[ha-Safran]: Library jobs in Israel?

2006-08-24 Thread srhurwitz
Hi everyone --

I recently joined this list at the advice of my brother, who said I
may be able to get some advice from you -- my undergraduate degree is
in journalism, I am in my last semester of my MLS program and plan on
taking a course in indexing in a couple of months and on top of that,
am planning to make aliyah in the summer of 2008. In the meantime I
am trying to gather professional contacts and try to determine what
the job market is like in Israel in the fields of librarianship
and/or publishing, especially for someone who is still working on
learning Hebrew? Any advice or contact names anyone can give me would
be very helpful!

Thanks a million in advance,

Shoshana Hurwitz

Thanks for this record. I want to use in my cataloging
class. However, shouldn't the collation in the 300 field be in
kilograms and centimeters? See AACR2 10.5. I think the 300 field
should be : 300 __$a1 person ; $c3.41 kg [7.5 lbs], 51.43 cm [20.25 in.]

You are missing a GMD designation after the title. Is a second 245
field with the Hebrew name required? Why did you not use the
classification BM 750?

The hospital is no more the publisher than a printer or book store is
the publisher of a book.

I am just trying to be amusing, not nitpicking. In your own catalog
you may have special Bernstein rules ;-) that I do not know about.

[ha-Safran]: Help with request

2006-08-24 Thread shoshanah (rose) seidman
Hi:

A patron has asked for books/magazines to give to a 15 yr old boy
who, for the last 2 years, has, on his own initiative, attended the
after school program at the synagogue near his home. He is Jewish
but is not growing in a Jewish home. He is bright, intelligent and
has some knowledge of Hebrew now. She has already offered him some
Judaica items and The Chosen by Potok.

She would like a list of books and also a good Jewish magazine.

Thanks in advance,

Shoshanah Seidman

[ha-Safran]: Publication of In The Plains Of The Wilderness, Ant

2006-08-24 Thread MAZO
Chaim Mazo is pleased to announce the publication of In The Plains Of
The Wilderness, Anthologies of Modern Jewish History.

In his review of this book, Rabbi Dr. Alex Jassen at the Center for
Jewish Studies at the University of Minnesota says, this book is a very
readable survey of the major turning points and influential personalities in
modern Jewish history...and the present state of Jews and Judaism.

In the Plains of the Wilderness presents a fresh picture to
understanding the trends and events in the modern Jewish world by examining
significant episodes of Jewish history.
A scholarly work, the author, Paul Azous, documents the Jews' transition
from culture to culture, traversing through the wilderness. He supports his
research with more than 800 annotations and has successfully culled the key
events of the past 3,000 years to form a cohesive and thorough analysis of
the modern era of Jewish history.
Whether you are an educator examining new source material to introduce,
or a library seeking an easy to understand book with a straightforward
approach to understanding your Jewish cultural and religious heritage, In
the Plains of the Wilderness will bring forth a clarity of history rarely
grasped so quickly.

In The Plains Of The Wilderness, Anthologies of Modern Jewish History
is distributed by Ingram and Baker and Taylor. It is available through
Gardners and Bertrams in the UK.

usually order my books through Baker Taylor. I noticed that Random

to find large print books (in print) with Jewish content? I will
