Re: [JAWS-Users] FSCast 58 Discusses JAWS 13

2011-09-13 Thread Adi Kushnir

Hi,
I agree with you about the OCR.
In Israel, I use ABBYY FineReader 11 professional edition because the OCR is
much better and I don't think that omnipage has Hebrew support.
So, JAWS 13 will not have Hebrew OCR but Baum uses FineReader and has
Hebrew.
But, because I don't like Baum and I love FS, I will be stuck for this
feature!

The OCR thing is way cool. Especially when Errick read the DVD main menu
with it. Think about it. If JFW 13 when it does work with Win 8 doesn't
hook like NVDA and System Access do, it'll be
So much easyer still to watch a DVD on your own. Pluss you'll be using WMP
which is already easy to use some what as it is. This will only make it all
the more easier. Assuming JAWS works with out hooking to the Video that is.
See because since it does that WMP thinks JAWS wants to coppy the disk so
that's why one gets that diolauge about not being able to run the analogue
coppy protection thing. In short, If JAWS doesn't hook to the video in Win
8, and if the OCR can scan DVD menus like it did for Erick, watching movies
will be golden on the PC.

OCR feature is indeed an old yet a failed idea trying to be implemented
by Baum of Germany before in its screen reading product called Cobra.
Should Baum sue Freedom then?
:)
Let the joke aside, this is really a great move and as Mr. Mosen puts it
well, a "game changer" in screen reading technology. yet İ wanna pose a
big but about the choice of Freedom's Omnipage as its OCR engine that it
is not the best in the market, as FS guys also may know very well that
most of the blinds over the world having non-FreedomScientific options,
use ABBYY Fine reader which is the pinnacle of the OCR products in the

So, a perfect idea with a wrong choice of engin...
P.S: independent reviews juxtaposing the two engins mentioned above can

Hi Mandy,
the lack of folders in the folder pane may be due to it being set to a
compact view. To check if this is the case, press alt+v to move to the name
of the view tab, and then press tab quite a few times till you get to a
compact view button. If Jaws reads this as compact view button pressed, then
press the button to turn the option off.

best wishes,

Re: [JAWS-Users] problem with function keys on new laptopth

2011-07-28 Thread Adi Kushnir
The best laptops I think for a blind person are the Dell Latitudes that are
dizind spessifically for work, on the HP pavilion and Dell Inspirions for
example, you will maybe need to press the Function keys together with the
function key which is located usually after the left control key.
So if you want to do insert f4 for example, you will press the insert
key+the function key+f4.
On the Dell inspiron line, you can change that in the bios - I think that
would also apply to a lot of HP machines.

Save will save the document generally with the same title and format. Save
as will allow you to save the document as a different file name and often,
you can tab over once and choose from a variety of different formats
depending upon the program.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Note: in either Windows XP,or Windows 7, there may be hidden folders, but
if the paths below are copied, and pasted into the run dialogue, there is no
need to show hidden files and folders.
Here is the path for Windows 7:

C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Freedom

Of course, in either case, the version number of Jaws may need to be changed
in the file path to match the one in question.

JAWS reads these things properly without an authorization dongle plugged in
but when the JAWS authorization dongle is plugged in, it doesn't.

Here are the person's own words.

Hi,

Here is the information you asked for:

Environment:

- Windows XP operating system

- JAWS v12.0.1167

Application:

- Smart Client - WinForms application running inside a browser as
an ActiveX control.

- The property which JAWS does not read is called
"AccessbileDescription". It can be set for any User Control. For example,
our main form have

"Welcome to NICE Perform" as a value for this property.

Greetings all,

Nobody is more disappointed to have lost the MLB option in Research It more
than I am. Especially when you consider the tight race in the American
League East where my Sox are doing battle once again with the Yanks and the
Rays. Anyway, here is the scoop on what has happened.
About a week or 10 days ago, ESPN made modifications to how they expose
sports results in an effort to block many different products that had been
tapping into ESPN to get the info in real time and display it. We believe
this was done in an effort to get more organizations to purchase access to
the data and prevent anyone from getting it otherwise. This will not only
impact MLB on Research It, but all of the sports.

We have been investigating the MLB site itself and many other places like
YAHOO but so far, have not found any site that exposes the information away
that will work. We are also reaching out to ESPN and trying to explain who
we are and what we are doing in order to see if we can get them to work with
us. If any of you who use Research It to get access to daily scores would be
willing, please write to them at:
https://r.espn.go.com/members/contact/index

Please be polite and remember, they are not targeting JAWS and Research It
when they make these changes. It would be helpful to explain to them how
beneficial it has been to use Research It in order to get the scores and
schedules without having to weed through all the extra information presented
on very busy web pages. I'm sure that together, we can all work this out and
FS will get this fixed and working again as quickly as possible.

Hello,
I know it sounds strange but I'm trying to install JAWS on Windows XP PRO

there anybody who went through this successfully and could give me some tip
how to solve my problem?
Your help is appreciated.

Yes it really doesn't important but if you get this message, there is a
problem with the FS new display driver that shows up in the device manager
that they are using instead of the video intersept with Vista/7.

I thought you just said that Video Intercept unavailable didn't matter in
Vista/7 because they didn't use that.

I guess,
but if you're not running Win XP you don't have to worry about the Video
Intercept message--Win7/visat apparently don't use that feature anymore.

But yes,
that would be worth trying.

What to do?

happy to report the install this time completed successfully. Now, I want to
start using it. It's my understanding there are Jaws scripts which make
ITunes much more accessible. I thought there was some ITune Jaws scripts
which were available for a fee. Where do I either get free ITune Jaws

Hi,

In JFW 11, when I load it with a focus blue connected, braille doesn't work.

I must close JAWS and disconnect and reconnect the braille display and then
it works.

I'm talking about a JAWS manual startup.

This acurs with boath manual and automatic startup.

It happens on some computers including mine and others I have seen.

Can this problem be solved?

[JAWS-Users] Focus 40 blue and JAWS problem

2011-06-06 Thread Adi Kushnir

Adi.

2011-06-05 Thread Adi Kushnir
Hi,
Yes, it's recommended to change to the classic view.
To do this, do the following:
1. put the focus on the desktop list view.
2. unselect all items.
3. press the applications key.
4. press up erow to get to the "personalization" item and press enter.
5. find the windows classic theam by using all of the erow keys and press
enter on it.
6. you will here a sound indicating that the theam has bin changed
successfully.
7. press alt+f4 to close this window.

Jim, I think it's under Display in the Control Panel. What you need to
change is from the new Windows 7 display to Classic View.
I believe that is correct and I hope someone will catch this if I'm wrong.

I returned the new computer I had and upgraded my acer 32 bit to windows
seven.
When I was talking to jaws tech support about the new computer, they had me
change something about the view in windows seven that they said would cause
jaws problems, unfortunately I don't remember how to change that view
checkbox that he took me to.. Do any of you have some suggestions on what
things I need to change in windows seven? Any help would be appreciated,
thanks and god bless..

What's an accessible podcast catcher for Win7?

Thanks,

Yeah, my authorization number is on the disc and it copies it but it won't

then you are typing in the authorization code incorrectly or its invalid

So long as you can access the compilers using JAWS it is all right
with me if it is discussed on here. Believe me I know what compilers
are designed to do and I even have a COBOL compiler from my computer

Ok, this is the jaws list not programming but I will tell you about
the C# compilers below.
I guess David chimes in when he's tired of reading about programming
So, this will be my last reply - please continue this thread
on the programming list.

The C# compiler is located in
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\csc.exe for the 32-bit
version and 64-bit
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\csc.exe
Csc.exe is a command line compiler, so you have to open a Windows
console / command prompt to compile and read compiler warnings and errors

etc.

The above path is related to version 4 of the .NET framework.

I recommend adding C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 to
your path environment variable.
Doing that will allow you to simply type csc.exe some_program.cs when
you're ready to compile your program.
If you don't add it to your path you'll need to type:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\csc.exe some_program.cs
every time you compile.
A bit cumbersome to say the least.

So, let's pretend that you've written the well known Hello, World!
Program in C# and named the file containing the C# source code

HelloWorld.cs.

To compile the program type:
Csc.exe HelloWorld.cs

This will produce HelloWorld.exe.
If your code contains errors the compiler will tell you on which line

etc.

Good luck!

For Python you need to download and install the Python interpreter

Which means it is soon to be released.
I've not tried it yet myself though but I will as soon as possible.
I'm still using Windows Live Messenger 2009 which works ok.
I've tried InstantBird but dumped it quickly.
It worked ok but it's not even possible to change your display name...
But that may be fixed now.

Friends, I'd like to get your opinion on something.
if I understand correctly, the newest version of windows live messenger is
not accessible, correct?
someone told me about a program called, InstantBird.
How different or similar is it to wlm?
And, are there jaws scripts to make it more functional?
Many thanks. Randy.

Hi.
I recommend to move to the file, and then, press the F2 key to go to the
re-name box.

then, press control+a to select, then control+c to coppy, then escape.
Now you can Paste it.

Hi listers,

I'm using Jaws 12 and need to know how to copy only the name of a file in
a list, as opposed to the entire file. Also, if applicable, do the usual
conventions regarding selection of contiguous and non-contiguous items
still pertain?

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] WLM 2011 and JFW 11.0

2011-01-23 Thread Adi Kushnir
Hi.
We have a new hebrew version of JFW 11 now. It's the 1476 build like in English.
Can someone help me to get WLM to work well with braille and speach with this
version of JAWS?
I would appritiate Eric Damery's respond because he is from FS and he knows
what the product can do.
We need a fix.
We, in Israel paid $4000 US for JAWS and We upgrated to 11 only about two-three
months ago but, we have problems.
Can you fix this for us.
A user respond would be thankfull as well.
We have some other problems with JFW 11 but, this is not for the list.
You can talk to the distributer later.
I'm one of the people that test the product.

Thank you very much and have a nice day,

Adi Kushnir.

Are you sure you closed AIM? If you cannot get it to close, launch the
Windows Task Manager (Alt-Control-Delete), scroll to AIM on the
Applications tab and tab to the end task button to force it to shut down.
Then you should be able to uninstall it.

you do not have to install Media Player Classic when you install the
Klite Codec Pack. There are severall versions of the pack actually
and you can get one that only contains the Codecs - or you can do a
custom install and not install any player.

You can use any player of your choice on your system. If you do
decide to install Media Player Classic - and it is a good and fairly
accessible player - just make sure you do a custom install and not
have Media Player Classic associate itself with any file types.

Alternatively, you can google for something called the "Vista Codec
Pack" that also comes with a ton of codecs but does not contain any
players. I use the latter.

You can disable that option or, I did an other thing:

It will start JFW only after about 50 secunds after the Startup of

We, at Israel use this sometimes because We don't have ILM licenses here

 Hi,
the latest version is Adobe Reader X.
You need to disable protected view first to get it work well with JFW9.
I have boath JFW 9 and 11 installed and It works great.
I'm using the Hebrew and English versions of JAWS.
 Do the following:
 1. Open the edit menu.
 2. go to prefernces .
If you don't like to do it from the menu, Press control+k in the main
window
 of Adobe Reader.
 3. tab until you find a checkbox called enable protected mode at startup,
 and uncheck it.
Then, press yes to continue after the worning.
 Then, press OK.
 4. Close adobe reader and start it again.
But, if the PDF file has an image and not a text, You will not be able to
 read it.

 Best regards from Israel,

There are ways out there that are written to hack the OS and get OE, but

David,
while this is an option in the settings for Jaws 7 and 9 and probably
elsewhere it is not a selection in Jaws 11.

Anyway, it isn't the fact that the message isn't immediately read when
open, the body of the message just isn't there, it is invisible to the pc
cursor in Jaws 11 when the message is open.

Bits of it can be read with the Jaws cursor and if one is patient enough
to use paging keys and return to the Jaws cursor the message can be read
using the Jaws cursor but it is invisible to the PC cursor. Arrow keys
don't read, Jaws key and arrow doesn't read line, the text is simply
invisible to Jaws with the PC cursor.

I have sent an e-mail to Freedom Scientific Customer Service this morning
but so far nothing but an automated response, I expect they will send
something later.

you should press the letter "m" twice to hear this.

I don't have that option. I have:

1. Smart word reading
2. Language Detect
3. custom labels
4. stop words exception dictionary

I don't have any idea what that is unless it is a trap to catch those
bad words which cripples jaws when encountered.

Thanks for the try though.

Also do this before they put you on key restriction like everyone

Hey guies. I am sincerely hoping and praying that one of you more techy
people on here can give me a hand with something.

I'm needing to reinstall my OS. I have some disk errors which don't seem
to be fixable. I've posted to a few forums about my following question,
however all of them don't really seem to care anything about
accessibility, and just tell me basically, to get the heck out of the
forum as a blind person has no business using a PC. Frankly, that just
made me laugh at them in shame, but, anyway, that's neither here nor
there.

Basically, I have a 360GB SADA hard drive in my machine. I plan to put
Windows vista Home Premium SP2 on it. You may ask, why not Windows 7? I
have my reasons. I love Windows 7, but for reasons beyond my control, I
*must* do Vista. Anyway, I know the process for booting to an XP CD, and
doing a fresh install. I know from ground one, I know about hitting F8 to
accept the liecnese, I know about hitting c to create a partition, etc.
etc. However, I know that in Windows vista the process is ever so slightly
different. I'm not going to have anyone sighted any time soon who could
help me. I'm confident that I can do this, but I just need to know
keystroke by keystroke how to step my way through that initial
installation procedure, until the point I can get narator up to finish it,
driver wize, and software wize, and installing jfw, I'm fine with. that
won't be any problem in the least. I don't need help with any of that, I
just need help knowing how to get through that initial introduction of the
setup.

Again, this is a full clean install I want to do, with a full disk format,
I have no other drive perifrials, like external hard disks/USB flash
drives attached, and a 360GB SADA hard disk, I assume SAEDA drivers are
slipstreamed into the Vista OS, unlike they are in XP, so I doubt I'll
have to use NLite, although if I do, it's no problem. I can handle it. I
want to partition my drive into one big partition, so it's not like I'm
needing to set up a multiple partition table, so that'll make it easy,
I'll just have the one Active Primary, and that's it. No secondary.
Again, will be using a Vista Home Premium SP2 DVD. this isn't an upgrade
nor recovery disk. It's the full retale copy that I bought a few years
back directly from Microsoft. Yes, I do have access to the product key,
so that is also no problem.

If anyone can help, and can provide me the keystroke steps, I'd be a happy
camper. LOL!

Thank you ever so much for any help you may can provide. I understand
this is slightly off topic, and that knowing it is such probably doesn't
make me posting this on list become right to do, but I'm kind of between a
rock and a hardplace. You all pretty much are my last hope with this. As
I said, I googled like none other, and also wrote on multiple forums with
no one really being all that terribly helpful, surprisingly enough.

If no one knows, I totally understand, but please don't bash me on or off
list for writing an OT post. This is the only OT yhou're gonna see of me
regarding this. If you'd rather write me off list, which I'd personally
prefer anyway, my address is:

cgilla...@carolina.rr.com

Thank you again.

Best wishes,

Chris.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Working with MS Office 2010 Professional

Hi
recently, I found a good deal on MS Office 2010 Professional. I bought
it and am now waiting for it to arrive. However, I am wondering, how does
one work with MS Office 2010 Professional. When I moved to MS office 2007
there were so many changes I didn't know what to make of it. Does anyone
know what I am up against in the 2010 addition? Is JAWS 12, MS Office 2010
compatible?

God bless,
Mark

It started as a question about iTunes and Jaws and options which were

recognized the equipment did not support those options. I initiated the
thread full in the knowledge that Jaws is not the screen reader of choice
for accessing that application but without an alternative method of access

appreciate the technical support of other Jaws users provided by such a

I regret drawing the scrutiny of the moderators to any of those who were

You can only enable voice over on the 4th gen iPod Touches. The third
genn you have to down load it to the iPod and then enable it.
A look at the apple page can give you more info on the iPod you have at
hand, because each one and size is limited in voice over features.

Thank you Adi,

Maybe this iPod Touch is too old or something. It appears to be a 16 GIG.
I don't seem to have the option you told me about,

Then, press the tab key until you here configure universal access button

it just isn't there.

The other peculiar thing is that it shows software version 2.2.1 and even
after looking for update I get the message that this is the latest update.
I don't see any reference to the operating system version unless the
software version is the operating system version and maybe this unit
doesn't support IOS 4. Is that likely?

Thanks, I did find everything else as you said I would. although landing
on some of the iTunes functions can be problematic.

Hi.
I'm using JFW 11 and Control+insert+T works with WMP 12 in Win7.
It shouldn't tell you the artist name. It should tell you the name of the

I don't know about JAWS 12 but, this is not a WMP problem.

Hi all,
I installed IE 9 beta today.
It works very well but, there is one problem:
sometimes, JAWS reports blank lines when they are not present.
It doesn't happen alot.
The new download manager in IE 9 is very nice and friendly.
IE9 works very well with JFW11.
That problem with the blank lines is fixed in the latest build of JFW 12.0
(12.0.522 or something like that.

I don't have a full license for JFW 12.0 because I'm living in Israel.
JAWS 11 came out in our language about a month ago.
So, I upgraded from the previous version avelable in our country (JFW 9.0)
to JFW 11.

We don't have JAWS 12 licenses yet and we have to waite.
Bye the way, has someone tested JFW 11 with Avast 5?

Thank you and have a nice day.
