Operator Console

2009-07-20 Thread Martin, Terry R. (CMS/CTR) (CTR)
Hi

I have defined a ICC console (36B) I added this address in the System
Config as the console and specify it on the LOAD parameter at IPL time.
After the IPL operator was logged on to the ICC console without a
problem. I decided to logon to Operator HERE at my desk so it took it
away from 36B to me. Now I want to XAUTOLG OPERATOR ON 36B. When I try I
get the following error message:

HCPAUT051E GRAF 036B is not enabled

I display the device 36b and it says it is enabled:

q 36b

GRAF 036B ENABLED

Is this happening because I defined it as a console and I cannot
XAUTOLOG Operator? Any help would be welcome.

Thank You,

CMS is not very amenable to that sort of manipulation. When you invoke an
exec, the exec will seem to "disappear" from the normal command search
order. That is, if TEST EXEC contains
   address CMS "TEST"
it will get RC= -3.

So if you want to invoke an exec of the same name, you must explicitly use
the EXEC command. But if you want to avoid invoking the same exec, you
need to EXECLOAD the right one!

It also means that you have to know whether you're invoking an EXEC or a
MODULE. Well, you don't HAVE to, but that just means adding more code to
respond to the EXECLOAD failure.

IOCP EXEC:

/* This exec front-ends the IOCP EXEC on the S-disk */
arg parms
address Command
"EXECLOAD IOCP EXEC S"
"EXEC IOCP" parms
src = rc
if src = 0 then do
   /* whatever you want */
end
"EXECDROP IOCP"
exit src

That DIREXEC VMARC package should do exactly what you wish, and explains

Beware though, the default "address" will point to PIPE, what is no

Question to PAV on Minidisks

Now I link CLONSET 201 under another LINUX guest:

User Charlie has no PAV ALIASES for the linked devices.

Is it possible to get pav aliases also for linked minidisks?

I'm not sure why, but we have console devices that need a kick once in a while

Hi.

The MINIOPT PAVALIAS setting applies only to the one user. You'll have to
add a MINOPT PAVALIAS to the other users LINK statement to give that user

Re: Operator Console

Just a guess, but ---

The vary off/on sequence caused any kind of pending operation to be killed.
There may also be some kind of reset that is done in the process. Finally, it
caused the system to sense the device anew.

XAUTOLOG ON will give HCP051E for one of three reasons:
- ENABLE has not been issued for the device
- The device has an enable pending (i.e. waiting for the device to come
online)
- The device has an enable/disable in progress

QUERY only tells you if you have issued the ENABLE command. Like Marcy,
I suspect that the device was in Purgatory for some reason. If the
problem is reproducible, then I would open a PMR. I don't think you
should have to VARY OFF/ON before you ENABLE -- how rude.

CMS is not very amenable to that sort of manipulation. When you invoke
an
exec, the exec will seem to "disappear" from the normal command search
order. That is, if TEST EXEC contains
   address CMS "TEST"
it will get RC= -3.

So if you want to invoke an exec of the same name, you must explicitly
use
the EXEC command. But if you want to avoid invoking the same exec, you
need to EXECLOAD the right one!

It also means that you have to know whether you're invoking an EXEC or a

MODULE. Well, you don't HAVE to, but that just means adding more code
to
respond to the EXECLOAD failure.

IOCP EXEC:

/* This exec front-ends the IOCP EXEC on the S-disk */
arg parms
address Command
"EXECLOAD IOCP EXEC S"
"EXEC IOCP" parms
src = rc
if src = 0 then do
   /* whatever you want */
end
"EXECDROP IOCP"
exit src

OP said the device was 'ENABLE' following a 'CP QUERY'. So this could
very be the problem ! (I'm assuming the QUERY command simply looks at
the RDEVENAB in RDEVFLG in the RDEV block).

I kinda suspect a problem with the 'LOGIN HERE' which might have left
the device in an intermediate state.

I tried myself but couldn't reproduce it ! (either via LOGIN HERE or
FORCE followed by AUTOLOG .. ON ..).

Can a device be 'LOGOFF/FORCE PENDING' ? (never mind - self private joke
- I've had so many of those in my many years dealing with VM that I
couldn't resist - although this message applies to users, not GRAFs)..

What I'd be looking at to reproduce the problem would be to see if, in
your case, pressing enter - and getting the logo - changes anything -
as opposed to being shown the 'LOGOFF or DISCONNECT' message on the
problematic GRAF. Just in case it could make your relation with the ppl
handling the PMR easier !

Basically wondering if the device did clear properly the RDEV->VMDBK
relationship (since it is something I already encountered while trying
to do something similar under VM/SP a long time ago!)

(Geez.. I wish we still had the source code for all of this so we could
fix it ourselves !)

I'm not sure why, but we have console devices that need a kick once in a
while too, although ours are not ICC (something non-IBM). I figured it
was their fault, but maybe not... You could open a PMR; might be easier
for you with all IBM stuff in the mix.

Thank You,

Re: Question to PAV on Minidisks

2009-07-20 Thread Florian Bilek
Hello Steve,

Thanks for answering my question. I checked it out.
The MINIOPT after a LINK statement does not work as MINIOPT is according
to
the CP Planning and Administration guide an extension to the MDISK direct
ory
statement. Furthermore it cannot be coded in a PROFILE statement in the C
P
Directory.

The second option using a DEF PAVALIAS command from the directory seems t
o
work.

I think there should be an option in the LINK statement allowing for taki
ng
over also the PAV Aliases. Maybe something for a FITS reqest?

Thanks,

Kind regards,
