Please tell me again, in detail, what to do when Jaws 18 disappears. I wrote
down to press Jaws key plus windows key plus F4 and this turns off Jaws. And
if I press these keys again, they act as a toggle. Am I supposed to press
them simultaneously? When I press them the first time, I can see with my
hugely magnified Magic that the screen changes. But I haven't gotten Jaws to
restart with those keys or with any others. I am having to resort to turning
the computer off with the button and then turning it on again. Even though I
can see that I've moved to the screen that says, "Shut Down", the key
strokes don't work. But, after I press the button, just before the screen
changes, Jaws says something, but then the computer shuts down. I have a 64
bit windows 7 computer. I'd sell my soul for a key stroke that would just
get Jaws working again without having to shut down the computer and wait for
it to start and load.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 18

2017-08-03 Thread Mike B.
Hi Miriam,

Selling your soul won't be necessary, hopefully! LOL
Here's an explanation of the Jaws key, Windows key, + F4, keystroke, it is
not a toggle. Also, steps for creating a shortcut keystroke::
From: "Paul Magill" <
In some situations, when Jaws has crashed, or another process has crashed
Jaws, you can use WindowsKey+JawsKey+F4 to shut down Jaws and all its
associated processes, thus allowing it to be restarted in the usual way
without rebooting.

Note, it does not always work, but saves a lot of time when it does. This
method also causes an error reporting file to be created, and if asked by FS
support, can be emailed to them to assist in analysing the initial problem.
Regards,
Paul from Aust

If you don't have a shortcut keystroke to restart Jaws once you have invoked
the above keystroke, try the following to create one:
1. Go to the Desktop by pressing, Windows key + D, or Windows key + M.
2. Press the letter, J, until you have the JAWS icon highlighted.
3. Press, Alt + Enter, to open the JAWS icon Properties. When the JAWS icon
properties opens you should be on the shortcut page.
4. Tab to the Shortcut key field, and type in the shortcut key combination
of your choice, like Alt, Control, + J, or whatever other combination you
prefer.
5. Tab to the, Apply, button, press the spacebar, tab around again to the,
Okay, button, and press, Enter, to save the change & close.

Now, when you press, Alt, Control, + J, or whatever shortcut key you
assigned, JAWS should restart.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

the keys are jaws f4 to unload it.
you have to make sure there is a shortcut in the jaws 18.0 desktop icon before
you can reload jaws. the shortcut keys are not there by default after jaws has
been installed.
oepn a context menu on the icon, click properties and in the shortcut edit box
press j and it will be filled with control alt j by default. save the change.
then you can reload jaws with these keys.

I do a similar set of steps as Wayne, except I use the applications menu
instead of the ribbon. So:

Select the entire document or just a portion of it.

Tap the applications key or Shift+F10

Arrow down to style and right arrow to open the Style submenu.

Down arrow to clear and press Enter.

To use the touch cursor, press shift plus the PC cursor. To go back to the

If the save option is grayed out, a sighted person should not be able to

Is your adobe reader configured to read pdf's in the browser? You'll
find the check box to do so or not do do so in the accessibility wizard
in your adobe reader. Alt v for the view menu and arrow down to
accessibility. Right arrow and select accessibility wizard. Just click
next until you reach the last page and uncheck the box read in browser.
Online pdf's should read directly on your system. This said, I had to
switch to firefox as my default browser from ie11 as I could not find a
way to get online pdf's to read on my system.

when in the browser navigation is nigh to impossible.

The shortcut key for this is?
1, select all, ctrl A
2, press Alt, shift, ctrl, S
3, press F6
4, enter on clear formatting
5, press F6 again
6, press ctrl space bar
7, up arrow to close
8, press enter, and that will put you back on your document

Hello- What Adrian says works quite well. There is another option, if I am
in a document that has different formatting features that I don't want I
select the whole doc with Control a or I select a specific portion of a
document if the issue are related to only one part of the doc. Then, I
press the Alt key and make sure I am on the Home menu. I arrow down once and
tab through the formatting choices until I get to "Clear formatting." I
press enter on the clear formatting choice and all formatting returns to
what the default is set for in MS Word. At that point I can make any
changes I wish for the whole doc or portions of that doc.

Morning all.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to change the font size in Word 2013,
if the original text is not uniform i.e., some of the text is a different
size than other parts of text? I want to enlarge text, and reduce text sizes
in a word document as a whole document; and not have to go through the
document and change the sizes one part at a time. I hope this makes sense. I
am using JAWS 17, Word 2013 (as stated before), Windows 10, and a dell
laptop. Many thanks in advance.

Actually I think there is a way to give it the signal that the upcoming text
is to be centered, but I am not sure of that one.

For the other 2, you do a Control B or Control U either before the text or
after you have written and selected it.

I guess you could try doing the Control e before writing your text and then
when you press Enter, the text should center itself.

Good luck!

JAWS does not have a keystroke that will always move to all of the links in a
document like pressing h will move to all headers. What JAWS has is a
keystroke for moving to the next or previous link that has not been marked as

JAWSkey+f7.

The problem I am having is there a shortcut for moving from link to link

I know for headers I just push the letter H and I move from header to header.

The other minor issue is when I open an email using Outlook 2016 I used to just

is presented in a grid view with holidays starting in 2009. But, I don't
think my appointments are completely gone because my reminder window is
still being populated with appointment times that have come and gone. Prior
to this calendar malfunction, there was a window that gave me the choice of

Maybe I should go ahead and do it anyway?

See if you can change the calendar view to day instead of grid.
Unfortunately, I am not exactly sure how you do this. I would poke around
in the view menu.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Missing appointments in Outlook 2010

Hey group,

Yesterday my outlook 2010 was acting a little weird so I closed it down and
restarted my PC. Now it seems as though Outlook has reset the calendar to a
kind of factory default. All my appointments are missing, and the calendar
is presented in a grid view with holidays starting in 2009. But, I don't
think my appointments are completely gone because my reminder window is
still being populated with appointment times that have come and gone. Prior
to this calendar malfunction, there was a window that gave me the choice of
either snooze, restart and something else. I thought it was for the creator
update, but it wasn't. Perhaps I have installed an update that messed up my
calendar? I thought about a system restore, but wasn't sure it would help.
Maybe I should go ahead and do it anyway?
I'm running Jaws 18 and I would sure appreciate some helpful information on
this one.

Thanks,
Norma

Hi there! Have you tried using the touch cursor to locate the save

To use the touch cursor, press shift plus the PC cursor. To go back to
the

PC cursor, press it twice quickly.
If the save option is grayed out, a sighted person should not be able to
click on it either. It doesn't sound like it is grayed out. Is JAWS
reporting the button as unavailable?

Is your adobe reader configured to read pdf's in the browser? You'll find

Right arrow and select accessibility wizard. Just click next until you

Good Evening,

I have had this problem for quite awhile since my bank changed its
layout

and I'm wondering, if with the updates to JAWS, there is a solution.

Here is my issue.

I want to save the Adobe .PDF document of my monthly bank statement from
the website. Before, all I had to do was select the correct one, right
click and save target as.

Now, however, I first have to select an item in each of the following
combo boxes, name of the document, month and year for the document and
then type of document.

Once that is finished, I then select a button "Get Document."

It then opens up the .PDF online and in the menu when right clicking,
there are several options, one of them is "SAVE," which is not visible
to me. Others are, but not "Save."
There is no other way to save this document to my computer without
selecting the "Get Document" button and opening it first.

I have to have someone click on the "Save" button and then it takes me
to

the area where I can name the document, choose the destination, etc.

I have encountered this on a few other websites as well.

Does JAWS now offer some way of reading that grayed out area to save the
document for these types of Adobe .PDF files.

I have found no other way of doing it.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Irregular text sizes in Word

2017-08-03 Thread wayne smith
Hello- What Adrian says works quite well. There is another option, if I am
in a document that has different formatting features that I don't want I
select the whole doc with Control a or I select a specific portion of a
document if the issue are related to only one part of the doc. Then, I
press the Alt key and make sure I am on the Home menu. I arrow down once and
tab through the formatting choices until I get to "Clear formatting." I
press enter on the clear formatting choice and all formatting returns to
what the default is set for in MS Word. At that point I can make any
changes I wish for the whole doc or portions of that doc.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to change the font size in Word 2013,

I'll tell you what I do in Word 2010 because it probably still works in 2013.

Select the entire document with control-a.
Bring up the font dialog with either control-shift-f or control-d.
Tab until you hear a font size.
Arrow up or down until you find the size you want.
Press enter and your choice will be saved for the entire document.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Word 2016

2017-08-03 Thread Adrian Spratt
Fernando,

All good points. As you seem to suggest, it's odd that control-e toggles
between center and left-align when there's control-l for left-align. Because
control-e is a toggle, I'm forced each time to check the margin to ensure I
haven't done the opposite of what I intended.

Hi Adrian,
I didn't know that you could switch back to the previously present alignment by
using the keystroke of the current one. For this case of centering, for
example, I thought that if you needed to switch back to left you would have to
press CTRL+L (or CTRL+Q if using Spanish Word, the language I primarily use).
In addition to your helpful hints, I'll comment that if you want that the next
new paragraph to use the alignment you chose, you have to press the
corresponding keystroke on a blank line before starting to type. Moreover, if
you want a certain alignment even when you create a new heading, you can set
the chosen alignment and other paragraph settings as the default values, either
for all new documents based on the current template (Normal.dotm, unless the
current document was created from a template saved as such thing) or only for
the current one; this is done by using the Set as Default button located in the
Paragraph dialog, just before the OK button. There's a Set as Default option in
the Paragraph group of the Page Layout tab in the ribbon, but I don't remember
if it is for all documents or let you decide.

Interesting because I thought I would have to do something to get back to align

It sounds as if the save command is an unmarked graphic. I think there

jaws managers. Arrow down to custom label to see if that makes the save

The problem is that the save option or save target as option doesn't show up
that way.

Vicki, I wonder if pressing alt-s for save will work at the step where you
wish to save. In other words, don't try to find the save option, but go
right to it with the shortcut.

Good Evening,

I have had this problem for quite awhile since my bank changed its layout
and I'm wondering, if with the updates to JAWS, there is a solution.

Here is my issue.

I want to save the Adobe .PDF document of my monthly bank statement from
the
website. Before, all I had to do was select the correct one, right click
and

save target as.

Now, however, I first have to select an item in each of the following
combo

boxes, name of the document, month and year for the document and then type
of document.

Once that is finished, I then select a button "Get Document."

It then opens up the .PDF online and in the menu when right clicking,
there

are several options, one of them is "SAVE," which is not visible to me.
Others are, but not "Save."

There is no other way to save this document to my computer without
selecting

the "Get Document" button and opening it first.

I have to have someone click on the "Save" button and then it takes me to
the area where I can name the document, choose the destination, etc.

I have encountered this on a few other websites as well.

Does JAWS now offer some way of reading that grayed out area to save the
document for these types of Adobe .PDF files.

I have found no other way of doing it.

Thanks.

Yes, it is set correctly, but there are certain PDF documents on certain
websites that will only open on the webpage and then you can save them. This
is one of those.

Is your adobe reader configured to read pdf's in the browser? You'll find
the check box to do so or not do do so in the accessibility wizard in your

Right arrow and select accessibility wizard. Just click next until you

Re: [JAWS-Users] Wordk 2016

2017-08-03 Thread Dave ...
Can't say for version 2016, but for Word 2007:

To center top-to-bottom for the entire page, first select all the text on
the page. Then press Alt, p, s, p. Then Shift tab over to the layout page.
Tab down to Vertical alignment. Then select center page top-to-bottom.

To center left-to-right, again select the text of interest. Then press
Ctrl+E for center.

These may also work in later versions of Word.

kind of factory default.
I'm running Jaws 18 and I would sure appreciate some helpful information on
this one.

Thanks,

Hi Fernando,
the problem seems to be that when Jaws is running, Audacity is sent
additional messages to redraw itself, and at times when it is not expecting
them. I fear that Freedom scientific may not consider fixing the problem
with Audacity as a high priority, but I hope this isn't the case. In the

firm release date for this at present.
