Benefiting from this combined experience, we have come up with a 40-hour

 following areas:

 1. Operating Systems
 2. Networking
 3. Programming
 4. Virtualization/Cloud Computing

There will be a strong emphasis on using Free Software Tools to gain a
clear understanding of the topics covered in the course. While this is
primarily a technical course, Learning Skills/Communication Skills are
interwoven into the course modules and will be of help to the job seekers.

All the trainers are working IT Professionals with hands-on experience in
 the respective areas of technology.

The course targets CS IT graduates and MCAs who are looking for their
 first job.

The venue is T Nagar and the class room sessions will be of 2 hour duration
 - 2 or 3 times a week. Apart from the hours spent in the class room, the
trainees will be expected to put in significant amount of time on lab
 exercises/reading tasks.

We may be in a position to let you try out the course for FREE for one
session without any obligation to pay/continue. This may help you to decide
if the course will benefit you.

Please mail me directly off list with your resume for more details about
 the course.

And, there are around 80 ~ 100 OEM companies like - ACE Design, HAAS,

I was in power conditioning - which supports a lot to these companies

The latest version of Fedora has attracted many of the colleges
towards GNU/Linux platform and most colleges have decided to migrate
atleast 50% of computers using Linux in all departments (one of the
engineering college located within Chennai city has already migrated
10% of computers completely to Fedora-20 and would switch another 40%
by the end of March ' 2014).

After interacting with several engineering college management
authorities, I found that, the colleges were no more interested in
paying for software license for proprietary software and therefore
decided to migrate to Linux platform and train all the faculty members
 for using them.

Hence, based on the feedback and response we got from colleges, we
have decided to setup more than 100+ FOSS Labs on April 8th, 2014.

We are looking for volunteers support who can support this initiative.
Any monetary benefits we receive from colleges would be shared with

I am ready to offer FREE training / resources for the volunteers who
 wish to support this initiative.

My entire knowledge of the GNU Linux System is thanks to LFS. It is
brilliant and is a must for any serious enthusiast. But the steep curve of
LFS is not worth for any casual user or traditional programmer. For the
people who are interested, do not miss this opportunity.

 What makes this really exciting:

- Compile every single package from source.
- Bootstrap glibc and gcc to compile itself to use for compiling other
sources!
- Setup the linux file system from scratch.
- Compile even grub and install it in the MBR.

But I am not sure that the entire process can be covered in one session of
the meeting and targeting the next session 1 month later might be too long.
My suggestion would be to demonstrate and hand hold the initial process of
chroot'ing and setup of the environment required. The rest can be left as
an exercise and the mailing list is always there to ask questions.

Re: [Ilugc] Technology, knowledge and competitiveness [ OT]

2013-05-28 Thread Sivakumar Bharadhwaj
Dear Girish,

As always - you speak very clearly (atleast as of your conviction) and
boldly - though it is sometimes not needed. I do not know what prompted
you on this clear, bold and sudden expression of your point / view.

As always - all of you are afraid of being :

- loser (or not being a winner)
- fear (of losing things which are with you - to someone else)
- indian people (generally) and indian companies
- more of materialistic only

MAYBE I am COMPLETELY WRONG, I admit.

There is nothing wrong being / living till your last breath as a loser. It
is a relative term as to the time of relation, I too have seen many of my
school mates were a sorry loser - who have failed to clear even simple
exams, failed 10th / 12th / graduation. But, after seeing them after 15
years - some of them have become top class - at least in terms of being a
successful person - in your terms - not afraid of someone stealing their
bread / not afraid of working with some of the top class companies (right
from IBM to TVS to simple Saravana Bhavan vendor etc).

Fear - of losing things : you will always lose things (in substitution -
say play time to study time etc) when you are not sure of getting to be
where you want to be. After all FEAR makes you to look for alternatives
(the degree of appropriateness of the solution will depend on more of your
Manam / Buddhi / Chinda Agna), which you will not get when you are too
confident. May be you will get a better outcome if you have still operated
when you were still under fear. Not getting bogged down by Fear is the only
answer.

Indian People Companies : First of all in my opinion - all companies /
Org etc - is only as good as its staff. If Indian companies are bad, then
the Indian staff are bad. Is any other countries people are better than
Indian ??? Each country has always had a very very bad phase - which
happens primarily because of their citizens. Do not consider IPL /
Congress / and other issues which plague India right now.

Materilism : I think you know more about this than others to tell you, you
were always a good dasa of lord Muruga !!!. Think about it, and if
something needs to change your / my view please let me know.

I think the time one lives is always the best time (to live / to prosper),
since, when we die, we cannot do anything - being a loser / successful
person.

The above are my views.

Wine works well for a few apps. I think Tally would have been
developed using the dotnet framework. I've had problems running such
apps whether with Mono or the native dotnet framework installed under
wine. You will have better results running Tally under Windows in a VM
like Virtualbox. Takes away the claim that one can be Windows free
 though.

Multiuser Tally has a web interface, I recall. If that were the case,
you could have the Tally server alone on Windows.

there is no problem when using Win-7, it automatically goes to auto DHCP,

is not detecting the inbuilt network device at all.

After 2 -weeks yesterday re-installed Ubuntu 10.04-4, (downloaded
seperately once again), but found the same problem exists. I could not
 get
  into the internet at all.

there is no problem when using Win-7, it automatically goes to auto
 DHCP,
whereas Ubuntu 10.04 - could not connect, always says no network device
  found

AFAIK, HP creates OEM images of Windows with the hardware specific
 drivers integrated into the OS.

Please suggest what could be the problem.

It appears you have laptop which is newer than Ubuntu 10.04; it's
kernel may not have the driver for the NIC chip set. Try the latest
version and see if that fixes your problem.

2012-08-31 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear Sir,

last year when I was in mumbai, I got some posters (made by IIT, Mumbai)
for SFD, and posted in some places. Got good response from Kendriya
Vidyalaya, Bhandup. They perennially had problems (around 20-25) at one of
the computer labs, always affected by virus - (of course, all were win XP).
So the principal had personally asked the computer lab incharge to attend
the SFD, and the lab incharge spent the whole day at the SFD. And I
believe now all the computers in the lab are now in dual-booting (Ubuntu
Edubuntu), and the kids are finding both very simple.

Is there anyway we can do similarly here. please let me know.

2011-12-30 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear Sir,

Sorry to hijack this thread.

There is a need for a commercial application - which we may need.

Need : To show a Monitoring Saving software in Linux - *in GUI format* -
when you connect an UPS.

Already have :

- a software package which comes along with the UPS (called UPSILON)
- it is very good in Windows Platform - shows everything in graphical -
Dashboard sort of
- it also works and does all it needs to : monitor, alerting, shows in
bargraph
- but it does not show in as like Windows, as the Developers did not find
it necessary.

Is it possible to show the signals received by the software (do not have
the codes - since it is a proprietory and already in compiled executable
version), and show them using Python - in wave format, and any other GUI
based format.

(I have seen Jaya Engineering College students - doing something in Python
- way back in 2008 - SFD celebrations at Birla Planetarium.)

I think we can contribute / pay the cost for this. The same package can be
offer to other UPS vendors - for the same application, if need be, by the
developers.

Please do let me know : calms...@gmail.com.

2011-10-18 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear sirs,

IMHO, the speakers should decide how best to approach the session
since they see them as the expert, not your point of contact.

 SK

This is exactly the reason - the person will be in touch with ILUGC
(and who ever wants to participate in this - when it comes !!) - for
good script and if possible any video clippings which can be shown /
used (with due permission from the owner, etc). This will (I want it
to be) be one more step for FOSS introduction to students / and any
user of Computers.

The first step is to get :

- a good Spot in a TV channel (when every channel is fighting to
show Serials!!)
- some sponsors for this show
- even the name of the serial will be debated a lot
- and what not !!

[Ilugc] will it work

2011-10-17 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear All,

I have a friend in chennai - who is now doing 'serials' for Jaya Plus
Raj TV (generally 'pattimandrams' and other simple ones).

I had discussed with him - about 6 months back, about doing a 20 to 30
minutes 'serial' on FOSS FOSS related ones. since he was busy and i
have come back to mumbai - did not proceed much.

After meeting people in SFD 2011 - at IIT Powai, Also, since now many
students are going to get 'Laptops' from TN govt, a new audience (if
we can call them) may be enticed to see (and get benefitted) a series
of FOSS related things in TVs.

Though this may take a lot of time to even start (finding 'slots' with
TV, finding 'sponsors', finding 'topics', getting approved, finding
'Hosts', etc), my only question is 'WILL IT WORK (not only
commercially but also 'in the best interest of all').

If he goes ahead - he will be in touch with most of you (who are in
chennai), to make this into a shape.

- need your unreserved remarks - without any bias.

If this is not even treated as a 'topic', I will not take this personally.

thanks (and sorry if I had wasted your time)

Dear Sirs,

Yesterday I spoke to this chennai person:

- he says he can get first - a spot for 10 to 15 minutes - mainly in Jaya Plus.
- this spot will be for 1 days / week
- after seeing the response he will get for every day (if needed)
- he feels to start with how students using the TN Laptop better
using all the tools
- it may start with Microsoft (1 or 2 episodes) - and then PAN into FOSS fully.
- he will be in touch with most of the ILUGC people, who would want to
give simple scripts and also anchor (which may or may not be
commerically)

As soon as he gets this spot, I will ask him to get in touch with one
of the ILUGC members (who can introduce others if needed whenever
necessary) - not disturbing everyone's time always.

In the meantime i feel let me not waste other's time in replying to this topic.

Dear Arun,

I did just what you have suggested - went to the site
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1682977, and did the same.

1. went to the hidden folder .libreoffice in /home and to the last folder
2. there was a folder /basic - one file called 'standard' and another
one called 'script.xlc'
3. i opened the script.xlc - through 'gedit'
4. deleted all the contents in the script.xlc
5. and saved the same file as 'dialog.xlc'
6. closed the libreoffice, and opened once again.

Now, there is no error pop-up message - as it used to come earlier.

I do not know whether this is actually a solution, or it just removed the popup.

Anyway, for now, it removed the irritating one which was spoiling,
whenever I open in front of my customer, and tried showing it to them
for a replacement of Microsoft Office. This is not commercial, but
just trying to introduce FOSS - for their personal use / office use. I

Re: [Ilugc] TN Govt says No to Linux - issues new tender

2011-09-03 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear Mr. Senthil,

Have we ever done (better) - when we are forced to do something with.

Linux - have evolved (I feel) - not because of somebody forced us to
use with ...
- it was more of people wanting to do more, which they are not able to
(or with more difficulty) some thing ...

The scene in the mobile platform - where Nokia was giving only symbian
(earlier), was not able to pull-off for more time. People buy Andoid
phones because they can do more with it how many are knowing about
android now (the users who are using it) Android - Linux connection.
Nokia is not able to sell even though microsoft WindowsPhone is being
packed along with Nokia - now a days - on high-end phones.

When the Student is ready The teacher appears - an old and
perennially truthfull statement.

Instead of making this a complex issue, it would fetch excellent
fruitfull results in the long run. That is what is prompting Ubuntu
and all others giving this excellent OS free of cost, and making more
efforts to reach people.

Our concentration should be to reach more more people, instead of
cramming something on their throat. Even if you install linux on the
laptop, it is not sure that they will use Linux instead of Microsoft
Windows.

These students - who are getting educated in colleges / schools - are
not dumb, but are made to join the crowd, and at this point of time,
it is Microsoft Windows 7, and later 8, etc.

If they perceive that Linux is 100 % rewarding for them in the long
run they would certainly go for it.

How many of us are really helping new people to get solutions in this
forum without they getting hurt (no, I am not going to start a war),
for their problems. It is still being perceived even by computer
users who are more than 10 years of usage, feels that Linux is
difficult, and 'getting help is very difficult'. It is this perceived
thing that should be taken care off.

To make this Linux more interesting, we should organise for people to
get trained : Freely of course, Languages like C, etc, and every month
simple competitions should be organised in localities, and taking them
into State Level (Imagine IPL's Success).

Organising a competition - say for 20 people, in basics, database,
GIMP, etc should not be difficult - say after 3 months of coaching. A
person who is 12 to 18 year old feel much satisfied with a certificate
from a body like ILUGC, etc. The competition can be every 2 months, in
each place. This will make people / students / parents to encourage
people to even think about Linux.

we can always find sponsors for these sort of events - in every place.
I am trying to do something in mumbai, very shortly.

My simple 2 paise (which now has no meaning / worth)

synaptic, and then installed Libreoffice 3.4. It was successful too,
and i have all the latest features.

But, i am getting this message every time I open Libreoffice - word,
calc or anything

in a pop up box :

LibreOffice 3.4
-
Error loading BASIC of document
file:///home/office/.libreoffice/3/user/basic/dialog.xlc/:
General Error.
General input/output error

Can anyone suggest how to solve this..

It is only slightly irritating, and also embarassing, when I show it
to my customers, whom I trying to make them install Libreoffice, when
they have Microsoft Office 2003 / 2007 etc. (I am not a seller of IT
- but power conditioning equipments).

Thanks

Re: [Ilugc] TN Govt says No to Linux - issues new tender

2011-09-02 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Sir(s),

I feel the one thing that can happen by challenging through court is :
this tender gets delayed for atleast 6 months.

I think this will help the government - particularly the C.M. of TN,
since she can get more time on this Freebie, and can escape (not
necessarily 'escape' ) but can get a fair breather. Also they can cite
this as an example, and delay others too. The sufferer is the students
(and also to a certain extent - the tax payers, in the long run, if
the govt. chooses to go only with proprietary software).

It would be definetely better to do something like our Linexpert
Systems - Mr. Bhaskar - where we could educate more on this to the
actual users - who if they find this better, can always install Linux
later, and inform the govt, for the next lot to change the specs.

my two paise.

Re: [Ilugc] TN Govt says No to Linux - issues new tender

2011-09-02 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear Mr.

Dear Mr. Benedict,

first of all - hearty wishes for a good job done. keep it up.

i could feel the worth of your presentation - how good it would have

Post is very clear, using simple words, straight, and also breaking
the points into seperate paras, which makes it easy for understanding.

Why I mention this because I feel, though there are some really
really very good people who have excellent knowledge, sometimes they
dont take this extra time (just few seconds extra) to reply or even
post properly for anyone to understand clearly.

2011-07-17 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear Pudhuvai Villupuram LUG group,

joining other people who wish you of keeping your good work - in
promoting / show casing FOSS for the general publlic.

What is surprising is - If I can say - backward districts !! like
vilupuram is having an own LUG, but other intelligent (!!!) districts
like trichy, tanjore, kumbakonam etc is not having anything on its
own.

I am not trying to start any flame war, but suddenly felt that
something is happening in some districts - which most of us are seeing
properly. Maybe if we could understand something from these
happenings, promotion of FOSS can be made more effective, and done
efficiently with less resources.

(This is what is the way that most of the commercial marketing
organisations does - for any products).

Re: [Ilugc] How to make ILUGC list user friendly?

2011-07-13 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear Sirs,

The intention of starting this thread is good - personally.

This could be due to some one take 'initiative' 'action' - for
making this ILUGC - much better.

At the same time, please look at these threads - for a few days - you
would see some of replies are more 'reactive' than giving simple,
straightforward answer. And if someone feels that the question 'does
not deserve' his time answer - he 'may' leave it unanswered, instead
of just replying 'straight-forward', and then keeps 'reactively -
defending'.

Many organisations have closed down / not-looked-at anymore, because
of getting replies that does not convey proper respect to the asker.

It is the same Land - from where the Guru never shouts at students -
when stupid questions where asked - since, he might not have taught
them proper -(I have read this somewhere in the last month - and do
not ask me where when etc).

If some body is trying to do something - for the betterment of all -
either support him or leave the thread.

I have learnt a lot by reading the ILUGC posts, but have sometimes
felt this forum is mainly for people who do know linux.

Thanks for not 'reacting' to my simple post.

Hats-off to Mr. Srinivasan, for this initiative.

Re: [Ilugc] Free laptops from TN Govt - The students Nature

2011-06-23 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear all,

- one small thought on this.

instead of just saying about the good things about FOSS, and money
loss on using Windows etc
- can we use this opportunity to show how using linux can be
customised - in Tamil Language etc...

More :
- it is not just the student (who receives) will be using the laptop
- his brother / sister, maybe even his relative would like to use them
- if they cannot see things in tamil / related language - they may lose interest
- if they can see and learn to operate in tamil (or their language )
it will make the student also very happy he will be proud too.

Let the laptop be with dual booting, and if we can get the first lot
students to see this side of linux (customising and a lot of other
things) may be he will start using linux more than Windows, and he may
even take windows out of the laptop !!!.

- even if we aim for 1 to 5 % of this entire lot of laptops to keep
running on linux too, then it will be a big boost.

I think you all will have more ideas in this.

- what about commercial usage (in the sense - giving POS software to
run in Tamil), etc ...

may be I dream more may be I should wake up.

thanks

Will you restrict the use of mobile phones by students too . We are
living
in the age of 2G and 3G . Even if u don't provide internet students may surf
on net using mobile phones while they listening to class.

- every one has individual style of training, and it boils down whether the
majority of the students get good knowledge out of it, or not, which is what
the crux is.

- the original post has asked a solution for one problem, and now the
answers / comments are taking a different route.

- most of us (including me - this instance) starts judging the other person,
when this is not needed, and also to be avoided.

- let us learn from the community of other countries - which will not take a
side, while replying.

I am not getting into any pathos, but, most of the thread gets treated this
way, these days. I know that i will be getting more replies on this,

- I am using 10.04 and updated till yesterday.

I am not able to connect it through the default network application. The new
device is showing as 10.1.0.24111.

Any suggestions on this. In their manual it says - works for win
XP/Vista/7, and supports Mac OS.

I have also tried it in windows XP - SP3, it seems to work, at least it got
detected and I am able to set the parameters. The actual activation is
expected in an hour.

For general info : This vodafone - just introduced - claim to be a 3G
device, and the costs 1799/- and unlimited usage for 1 month (free), at
Mumbai. Tariff : post paid / prepaid - 599/- for unlimited per month. When
the 2G gets upgraded to 3G, automatically this will be on 3G, and the tariff

getting the icon in 'applications'.

gives the following :

Re: [Ilugc] Building a digital wall using LCD's using linux for SFD 2010.

2010-08-07 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
sir,

I too would like to give a helping hand in this.

I once heard from my RSM (Reg Sales Manager) when he was referring to
Mahatma Gandhi : Greatness is doing the Ordinary things in an extraordinary
way. Never trying to do the extraordinary things at all.

This may not be in anyway corresponding to this discussion, but we always
remember this when we try to give a presentation to one of our serious
prospects, or, whenever we take part in any technical exhibitions.

I would like to do the same things once again - for those who come (apart
from the students) :

- who are using Windows
- also looking at other ones (may be due to some virus / commerical reasons)
- but are not sure to contact any serious vendor to come /go discuss with
them
- first would like to use themselves then later on they would like to take
them into their official use
- see how easies / difficult to migrate from Windows to Open Source
- what is the support level / how they can get support - FOR THE MOST SIMPLE
THINGS that are needed in the daily official use
- whether they themselves can do most of the support for the daily official
use
and so on.

I still suggest to do the most ordinary things :

   - explain to them what are the ordinary things they perform with computer
: personnally at home / and officially
   - use mail, surf web, use to write documents, use to compute with
spreadsheets, do presentations, and sometimes watch movies, and hear music.
   - how we do the same with Thunderbird / Evolution, Firefox / Google,
Open Office / K Office / Symphony / Abiword / Gnumeric etc, VLC player etc.
   - how to do dual booting with Windows Linux etc
   - how to connect with their official windows mail server (through
   exchange etc) like this

All the above mentioned things are not something different, but, which are
the most ordinary sensible things that one might want to.

I would still want one or two old pcs : just for showing how to install
dual boot : one / two PCs with Openoffice etc.

MAY BE I AM WRONG - in saying these.

In any case, thanks for the opportunity.

Dear Victor

You are so worried about spending / wasting other people's time and by doing
all these - you are actually doing the same, with anger.

Any good deed which is done with anger / irritation / emotion gets the same.

I would have preferred you doing simply what other members been doing - just
putting your point - simply.

You are really wasting a lot of other people's time.

I am not contributing to ILUGC in any way - but i am simple user of LINUX -
for my deeds, and I sincerely appreciate and thank all those who were
magnanimous enough to give their work to all of us. I do not know whether I

[Ilugc] yahoo mail - cannot open

2010-07-17 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear Sirs,

- for the past few days - I am not able to get into yahoo.com - for opening
my mail.
- I have tried opening this using - firefox, chrome, opera - but no full
success.
- a week back or so, i was able to get into my yahoo mail account, but when
I tried opening a mail, it took such a long time (more than 5 minutes) - but
it was just a simple text mail, like there it was around 5 to 6, and I just
logged out.
- second time, I tried opening it could not get thro even the yahoo.mail
page itself.
- i could easily open my gmail accounts, my old rediffmail accounts etc,
without any problem.

My question is :

- is there any one who is facing the same problem
- is there any problem in settings (if any !!!)

Any suggestion would be welcome

I use Airtel broadband - wired ethernet. I do not have problem in any other

I found this very peculiar.

Re: [Ilugc] Request for tamil lovers

2010-07-15 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Sir,

I think I have seen so many ( lengthy too) replies for a such a small thing
in this world.

We all talk about freedom - just using FOSS is just to prove this.

It would be even more nicer to have a seperate language (or tag) for. If we
want more people to use Computers and also FOSS, making them to use in
their mother-tongue is the best format.

And if some of us indulge in this, it is better to channelise it, than to
cut it or so.

this is my humble opinion.

thanks for allowing me to get into this.

[Ilugc] WINE is not visible in Applications Menu.

2010-06-17 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Dear All,

Installed Wine - initially using Ubuntu Tweak, but when tried using it,
could not find it in the applications menu. Logged out restarted 3 / 4
times, still the same problem. then used synaptic to uninstall, and then
reinstall. Still the Wine is not appearing in Applications menu. Logged
out Logged in, rebooted 3 times, still the same problem.

Using 10.04 on my laptop.

In the Synaptic Menu it is showing that Wine 1.0 Wine 1.0-gecko both are
installed.

What could be the problem.

Re: [Ilugc] WINE is not visible in Applications Menu.

2010-06-17 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
Sir,

Excellent. It was just the right answer.
-
I cut pasted the article :

i don't know about kde (using gnome) but in gnome when you manually delete a
menu item like wine it writes an entry to /home/user
name/.config/menus/applications.menu
 Code:

Namewine-wine/Name

DirectoryDir/home/doug/.local/share/desktop-directories/DirectoryDir
Deleted/

remove the Deleted/
maybe kde does the same thing
---

One small thing to note was : that there were applications.menu 4 copies, 0,
10, 11 12. I changed the menu as directed in the last copy i.e,
applications.menu12.

It just worked sir.

Thanks very much. (In fact I was planning to reinstall 10.04 on this sunday,
if this problem was not sorted out before).

Re: [Ilugc] How to bring more people to ilugc meets?

2010-06-16 Thread sivakumar bharadhwaj
I agree.

Also, in my humble opinion, LUG could really help : those who just started
using Linux, and those who want to start using linux. If we can have a
session of 15 minutes at every LUG meet - only for clearing the doubts, It
can be the most silliest thing too.

Though using Linux for the past 1 year, I still feel inadequate sometimes.
I use my laptop only for regular usage - mail, office documentation, and of
course games (in XP booting). I have installed quite a few times - for my
collegues, friends and to some of my customers too. Some of them feel
really good, but many fall back to the XP since they find it difficult
sometimes to get printing, and others - like opening a MS Office Word
document (using OOO Writer) but finding the format is not disturbed, then
spend some time in getting back the document to the desired format, and
append the document, take print. etc.

Sometimes, some of the PCs do not have the CD boot from BIOS etc, or
sometimes, the display resolution does not permit to see all the
installation options in the screen, etc, so installing is not possible. I
do not know how to install through text mode.

Those who come and attend - if they come to know all these, they will start
experimenting, and also will be able to feel more confident, and also feel
belonging to the mighty LUG.

Even if one new person comes comes to the LUG meet every month - just like
sabarimala - kannisami. He will bring in one more new person the next
month.

this is my humble opinion.

[Ilugc] need help in restoring Evolution mail from backup

took a backup of all company mail on 19th Feb 2010, and it came in a tar.gz
file, and I saved it seperately.

I reinstalled Ubuntu and tried the 'restore setting' - but it says 'show a
valid file for restoring' - many times even tried with rebooting several
times.

I have done the same many times in the past - and always had a clean
restore.

Can anyone help me in this.
