server push framework are you using?
And second, i use jetty-util.jar (from the jetty server). It has very good
classes for auto serialiaztion/deserialization of objects. If you wrap them
in your own util class you may have what you want. But it is only at the
server side, and on the gwt client side i used standart json classes from
gwt. I also digged about manual serialization/deserialization (like in rpc)
but i didn;t have success. So if you do have please let me know.

GWT Manual Serialization / Deserialization of objects

2009-11-04 Thread abdul

In our application we have a steam from Server to Client (Comet) which
we
are using to show dynamic alerts/Server Push.

The stream is successfully working to send any strings.

Now we are looking for the ability to send Objects. So our question
is..

1) How to serialiaze IsSerializable Objects in server side and get it
into
string?
2) How to deserialize them back to Objects in the client side?

Please keep in mind that our requirements is not solved by any RPC
features
offered by GWT. We need server push features.

As of now we are using JSON string in one project for this purpose.
But we
would prefer GWT serialization as it reduces lot of work for us to
convert
from JSON to GWT objects.

Thank you

Re: GWT RPC with Python

2009-11-04 Thread Peter Quiel

I used gwt rpc with PHP and i run in a lot of trubble, have to update
and debug my server code every time the gwt serialization changes and
i spend a lot of time debugging the hole application.

Its up to you but i would use JSON next time.

Re: Sharing code between client and server

2009-11-04 Thread Peter Quiel

If the signature of one methode looks like

public static String getTextNodeValue(com.google.gwt.xml.client.Node
node);

and the other looks like

public static String getTextNodeValue(org.w3c.dom.Node node);

You have different methods.

AFAIK you have to write two wrapping Node classes for server and
client wraping concrete node implementations.

Your util method will looks like this:

public static String getTextNodeValue(my.wraping.NodeInterface node);

Server side implementation of the NodeInterface

public ServerNodeWrapper implements my.wraping.NodeInterface {

public ServerNodeWrapper(org.w3c.dom.Node) { ... }
}

Same for a client implementation.

This may be to much work.

Peter

Re: GWT 1.7 Hosted mode Wont create GWT widgets

2009-11-04 Thread Fabio

I'm facing the same problem, with Eclipse 3.4 on Windows XP. Was
working with it last 4 weeks, and suddenly, Hosted Mode stopped
working.

This occurs even if I try to create a new Blank Google Web
Application, and even if I do this in a new workspace (I only not
tested reinstall eclipse).

The "clean run" on the "new project" renders the html content (Web
Application Starter Project), but dont display any GWT Widget.

The application works if Compile/Browse is used, but this is very
"time expensive" to try and test applications.

By now, I'll follow the advice to use hosted mode from command line.

thanks in advance.

hosted mode picks up old web.xml

2009-11-04 Thread hasan

Hi
I made a change in my web.xml file. I changed the name of my server
side service and correspondingly updated the web.xml file with the new
servlet info and deleted the old one.

My app compiles and launches just fine. Though when the new servlet is
eventually called via a rpc call from the client then it still tries
to find the old servlet (using the old url pattern).

Since nothing is found, it errors out. Could you please tell me how to
tell jetty to reload the new web.xml and discard old info (from the
cache maybe)

Thanks
hasan

Re: Issues using Eclipse and GWT Plugin in Ubuntu Karmic (9.10)

2009-11-04 Thread Daedius

Hey everyone, I had the same problems but i got it all working. Its a
little funky with eclipse and updates, sometimes it doesn't always
show the options for google in the "install packages" dialog.

What I had to do in general was this (mind you, I'm not sure all the
steps were necessary ):
1) Inside of the galileo update site there is a "web tools" checkbox
option in the very last group at the bottom, install that
2) I enabled the web tools site in the list of managed sites
3) added google as a update site ( if you've already done this and
have trouble getting the checked boxes I suggest removing the google
managed site, restart, and adding it again [ I guess it caches the
fact that it failed to find a dependency?? ] )

I also added the sun-jdk, but that may be unrelated to why this worked

Lastly,

When I tried to run the GWT app, I got a problem of not getting libstdc
++5 (apparently karmic only has c++6, so I had to go to get a debian
sarge package at
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gcc-3.3/libstdc++5_3.3.6-18_i386.deb
)

you would use:

paginadorUnidades.addPageChangeHandler(new PageChangeHandler() {

myAsync.getSelectCount ( new
Aync...
   ...
   onSucces
(Integer result) { cachedTable.setRowCount ()result }; /*  */

}});
may be your AsyncCallback>() {... is work even.

bye.

GWT.runAsync load visualization library

2009-11-04 Thread Viktor Zeman

In our project we use google visualization library.
>From this library we use just one map element (Overlay Map)

Library itself contains more than 100KB and I would like to load it
into application just when it will be required by GWT.runAsync

I tried it with multiple ways, but always is library linked to main
compiled code and splitted is just small portion of code.

Does anybody know how to split from main compilation of application
also referenced libraries ?

Thx

Viktor

Re: How to insert static HTML content

2009-11-04 Thread Ian Bambury
What I do is create a complete html file for each page. This allows my site
to get spidered, allows updates without recompiles, easier to write than
Java strings, etc. In the GWT app, I just use requestbuilder to get the page
directly, strip out the content, and put it in an HTMLPanel (so I can get at
the elements by id)

There's no need for any server-side code to get and return the html.

This is exactly what I've come up with, but it just doesn't feel right
- your TableModel should be agnostic of the widgets using it, and
event subscription mechanism seems like a good way to achieve this, it
just won't work in it's current implementation.

Re: TextArea + iPhone

2009-11-04 Thread Sean

Ah, going to the JavaDocs I see that you are correct. I also notice
this snippet here:

A rich text editor that allows complex styling and formatting. Because
some browsers do not support rich text editing, and others support
only a limited subset of functionality, there are two formatter
interfaces, accessed via getBasicFormatter() and getExtendedFormatter
(). A browser that does not support rich text editing at all will
return null for both of these, while one that supports only the basic
functionality will return null for the latter.

I can try it (probably this weekend) to check for both formatters, and
if both are null, switch the input to a text box. Obviosuly it'll only
accept plain text, but it's better then it not working at all.

PagingScrollTable/CachedTableModel page count issue

2009-11-04 Thread Andrius Juozapaitis

Hey,

I was playing around with incubator's PagingScrollTable for a while,
and I've come across an issue there. I have a DataSourceTableModel
that extends MutableTableModel, and looks like this:

public class DataSourceTableModel extends MutableTableModel {
...
@Override
public void requestRows(final TableModelHelper.Request request,
final Callback callback) {
UserService.App.getInstance().getUsers(new
AsyncCallback>() {
@Override
public void onFailure(Throwable throwable) {
Window.alert("failed retrieving the users" +
throwable);
}

@Override
public void onSuccess(final ViewResult
userViewResult) {
Window.alert("received rows: " +
userViewResult.getTotalRows());

// Application.cachedTableModel.setRowCount
(userViewResult.getTotalRows());

callback.onRowsReady(request, new
TableModelHelper.Response() {
@Override
public Iterator getRowValues() {
final Iterator> rows =
userViewResult.getRows().iterator();
return new Iterator(){

@Override
public boolean hasNext() {
return rows.hasNext();
}

@Override
public Object next() {
return rows.next().getValue();
}

@Override
public void remove() {

}
};
}
});
}
});
}
}

It is then wrapped around in a CachedTableModel:

CachedTableModel cachedTableModel = new CachedTableModel
(tableModel);

Now, cachedTableModel actually holds a reference to the
DataSourceTableModel. When retrieving the data using
DataSourceTableModel.requestRows(,,,) method, I get back a number of
total rows in the result set, and would like to update the paging
control accordingly. The problem is, if I invoke setRowCount
(userViewResult.getTotalRows())) in this method,it only updates the
underlying DataSourceTableModel, not the cachedTableModel, which is
actually used by the PagingScrollTable.

A RowCountChangeEvent event is fired when invoking setRowCount() on a
DataSourceTableModel, but I can't register a listener on
CachedTableModel for it, because CachedTableModel.setRowCount() looks
like

  public void setRowCount(int rowCount) {
tableModel.setRowCount(rowCount);
super.setRowCount(rowCount);
  }

so it would in turn invoke DataSourceTableModel's setRowCount, and go
into an infinite loop, as it fires another event.

Am I missing something here? Are there any other ways to achieve this
functionality without holding a back reference to a CachedTableModel
inside a DataSourceTableModel?

regards,
Andrius Juozapaitis

Right, HyperlinkImpl should be made somehow public so it would be safe
to use it with Anchor (safe meaning here forwards-compatible; it could
be a public static method of Anchor for instance, hiding the use of
HyperlinkImpl). (may I suggest you file an issue ;-) )

   Anchor tagCloud = ...;
   tagCloud.addClickHandler(new ClickHandler() {
  HyperlinkImpl impl = GWT.create(HyperlinkImpl.class);
  public void onClick(ClickEvent event) {
 if (impl.handleAsClick(event.getNativeEvent().cast())) {
TagPopup.this.hide();
History.newItem("tagcloudToken");
 }
  }
   });

The above works right now, and with a public static method, it would
turn into:
...
   if (Anchor.handleAsClick(event)) {
...
which is much more readable ;-)

setText and setValue takes text, not HTML. The fact that it works in
your JSP is because you're putting the value within the HTML that'll
be parsed by the browser when loading the page; it's not using
JavaScript.

Just use \u or the actual character you want to display (you're
using UTF-8, which is able to encode any Unicode code-point, so it
shouldn't be a problem).

Re: GWT Native Code Deployment

2009-11-04 Thread Adrian

Hi guys,

I think Darin might not be up to speed with the differences between
server side and client side stuff and also how web environment differs
from the desktop environment. You might know this already but if not
it might clear a few things up.

When developing an application with GWT in Eclipse you need to be
aware of two distinct parts, the client side and the server
side.Eclipse should setup a couple packages for these parts when you
create a GWT project so you don't get confused. The client side is
compiled from java to javascript that is designed to run only in a
browser. That means the resulting javascript has all the limitations
enforced by the browser, which includes no way to run native code. So
GWT compiles the java in the client package to javascript, which is
run in the browser once the browser requests it from your webserver
(apache in this case). Because apache isn't a java application server
(like tomcat, jetty etc) it cannot directly run the server side java
(stuff in the server package).

Things get a little confusing when you're running in hosted mode
because a lot of fancy stuff is happening in the background so it
appears the java code you have written for the client is running
directly, it basically skips the compiling to javascript step and runs
the client code as java. Because java has the ability to run native
code it will appear to work, however once compiled to javascript it
wont because javascript doesn't have the functionality (mainly for
security reasons).

Also don't be fooled by javascript's name, it is a very different
language than java!

So, you can't run native code from javascript in a browser, but you
can run it from java on the server side. A possibly solution could be
to use GWT's Remote Procedure Calls to run the native code on the
server, then get the results sent to back to the client.

Hope that helps,
Adrian

export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1
/opt/eclipse-3.5/eclipse

doing ajax request to an external server (rails)

2009-11-04 Thread samsus

Hello,

Im tyring to do ajax requests to my rails server from the hosted
browser, its not working because of cross domain scripting protection.
In the past i have done he same thing using apache/php by disabling
the security in IE6 (and thus allowing the hosted browser to do these
requests). However now i have installed IE7 and cant find any option
to allow that.

Has anyone managed to do that? whats your workaround to do requests to
external servers from the hosted browser?

Re: gwt-incubator DropDownListBox widget: How to add scrollbar to the list of items?

2009-11-04 Thread Olivier

This should fix it :
http://perishablepress.com/press/2007/01/16/maximum-and-minimum-height-and-width-in-internet-explorer/

I'm not sure if IE8 still support expression in css but it might support
max-height :)

Setting Unicode text in Text Box and Text Area

2009-11-04 Thread Anurag Setia

I am trying to set some unicode text to display some unicode supported
language text in a textbox and a textarea. I am using the decimal
representations used by HTML for the same purpose in the format
ї

The same gets display if I use this data in a JSP and shows up in the
text box, however, when I am setting it through GWT i.e. setText or
setValue, i see the decimal representation in the page.

Any clue...

PS - content type of the page is set to UTF-8
