We use Twitter for sending text messages to cell phones. People can
sign up for a Twitter account and then turn on the settings to send
our tweets to their cell phone. Parents don't have to ever go back to
the Twitter log-in again once they are set up if they choose not to
post.

Unfortunately, this morning when I went to post our school closing,
the Twitter website said that there were too many people tweeting and
I had to come back later. It took about 20 minutes to finally get in.
This is the first time I've come across this problem though.

Are any of you using SnowCap and if so are you having issues with it.
Okoboji's SnowCap is not working and we are wondering if it is a system wide
issue.

Do you use Iowa School Alerts? Free...currently no sms, though-if that's
what you are solely looking for. A few other places we notify put it on

We use Twitter for sending text messages to cell phones. People can sign up
for a Twitter account and then turn on the settings to send our tweets to
their cell phone. Parents don't have to ever go back to the Twitter log-in
again once they are set up if they choose not to post.

Unfortunately, this morning when I went to post our school closing, the
Twitter website said that there were too many people tweeting and I had to
come back later. It took about 20 minutes to finally get in. This is the
first time I've come across this problem though.

We are looking at Twitter but does that allow text message to be sent to the

Ours worked. However, I get the messages on my work phone, which was signed
up a couple years ago, right away, but my new personal cell phone doesn't
get the messages until over an hour later. I've noticed that the web site
often seems out of date.

[info-tech] JMC/SQL ?

2010-01-20 Thread Jackie Fonley
Hi! Thanks to everyone for the info with Skype -- I downloaded it
today and will play around with it in the upcoming weeks.

My question for today -- for those who use JMC: do you run the SQL
version? This is supposed to deal with some of the others currently
using message if I recall correctly. As I get ready for next year
-- anything special I need to run that? Currently I just have a
computer set up with WebStar (old!) and run the basic district app.

Pros/cons of each?

Thanks!
Jackie

2010-01-20 Thread Sarah Freking
I, too, am very interested in the SQL version of JMC. We have fits getting
anything done sometimes
because of users locking each other out because of what they're doing in JMC.

Are there finally actually SQL users out there?

Why yes, there is. In fact I was so enamored with JMC MySQL that I
switched the day before school started. I have been pleased with it,
and have not seen some of the problems we had last year.

[info-tech] Need some help please

2010-01-20 Thread Mitch Mueller
This is really school or education related, but I'm looking for an old
computer that will run Windows XP, that someone is willing to donate to our
Church. Their computer is about to go out and of course we have no money
to purchase anything. If anyone has something that they are willing to
donate please let me know. I have some spare memory modules that I can
stick in it but just something that has a 20 or so Gb hard-drive. I have
all the window xp disc i need but we could use a little help.

Thanks
