Kim, downloading a version from Blindsea.com improved the experience for
me.

They provide thorough disclosure about which versions are partially
accessible, which is the best we can hope for with that program. I've been
able to use it enough to get my work done, though. Just be prepared to use
the Jaws cursor a lot. The menu bars are accessible, which helps, and you
can access many of the primary functions like backup, update software etc
just by doing a right single click on the program from the system tray.

Downloads for both OVI and PC Suite are available under the third
generation software link. Make sure you know if your phone is a 2nd or
3rd

Make sure you have the Solo versions. The other Real Speak voices with
the same names are also available as SAPI5 voices. The Solo versions
talk directly to JAWS and are much more responsive. There is a entry in
the JAWS menu (Insert + j) Help Web Resources Real Speak Solo
direct download page, where you get these voices.

There are several down sides to these great sounding voices (I like the
Karen voice with the Australian accent). These voices can not go nearly
as fast and they are not capable of raising the pitch to indicate
capitals. I (and probably many others) complained to Freedom Scientific
about this. At the time they had removed the capability to indicate
upper case by saying Cap. They listened. Now this can be done in the
Speech and Sounds Scheme Manager. Their audio tutorial (actually a FS
DAISY file on the Speech and Sound Schemes walks you through setting up
upper case notification this way as an example.

fact that the Realspeak voices don't interpret punctuation marks as well as

[JAWS-Users] punctuation in jfw 12 latest build

Has anyone experienced punctuation being echoed in latest build of jfw
twice? Let me explain. Lets say I right a href=mailto:kimsans...@aol.com
mailto:kimsans...@aol.com%3eemail email me!/a. Ok, when I read that
back the equals was echoed twice. As in a href equals equals.

Ok, I went into the setting center and checked the level for the equals and
it was set at none. However, I changed it to all and when I read it back the
equals sign spoke once. Can someone provide an explination on why it would
echo once at all and twice at none?

Good Monday to all.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Tagging notes on Facebook

2011-08-08 Thread Patti

Here is what I learned today on the main page of FB
Tagging someone

If you write about someone in What's on your mine, and you want to tag them

1, Press the letter H

2, Until you get to news feed

3, Arrow down to what's on your mine edit field

4, When you type there name arrow down to make sure it is their name you
want, because you might have more then one Patti on your list, but if you
just have one Patti

5, Press enter after you typed there name

6, Press the space bar and keep on typing your message

7, After you are done typing

8, Arrow down to share

9, Press the space bar to send it off

10, If you want to make sure it is there, arrow down

hth

Patti

There used to be an option to tag people in a note on the mobile site, but
no longer. I can't find where to do it on the regular Facebook page using
JAWS 11. Does anyone have an answer to either tagging on the mobile site
or

writing a note and tagging on the regular Facebook page with JAWS?

Thanks.

Vicki

Re: [JAWS-Users] Tagging notes on Facebook

2011-08-08 Thread Michelle McQuigge
I discovered another alternative while playing around with it myself. This
technique only works on the main Facebook site, not on the mobile version.

When updating a status, enter the AT symbol, then start typing the person's
name. Type as much of it as you need to identify the person. For instance,
say you're tagging me, but you're also friends with someone named Michelle
McDonald. Type @Michelle McQ, then hit tab. Return to the what's on your
mind field, either by exiting forms mode or by hitting shift tab. The name
of the tagged person should be there, and you can simply continue typing
your update. I'm not 100% sure this system works when tagging notes, but I
suspect it would get the job done.

I like Avast because it verbally tells you when it has updated but when I
get my laptop working again might try the Microsoft programme.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Anti-virus program that works well with JAWS

2011-08-08 Thread john R. Vaughn
Mark and all, I am a comcast.net customer and get norton included free. And
as mark noted, you have to use the jaws cursor to help you make this all
work for you.Norton, though not the most jaws user friendly, can work
for you. That said, before Commcast offered this free add on, I used
another free anti virus/security program and it could also work if you used
the jaws cursor to help you navigate the site.
So always try and be flexible. Not the best of things but better than
nothing.

Hi
Pardon me but I use Norton 360 and JAWS 12 on all my computers. It
requires using the JAWS cursor and the simulated left mouse click to
activate different items. However, it is possible to make it work great.

God bless,

Everyone,
Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I think I will try Microsoft
security essentials. Some suggested I also add malwarebytes for additional
protection. Will running those two programs on the same computer cause
conflicts/problems?

And though Norton internet security ran alright unattended I had
difficulties using any of its features because it was not that Jaws
friendly.

Yeah. Microsoft security essential is very good endiid.

However, you may also use Avira; there is a free version as well and it
works great with Jaws.

Hope that helps.
