Subject: [hlds_linux] Counter-Strike: Source Beta Updated

A required update to the Counter-Strike: Source is now available. The
specific changes include:

- Fixed a bug where the player crouching/standing animations were
delayed until after (from the player's local viewpoint).
- Changed the way that scope zooming works so that it is no longer
affected by client-server latency, and zooming begins immediately for
the local player. This fixes an issue that would give an advantage to
lower ping players and penalize higher ping players.
- Fixed animation problem caused by aborting bomb plant by switching
weapons (crab walk).
- Crosshairs now have customizable size, thickness, and color:
- cl_crosshairsize specifies the size of the crosshair in pixels
at 640x480 resolution
- cl_crosshairthickness specifies the thickness of the crosshair
in pixels at 640x480 resolution
- The crosshair now scales proportionately for all screen
resolutions. This replaces the old scaling behavior, and the cvar
cl_crosshairscale is no longer used. Players can revert to old crosshair
behavior by setting cl_legacy_crosshair_scale to 1.
- Setting cl_crosshaircolor to 5 enables the use of custom
crosshair colors, specified by cvars cl_crosshaircolor_r,
cl_crosshaircolor_g, and cl_crosshaircolor_b.
- The default of cl_crosshairuseapha has been changed to 1.
Alpha blending makes the crosshair much more visible on new HDR maps,
and it is recommended that existing players enable this setting manually
or through the options interface (Multiplayer-Crosshair
appearance-Translucent).
- Cvar cl_legacy_crosshair has been renamed to
cl_legacy_crosshair_recoil for consistency.
- Fixed inverted translucency preview on crosshair configuration panel.
- Removed the ability for players to temporarily stand on and jump from
thrown grenades and jumping players. Legacy behavior can be enabled by
setting sv_enableboost to 1.
- Fixed issue with players stacking on ladders. Players are no longer
prevented from moving off a ladder when they are in contact with a
player beneath them.
- Fixed UI issue causing Steam dialog boxes to be unreadable over
certain backgrounds.
- Fixed a bug which allowed players to move the bomb with +use when
sv_turbophysics was enabled.
- Fixed a bug that caused crosshair to expand when attempting to fire an
empty gun or when holding trigger on pistols.
- Players are no longer kicked for team killing during
mp_spawnprotectiontime if mp_autokick is not enabled.
- Fixed a bug which caused incorrect FoV on zoomed sniper rifles after
reload.
- Fixed FoV on wide-screen display modes.
- Fixed a bug which caused incorrect zoom for a spectator watching a
player with a sniper rifle.
- Fixed a crash that could occur if a player disconnected shortly after
attacking a bot.
- Bomb icon now has priority over dominated/dominating icon on
scoreboard.
- Deathcam now allows a short period of camera movement (matching pre-OB
behavior) when a player dies.
- Bots now use distinct Terrorist and Counter-Terrorist icons on the
scoreboard, voice indicators, end of match, and freeze panel.
- The round clock on the spectator UI is now replaced with a bomb icon
after the C4 has been planted.
- Fixed a bug which caused models to occasionally appear non-animating
when cl_minmodels and low violence mode were both enabled.
- Fixed the Buy Menu not taking into account the discounted price for
Kevlar + Helmet if you already have Kevlar (not damaged) or a Helmet.
- Fixed cases where flashbang was not visible but still blinded the
player.
- Reduced blindness amount when looking away from a flashbang.
- Made smoke grenades block flashbangs.
- Changed the way ammo purchasing works. Details are here:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1406537
- Made another pass on fixing bugs and exploits in de_inferno. Details
are here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1428239
- Added a checkbox to the Options-Audio dialog to control muting the
audio when the game window is in the background.
- Fixed crash in custom maps using the trigger_camera entity.
- Fixed a crash that could occur if a player disconnected shortly after
attacking a bot

 changes include:

 - Reinstated ammo cost.
 - Added client ConVar cl_autobuyammo ( default 7 ) which determines how much
ammo to attempt to buy with guns.
1-7: The ammo buttons in the Buy menu are hidden.
ConCommands buyammo1 and buyammo2 are still active.
0: Ammo is not automatically purchased and the ammo buttons
in the Buy menu are visible. They now buy single ammo boxes.
 - De_Inferno bug and exploit fixes. See

2010-08-23 Thread Kyle Sanderson
- Fixed a memory leak in the dedicated server.

Which memory leak to be specific? It's hard to get it to happen, however to
a certain extent the memory leak with setting a clients listening flags
still exists in the OrangeBox engine that was there from Episode 1. I
thought it had dissappeared, however I was quickly proven wrong when I saw a
SRCDS instance taking over 3GB of memory, again.

Cheers,

 - Fixed a memory leak in the dedicated server.
 - Fixed a problem that could cause the crosshair to expand briefly after
 the trigger is released.
 - Made crosshair scale independently of framerate, matching the old
behavior at 100 fps. This does not affect actual recoil, fire rate, or
spread - only the expansion of the crosshair. Added cl_legacy_crosshair,
which defaults to the new behavior.
 - Made the crosshair for the Glock and Famas scale correctly upon firing in
 burst mode.
 - Removed ability to jump to inaccessible locations using grenades
(flashboosting). Added sv_enableboost (defaulted to 0) for those who prefer
 to allow this behavior.
 - Fixed an issue with involving incorrect armor protection vs. grenade
damage. Added sv_legacy_grenade_damage (defaulted to 0) to allow servers to
 revert to the original behavior.
 - Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the freezecam sound to be heard when
 spectating a player who dies.
 - Fixed an issue that could cause KeyHintText to generate junk characters.
 - Prevented ragdoll spasm that could occur when using the jointeam command.
 - Addressed a problem with the sniper rifles that prevented unzooming
during auto-reload after shooting all the bullets in a clip.
 - Fixed an issue with the AWP and Scout that could cause their zooms to
 vibrate briefly after a reload.
 - Fixed map cycling so that the cycle now starts from the map selected by
the user instead of going back to the first map.
 - Fixed mp_restartgame so that it resets MVPs as well as score and deaths.
 - Removed fun fact from achievements summary screen and associated
 playerblotter functionality.
 - Throttled warning messages for disabled achievements to no more than once
 every 60 seconds.
 - Made disconnect messages wrap so they don't get truncated.
 - Made kick / disconnect messages more legible.
 - Made the silhouette that appears when you hit AUTO-SELECT on the
Terrorist choose a class screen fit within its borders.
 - Made the 'X' that closes the achievements screen visible by default in
 1280x720 resolution.
 - Fixed lock radar rotation option in the GUI. Setting this option now
 works.
 - Fixed a buffer overrun exploit that could be used to attack/crash
 servers.
 - Fixed a crash at startup when no sound emitter scripts were loaded.
 - Smoke grenades:
- fixed occlusion bug.
- made it bigger.
- reduced grenade elasticity.
 - De_Inferno
-fixed known exploits and bugs.

Indeed. Aimbots in particular totally ruin the game for people that want
to play fair, and nothing will clear a server out faster, often before you
even get a chance as an admin to get rid of them. We can detect or
prevent a lot of things with various scripts and plugins (and with varying
degrees of success), but there is still no real, effective aimbot
detection available for most Valve games.

It seems to me that a party (Valve) with true unfettered access to the
internals of the game engine on both client and server side, would be in
the best position to create ways to catch aimbots in use that minimize
load on the server. If there was one thing I could ask for from the Valve
developers, this would be it.

However preventing clients from loading plugins, etc. should be a big help
and a good start, if it works.

cheers,
PharaohsPaw

Actually, from what I can recall. You cannot make an Aimbot with LSS in it's
current public state. Sure there are trigger bots which are close, however
you cannot actually make an Aimbot. The rest rely on cvar exploitation,
which hopefully VAC will catch onto since it is an external application.

Cheers,
Kyle.

I heard that KAC can stop LUA users. I still agree that plugins should
have been disallowed on public servers a LONG time ago, and hopefully
Valve does work to block this. All plugins need to be stripped off
clients when they connect to a public server, unless server is running

About wall-hackers, I disagree on. If you use anything other than
sv_pure 2 or 1 (with just a few whitelisted files (2 is the best in my
opinion, and works for me)) on a public server, you're never going to
stop simple material hackers. I do not condone material wall-hackers,
but there already exists a fix to stop them (being sv_pure). If they use
a bypasser to get past sv_pure 1/2, they will get VAC banned.

At the moment, this is not the case Harry. Using the valve.rc method, no
client plugins can be prevented from being loaded. LSS can force cvars to be
whatever the client chooses them to be (Just like SourceMod, or any other
plugin for that matter). This is including mat_wireframe (or whatever the
cvar is), which would enable wall hacks. I haven't tried this personally,
however I'm assuming you could do the same for sv_pure.

Cheers,
Kyle.

I was saying the more common wall-hack methods (material hacks) are
currently stoppable with an already made command. But the other plugins?
I don't know, and it's a shame they are currently not stopped by Valve.

I am just saying that material hackers are already stoppable, and that
Valve should NOT turn CS:S into L4D2; the majority of L4D2 players use
official servers, which is not the case with CS:S. If a server admin
wants to block material hacks, they can in CS:S (l4D2's official servers
disallow all addons, which material hackers use for L4D2, along with
editing the vpks). I understand why all custom content is banned on
official L4D2 servers, and I hope the same does not happen to CS:S
(though I WANT the custom addons/plugins banned, or at least have a
server cvar where the server admin can block them).

Re: [hlds_linux] COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE BETA

2010-05-11 Thread EkaInfinitos
This sounds interesting. I wonder if the player stats viewable and/or
exclusive to the particular server or if they will reside in the Steam
Community a la DOD:S and L4D. I would like to be able to browse through the
server stats via the server itself, but something tells me I'll have to
stick with HLStatsXCE for that functionality.

Regardless, I'm about to install this beta release. I'm into pain.

My guess is that you can install the beta release on top of an existing CS:S

I'll give it a try and let you know.

Re: [hlds_linux] COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE BETA

2010-05-11 Thread clad iron
hmm.. odd.

when i installed the server, the cstrike_beta folder was outside of the
orangebox folder.
i understand this is beta, but this almost look nothing like a normal server
install directory structure.
lots of folders either missing or move, it's 1 or the other.

I created a folder in the orangebox folder called cstrike_beta, then a cfg
folder , then server.cfg. the only other folders that are in there are the
bin and hl2.
When the server starts there are few errors but i just assumed it was do to
it have somethings still broke or a work in progress.
after the server is started , it says it's vac secured.
status in the console gives normal info (other than it not reading the
server.cfg for hostname, ect..)
seems +fps_max in the command line isn't working either. setting it to 0
or 900 shows fps around 92. my other test servers (tf2 / dods) show 900+

Re: [hlds_linux] COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE BETA

2010-05-11 Thread 1nsane
It seems that Valve has limited resources to spend on game development,
they're a large publisher now as well.

The people working on the CS:S beta are already overwhelmed when it comes to
bug reports/keeping track of responses on the forum.

Having 10's of thousands extra players won't make it any easier for them.

Ah, it's good to have a beta for a change, thanks!

Any approximate guess when this will go final? Also, any chance
mp_dynamicpricing could be exported with A2S_RULES?

Win32:
./hldsupdatetool -command update -game cstrike_beta -dir .

Linux:
./steam -command update -game cstrike_beta -dir .

Add to your cmd line:-binary ./srcds_i486

Re: [hlds_linux] Counter-Strike: Source Beta Release

2004-08-19 Thread ranger
hi,

i have last weekend upgrade my server to Debian3.1/Sarge.
The problem is, the CPU Usage at my CS 1.6 Servers and czero
are mit glibc 2.3 too high. 20-40% per Server(16 slots). With Debian Stable
and
glibc 2.2 only 1%-20% with the same kernel. I habe conpiled my own
gameserverkernel.
Afte editing the /etc/apt/sources.list and an ap-get update and apt-get
dist-upgrade a have glibc 2.3. Thats not the problem. The problem
is then the high cpu usage with glibc 2.3 !!!
With Debian 3.0 i can run 3 16 Slots CS1.6/Czero without problems on a
XP 2800+ and 1 GB RAM. at 100-200 serverfps.

thx

2004-08-19 Thread Scott Pettit
Don't use the 2.6.x kernels if you want to keep the 1.6/czero server CPU
usage down, 2.6.x kernels have HZ=1000 which effectively puts pingboost
3 on.

I'd go back to Sarge, and compile 2.4.26 as your kernel.

Interesting, I haven't tried comparing it myself.

I guess you need to work out the opportunity cost and then decide
whether to keep running a beta server or stick with what you have :)

Re: [hlds_linux] Counter-Strike: Source Beta Release

2004-08-19 Thread Michael Madsen
When I type status in the console it shows nearly all players (within
NZ) as having around 140ms or so pings, even though I asked them and
they said their scoreboard pings show at about 60.

Maybe this has something to do with it?

I've got the same problem here.

#1
Serverside: ping : 109 ms
User reports: 30-40ms

#2
Serverside: 109ms
User reports: approx 50ms

What's up with this?

Re: [hlds_linux] Counter-Strike: Source Beta server available

2004-08-16 Thread mosca
Alfred, any news when the ATI coupon/CZ owner will be allowed to fill my
idle srcds?
I wonder if the dates that are being posted on the steampowered.com foruns
are right. (preload 08/16 and gameplay 08/18)

The Counter-Strike: Source Beta dedicated server (SRCDS) is now
available to both win32 and linux server operators. This should give
server administrators enough time to have enough servers up and running
before the release to Condition Zero and ATI coupon customers next week.

You can download the update tool from
 http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow or copy your
existing hldsupdate binary into a clean directory. To get your server up
 and running, use this syntax:

update binary -command update -game Counter-Strike Source -dir .
 -username your_username -password password

 For example:
Hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game Counter-Strike Source -dir .
 -username valve -password valve

The quotes around Counter-Strike Source are important.

Do not install the SRCDS into an existing installation, the two will
 interfere with each other.

This beta release designed to allow us determine any technical problems
in the product and to allow dedicated server operators to evaluate the
program. The beta release of the SRCDS (and only the SRCDS) is freely
available to any steam user via the update tool (you do not need to be
 an CZ or ATI user).

As part of the beta process please report any bug and suggestions to
this list. During the beta we will be continually updating a page on
http://www.steampowered.com/ with the current list of known issues (I
will pass on the URL for it later today).

they even predict a time that says ok, preloading starts at this exact
