John, I will certainly miss you and your wisdom. I regard you in the same area
as Walter Farrell (RACF) and John Erhman (Assembler).

About all your good posts here, you were to me like that "Babel fish" (in The
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). Everything you said was very understandable
and informative as well educational. Who will now replace you and educate all
of us on IBM-MAIN?

You must enjoy your wisdom and all your hobbies. May God bless you and your
family on your new journey.

Thanks again!

Re: APAR OA56589 for DFDSS DUMP of ZFS

2018-12-12 Thread Jesse 1 Robinson
IBM is still working on a fix for OA56589, but we have validated that
unmounting all but the one SERVICE-only ZFS set being managed allows it to be
migrated successfully, that is dumped and restored elsewhere in the enterprise.
In other words, the actual problem that motivated our SR--leading to
OA56589--can be circumvented. Level 2 says that the 'orphan VSAM' error can
occur in other circumstances and so will provide a fix, but we are good in the
meantime.

I don't know the extent of the fix. The APAR is still steaming off the press.
It's not just same name; it's the use of PATH to distinguish one ZFS from
another by HLQ. In the days of HFS, we used alias. We had to change to PATH
because of the VSAMishness of ZFS.

Re: ZFS RECORG=FS

2018-12-12 Thread Lizette Koehler
So I went into ISMF Test function.

On the field where the RECORG is specified I placed the CURSOR

I entered FS and it came back as an INVALID ENTRY

I then hit the PF1 Key - It stated on KS, RR, LS, ES or blanks are allowed.

Was this copied from SAMPLIB(ISPBTCH)?

Wouldn't it be useful if IBM supplied the core of this as a PROCLIB or JCLLIB
member to be imbedded in both ISPBTCH and TSO LOGON procs, possibly
customized by sites, so users could have similar environments for both
batch and interactive ISPF without tedious code copying?

(Does IBM distribute anything as JCLLIB members nowadays? Perhaps with
specific program products?)

For an application API, consider CVAF (or DADSM) -- these services have been
around for decades; handles dynamic configuration changes, pinned UCBs, and the
like. As for "catalog information", likely need to interrogate reading BCS,
VVDS components and post-process results for correlation, while also need to
consider "shared" vs "dedicated" device configuration scenario (i.e., duplicate
information handling).

Re: SFTP between AIX to Mainframe

2018-12-12 Thread Kirk Wolf
Venkat,

The reason for this can be found clearly hidden in the z/OS OpenSSH User's
Guide, CH 4:

By default, sftp assumes that files are binary. Files transferred between
EBCDIC and ASCII platforms are not converted.
...
By default, scp performs ASCII/EBCDIC conversion on files. For more
information about how scp performs conversion, see Chapter 7,
“Globalization on z/OS systems,” on page 55.

This is because IBM implemented z/OS SCP incorrectly.

SCP on z/OS treats all data as character data and does ASCII/EBCDIC
translation on it.

You have to use SFTP on z/OS to transfer binary data.

Friday, 14 December 2018, will be my last day at IBM. For the curious,
I started on a Wednesday, 1 June 1977, so it will be 41 years, 6 months
since I started as a CE in the local Poughkeepsie branch office.

It's time to shed the daily stress, devote more time to my hobbies
(diving, amateur radio, metalworking, cycling), and find a place in the
County that can use an active volunteer for however many hours I feel
like working (if any).

I won't be able to get notes on my IBM e-mail address after about noon
Friday. I also won't get phone messages after that time at my work
phone number, because they arrive as e-mail attachments.

Hanging out here has been quite instructive and usually fun (smile), so:
Thanks, folks.

All the best, everyone.

Re: ZFS RECORG=FS

Well, the DFSMS manual states that RECORG=FS is valid. Once again, this issue
is in creating a test case in ISMF; have not tried it in JCL.

Note -

You cannot code FS for an LS dataset. That will not work. zFS are Linear and
would use LS

I have never coded RECORG in any thing that uses zFS Files. Either during the
DEF LINEAR or when using then in JCL or other actions.

I am not sure why you want to use it for your process.

Please post the documentation that requires the use of RECORG for this process.

This does not make sense to me.

Re: ZFS RECORG=FS

2018-12-12 Thread Carmen Vitullo
I misunderstood, I read your question wrong, the ACS test case should be
created using
DSORG: VS
and prolly some HLQ standard name for your ZFS dataset names
I have my test case setup like

DESCRIPTION1:
TEST ZFS
DSN: OMVS.ZOSV2R1.SYST.MVSRST.CFZVAR
DSORG: VS
ACSENVIR: ALLOC
SIZE: 150
STORCLAS: OMVS
DEF_STORCLAS: OMVS
SPACE_TYPE: CYL
SECOND_QTY: 5
VOL: 01

so I used more than just the DSORG to direct ZFS to the correct storage pool

2018-12-12 Thread Hervey Martinez
We are not defining the files for conversion, we are just testing for proper
pool storage pool assignment.

After ACS updates, I was trying to test the changes via ISMF option 7.4 and
creating a test case; it would not let me use the FS for RECORG.

that's correct, defining as a LINEAR VSAM CL and then using the IOA format

IOEAGFMT -
converting from HFS to ZFS is not so bad using the utility I had posted
previously - no need to define the ZFS beforehand the utility will do this for
you

A zFS is a specially formatted VSAM LDS. How are you creating the ZFS?

Hervey Martinez wrote on 12/11/18 3:59 PM:

Working on HFS to ZFS conversion and the DFSMS manual for zos 2.3 mentions the
RECORG=FS to be used for ZFS files.

In creating a test case in ISMF, it does not recognize this parm and it give an
error. i did add this to the ACS routines and we are able to allocate a ZFS and
convert an HFS to ZFS.

Any idea how to correct this RECORG=FS?

Did you include the keyword LINEAR in your VSAM Define of the zFS?

Actually there are tools provided to convert HFS to zFS.

1) Please show Vsam Define statements

2) Please show how you formatted the zFS

3) Please show the messages you get when the RECORG is not recognized - do not
filter the output but mask shop proprietary information

Subject: Thanks For All the Fish

Friday, 14 December 2018, will be my last day at IBM. For the curious, I
started on a Wednesday, 1 June 1977, so it will be 41 years, 6 months since I
started as a CE in the local Poughkeepsie branch office.

It's time to shed the daily stress, devote more time to my hobbies (diving,
amateur radio, metalworking, cycling), and find a place in the County that can
use an active volunteer for however many hours I feel like working (if any).

I won't be able to get notes on my IBM e-mail address after about noon Friday.
I also won't get phone messages after that time at my work phone number,
because they arrive as e-mail attachments.

Hanging out here has been quite instructive and usually fun (smile), so:
Thanks, folks.

All the best, everyone.

I don't recall any DFSMS conversion routine, there is a rexx exec to convert
HFS to ZFS
this can be run via TSO interactive (ISPF) BPXWH2Z with no parameters and it
will prompt for files and parm
or this can be run batch
make sure either way the SYS1.SBPXEXEC is part of your SYSEXEC DD

I am not sure, but see if HercPrt can do what you want. Set up a
printer to a TCP/IP address and port and set your HercPrt software to
receive, then print the file to the printer.

Re: SFTP between AIX to Mainframe

2018-12-12 Thread venkat kulkarni
Hello Group,

We identified the issue and resolve it and the solution is, if we use SCP
to transfer file from AIX to Mainframe, data gets corrupt during
transmission.
But when we use SFTP to transfer file from AIX to Mainframe, this process
works perfectly.

I am unable to find reason, why SCP causing this issue. But problem has
been solved.
Thank you so much for helping always .

AW: Setting MAXMMAPAREA

You want to monitor ECSA usage (which you probably already do).

This function is something alike „selective common area data-in-virtual“. It
requires quite some ECSA storage to administer the virtual storage pages shared
between mmap() users. See „MVS Initialization & Tuning Guide - BMXPRMxx“ -
MAXMMAPAREA for details about how much ECSA is used.
