Hi all, Good suggestion. I updated to latest J17 and began Jonothon / FS cast. Because I am not so familiar I pressed stop rather than pause. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS, Outlook Express, Outlook
Hi all, I installed Outlook Express on Windows 8 and I did not have Outlook or office on machine. When I opened a email message it was opened by notepad. I tried to create a rule and no luck. I wonder if I have Outlook installed on W8 then OE would work fine. Any ideas? Right now using XP but have Windows 8 and have not upgraded to w10 or office2013. I only have one machine connected at a time because only have one monitor and I don't know how to network both machines. Anyone know how to network both desktops with one modem? I don't need monitor unless I get jammed up. - Original Message - From: "Neil Towery " To: Sent: Sunday, October 04, 2015 12:28 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS, Outlook Express, Outlook Thanks for the suggestion. You'll have to specify the user name and password for the outgoing non-Gmail account. I like this method better because with the recent-colon method, you receive a copy of every email you send via the Gmail account. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of David Ferrin Sent: Tuesday, September 15, 2015 11:00 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2013 question about Gmail The question has arisen about configuring a Gmail account to receive your own messages posted to a mailing list. I was under the impression the fix is still the same as it was for several years placing the word recent with a Colon after that before the account name on the server tab. I must admit that I don't have 2013 although with some stumbling around am able to figure things out when needed. I tried the fix mentioned above but the server would not accept the password for the account until I removed the recent fix so to speak. So what is needed is somebody with greater experience with outlook 2013 to chime in and give me some much guidance. It is annoying when something I know should work does not and screws up my batting average for the lack of a better term. Re: [JAWS-Users] Making blanklines appear between paragraphsin Word 2010?
Thanks Brian, when I was in a list... To get out of list I would hit enter twice. But good to know about shift+enter. - Original Message - From: "Brian Lee" To: Sent: Wednesday, February 11, 2015 11:19 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Making blanklines appear between paragraphsin Word 2010? Hello, In Word the CTRL with enter key inserts a page break. The shift key with enter key moves the cursor down a line without using a paragraph mark. This is helpful in a list style when using automatic bulleted or numbered lists and when you don't want to insert a bullet or number when pressing enter key. In those situations the cursor is moved to a new line and the text starts immediately below the beginning of the text above it. This is helpful to insert notes for the numbered or bulleted item. Take care. The difference is that when you use multiple presses of the enter key, you can have stranded blank lines at the top of pages, which makes the text look bad. The proper way is to set the Before or After spacing in the paragraph dialogue box. Word will automatically put extra white space between paragraphs. The best way I find to know when a paragraph change has occured is to turn on paragraph marks and also use paragraph navigation commands. What I find is when I initially enter and ALT down-arrow on the Combo, in Firefox it states "read only edit". When I tab away and tab back, it has an entry. Example: Country of residence: random selection: "Albania" as I arrow down, it continuously repeats "Albania". If I tab away and tab back, the country has changed. Example: "Denmark". This occurs with both Jaws and NVDA, although I wouldn't be used to working with NVDA. The difficulty is that the form I am attempting to fill in must be completed in a certain number of minutes or it refreshes. I believe it may be a specific type of form, or there is some security feature applicable as I am able to access combo boxes on other sites without difficulty. I am running JAWs 14, Windows 7 and have tried accessing it with Firefox and IE. With FF I locate the combo box, hit enter for forms mode, then alt down arrow. Jaws speaks: "Read only". In IE, I have it set up so that forms mode is automatic, so I hit Alt and Down Arrow. Jaws responds with a "Blank". I know that the fields are working as when I type Ireland into the select country combo, it is there. However, it is impossible to guess the options in the other boxes. I have also tried NVDA without success. Any ideas? Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE Now Flagging My PC Status As "At Risk"
Link at end of copied from CNet. I will migrate off XP but not yet. I'll be more careful. Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP, an OS still used by approximately 20-25% of Windows customers. That means one in four PC users must upgrade to a more secure, supported version of Windows or risk their un-updated, un-patched version of Windows XP catching a virus or other Internet bug. As a rule of thumb, we always recommend upgrading your OS and then updating it as often as possible to protect your system. If you're switching to a new OS, read how to migrate easily from Windows XP. However, if you're a die-hard who wants to keep a Windows XP machine, here are five tips for keeping it running as safely and smoothly as possible until you upgrade. 1. Use updated browsers -- no more Internet Explorer The latest version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP is IE 8, an incredibly outdated browser. For security, it's better to use third-party browsers like Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. All have promised to continue Windows XP support for at least another year. While you're installing a better browser, turn up your browser security. Add-ons and extensions that disable JavaScript can prevent websites from running malicious scripts. NoScript and Ghostery for Firefox or NotScripts and ScriptSafe for Chrome can close the doors on many exploits. 2. Get rid of Flash, Java, and Adobe Reader Although Flash, Java, and Adobe Reader were the mainstays of yesteryear's Internet, with an unsupported OS they are gaping doors for hackers. Most video sites like YouTube and Netflix uses HTML5, so there should be no need for Flash. Java is still required for certain applications, but unless you use those on a daily basis, there's no need for it to be installed. Lastly, there are safer alternatives for Adobe Reader, such as Sumatra PDF, Nitro PDF, and Foxit Reader. 3. Buy a full antivirus suite Getting the protection of a full antivirus suite isn't a bad idea, especially when it costs much less than upgrading to a new system. Kaspersky, Trend Micro, F-Secure, and Norton are all good calls. You want something heavy duty with its own firewall for the best protection. Then get a second opinion from other scanners just to be on the safe side. The new Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is good utility to run as a second line of defense. (The premium version is going for $20 this week) 4. Go offline or limit your account access The surest way to stay safe is to stay off the Internet. If your Windows XP machine's uses don't require an Internet connection (such as home theater, playing music, or games), then disconnect. Otherwise use the limited account privilege setting in the User Control Panel. Stay off the admin account unless you need to update, patch, or install something. Account limitation can be a roadblock for attackers. 5. Remove unnecessary clutter Any programs you're not using can be a risk now that you're on an outdated OS. Keep baggage to the bare minimum by uninstalling apps you don't need. IObit, Revo, and Advanced Uninstaller can help. Then update whatever applications remain. Just because Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP doesn't mean that software developers are dropping it, too. A majority of publishers still offer updates to their software at least for another year. End of an era Even though Windows XP gets no more Microsoft love, your functioning PC did not suddenly became useless. If you practice good security and know the limitation of the legacy OS, you can stretch out your system's life for a little while longer. However, we do recommend that you not keep sensitive data or perform essential tasks on your XP machine. While "unsupported" doesn't mean automatic hacking, there will be fewer people reporting exploits. http://download.cnet.com/8301-2007_4-57620758-12/5-tips-for-running-windows-xp-relatively-safely/?tag=rb_content;main - Original Message - From: "Cristóbal" To: Sent: Tuesday, April 08, 2014 2:43 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE Now Flagging My PC Status As "At Risk" Instead of speculating about how difficult or not it may be, you could just write or call them and ask. Re: [JAWS-Users] drop Box directions
Thanks but had enough computer for today. I'll try to work on it and experiment. I thought I could only download from link using dropbox or Google. But I think I could download directly to my download folder using application key, save target as desired file name and then attach in an email message. Last time I had dropbox on my PC it kept coming up with a message about drop box. I cannot remember if it was only on start up or not.But I'll work on it and I'll email you privately if I need some help, most likely. LOL Thanks, Ann - Original Message - From: "jim rawls" To: Sent: Sunday, November 10, 2013 3:48 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] drop Box directions Hi Ann Marie, You can create a folder for this person if you want to do that in your drop box program. Just go into drop box, and hit your application key and go to new, and under new, you'll see folder. So, here you can call that folder what you want, such as, Jim and Ann Marie, and then, you can invite whoever that person is to share the folder you created. Hi all, I just called Microsoft help line for people with disabilities at 1 800 936 5900 The event viewer shows error all over your computer. I asked if they could have penetrated my computer and he said no. Most likely they were looking for me to buy their software to fix all my fatal and minimum problems on my PC. I did google it and it states a scam. I am surprised that they would target me because I am using XP. I don't think they will call again. Thanks for all your responses. If they call again, I'll ask for her phone number and I will call her back. Click most likely will be the answer. I did run MSE and Malware Bytes and no problems. Have a great day. Hi Steve, what is chamrs? I don't use W8 yet. That's because, Jaws changed that key combo because windows-C is the key that brings up the chamrs in Win 8. The correct command to append to the clipboard for Jaws 14 and up is windows-jaws-c. The Jaws key is either the insert or Caps Loc if you have laptop keypad layout. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Control A to select the entire sheet; Alt to go to the ribbon; down arrow to cells; right arrow into the submenu; down arrow and press enter on format; down arrow past column width, to auto fit column width, and press enter). Then copy and paste the 3 columns and all your rows that have data into a Word document. I don't think you need to merge columns, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do. Thanks I tried Audacity and had some problems with understanding software. I tried to open with control+o but needed to import with raw I think. Then I tried to convert to MP3 then sort of got lost. The free tool from Maniac is easy. Copy files into input folder and then specify folder for output with converted MP3 songs. Then press F5 to convert. I think I had to arrow around some but real easy. All keyboard commands I found in file menu. But thanks for your suggestion. I use GoldWave as well. I did download Audacity. On Jaws user list there is some documentation but Maniac tool seems the simplest which is free.
