It can store the client certificate in its own store or use personal certificates from the Microsoft store. The easiest way is to use the browser to import the certificate into the MS personal certificate store then, configure BlueZone to use it (check box). At connect time, the user is prompted for the client certificate private key password prior to the client sending it to the mainframe. If you are using a FIPS configured workstation, and BlueZone is configured to run in FIPS mode, the algorithm used to sign the client certificate must also be FIPS compliant or BlueZone will display an error when attempting to open the private key with the password. That said, you should not be able to import a non-FIPS compliant certificate into a FIPS enabled workstation's certificate store, so it should not be an issue. Mike The regular z/OS Configuration Guide has a 35 page chapter with the title Security in Part 1 and a 199 page chapter with the title IP Security in Part 2. I was using the z/OS V1R9 manual. ... is anyone using it? The customer with which I am working at the moment is using it - a lot. ... how good is it? It works very well. The older folk like the statements but the younger folk like the GUI tool and say it is just like configuring a more traditional firewall with which, because this is the sort of thing to which students of networking are exposed these days, they are familiar. Strangely enough, because of a revision of the structure of the network in the vicinity of the mainframes, this customer is using IP Security to replace a real, traditional, old-fashioned firewall. A tip: you should use the OSA NONROUTER function also as part of your firewall armoury but try to remember you used it when someone comes along and says Oh, I forgot to tell you about that particular application that lives here - pointing to a diagram - and so needs a bit of routing from this LPAR Just fixing the IP Security statements didn't work! I can see it might be disruptive to increase the MAXSYS value if you need to add a system in and MAXSYS would prevent you. Re: Sysplex MAXSYS - Impact Of Under- Or Over-Specifying
The MAXSYS value used for signal list structure allocation comes from the MAXSYS value used to format the sysplex Couple Data Set. Overspecification, such as specifying oh say 32 for a sysplex that has only 4 systems is more likely to impact I/O times for the CDS and perhaps the memory to back control blocks that XCF and exploiters construct for all the systems that could possibly be in the sysplex. As to the signal list structure per se, XCF will allocate the list structure with enough list headers to allow for full signalling connectivity among the anticipated N systems, which as you have observed, amounts to N*(N-1) + 8 list headers. An overspecification of N simply means that space in the structure is consumed by list headers won't get used. That is space that could have been used for signals. Except possibly for cases where the structure size is too small and/or it cannot be allocated at the desired size due to space constraints in the CF, this is largely a non-issue. It would only matter if the structure becomes constrained for space. You could also find that the health checker will issue complaints. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

Several popular characters on ours were repeatedly being replaced. IBM suggested some slug graphic combos that would result in them having to replace fewer slugs as a consequence of combining the popular characters on a smaller number of slugs. But they wanted us to pay an RPQ charge up front for the special slug graphic config. But the director balked so IBM kept replacing the slugs at their expense. Did the HASP newsletter suggest strong a modified UCS image under the name of the stock image? YES ... and NO. It was presented as a mod (not as a new addition, or a completely new train [UCS image]). So that part was the YES. But clearly you could use the same cards at a different sequence number to add an additional UCS image ... so that part was the NO. The purpose of the illustration was not lost on those who did that (HASP mods) for a living. IBM didn't need to rub the point in. To avoid confusion, most shops that had modified 1403 or 3211 print trains modified ALL of their trains and not just some of them. So, it was convenient to have all printers set to load the so-called PN train UCS image, even though the bytes in their PN image were not the same as an original, unmodified PN UCS image. What most folks called a PN or TN UCS image was, in fact, their own, customized (and possibly unique) UCS image. Sometimes they were not unique. When our competitor across the street (literally) heard what we did at a user's group meeting, I just gave them the slug charts and cards (literally) to define its corresponding UCS image. They just ordered the same RPQ slugs from IBM, in exactly the same sequence on their trains, and, of course, used my UCS image (mods). When I looked at a shop's HASP mods, I usually saw that they had modified the existing UCS images. I hardly ever found one that added a new UCS image by some new (but similar) name. UCS image names were 2 characters long (typically), so it was hard to come up with something else that the operators would get familiar and be happy with. No, but I'd like some evidence that they said it. Well, since one of they is ME, I offer myself into evidence, your honor. I don't have recordings of old conversations from the late 1960s, however, to prove anything. Hi Jimmy, Neither MEMLIMIT which control access to above the bar storage or CSA which is COMMON storage below and above the 16M line are going to help here. You are running out of PRIVATE storage probably above the 16M line or Extended Private Storage (EPVT). This is probably happening in your TSO address space. Actually, this is covered in the reference manual, as it states that all but the first will be processed for allocation purposes (new data sets will be allocated and the DISP parameter will be honored) but only the first will actually be merged into the PROC DD. Empirically, that seems to be true. But I don't see where it says so in the RM. The governing section would seem to be: 5.2.1.2 z/OS V1R9.0 MVS JCL Reference Coding an Overriding OUTPUT JCL or DD Statement To override, nullify, or add parameters to a procedure OUTPUT JCL or DD statement, code in the name field of the overriding OUTPUT JCL or DD statement the name of the procedure step containing the overridden statement, followed by a period, followed by the name of the procedure OUTPUT JCL statement or the ddname of the procedure DD statement. //pstepname.name OUTPUT parameters //pstepname.ddname DD parameters I don't see an explicit only the first here, so it might equally be read that all overriding DD statements with the name of an overriden statement will be merged with that statement. Likewise, I see nothing in 12.1.2 or 12.1.6 that states that only the first will override. I take the statement: 12.1.2 z/OS V1R9.0 MVS JCL Reference 12.1.2 Name Field When specified, code a ddname as follows: * Each ddname should be unique within the job step. If duplicate ddnames appear in a job step, processing is as follows: + In a JES2 system: The system performs device and space allocation and disposition processing for both DD statements; however, it directs all references to the first DD statement in the step. to govern the use of DD statements appearing in the step, not the overriding dd statements. -- gil -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

Re: Share Attendance
There used to always be an IBM-MAIN table at SCIDS. I think it had disappeared last time I was there. ... I heard SHARE requested it be disbanded because only SHARE projects or programs were allowed official tables. This may have happened when SCIDS was replaced by Meet the Projects. Rumors are fun to read. As with anything you read or hear, check the facts. Being a little closer to the truth - SHARE never really had tables, Projects and Programs had a volunteer who carted the banner and method to keep it upright to and from the conference. If a Project did not bring a banner then they had no banner. Over time, banners (flags) have been extended to include a card for Rexx, a dinosaur, a spider, and some other variations. Somewhere before my time, the MVS SCP Project was carting the IBM-MAIN banner (flag) and stand and the MVS banner and stand. In my time we discussed coming up with something lighter and newer. Then the volunteer who had it, left it home since we were still talking about the redesign. So when it wasn't brought to one conference, no one seemed to notice, and we just stopped bringing it. No one at SHARE asked us to stop putting it up as far as I know. More recently we learned the company that supports SHARE in running the user group was sheparding banners for other projects and the MVS banner is now handled in this fashion. We still have our own stand. IBM-MAIN is sitting in someone's house. A few years back, SHARE started a Meet the Projects Reception and prints a poster card for each Project that is willing to 'staff' the table on Sunday night. That card is not put on tables, projects still need their own thingy. And where Projects were supposed to pick up their own thingy from the HQ room on Sunday afternoon, or bring it to the conference, the staff are now putting them up on Sunday. MVS SCP then handles taking down the MVS banner each night and setting it up at the next reception. After Thursday it goes back in a case, off to Chicago, and shows up at the next conference. Trying to get one volunteer to take it home worked while they made it to the next conference. If they could not, then they had to ship it someone who thought they would be going. That ws getting tricky, so letting it go with the cases of conference stuff back to Chicago is working quite well. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: Sysplex MAXSYS - Impact Of Under- Or Over-Specifying
In addition to what Mark said: Overspecification, such as specifying oh say 32 for a sysplex that has only 4 systems is more likely to impact I/O times for the CDS and perhaps the memory to back control blocks that XCF and exploiters construct for all the systems that could possibly be in the sysplex. Re: COBOL subroutine(s) for batch outgoing SOAP
John McKown asks: Does anybody know of a product which would allow a COBOL batch program to send a SOAP request to another server? Roland Schiradin replies: 1. DB2 Webservice function 2. plain TCP/IP socket calls 3. CICS Exci. I don't generally recommend option #2. It's usually too much work in this era, both now and for ongoing maintenance. And it really doesn't apply here anyway (unless you're truly masochistic), because SOAP generally flows over HTTP(S) or MQ transports. By option #3 I think you (also) mean via SOAP for CICS (CICS Transaction Server V2.2 or 2.3) or CICS Web services (CICS Transaction Server V3.x). This prereqs CICS of course. There are lots of options. Three more that I can think of include: * WebSphere Message Broker * WebSphere Transformation Extender * IMS SOAP Gateway V10.1 or higher (prereqs IMS TM V10 or higher): You can also roll your own using Enterprise COBOL and the IBM HTTP Server for z/OS or WebSphere MQ for z/OS, but that's more in the direction of option #2 (i.e. more work than you probably ought to do). If you absolutely insist on this path, it's easier with SOAP over MQ than with SOAP over HTTP -- the coding is simpler because the transport takes care of more.
