Hello Ewald, I think the missing OBJECTs with CREATOR of NULLID are from
running a BIND from UDB DB2/Connect against a DB2/VM server using DB2??LST.
Please check your UDB DB2/Connect PD.

However, you also have to run the following 'GRANT's before running the UDB
DB2/Connect BIND:

CONNECT SQLDBA IDENTIFIED BY SQLDBAPW;
  SET ERRORMODE CONTINUE;
   GRANT SELECT ON SYSTEM.SYSCATALOG  TO NULLID WITH GRANT OPTION;

Hi,

struggling on with implementing DB2 V7.5, on VM I got some DRDA Problems
with DB2 Connect.

Environment:
Database P1 is on Level 7.3
Database T1 is on Level 7.5

DB2 Connect V7.2 connects to P1 and T1 with no problems

DB2 Connect V8.1 connects to P1 with no problems

DB2 Connect V8.1 connecting to T1 ends up with errors:

Warning: SQL error: [IBM][CLI Driver][SQLDS/VM] SQL0805N Package
.NULLID.SYSSN200 was not found. SQLSTATE=51002 ,
SQL state 51002 in SQLExecDirect in /web/intern/htdocs/archivts/TA0010.php
on line 292

.NULLID.SYSSN200 was not found. SQLSTATE=51002 ,
SQL state 51002 in SQLExecDirect in /web/intern/htdocs/archivts/TA0010.php
on line 325

The difference of the databases P1 and T1 are in SYSTEM.SYSACCESS table:

the old V7.3 fatabase contains the following entries (and some more), I
don't know, where they come from:
TNAME               CREATOR
--  ---
SYSLN100            NULLID
SYSLN101            NULLID
SYSLN102            NULLID
SYSLN200            NULLID
SYSLN201            NULLID
SYSLN202            NULLID
SYSLN300            NULLID
SYSLN301            NULLID
SYSLN302            NULLID
SYSLN400            NULLID
SYSLN401            NULLID
SYSLN402            NULLID
SYSSN100            NULLID
SYSSN101            NULLID
SYSSN102            NULLID
SYSSN200            NULLID
SYSSN201            NULLID
SYSSN202            NULLID
SYSSN300            NULLID
SYSSN301            NULLID

In the V7.5 database these entries are missing.

Reading the Database Administration Guide, I found out, that I have to set up
a Stored Procedure Server for DB2 UDB V8.x connections.
This is new with DB2 V7.3, the old database on this level works well
without a Stored Proc Server.

What do I miss ??

Hello Ewald, I am afraid it is impossible. You will get msgs:

ARI2038E Archive being restored is from a different
release of DB2 Server for VM The restore has failed.
ARI0032I The database manager has terminated.
ARI0043I Database manager return code is 516.

Do you still have V7.30 available? If you have, restore using V7.30 and then
migrate it to V7.50 is the only way to do so.

DB2/VM server running with VMDSS enabled under z/VM 5.30 and above.

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
An error in pageable PGMBK processing causes segments which may
contain changed pages to be skipped. This can lead to changed
pages not being saved which in turn can lead to DB2 data
corruption.

The PTFs are now available:
R530 UM32966
R540 UM32967
R610 UM32968

Note that this may happen in a particular workload and in a very heavily loaded
(paging rate up to hundred of thousands pages per second) VM system. So far,
only couple of customers had reported this kind of abends to
IBM. The abends can be avoided by changing the workload.

Please review DOC APAR PK73730 for more details.

Re: VM DB2 7.3 question

2010-01-28 Thread Roland P. Chung
Hi Bill, This means the agent wants to read a directory block from disk, but
there are no available directory buffers, so the agent waits for another agent
to free up a buffer.  When a buffer is freed, this agent will be un-waited so
it can try to get the buffer again.   This indicates an increase in the number
of Directory buffers is needed.
There is also an out of page wait state for when page buffers are all
in use.

I hope this helps.

SHOW ACTIVE was entered:

I have been searching off and on through the manuals today and I still
cannot find any reference to the

I suspect it has something to do with a shortage of the lock request
blocks allowed and available for an active user, but I cannot find

Anyone have any knowledge about what this message means?

Re: FCOPY help

2009-12-09 Thread Roland P. Chung
Ops, Bruce is correct that the FCOPY packlib files are in variable
length format. The FCOPY'ed file must have been COPYFILE (PACKed.

Then you should PC transfer the file to CMS disk using Binary Fixed 1024,

then, COPYFILE (UNP OLDD

then, FCOPY fn ft fm
(list   to
find out the members in the paclib (28 of them)

then use SEL to fetch the file out to your  CMS disk.

BTW, you should have a TXT file called CLIVM README for instructions on how to
install it. Don't you?

FCOPY packlib files are in variable length format, and you lose the
record structure when you upload it from a PC.  I don't know how you
could reconstruct the file in the correct format so that FCOPY would
accept it.  If the DB2 people would use COPYFILE (PACK on the packlib
first, then you could upload as Fixed 1024, use COPYFILE to unpack,
then extract the files using FCOPY.

It would be nice if the CMS TAPE command had a DSE option.  I pass tapes

Re: more RAM for DB2

2009-09-01 Thread Roland P. Chung
Hello Graves, you should only concern with 2 buffer settings: NPAGBUF and
NDIRBUF. Especially the NPAGBUF - the more the merrier.

DB2 only works on data in its buffers. It will move data from DASD when it does
not find what it is looking for in the buffers. So, the more buffer allocated,
the better. It may put a drain in the CP's PAGING system if you specify too
much. So, work with your SYSPROG to find the balance point.

BTW, if you are using VMDSS, please check INFO APAR PK73730. Good luck.

I'm running DB2 7.5 under z/VM 5.4 (both are the current releases).  We have a
brand-new z10 processor.  My Systems Programmer has offered me 1 Gig of RAM, up
from our current Virtual Storage of 384 Meg for the production database.

I'd like to take advantage of this extra RAM, if at all possible.  I've been
using the Diagnosis Guide to see how to alleviate the problems of not enough
storage, thinking that I can work backwards from that.  I can see that I've got
constraints on my current use of buffers per user, and I can increase that
number.

I'd like suggestions on other parameters to research, as well.

TIA,

2009-08-28 Thread Roland P. Chung
Hello Micheal, I don't think there are any free software out there to do what
you want because the format of the DB2/VM log disk is IBM Propriety.

The closest thing I can think of is the Data Restore for DB2/VSEVM program
product which has a LISTLOG function which can provide a list of transactions
as part of the restore process. It is NOT free tho.

I hope this helps.

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know of a tool for VM DB2 Server 7.5 that would allow you to format
the DB2 Server log to see individual transactions?  I know z/OS has DB2 Log
Analysis:

We need something for DB2 Server for VM 7.5, and ideally something

Re: DB2 on VM

2008-08-26 Thread Roland P. Chung
Hi Aris, that is OK, DB2/VM V7.10 runs well in z/VM 5.30.
However,
1) if you are using TCP/IP, make sure that you re-gen the CEEPIPI as documented
in Appendix E. IBM Language Environment for VM User Exit Customization for use
with TCP/IP in the PD.
2) if you have VMDSS enabled, make sure you have intalled all VMDSS related
APARs.
a) DB2/VM:
- PQ54781 DBSS - SHOW TARGETWS SHOWS WRONG VALUE OF CURRENT WORKING STORAGE
WHEN Z/VM IS RUNNING IN 64-BIT MODE.
- PQ58880 VMDSS - DURING ROLLBACK, AN 0C8 ABEND IN ARIYT17 COULD OCCUR IF A 2G
DATASPACE IS BEING USED.
b) z/VM - you have to call z/VM support
Good luck.

Hi List,

Anyone using an older version of DB2 for VM on a later version (5) of

Moving huge volume of data from DB2/VSEVM to DB2/UDB or DB2/LUW

2008-05-30 Thread Roland P. Chung
* cross post to VSE-L and VM-L *
Hello Lister, here is a piece of information you may want to hear. I have a
customer loading data from DB2/VM server to z/Linux server. They use the cross
loader method but got very poor performance. I have introduced a difference
approach to them. Here is their feedback:

===

We have had good results with the Data Unload, FTP, and Data Load.  We
moved 2.5 million records in 22 minutes: the data unload on DB2/VM Server
took 15 minutes, the FTP transfer took 5 minutes and the Load on DB2 9.5
took 2 minutes.

I don’t know if these numbers can be improved, but they are much better
than moving 255,000 records in one hour using the cross loader method.

Maybe you want to give this approach a try next time if you want to move a lots
of data from DB2/VSEVM server to DB2/UBD or DB2/LUW
server.

Sunsetting a 9221

Hello Listers, my customer is sunsetting a 9221-200 with a
bank of 9343's emulating 20 3390's. I can think of 3 ways
to erase the data from the DASDs:

1) using ICKDSF to TRKFMT them with ERASEDATA parameter;
(yeah... very time consuming and CPOWN packs - 4 of them -
will be using standalone ICKDSF...)

2) borrow a very power industrial grade magnet (must
protect the other recording devices in the computer room.
Ummm...);

3) use a 10-LB slug hammer (very quick but messy).

Do you guys have better suggesions?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Re: RXSQL talking to DB2 UDB on Linux/IFL

2007-07-19 Thread Roland P. Chung
Hello Ed, there is a problem using RXSQL to run against DB2 for z/OS V8:

Getting SQLCODE -301 when inserting undefined variable (never
assigned a value or RXSQL DROPped) to DB2 for z/OS V8. When a
variable was undefined, it was considered to have a NULL value.
The application works fine with DB2 for z/OS V7 but failed with
SQLCODE -301 with DB2 for z/OS V8.

The reason being:
Prior to DB2 for z/OS V8 when an indicator variable is set to a negative
number that indicates that you are specifying NULL value.
The value of the actual variable did not matter when indicator
  variable is negative.
DB2 for Z/OS V8 has added an extra restriction: the value of the actual
variable must have a valid value.

I understood UDB LUW has adopted the same changes in V8. So, you have to
watch out for that.

A temporary RXSQL FIX has been provided to circumvent the customer's
situation. Contact DB2/VSEVM support if you encounter similiar problem.

Other than that, all RXSQL application running against DB2 for z/OS are fine.

  I hope this helps.

Caution: user migrating DB2/VM server to z/VM 5.20 running in z9 hardware with VMDSS enabled

2007-01-10 Thread Roland P. Chung
To all DB2/VM server users: several instances of DB2/VM server abends with
ARIYI36 05
have been reported to IBM lately when users migrated their DB2/VM servers to
z/VM 5.20 running in a z9 hardware with VMDSS enabled.

VM APAR VM63968 has been opened to address this problem.

IBM z/VM development is currently, with the assistance of DB2 for VSEVM
Team, testing the fix for VM APAR VM63968.

DB2/VM server's ARIYI36 05 abend is an after the fact situation. That
means, DB2/VM server detects an inconsistance between the BDISK and the
DBEXTENT when it requests CP to bring in a datapage from the DBEXTENT. With
VMDSS support enabled, CP is responsible to move datapage between
DASD(DBEXTENT) and dataspace then DB2/VM server moves the datapage from
dataspace to its buffer for processing. The error could have been:
  1) CP returns an incorrect datapage
  2) the datapage returned has been previously stored on DASD incorrectly by CP

If a user would like to migrate DB2/VM server to z/VM 5.20 running in a z9
hardware BEFORE the official PTF for APAR VM63968 is available, the
recommendation is:

  1) apply all available MCLs to z9 box;
  2) apply all current VM APARs/PTFs, especially VM63978/UM31822;
  3) disable VMDSS support in DB2/VM server;
  4) if not possible to disable VMDSS support in DB2/VM server, the DB2/VM
server should be archived more frequency.

Re: IOCP for MP2003-204

2006-06-20 Thread Roland P. Chung
Hello all Listers, thanks to all. I think I should let you
guys know the outcome of this project.

With an IBM ROC helping me all afternoon yesterday, we
finally conclued that it may be because of VM/ESA 2.30 is
lecking maintenances to be able to handle the newer
hardware (MP2003 and IBM 2105-F20 Shark). The VM was been
instlled sometimes in October, 1998 and have no services
applied to it since. Talking about stable - VM is the best.

No matter how we twisted the IOCDS, we were getting the
exact DISABLED WAIT PSW. We felt that when CP sends out the
reset to all the channels when IPLed, it went into
DISABLED WAIT because it does not understands the return
code coming back from the channel/hardware.

This is a great experience for me to be involved in the
middle of a 'lack of planning', 'cold turkey' CPU upgrade
project. They backs up the old O/S DASDs, shuts down the
old system, rolls in and installs the new hardware, and
starts restore. Hopefully the system would run just like in
the new hardware. No parallel...no testing... Ummm.

We recommanded to upgrade to VVM 4.40 and try again. This
time, I will do all the needed preparation before I drop in
again.

That is enough. I have been taken up a lot of the bandwidth
in this List lately. Thanks again for all the help. You
guys are the greatest!

...Roland

2006-06-20 Thread Roland P. Chung
Well, that is IBM.

Reading between the lines: customer cannot order a copy of
z/VM 4.40 because it has been pulled from marketing. The
system just don't accept the order. But, if the customer
can get a copy from other places, IBM will let the customer
uses it as long as the customer registers the software with
IBM and is paying the licence fee. IBM wouldn't ask where
the customer obtained the copy from. ... this pratice (of
getting a copy of the software from other customer other
than from IBM) is neither recommended or condomed (by us).

So, any taker? I promise I wouldn't tell IBM you give me a
copy of z/VM 4.40. I also promise my customer would
register with IBM and pay the licensing fee. Please contact
me off-list. TIA.

It will be greatly appreciated.

I'm confused, IBM said they'd license z/VM 4.4.0 for you
if you could get a copy of the installation tape from
another customer, but won't permit other customers to
send you a copy of the tape. Am I understanding the

Hi All, thanks for all your responses. How could I forget the SAPL. Must be getting old The customer is still using VM/ESA 2.30... I don't know if the SAPL would take the LOADPARM. However, it only allows 8 characters in this load parameter field, but NO special characters allows, like the = sign... Both SAPLand CP support this console (z/OS does not), so the LOADPARM can be SYSG or CONSSYSG Similar, there is SYSC, the integrated linemode console, not supported by SAPL, so you can also enter LOADPARM CONSSYSC to directly load CP and instruct it to got to that linemode terminal. 2006-06-18 Thread Roland P. Chung
Hello All, thanks to all who responded. After hours of
struggling, I manage to set up a IOCDS which I was able to
get at the tape drives, DASDs and 3174. IPLed the
standalone ICKDSF and DDR. I was very happy to be able to
restore all 5 CP OWNED volumes.

Came to the monent of truth IPL'ed VM hit the
terminal... nothing...

After spent hours investigating and trial many different
address on the 3174, I only can figure out that VM can't
get at the 3174 because in the SYSTEM CONFIG file, it says:

Operator_Consoles 001F 0020 0021 0022 0023
 Emergency_Message_Consoles 0020 0021 0022 0023

And in MP2003 world, I think there are no channel 0 anymore
and there re no good old 01F(the integrated console) hangs
on that channel either.

I think the address (at least the UU) has been hardcoded as
40-5F on the 3174 controler.

I was very tire my brian can only think of a few
solutions:

1) find an IBM Productivity Centre near Washinging, DC
(if there are such thing in US!), restore the 5 pack VM
system, IPL it and fix the SYSTEM CONFIG to include 040 -
043 (the address on that 3174); Backup the 230RES, restore
it back here and I should be in business

2) reconfigure the 3174 to start the UU from 20 - well, the
Utility and a backup disk are there only thing I need
is a manual. Anyone has a LINK I can get a softcopy?

3) get a zVM DVD? How and where?

Anyone has a better idea on how to resolve this problem?
TIA

No, it doesn't. To IPL CP you have to IPL *something*.
 That *something*
must be in the active I/O configuration. You need a tape
 drive and enough
dasd volumes to restore a basic VM system, plus a
 console.

This is the nice thing about having an emergency 1-pack

Sysres, paging, spooling, a directory, OPERATOR and
 MAINT, DDR, IOCP, all
on one volume, with the console pointing to the
 integrated console (on
modern machines, integrated 3270). Or, also on modern
 machines, the
ability to IPL the z/VM DVD.

IF you authorized the LPAR to perform dynamic I/O
 operations and you have
dynamic I/O enabled in VM, then CP, once up, can start to
 add chpids,
control units, and devices to the I/O config.

I hope the computer room manager would have a picture of
the old machine configuration showing how the devices are
connected to the Hitachi. With that, the installer can put
a basic IOCP on the MP2003-204's storage element.

As I know of on the Hitachi:

DASD are on 200-23F

Re: db2 7.4 and TCPIP on VM 5.2

2006-05-28 Thread Roland P. Chung
Hi Steve, for that pesky DB2 problem, you may have to
rebuilt and resave the CEEPIPI module. ^e^

You can review the Appendix E. IBM Language Environment
for VM User Exit Customization for use with TCP/IP in the
DB2/VM Program Directory on how to tailor the CEEBXITB
before rebuld and resave the CEEPIPI module.

I hope this help.

Hi Steve, TCPPORT=0 means does not start TCP/Ip support.
Can you post the error messages from the DB2/VM server?

port 0 on the tcpport parameter of the start command
  it comes up fine.
  Any ideas?
