Re: [hlds] Re: unannounced updates

2005-12-25 Thread Dagok

All I've seen for the last week is a lot of whining. In the grand scheme of
things, this was a minor blip on the radar. Did this last patch really
effect your lives that dramatically? I doubt it. Get over it and move on
with your insignificant lives. Could things have gone better? Sure. Are
they aware of their mistake? Yes, and dont need you being assholes about it
for the last week. Threats of "email box full of gripes for Alfred to come
back to"...you seriously need to grow up. The world isnt perfect, the
people at Valve have lives that don't revolve around you. Valve makes
mistakes, and I'm guessing you've made plenty of your own wherever you work.
Do people act like this when you fuck up? I sure as hell hope so, just so
you can be on the receiving end of the crap you seem so readilly willing to
dish out.

Valve fucked this one up, so what.

This is not an apology for Valve, because they really did fuck things up,
but its a sad indicment on the rest of you who were stupid enough to think
things would run smoothly a few days out from christmas and with Alfred on
holidays.

Real professionals expect everybody else to fuck things up and plan
accordingly, because they have been there, done that, and bought the
t-shirt many times before, amateurs just sit there and cry like a bunch of
12 year old CS players.

I understand the fustrations a lot of you express... I have my fair share
as
well... but let's look at the facts

I work in the industry and a number of you whine and cry over what: Free
Maintenance and Upgrades at "NO COST". Recurring revenue is not based on
anything "FREE". The people at STEAM make available to you at thier cost
the updates, and maintenance to continue to enhance the game, fix it and
for
what? The hope by providing a better game full of enhancements and fixes
to
us the loyal parties, we will support future products.

Now I could understand the complaining over you paying for maintenace on
a
yearly period, which by the way is 10 - 23% percent of cost of the
application purchase price. But give them a break, they are trying no
matter how fustrating it may be to you to do it at thier cost, not at
yours.
And for those who have never wrote a full application for someone other
than
yourself, try it sometime and see if you do not get complaints, or
request
for enhancements, etc.

As for those who host a Server for money, Just what are you bitching
about
having to do some work to earn your money... is beyond me. If you
entered this venture of hosting for money to sit on your a$$ and make
bucks
by turn it on and forget it mode... guess again... You are paid for
services
to host and update... as required... SO QUIT COMPLAINING about having to
do
the job you are paided for... If an update comes in... then it is your
job
or if your contract specifies it is the party who you are providing
services
to update it... then it is up to them.

Last of my rants... I think the people out there who code and develop
Plugin's and Admin Mods... hats off to you and people quit bitchin at
them
as well Again a loyal group of people who supply tools for the game
and at a price of FREE. A number of people and I was one... as well
bitched
and complained over something for FREE... well high time we should stop
and
just say THANK YOU... to those out there there support our Gaming,
Business
and care to make it better...

This forum has been very informational on subjects, supportive when bugs
and
a good group of people overall... On that note I will get down off my
soap
box and wish you all Safe and an Enjoyable Holiday..

There is a logging bug in the game server right now where steam id's for
players very occasionally get mixed up, we are looking into it. However,
this mixup CANNOT cause you to be banned, the game server has nothing to
do with cheat banning. It is also not possible to Steam a SteamID, you
need the Steam account name and password to get access to a Steam ID
(with the exception of the above logging bug, but that does not effect
ANY other steam services).

Haven't had so many problems with crashing such as this, but I have
had lots and lots of the SteamID stealing, including one my own
SteamIDs. Within 2-3 weeks of this, all the SteamIDs were banned.
This means that I play competition with a SteamID that I only use
for competition play and another SteamID for pubbing. I hope the
SteamID stealing problem gets fixed. In all cases I have seen, the
servers have been VAC2 enabled.

I wonder what the official Valve stance is on the SteamID stealing.

--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I own and operate the LANFusion gaming community. We have 5
source servers, and in the past week have been experiencing many
problems with the servers going down. At first I thought it was
something to do w/ the admin mods, however, I have traced it to a
group of hackers. Basically, one of these guys comes into the
servers, and starts using all the normal hacks (walls, aim, you
name it). Then, when he knows he's been bagged (or about to be)
he starts spamming text or music which tells people "Console hacks
activated, press console button to turn on" (or something to that
point). This gets people in the server to press the console
button, and when they do, their HL2 program freezes. This causes
people in the server to time out, and if enough do it, causes the
server itself to have a memory read error.

Now these people are tricky, because not only can they make the
server crash, but they are using other peoples steam ids. The
only way I have been able to stop them is by banning the IP
address from which they connected. But they just change their IP
address and come right back. I searched through my log files for
the name and IP and found that one guy had connected from the same
IP with about 15 different STEAMIDs. When i searched the
steamid's he had, I saw that those steamid's belonged to other
people who were in the server at the time. I have no idea how he's
masking his actual steamid (or how he's stealing other peoples)
but this is a real problem.

One of my admins traced one of the guys back to a group called ICT
or 'International Coding Team' (* *www.theict.com ). I tried to
register on their forums but my account wouldn't activate. I'm
not positive if these guys are the actual culprits, however, they
are apparently coming out with a ton of hacks.

Valve, are you aware of this exploit? Have any of you guys
experienced a similar problem on your CS:S servers? If so, do you
have any suggestions on how to get around it?

Aaron Matthews

It is mp_autoteambalance "1"however...the valve method takes a full

If you run Mani Admin or Beattlemod, they have a team balance function that

You will still get sprays that are built-in as no cvar rules are broken
then, being that no files were sent over the

Hey Alfred,

What happened to the Pre-Announcement of upcoming Steam patches and then
the Announcement of the actual patches? Ive noticed as of late that these
announcements have not been being made.

I for one, and I'm sure plenty of other admins, rely on these announcements
since we do not sit around refreshing www.steampowered.com or restarting Steam
to see if a patch has been released.

Would be appreciated if we can go back to getting advance notice and then the
announement of these patches.

thanks,

Re: [hlds] Losing net connection when I refresh the server list - OT

2005-10-28 Thread Dagok

Thanks for the suggestion, it seems to have worked.

Your additional attitude was not required or welcome though. I am a server
admin, and I have helped when I can on these mailing lists. So people like
you and Eric can shove it up your elitist asses when it comes to telling
people to not use the mailing lists for help, even if it happens to be a
simple question that may not be directly related to a Linux or Win server.

I've seen far worse off topic discussions here that go on for days
unchecked. So when 1 person (a server admin no less) asks for a little help
you may want to consider biting your tongue instead of being a jerkoff.

Please take this to the Steampowered.com Forums or please list [OT] in the

speed down in there. That is suppose to directly control how many servers
it

everytime hit refresh, and it cuts off whatever else I have going that is
connected to the net. I consider this a big problem.

And now that I think about it, I know this didnt occur before because just
last week (on previous WinXP install) I was browsing server for custom
maps
to play. So I really doubt its the router.

i don't think that would be the case.. because it seems to me that steam
itself would probly just run on one connection. and i have xp pro and
have

don't

This is no joke. I am temporarily losing net connection when I refresh

Server browser list. I can play a game fine, until I want to refresh the
server browser. This occurs from the ingame browser and the steam
browser.
If using the ingame browser I actually lose connection to the current
game.

This is a fresh WinXP SP2 install, all updates installed. Firewall is
on,
and I just tried adding all of Steam to the firewall exceptions list and
it
still does it. I never noticed the problem before, but I rarely play on
anyone elses server but my own, so I usually just goto Favorites and join

Any help would be appreciated.

its probly just your internet connection.. when it loads up that massive
list of servers, it creates a bottleneck, so other things lose connection
temporarily. that would be my first guess.. cuz like a firewall wouldn't
do
something like that.. my guess is either your internet connection, or you
just have a junkie router or something.

Yea, and that occurs everytime someone connects...which on a popular server,
is alot.

I'd rather it be silent and only announce players that failed the check.

I'm pretty sure HLGuard enforces cvars on clients. On top of it,
config
files are writable so you can enforce whatever you like.

Re: [hlds] Bots not vacating immediately?

2005-10-18 Thread Dagok

James, no offense, but stop trying to help. All you did was just reiterate
what I just said about quote_mode fill.
You are telling me nothing I don't already know and have not addressed the
problem that I outlined in the first email.

The bots are auto filling, the bots are auto vacating. The problem is bots
are just waiting until the round is over to auto vacate instead of doing it
immediately like they used to. Thus the round is completing and being
counted towards the mp_winlimit instead of starting the rounds over when
human players join.

I seem to remember auto vacate 1 was causing me crashes on map change at
times, as such I've not touched that cvar since.

Bot_quota_mode fill will add bots up to the number of players specified by
bot_quota. When a human joins a team, a bot will automatically vacate,
until
there are bot_quota human players or more.

It sounds like you want to have bots there until a human joins a team, at
which point you want all bots to disappear, this is more like bot_quota 1
&
bot_quota_mode fill; only with more bots?

No, I already have bot_quota_mode fill set and always have, and is the
direct opposite of auto vacate. It tells the bots to fill the server when
a
player leaves.

Let me be clear here. I went away for 2 months, came back and it was
doing
this, possibly only after the last CSS patch. Nobody has changed the

3 = 180secs, etc. It does not work in conjunction with sv_timeout.

And I'm trying to tell you that based on experimentation it is working in
conjunction with mp_autokick.

I didnt distort anything. I said the same thing as the what the cvar list
says, I just said it in my own words.

If it is reverting back to 65 after a map change, fine, it's a bug...I
was
saying it has nothing to do with mp_autokick and it still has nothing to
do
with mp_autokick. Two different functions for 2 different purposes.

sv_timeout is not based on keyboard strokes or movement input. It's based
on a net connection to that player. If you turned off mp_autokick, the
player could sit there afk all night long as long as their net connection
continues to send packaets to the server. But if that connection stops
sending packets to the server, this is when sv_timeout would kick in and
drop the player after the specified amount of time.

You guys are distorting the definition for sv_timeout. Quoting the DoD
client cvar list (which includes server for obvious reasons) it states:

sv_timout, "65" <--- default, "After this many seconds without a message
from the client, the client is dropped"

I have experimented with what a 'message' is as a client, especially when
trying to do something while idle on a server. As long as I crouched or
shot my gun or jumped in the air every so often, i didn't get kicked. If
I
tried something like a voice_command bind, I got dropped.

Having experimented with the sv_timeout on Monday the 26th (everyone was
trying to adjust their video settings to gain fps, resulting in that
repetitive pause for 60+ seconds sometimes), I feel confident that like
Ricardo says, the sv_timeout value reverts back to the default after the
map
change, because I had extended the value via RCON ingame, and for that
map
only, people weren't dropping like flies.

Try my aforementioned fix (previous email) and see if it works.

In CSS, It's 10 or 15min with mp_autokick 1. I tested it last week just to
see if it was kicking after 1min and it wasn't, but I havent tested the full
duration. However, I havent tested since the minor Source Engine patch the
other day.

I didn't know about this either. Thanks for the confirmation.

One question; you say the CS:S way. What way is that? The way we thought
all
along? ie. mp_autokick 1 and the idle time can't be modified?

mp_autokick 1 gives you ~60 seconds before the client is kicked for
inactivty.

mp_autokick 2 gives you ~120 seconds before the client is kicked for
inactivity.

mp_autokick 3 gives you ~180 seconds, and so forth.

Try it, it seems to work for me.

Hey all. I've ran multiple servers with multiple game servers for years
now,
I've always either used win2000 or XP on all my p4 machines.
I've recently purchased four 3.0 dual xeon servers 2MB cache and am going
back and fourth on what OS to use.

Any suggestions? I'm going between XP and 2003 Server.

I mainly run valve dedicated servers. But also do other multiplayer games,
I'm also hosting BF2. I just wanted to see if 2003 Server would maximize
the
amount of game servers on one box? I have plenty of resources on my
network
for bw so that's not an issue. Each machine has 3GB of ram. With 10k RPM
drives.
Please if you have any experience with this subject or have any benchmarks
with your xeon machines using different OSs I would be greatly
appreciative.

How many game servers are current owners of dual xeon 3.0s currently
running?
Thank guys for all the great feedback that goes through this list.

Alfred, at least give admins the option of using mp_fadetoblack with DoDs.
As I understand it, this cvar doesnt work in DoDs (haven't checked myself),
and would be a decent alternative to the default camera behavior.

The camera behavior after death is by design (we spent a while bouncing
back and forwards with that). CPU usage is what it is, we are looking
into optimisations but there isn't any low hanging fruit. I will ask
about team wounding, I don't remember ever talking about the logging
strategy for it.

Subject: [hlds] Various issues with DoD:S

I'll keep it short 'n sweet:

1) CPU usage - DoD:S, at default settings, is a CPU hog... at least on
the
Linux platform. Other admins I have discussed this with that run this on
win2000/w2k3 also agree. With the number of players and the tickrate
being
equal (66), DoD:S uses about double the amount of CPU as CS:S does.
However,
I have talked to one admin who says setting the sv_turbophysics cvar to
zero
brings CPU usage down to normal levels. He says leaving the cvar set to
one
lets players actually knock over objects as opposed to bouncing off of
them
(e.g. a barrel). I noticed that CS:S also has the cvar now, but by
default
is set to zero. I'd like some official clarification on this setting,
and
what kind of CPU usage we should expect leaving it on vs. leaving it
off,
and if the number of movable objects on a map makes a difference.

2) Team wounding reporting - with CS:S, if a player wounds a teammate,
the
rest of the team sees notification of it. In DoD:S this is missing.

3) I noticed mp_forcecamera defaults to one, which is a good thing for
this
type of game. However, when you die, for the 3-4 seconds before you
respawn,
the in-game camera points directly to the player that killed you, and
tracks
their movements. If you're a sniper, this pretty much gives away your
position to the other team (granted you shouldn't stay in the same spot
for
more than a few seconds anyways, but that's moot). Several of my
playerbase
have noticed this and have been asking my admin staff to turn it off -
and
of course we cant. If the CPL ever pulls their collective heads out of
their
ass and host DoD:S at one of their next big tournaments, this is going
to be
a problem. It kinda already is... would like to see a cvar to allow
admins
to enable/disable this behavior at the very least.

That's all I have for now, hope to see some feedback on this list (hi
Alfred
;-) ). Thx for your time.

If nothing more, it gives people sitting on empty servers, waiting for more

Also gives people without internet connections something to do. And there

2 or 3 weeks, or months? dod_caen please :)

It was said Lost Coast would come out after DoD Source...it must be

Will we see any of the new features added to CSS? ie: The awesome

And not really a new feature, but something that has long been
requested...floating crosshairs for the sniper rifles in CSS, like the

Also in the August 5th Steam News Update the SAS models were stated as
almost being ready...and what ever happened to de_nuke and cs_militia?

Alfred, now that DoD Source is out...

What timeframe can we expect the some other maps for DoDs to be completed?
2 or 3 weeks, or months? dod_caen please :)

It was said Lost Coast would come out after DoD Source...it must be close
to
being completed, if not completed. When can we expect it? From August
5th
Steam News Update " we're expecting to have Lost Coast ready in a couple
of
weeks. "

Will we see any of the new features added to CSS? ie: The awesome sound
system used in DoDs, and HDR?
And not really a new feature, but something that has long been
requested...floating crosshairs for the sniper rifles in CSS, like the
ones
in DoDs? Force snipers to finally have some skill other than point and
click.

Also in the August 5th Steam News Update the SAS models were stated as
almost being ready...and what ever happened to de_nuke and cs_militia?

thanks,

Prior to VAC2 beta I saw tons of cheaters...and banned lots too.

Since then I havent seen any...well the odd one or two, but they are using

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
One of the biggest problems I ran into as a lead admin for a gaming
company
was the admins themselves. Any time a player came in showing any amount of
exceptional skill it was decided he must be cheating. This was despite
having multiple anti cheat measures I spent hours researching and updating
constantly. Then one day the admins started complaining that there was no
longer a challenge on the server, I replied "that is because anytime
someone
comes in better than you guys they get banned" needless to say that
practice
stopped.
Now, I am not saying that is the case here or in the big cs:s picture but
I
think it merits some thought.
Since this mailing list is really for servers and help with servers (and
this thread doesn't belong here) I will post some relevant content.
Steambans: plug in for source/non servers, compares players steam ids to a
global database of cheaters and bans if player is in the database.
Requires
no work by admins other than installation.
http://www.steambans.com/
Autoban: another automated server plug in, it has anti wallhack and anti
antiflash features as well as an aimbot tracking tool. Be warned some
people
have issues with this and it is in beta.
* Bans right away, no manual intervention necessary
* Server-side only plugin, nothing to run or install on the client
* Aimbot detection
* Wallhacking prevention
* Speedhack detection
* No-recoil and low-recoil detection
* No-spread and low-spread detection
* No-flash prevention
* Completely configurable
http://www.wravens-nest.com/
Vac2: we know what this is.
Beetlesmod: I am not sure that the anti cheat portion of the server plug
in
is even updated anymore but it will at least catch people who get the
older
versions and can't hurt.
http://www.beetlesmod.com/forums/
If anyone knows of any other anti-cheat tools for source I would love to
hear about them. Maybe we have to react to the cheaters and as such it may
seem as if they are winning, but don't lay down and die for them!

I've being playing CS:S pretty much since it was released, and I've
rarely
ever seen cheats. Perhaps I never notice them or may as an admin they're
easier to spot (I'm only a player).

On my listen server(sorry ded server guys, but I need help) everyone gets
kicked after about 1 minute of playing. It tells me that "Client
Disconnected"
I'm not kicking them and I'm the only admin logged in. This is on my CS:S,
CS:CZ, HL2DM, and CS servers. All of which use AMXX or Mani Admin Plugin.
Is there something that I'm doing wrong? Everything is default except
sv_lan
which is set to 0 always. This also happens in Garry's Mod.

Re: [hlds] Re: DoD:D Server Files?

2005-09-28 Thread Dagok

mp_winlimit does not end the game based on flag captures.

It ends the game based on ROUNDS won. Maybe that is what you meant by "full
caps", but I've seen alot of people saying it's flag captures, which it
isnt. I have my server set to 7 round wins, or 45min, whichever comes
first.

The STEAM version doesn't exist! Take a real look at it, all it is, is a

it
doesn't work. They have not released the server files in any form yet.
And
at this point its likely to be a total mad had if they come out.

I think we are looking at DOD:S only being playable in single person mode

[hlds] suicide with world crash

2005-09-24 Thread Dagok

The crash does not retain logs from the game in the logs folder when this is
occuring. I luckilly had HLSW running and it automatically saves the
console to a log file. There are no error messages, the last line on both
logs is a - suicide with "world".

Has anyone else experienced this? I can't see how it would be plugin
related, but I am running Mani Plugin 1.1.0za, Mattie's EventScripts
0.9.1.0 , LastManStanding 2.5, counter-bet-menu 1.3 and Vweegit's
Pickpocket 1.2.

I just talked to one of the admins who was on the server at 12:25pm PST and
said he was on de_dust2 playing against 1 bot. He planted the bomb and when
it blew, he died from it, and the server crashed then too. So 3 committed
suicide with world have caused a crash.

Re: [hlds] Ack, new update doesn't like Mani

Doesnt matter at this point, even getting the server to run with the
plugin...using most admin functions in-game crashes the server. We have to
wait for a plugin update.

While I've never used the Mani stats (hlstats for me), I loved the
logging of admins Instead of renaming the directory, has anyone
tried just disabling the logging yet?

You dont need to disable Mani Stats, it works fine after you delete the
old files.

I just did the following:

1. Removed any player stats files
2. Removed the mani logs directory
3. Turned off the stats features and separate logging functions
  in mani_server.cfg
4. Restarted

It seems to be running properly now. I've got one server as a regular
CS:S running Mani Admin Plugin v1.1.0y and a CS:S Zombie server running
Mani Admin Plugin v1.1.0p, and both seem to be working, minus the stats
and logging.

Bummer. I gave that a try and it got further in the startup than

Well I don't know anything about this Spec bug he is refering to, but how
about a fix for the other First Person PoV bug where the camera drops to
crouch height?

This happens alot, where you press crouch then bump into something,
release button and the model stands up, but the camera doesnt move with
it. This also happens just if you are running along at standing height
and bump into walls or objects and your camera just drops to crouch
height.

In both cases pressing jump or crouch will return the camera to proper
position. If this is related to the Spec camera bug I do not know.
This bug has existed for a long time now, 3 or 4, maybe even 5 months.
There has been plenty of complaints about it on the Steam forums and I'm
sure you have received Bug Reports ingame regarding it.

So can we please get a status on this problem? I think alot of people
expected it to be fixed with the big update on Wednesday...and
unfortunately it was not.

I always enjoy watching how when someone decides to attack someone's email
posting style, it ends up generating at least 20 additional emails (mine
now
makes 21) about what they are trying to get rid of. Like several have
said,
these things can be handled directly with the person, or by using the
simple
rules filters. People just love to abuse other people.

I am amused most by the fact that Sandy linked an image to a website that
won't come up for me to enjoy: www.oldtimersclan.con/LOD/hotmail.jpg[1]
maybe the con should really have been a .com ?? LOL! This just
illustrates
that we should go easy on our senior citizens in these HLDS email lists.

People appear to be being banned from vacbeta enabled servers... To me,
this would be the logical conclusion of the testing cycle (you have to
test that it actually works, right?). Hopefully, they find no issues, and
can implement the update that enables VAC2 by default, along with the
first round of bans very soon now...

There have been discussions of bugs, but I've yet to see anyone from Valve
make that comment in the last 24 hours, which is when I believe when the
bans started going into effect.

Like what? You kidding? Just look at the reply below. It is filling in
all of the header info everytime you respond. Plus we don't need your
advertisment regarding MintMail.
Pretty sure there is an option to turn off header info in replies in Hotmail
as I dont get it from anyone else using Hotmail.

Re: [hlds] Status of VAC2 Beta

2005-06-13 Thread Dagok

What you are describing is from servers running Mani Admin Plugin or
BeetleFarts plugin.
They added a rudimentary detection for the common HLH hack by sending the
client cvar commands that are known to be used to execute the cheat.
So when the cvar is successfull it knows that person has a cheat installed
and then based on the setting it can ban them automatically.

So its really nothing to worry about.

I am interested to know if there will be any client side protection in
VAC2, as this is something I am becoming increasingly concerned with.

Just yesterday one of the servers outside of my management which I
play on quite regularly came to sending me a pile of cvar requests
(normal for some of the hack-check systems) then it sent me a pile
data which I cannot identify - followed by a console clear.

Now forgive me for my paranioa, but IMO this is the start of "Adware"
financed servers - PLEASE PROTECT THE CLIENTS FROM THE SERVERS TOO!!!

The dust is then sold to kitten litter manufacturers.

And it will be in the EULA that you agree to it.

People will stop cheating real fast.

Even if I knew VAC2 would only catch 1/10 of cheaters I will welcome it!

Re: [hlds] Status of VAC2 Beta

2005-06-12 Thread Dagok

The Steam News update back in March specifically said...
"we will be logging cheating violations into our database to make sure it's
ready for general release. "

http://www.steampowered.com/Steam/Marketing/Mar25.2005/

Since they updated HL1 code last week to prepare for the release of VAC2,
I'd expect to see VAC2 released by the end of the month.

Yeah, that'd be what I thought after the "Imminently" line, but that

That, and I'm fairly sure I remember seeing Alfred comment that cheat

Not knowing if Valve are aware of the POV problem in CSS, I'm submitting this

I've seen plenty of examples of the POV problems before, but most of them have

This website has screens that show exactly the problem that currently exsists.

Alfred, any comment? Is this known? Is it being worked on?

Re: [hlds] VALVe hide our sv_downloadurl paths!

2005-06-06 Thread Dagok

I think the initial request has gotten lost in the thread.

When people are in-game they can type sv_downloadurl and it shows them the
download URL which they can then copy and add to their own server.cfg

Yes there are ways of blocking others from downloading from that URL , but
it would be nice if sv_downloadurl showed ** instead of the URL to the
public.

And bam, already done. Each request from Source clients to your web
server contains the following line:
Referer: hl2://

You should be able to use some kind of apache plugin to act upon this
information.

[hlds] VALVe hide our sv_downloadurl paths!

2005-06-06 Thread Dagok
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
This was posted on the Source DS (Windows) team forums. POsting it here in
hopes that it will get directly to Valve.

"ok a little problem is people being able to just type sv_downloadurl in
console and steal our links and use it on there server stealing our bandwith.

I think valve should hide this when someone types it"

Yes there are ways for people to setup htaccess etc so only they can use the
folder. But it sure would be nice if typing sv_downloadurl in the console
would return "**" like sv_password and rcon_password do.

Can you please pass this along Alfred?

thanks,

Re: [hlds] Re: Questions about Tic rate

2005-06-03 Thread Dagok

Well you need to find servers where you trust the admin.
I've never used the Client Commands to do anything malicious, although I
know there are admins out there that do and take pride in it.
To avoid potential abuse only myself and one other admin on my server has
the ability to do this anyways.

Most of the people with bad rate settings don't bother to change their "net
connection" in the options and so they get 56k (or worse) rate settings by
default.
Others are intentionally dropping their rates so they do appear jitter and
warp to throw off other players.

But hey if the below server commands worked the way they should then I
wouldnt need to use the Client Commands at all.

This is why I have my .cfg's write protected, because I dislike people
doing
anything to my setups.
Have a look at all the posts in the steam forums of admin totalling
peoples
.cfg's just for fun or reprisal.
Another reason why admin mods are bloated and down right dangerous.

I wonder if you could have a case for the judicial system if you could
prove
that an admin altered something on your computer without consent?
Especially if the MOTD did not mention such things may happen as a
provision
of playing on said server.

However, these rate values don't work in forcing a client to use them. At
least in my experience.

In my server.cfg I have:

sv_maxrate 2
sv_minrate 1
sv_maxupdaterate 50
sv_minupdaterate 30

If I see people lagging (jittering) while moving, I will run ma_rates and
I
get rates displayed for people as low as 2500 and as high as 3.

I have Client Commands setup in Mani Admin Plugin to change their rates
for
those people and once I do they stop lagging.

It would be nice if these settings actually worked in the server.cfg.

Re: [hlds] Re: Questions about Tic rate

2005-06-02 Thread Dagok

However, these rate values don't work in forcing a client to use them. At
least in my experience.

In my server.cfg I have:

sv_maxrate 2
sv_minrate 1
sv_maxupdaterate 50
sv_minupdaterate 30

If I see people lagging (jittering) while moving, I will run ma_rates and I
get rates displayed for people as low as 2500 and as high as 3.

I have Client Commands setup in Mani Admin Plugin to change their rates for
those people and once I do they stop lagging.

It would be nice if these settings actually worked in the server.cfg.

BTW, does anybody know what Eric really meant when he said in
http://www.valve-erc.com/srcsdk/general/multiplayer_networking.html at the
end of the 2nd paragraph under *Basic Networking*
"Also the server admin can limit the data and snapshot rate values
requested by clients with *sv_maxrate, sv_maxupdaterate* and *

Is one of those supposed to be sv_minupdaterate?
Thanks

You want constructive? STFU and make AVI files out of the demo's before CSS
is patched.

You've already been told this but obviously don't care to listen. You
probably won't listen to this either, so I'm probably wasting my time.

I think everyone is getting tired of your whiney BS. We are all in the same
boat here when it comes to demo's being incompatible after patches. You

You guys have no idea how our system works
EVERY CHEAT has a demo which can be reviewed at ANY TIME if they ever
query
why they were banned.
This is how we keep transparancy and accountability for the bans we put in
place.
You might do things differently, thats you call on your servers. On our
servers we require demos for permanent cheat bans, end of story.
I've explained why several times now, and so far nobody has offered
anything contructive in way of solution, and saying smart arse comments
like
"why you want to keep demos for 5 years" just means your a fucktard troll
with too much time on their hands, who has no answer.
If you don't have the answer for a question, just stfu.

Instaban, both ID and IP. If it turns out to be a regular goofing

well then I just hopefully got rid of a major annoyance.

I use the name banning plugins for AMXx and have 'em look for the g0ts

'em being there. Sometimes, they'll come in without the tag, but I
noticed they'll usually put it back on before causing trouble.

Why is there no way to turn of auto-switch when you walk over a gun or
some
ammo?

And no, i'm not talking about hud_fastswitch that appears in the advanced
settings under the keyboard options.

auto-switch is *really* annoying when you're in the middle of a fire fight
with someone and then it automatically changes weapon to a gun with no
ammo,
and starts to reload it, at which point you get killed.

Is someone at valve working on fixing this?

Thanks,
