Is there a way to include/select Vim as the default editor under
FOIA Vista, Debian/Linux and GT.M ? During the Boston meeting I recall
that David Whitten mentioned that this was possible, but I can't
remember what the procedure was.

Also I am just creating my preferences for OpenFORUM and was wondering
which would be the most common editor to use from these choices -

Editing data in the NEW PERSON file:

Choose from:
KERMIT LOAD

SCREEN EDITOR - VA FILEMAN
VMSEDT - GTM
XTENSIBLE EDITOR

Set the EDITOR environment variable before starting GT.M to point to any
editor. When ZEDIT function is invoked from inside GT.M, it will
start the editor pointed to by $EDITOR, e.g.:

I am not sure, however, whether VistA invokes an editor with ZEDIT. I

[Hardhats-members] HHS NHIN RFI summary

2005-06-06 Thread Joseph Dal Molin
HHS has published it's findings from the RFI it issued on the Natioanl
Health Information Network initiativehere is a brief quote from the
reportpatient centric and decentralizedhas a familiar ring to it??

http://www.hhs.gov/healthit/rfisummaryreport.pdf

Among the many opinions expressed, significant support emerged for the
following concepts:

A NHIN should be a decentralized architecture built using the Internet,
linked by uniform communications and a software framework of open
standards and policies.
A NHIN should reflect the interests of all stakeholders and be a joint
public/private effort.
A governance entity composed of public and private stakeholders should
oversee the determination of standards and policies.
A NHIN should be patient-centric with sufficient safeguards to protect
the privacy of personal health information.
Incentives will be needed to accelerate the deployment and adoption of a
NHIN.
Existing technologies, federal leadership, prototype regional exchange
efforts, and certification of EHRs will be the critical enablers of a NHIN.
Key challenges to developing and adopting a NHIN were listed as: the
need for additional and better refined standards; addressing privacy
concerns; paying for the development and operation of, and access to the
NHIN; accurately matching patients identity; and addressing discordant
inter- and intra-state laws regarding health information exchange.

Re: [Hardhats-members] Default Editor for Vista and MailMan OpenFORUM email

2005-06-06 Thread Gregory Woodhouse
There is an ALTERNATE EDITOR file (I think I got the name right) that
provides a platform independent mechanism for invoking editors (much
as the DEVICE file provides a platform independent mechanism for
working with devices. VistA on GT.M may or may not invoke ZEDIT
under the hood. Remember that one of the roles of Kernel is to
abstract away from platform dependencies and software written for
VistA shouldn't ever need to use platform specific commands, nor
should users (in principle, at least) need to be concerned about the
underlying platform.

Re: [Hardhats-members] Default Editor for Vista and MailMan OpenFORUM email

2005-06-06 Thread Kevin Toppenberg
I would like to an alternate editor as well.

When in look in the ALTERNATE EDITOR file, I see the
entries that Ismet posted earlier. Here is the data
for these files:

ACTIVATION CODE FROM DIWE:
-
XTENSIBLE EDITOR: D
ENTRY^RGED(DIG,$G(DIWETXT),$G(DIWESUB))
SCREEN EDITOR: D ^DDW
KERMIT LOAD: S XTKDIC=DIC D RECEIVE^XTKERMIT

Thus there doesn't seem to be comman pattern for the
pre-execute code. Where could I learn more about how
to set up for the external editor, and how to load
changed back into VistA?

Look in the Fileman manual under ^DIWE. Basically, WP fields are
expected to be stored in globals, but to use an external editor, you
will probably need to copy the contests to a scatch (host) file, edit

2005-06-06 Thread Nancy Anthracite
Below is from the VA Demo, however, there is no field 31.3 in the NEW PERSON
file in the VA Demo. I was hoping to find an example.

Select ALTERNATE EDITOR: KerMIT LOAD
ANOTHER ONE:
STANDARD CAPTIONED OUTPUT? Yes// (Yes)
Include COMPUTED fields: (N/Y/R/B): NO// BOTH Computed Fields and Record
Number
 (IEN)

NUMBER: 3 NAME: KERMIT LOAD
  ACTIVATION CODE FROM DIWE: S XTKDIC=DIC D RECEIVE^XTKERMIT
RETURN TO CALLING EDITOR: K XTKDIC
 DESCRIPTION:
This option uses the KERMIT protocol to load the word-processing field
 from another system.

From the Data Dictionary:
POINTED TO BY: PREFERRED EDITOR field (#31.3) of the NEW PERSON File (#200)

DESCRIPTION: This is the name of the alternate editor. It
must start with a unique character.

HELP-PROMPT: This is Standard MUMPS code, used to set up th

environment for editing a Standard FileMan
word-processing field using this editor.
DESCRIPTION: This field holds the MUMPS code to properly
establish the environment that will allow use
of this editor to edit any VA FileMan
word-processing type field. Typically this
code might move the text into another MUMPS
global (like ^UTILITY) or to some other file
format for editing. If the editor is written
in MUMPS, it should either use variables that
do not begin with the letter D, or should
NEWall its local variables to avoid problems
on
return to the FileMan editor.

If the variable DIWE(1) is defined, it
indicated that the user has switched to this
editor from the standard FileMan Line Editor,
and upon return, the control will be returned
to the line editor.

This editor may set the variable DIWESW to 1,
if they wish to allow the user to switch to an
alternate editor from this one.

This editor is required to restore the edited
text to standard FileMan word-processing
format
before exiting.

  INPUT TRANSFORM: K:$L(X)245 X D:$D(X) ^DIM

  LAST EDITED: FEB 02, 1990
HELP-PROMPT: This is Standard MUMPS code that sets $T to
true if it is OK to use this editor.
DESCRIPTION: This field holds MUMPS code used to pre-check
the environment before allowing the user to
enter this editor. This field should set the
$TEST indicator. If $TEST is true then it is
OK for this editor to run at this time. If $T
is false, the user will be returned to the
FileMan line editor.

If the field is null, it will be the same as
$T=true

An example would be a mixed VAX-PDP site using
a VMS editor.

editor.

[Hardhats-members] GT.M V5.0-000 available

2005-06-06 Thread K.S. Bhaskar
GT.M V5.0-000 is now available. V5.0-000 is a major release of GT.M. The
fact that it has a new top level version number - V5 vs. V4 - means that
it has a new database format. There is significant new functionality as
well, as described in the V5.0-000 Release Notes
(http://www.sanchez-gtm.com/user_documentation/targets/GTM_V5.0-000_Release_Notes.html).

Even though a database format change affects every index and data block
in the database, GT.M V5.0-000 comes with an upgrade procedure that
operates mostly in parallel with normal application operation. Stand
alone access is required typically only for a few seconds. Note that
for applications deployed in a logical dual site configuration, the
upgrade can be accomplished with continuous application availability.

The most significant enhancements in this release are as follows:

1. Transaction counts are increased from 32 bits to 64 bits.

2. M names can be up to 31 characters long.

3. A new intrinsic function, $INCREMENT(glvn[,expr]), is provided to
atomically increment a global variable by a numeric value.

4. Network services can now be written in GT.M and deployed under
inetd/xinetd.

5. On the secondary of an application deployed in a logical dual site
configuration, helper processes can now be used to speed the rate at
which updates can be committed to disk.

6. There is now an option for a database file to allow existing global
variable nodes with null subscripts but to prohibit setting/updating
global variables with null subscripts.

7. On OpenVMS, upper and lower case labels in M routines can be the
target of a call from an external C routine to an M routine.

8. GT.M traditionally collated a null subscript between numeric
subscripts and string subscripts. The M standard specifies that null
subscripts be collated before numeric subscripts. When a database file
is created, it can now be created to use either traditional GT.M
collation or M standard collation for null subscripts.

Please see the announcement of the release
(http://www.sanchez-gtm.com/news/news_060605.htm).

GT.M for x86 GNU/Linux used under the GNU General Public License (GPL)
can be downloaded from Source Forge
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/sanchez-gtm). Software for customers
who have purchased support can be downloaded from the GT.M FTP site.

Please also visit the new documentation area in the GT.M project page

Henceforth, we intend to make all documentation available there.

Ok, in the fileman API, I find the function EN^DIWE.
And it lists the input variables to that function. Is
it safe to assume that all these same variables would
be available to a custom editor call? I.e. to the
pre-execute code etc.?

If so, then the pseudocode would be something like
this
-- write global to file
-- call $zsystem vim editfile
-- read file back to global

I may try this one of these days...

 7. On OpenVMS, upper and lower case labels in M routines can be the
target of a call from an external C routine to an M routine.

 8. GT.M traditionally collated a null subscript between numeric
subscripts and string subscripts. The M standard specifies that null
subscripts be collated before numeric subscripts. When a database file
is created, it can now be created to use either traditional GT.M
collation or M standard collation for null subscripts.

Please see the announcement of the release
 (http://www.sanchez-gtm.com/news/news_060605.htm).

GT.M for x86 GNU/Linux used under the GNU General Public License (GPL)
can be downloaded from Source Forge
 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/sanchez-gtm). Software for customers
who have purchased support can be downloaded from the GT.M FTP site.

Please also visit the new documentation area in the GT.M project page
 (http://www.sanchez-gtm.com/user_documentation/user_doc.htm).
Henceforth, we intend to make all documentation available there.

Re: [Hardhats-members] Default Editor for Vista and MailMan OpenFORUM email

2005-06-06 Thread Greg Woodhouse
That's the basic idea.

In my own code, I've stored XML documents in WP fields and then used
EN^DIWE to offer the user the opportunity to edit a document loaded
from disk. Of course, the problem is that if the user makes a mistake,
the document may even cease to be valid XML! In the future, I think I
may consider processing, generating and storing XML, but it's probably
better to edit it with a GUI tool.

Ok, in the fileman API, I find the function EN^DIWE.
And it lists the input variables to that function. Is
it safe to assume that all these same variables would
be available to a custom editor call? I.e. to the
 pre-execute code etc.?

If so, then the pseudocode would be something like
 this
 -- write global to file
 -- call $zsystem vim editfile
-- read file back to global

I may try this one of these days...

I was so caught up today with the release of GT.M and I should have paid more
attention to this thread than I did. To edit globals, look at the ^%GED
utility (discussed in Chapter 10 of the Programmers Guide), which saves you
some of the work.

  Usha,
   The routine XLFNAME7was part of Kernel patch 343 ( XU*8.0*343 )

  [Hardhats-members] NOIS file missing

  Hi

Just trying to see how NOIS functions...

The NOIS Technical Manualsays in "Setup
  NOIS Specialists" subsection
Enter in the people to be editing NOIS calls in the NOIS User
Defaults file. You may wish to
  include ADPACs as NOIS Specialists.
Only the name of the person is required to be entered in order for them
  to begin using NOIS.

While adding users in NOIS, I tried to enter a
new row in the NOIS USER DEFAULTS file. While trying to thisas DUZ=.5,
  this is what I get

  GTMD Q^DI

  VA FileMan 22.0

Select OPTION: 1 ENTER OR EDIT FILE ENTRIES

INPUT TO WHAT FILE: DOMAIN// NOIS USER DEFAULTS (15
  entries)EDIT WHICH FIELD: ALL//

Select NOIS USER DEFAULTS NAME: AJ%GTM-E-ZLINKFILE, Error while
  zlinking "XLFNAME7",%GTM-E-FILENOTFND, File XLFNAME7 not
  found
  At M source location T+2^DICM1

  GTM
  The /usr/local/OpenVistA/r/ and /home/vista/OpenVistA/r/ directories
don't contain any file of the name XLFNAME7.m. The /usr/local/OpenVistA/r
  directory has XLFNAME1.m, XLFNAME2.m, XLFNAME3.m, XLFNAME4.m, XLFNAME5.m and
  XLFNAME6.m.

The PACKAGE file shows that NOIS 1.1 is installed.
Issomepatch missing? Or only the file is missing? How to get
  the file or patch?

  Regards
  Usha
